Poetry Sucks
I hate poetry. I just don’t like reading it on xanga. I am not alone because poets can be some of the least commented people on xanga.
I never really liked poetry or saw its value. My first two years of college I had a 4.0 until I took a poetry class. I received a “C” in that class. The teacher never gave us a syllabus. She was unstructured and lacked discipline.
Occasionally someone might write something funny and it grabs your attention. But for the most part, poetry is just boring.
I liked this one woman on here who wrote poetry. She used her blog to talk teach about poetry. She wrote a few books. I actually met her in real life. She had pretty eyes and large boobs. (I am sure someone will know who I am talking about based on the description).
But for the most part, when I see poetry on xanga, I just backspace out of the page.
Do you enjoy reading poetry?

I don’t love it but I can see the beauty of it.
I do.
I love poetry. You’re missing out, Dan! There are some incredible poets on Xanga.
I write poems sometimes and I enjoy reading it. There are a lot of good poets on Xanga.
I used to write. I don’t have any inspiration anymore. But OMG for my creative writing class in high school I wrote an “Ode to the McDonald’s Drive Thru Customers” that CRACKED us up. Idk if the general populus would like it, but we sure did!
I love the haiku in the picture
I used to write poetry, ten years ago; I stopped because I’m that lame, taking an engineering program instead of the more suitable arts/humanities program.
I’m trying to write again but it hurts. lol I like reading some poetry on Xanga.
You can replace “poetry” with “boobs” and vice-versa in this blog, and it still would make sense.
i like some of it. i don’t like it when people get MAD when other people don’t understand it, though.
I like reading poetry here and there, and I write poems from time to time.
I know poetry doesn’t get much feedback on Xanga, my latest entry is a prime example.
Mer anyone can be a poet if they feel up to it. Though admittedly mooncats sestina challenge sucked hardcore.
Epic haiku. It took me a while to appreciate reading poetry.
There once was a man named Dan
Who really wasn’t a poetry fan
So he posted his blog
While drinking some grog
While Xangans think that he’s da man
God send people to hell because of bad poetry.
I like poetry…it’s okay..it’s just that you don’t get the emotional side of it. I don’t write “funny” or “boring” or “genetic” like most of the people put out here in xanga..I actually can write great poetry…and great stories. Maybe it’s because everyone writes the same shit all the time? I’m too nice it seems..
Not a lot. There is some that I like but a lot of it I just can’t get to grips with.
I find your treatment of the ways of your ancestors MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST DISRESPECTFUL!
And I don’t write poetry, FYI. I write short stories about people killing other people. So THERE.
ha. I hear you . it’s common to have people who stop by to look but never comment or don’t return.
I enjoy poetry. some more than others.
No. I hate it with a fiery passion.
You’re just being a mean ass. lol.
jk, I like some poetry.
I hate writing poetry, though.
I like Frost and Longfellow and limericks and Edward Lear and Dr. Seuss. I occasionally write a poem, but it usually has a punchline.
I love poetry. I love writing it much more than reading it on here, because it’s a way I express myself.
I didn’t like poetry until I took a form and technique of poetry course required for all creative writing majors. The professor was incredible and taught me how to write and how to appreciate poetry. So now I love it!
I enjoy reading and writing poetry.
It’s a total waste of time.
Poetry is eh. I feel like it takes a lot of concentration. I don’t read it on my own but there’s a select few poems I liked in school. Also, you might not like Xanga poetry because honestly most of it isn’t good. For instance, I used to write poetry here when I was 16. It was awful. It wasn’t really poetry it was more like me shitting up what it meant to be 16 on virtual paper.
Anyway, I liked this poem. It is by William Williams, which is enough to make me like it already.
So much depends
Upon the red wheelbarrow
Glazed with rain water
Beside the white chickens
lol.
Poetry sucks. Sure, it’s an art-form and all, but I just don’t have the same experience everyone else does. It’s not my thing.
@Rob_of_the_Sky - WIN.
Yes I do. Sometimes. I much better like the posts that really give me something to think about.
I like it, but there’s a lot that I don’t understand and won’t try to. It’s kind of like music.
Maybe you aren’t very right brained. I really enjoy spoken word which is poetry.
Shallow bastard! Wahhhhhhhhh ahhhhhh eeeeeeeehh oooooooooohhhh! The pain! The anguish! I extinguish my fire with urine that smells of hollow, I couldn’t find a chicken so I ate a swallow. Theologian hates poetry all is lost, ahhhhh! I’m so anguished my eyes are crossed…ohhhahhhhhhhhhhhh!
I’m a poet I write real things, it’s good you’ll like it! Yes! You’ll like it Dammit!!!!!
Love it. I see xanga as a creative outlet for everything.
To me poetry is like a song except without the instruments. All you get are the lyrics.
Yes, I love reading poetry, but not on Xanga. I prefer reading the works of famous published poets — they are famous for a reason. Much more so than poetry written by the average person online these days, famous poetry is more original, intelligent, meaningful, and pleasing to read.
So you just backspace out of my poetry *sob sob sob* Now I know how you really feel about me.
*cries self to sleep*
I don’t think a lack of comments on poetry blogs necessarily indicates a lack of interest in poetry. I love reading poetry and every now and then I pretend I can write it; but no matter who’s poetry I read on Xanga, I never comment even if I love it because I simply can’t think of anything to say. Especially if it’s really good poetry… it’s already said everything that needs to be said, and trying to add a paltry comment just doesn’t do much for it.
I just backed away from some Xanga poetry a little bit ago. I have to admit I am not a big poetry fan. I still read the established classics on occasion, but I quickly revert to reading prose.
Poetry is like art: Most of it is crap but sometimes you find a piece that makes you go “Wow!”
I know I’m guilty of poetry on occasion.
hahaa.
i loved poetry in high school. now it mostly bugs me. perhaps because i had to write 5 poems a week for a poetry course i took a few semesters ago; that killed my interest. it made me feel like a douche kinda, trying to sound so artsy and everything. and listening to everyone else’s poems in the class. it was all crap. but everyone thought theirs was terrific. lol.
once in a while, i’ll see one on here that i like. but that’s rare.
Sucks? Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have felt exactly like this in the past. But, I no longer feel the same way.
Please don’t come to my site as there are some poems (and prose) I have written. I write because if fulfills a need for me to express deep emotions. I wrote a lot to express the pain of suddenly losing my mother and then my father a year later. It isn’t for everyone..and wouldn’t mean anything to you, anyway. You need not come to my site.. And that is fine.
Just like a love of anything..not everyone shares that love.. ie..I don’t like many sports and you may love it. Thank goodness we are all different.
Enjoy the remainder of your week. Thanks for sharing what you think. “.
Christy
it’s alright…not my fav.
I don’t mind reading it on Xanga, but unfortunately, I just never know what to say. I like poetry, just not amateur poetry. I’ve seen some pretty good poetry on here though.
LOL That refrigerator haiku is AWESOME.
But I LOVE poetry. God I would never in a million years want to write it again as I did as a dumbknuckle teenager. But I like it. Not as much as prose but still..
Being completely honest, I definitely see its purpose whether or not people like it. And yes your argument has said about every humanity course basically…art is such a cloudy mirror.
I love poetry. I used to write when I felt as if no one could understand me, or I couldn’t make sense of what was happening. It’s like the paper and pen helped me sort out my feelings until I felt okay with everything going on. I only wrote when I had extremely strong feelings and most of my poems were really sad ones, but it helped me get through the pain. I’ve stopped writing recently because I guess I figured out how to deal with life on my own and I no longer have to hide behind a piece of paper.
Haha, I feel like a bad person for saying I agree… but I am a bad person, so I agree!
For once, I completely agree with you.
Am a poetry man, but I won’t hate on Dan
Just cuss he doesn’t like poems, doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand some
Or cuss he failed the class, now he act like an ass
But he is right on one thing, poems don’t get as much commenting
But I fail to understand, where his beef stands
Cuss in poems, u can laugh, cry, whine and be awesome
Bad, sad and gruesome
Still poem is poem, and nothing more
So Dan, ur like the only guy I have heard that hates poems so much
Is it becuss of ur unfortunate C, dat makes poems to suck
Or did u suck dick, and the teacher refuse to show remorse
Lol am just kidding, don’t be pissed off
If I can help it, I help get over her boob job
But seriously poems are good, don’t be a jerk
If I could make u laugh, make u change ur mind
I would, but this is life
U gotta hate certain things, to like others
And u hate me, unlike other bloggers
But ur still a good person to me, so don’t be a joker
Give poem another chance, u two might become lovers
U never know, cuss what u never try never comes
My blessing, Dan the writer of (poetry sucks)
I don’t like it for the most part.
I’m with you Dan. Never read it .
no I just enjoy writing it
I don’t like poetry that much, although I respect poets highly. Poetry writing is so structured and disciplined, I can’t contain myself in it. The only poems I actually read through were the sonnets of Shakespeare. Other than that, I don’t read as much of it.
I love poetry. A good poem is much harder to write than a good essay. >.<
But when I do manage to squeeze out a good poem, I bask in the feeling of being proud of my work. 8D
And haha, was that “Refrigerator” totally random, or did you use the rule about how the third line of a haiku usually enhances the meaning of the poem without actually having anything to do with the first two lines?
Poetry broadens your horizons and makes people think.
I can see why people don’t like it since most people these days don’t seem to want do either.Poetry also takes a gift of sorts given the creative aspects.I don’t necessarily seek it out, however I do enjoy reading poetry when I come across it. I always considered it like a peek into someones mind.
Words were created for sentences and sentences are suppose to make sense.
No, I don’t like poetry.Except for Robert Service. He rocks.
“The Cremation of Sam McGee” :D
Yipes, even Dickinson and Shelley??
I have to disagree.
I like reading good poetry
I tend to hate it except for a few poems by a few people…
I feel like such a boor when I say I don’t like poetry. lol. In small doses it’s fine. A little Robert Browning, etc., yeah. But an entire story in poetry form? Why? Prose exists for a reason. The prose form is so streamlined and clean. It gets the job done.
However, we do read poetry. There’s so much poetry in the Bible it can’t be skipped around with serious effort. Especially in the books of the prophets.
But somehow that’s not the same thing. Biblical poetry is different. It isn’t so indulgent.
Recently I’ve made the commitment to continue educating myself; learning math practically from scratch gave me confidence. I have a book on “how to read Shakespeare” on order, and have been glancing sideways at classical music. Perhaps poetry can be included. Perhaps all we need is a good book to guide us.
You can’t properly judge whether a person enjoys a post by whether or not they comment on such, since I’ve seen it happen more times than not that good poetry can leave the reader without words, in silent appreciation, while a bad blog can incite words of anger. Along the same lines, inspiring poetry can bring forth thoughts while a good blog can both earth silent appreciation or words of praise. Simply put, there’s no solid correlation between poetry and comments anymore than there is between blogging and comments.
To the person who does enjoy poetry, typically it’s flavored, not unlike the person who likes one kind of music but not another. (On that note, I would personally argue that music can very much be poetry, and poetry music.) Just because you don’t like one flavor doesn’t mean that you’d hate them all, just as liking one flavor won’t mean you’d enjoy the rest.
(Personally, I’m give and take when it comes to poetry on Xanga. Some I like, some I don’t.)
Do Andrew Dice Clay’s nursery rhymes count? We like those!
I don’t get a majority of it. I prefer reading structured prose.
I like good poetry. Most “poetry” on Xanga is drivel.
>_> Thanks for the kick in the nuts, Dan.
I’m no big fan of poetry either.
Great. I just wrote the first poem I’ve written since high school…where I wrote a grand total of two poems. Oh well. Actually there’s a poem I wrote about “Capture the Flag” when I played Unreal Tournament, based on Joni Mitchell’s song “Both Sides Now”.
Both Flags Now
Flags and fragging everywhere
With cheat-bots getting in my hair
I spawned again but don’t know where
I’ve looked at flags this way
But now they’ve spoiled all my fun
The other team’s already won
I wish I’d used another gun
This simply ain’t my day
I’ve looked at flags from both sides now
From *D* and *O* but still somehow
It’s only “campers” I recall
I really don’t cap flags At all
@hollowhopes - Love it! :p
And to answer the question, yes! I love poetry.
i used to write haikus. lol. love the pic.
I love poetry. It’s not all good, but the deeper more thoughtful stuff is.
You know, something in me changed how I see you. Dan, [[if that is your name?]] I thought you are married? If so, then you don’t highly respect your wife by much, do you? I think that a bit too low of yourself as a faithful husband to be talking about other women’s boobs.
Unless you’re hinting us that your sex life is suffering? Care to share that part of your life?
[[ you can chose to see this either way; am I being serious or am I picking on you? ]]
I do, especially the painful ones
Its always nice to know your not the only one with such warped thoughts.
Which sucks worse for ya, poetry or country music? I know who it is you are referring to. I still talk to her every day.
@TheBigShowAtUD - Does poetry, to you, still have to rhyme, every time?
I don’t much care for poetry, either.
I’d much rather nerd it out on the computer with my video games or something retarded.
For the most part, I think its a waste of energy, but hey. Its just my opinion.
i do. i also write poetry, but only when i’m going through something. it seems to be the only way i can express how i feel.
I’m not fond of poetry, but I will read it out of respect for my xanga friends.
Oh the more cryptic the better…
The thing is, you have to slow down sometimes to absorb what people are writing…
I hate that first sentence…
I know what you mean! If someone wanted to torture me making me read poetry would be the best way.
I honestly used to enjoy reading and writing poetry, but in the last year or so I’ve lost most of my love for it. People have been coming up with what I feel is cheesy and lame poetry, and yet they along with other people think their poetry is a fantastic piece of work. I’m usually left there with my eyes squinted wondering “how in the hell does this shit get comments?” However I must admit that I do read poetry that I actually like on xanga, unfortunatly that isn’t very often.
I love poetry. it is amazing.
I love reading good poetry and I tolerate reading bad poetry. I think it has to do with how much time and energy you have to invest in what a poem is really trying to say. The meanings of poems are often not immediately obvious to me, so in that way they can be like riddles. (And maybe appeal more to folks who like riddles?)
I use poetry as a kind of ‘shorthand’ for communicating complex thoughts quickly and efficiently. My blog would probably induce boredom if it WASN’T in poetry form.
I love good poetry. I’ll take it over controversy and drama any day.
Occasionally you find a pony in the room, but you have to shovel a lot of poop first.
i’m with you, buddy. once in a while, something will strike me as worthwhile. aside from that, i’m not understanding why people don’t just write in legitimate sentences and stop sounding so contrived and, really just stupid, usually.
Like literature, there is a wide variety of poetry reaching all the way through antiquity… you probably just haven’t been exposed to what you would like.
I like a few poets; Donne, Keats, Wordsworth and Moore come to mind.
Poetry doesn’t suck. Period.
Explicating poetry for school pretty much ruined it for me. And I never really liked it in the first place.
I love poetry, both reading it and writing it. My theory on why poetry doesn’t get many comments on Xanga is because people seem to be drawn to blogs about xanga and blogs about drama (and also, I’m sure that not all Xanga poetry is good either). Plus I think that poetry requires a little creative thinking to figure out and appreciate, and poetry analysis is not everyone’s cup of tea.
“She has pretty eyes and nice boobs”
don’t most female xangans have those features? lol.
I’m with you on this broski,
Some people “try” too hard, which overall ruins the effect.
Also, I laughed really hard at that haiku.
Thanks -_-
What the heck?! You don’t say a girl’s got pretty eyes and big boobs without providing a link!! Fail
I love poetry and I write some too. It’s a pity you don’t enjoy it
It’s k
I don’t like reading it much but I enjoy writing it sometimes …its therapeutic and helps me to vent.
It depends
@hollowhopes - I think its “a red wheel barrow”. And the lines are uncapitalized and deliberately truncated and broken where you don’t expect them to be- which is really the self-referential point of the poem:
so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
beside the white
chickens
The broken structure pulls you up short; you are forced to focus on it and think about it, rather than ignoring it in favor of the literal somewhat banal denotative statement.
Which is what Williams himself is doing with the wheelbarrow.
As for you, Dan, I can only quote Marianne Moore on Poetry:
I, too, dislike it: there are things that are important beyond
all this fiddle.
Reading it, however, with a perfect contempt for it, one
discovers in
it after all, a place for the genuine.
The whole verse, titled “On Poetry” is at:http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15654
And Xanga’s editor (which keeps trying to “correct” the broken lines) sucks ass for this. . .
I’m not a big fan of poetry. I guess having to read it in high school and trying to find the “bigger picture” or the 10000 different meanings the poem had made me not enjoy it.
I think poetry should be heard, not seen – unless it’s some kind of limerick.
I used to loathe poetry in every sense. Reading it and writing it were far from my list of desired activities.
I don’t know what changed in me, but now, I favour it. Yes, some of it is rubbish, but there’s something honest about it.
I am a poet more than anything, and I do believe it’s the most sincere I can be…even if it sucks sometimes.
I’m sort of a hypocrite. I love writing it, but when it comes to reading it, poetry rarely catches my eye. It has to be amazingly good for me to sit down and read the full poem.
Not really – there are one or two that I follow that I like because they reflect my thoughts but for the most part I don’t read it.
I love poetry, I love the rhythm of it and the beauty of the words. It does depend on what kind of poetry it is. I have a friend that only writes poetry about her boyfriend. We’re fifteen and it’s all about how they’ll love each other forever when I know he only likes her cause she’ll have sex with him. I don’t like that kind of poetry, too angsty and dramatic. Although there is a difference between teenage drama and angst and the kind that makes a good story. I like a lot of Edgar Allen Poe’s work although he was dark and dramatic. But the poems with a good rhythm and clever imagery are the ones I like best. Hope is a thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson is one of my favorites.
On Xanga? Generally not.
Poetry is such waste of time, and 90% of Poets have a refrigerator up their own ass, so I am recommending this post because I feel like this blog doesn’t get enough exposure on Xanga.
I like reading poetry. but I am mostly a prose writer. you are one of the few, if not the only person, that I am subscribed to that doesn’t write either prose or poetry or some sort of literary satire.
@Ewithani - woah there, i was just writing what i remembered off the top of my head…
one reason im not that big of a fan of poetry is because it tends to attract a lot of pretentious people
Not always. Sometimes. It depends. If I can understand it.
Never been a huge poetry fan… but there are a few good ones.
I don’t think being less commented makes a selection of people any less worthy of praise— I think it just means they don’t spend their time mining for attention, so much as having a place to store their compiled works.
Depends on how it’s written and what it’s about. Often poetry is used to talk about serious, dark, or messy subjects. Sometimes it’s just to deep to understand. I like poetry that is funny light-hearted about silly and crazy things. like Shel Silverstein or even good old Doctor Seuss.
I love writing it more than I do reading it
Blah blah blah you can’t think abstractly… Blah blah blah this reinforces all of my points about high honors students lacking creativity… Blah blah blah you don’t understand art and I’m losing (blah blah) respect for you.
No, seriously? I like poetry. A lot.
I really hope this is a satire. That’s not to defend any poetry written on Xanga – but poetry, as a whole, is the most important of the arts.
I love readng it and I love writing it, but to each their own.
I admit, for the most part, I really prefer prose. Some poetry I like (I’ve always liked Robert Frost, for instance. Even in high school, where my biggest achievement was how long I could nap in class before the teacher caught me) but it’s got to have something special for me to get into it. I tried writing it myself before, and it’s actually really hard to do….I suck at it.
Some of the poetry I read on Xanga is the best I’ve ever read.
Music is poetry. I love music<3
I love poetry. It’s certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but then art is usually a lot more subjective in general.
I agree! Poetry sucks. I hate reading it on Xanga too… But I like writting it… mostly just to annoy people like you! Kidding Mr Theo. There is a lot of bad poetry no doubt. People put together words and call it poetry… I am guilty and I know it, but I can’t stop. I quit smoking cigarettes. I quit drinking beer. I don’t go to strip clubs any more… GOD DAN, I NEED AT LEAST ONE STINKING VICE!!! DON’T TAKE MY POEMS AWAY FROM ME!
I love poetry. LOVE it. I’m dedicating my next one to you<3
Many people have commented about the fragments and misplaced words that seem to make no sense. But the truth is, there is more to poetry than that.
Poems on here are shorter than some of the lengthy recaps of a person’s day, and I can find more meaning out of it. That being said, I hardly see poetry while I see a lot of long entries of a person’s day.
I’ve read a couple great poem.. they’re just hard to come across. I like the haiku though!
there are good and bad sides to every medium of art. i like to write it and read it but some of it is not good in any sense, sometimes mine isn’t either. i would rather spend time sifting through original material looking for insight than reading endless blogs featuring cliche pictures of a forest filled with mist or a sunset at a beach with a caption in the middle or another girl trying to give herself ‘thinspiration,’ or someone with a post only to start a forum within their comment boards.
Amen. I hate poetry in all its forms. I find it pretentious and annoying.
To each their own. I write poetry on this site. Perhaps you just don’t want to spend the time it takes to understand someone else’s emotions?
Yes.
I AM SO HURT BY THIS POST THAT I’M GOING TO WRITE HUNDREDS OF ANGSTY POEMS AND STICK MY HEAD IN AN OVEN.
us poets are a strange group. we appreciate words in the form of art.
we don’t expect other people to understand..:)
I enjoy poetry,it’s a good way form of self expression and can be nice if it’s written well.
Poetry is just self expression, and requires no structuring. A poem is what you make it. Like a picture you drew or a song you wrote, or a melody you thought up. Find a poem you truly identify with, and it won’t bore you. But poetry isn’t for everyone, just like art or music. Do what you enjoy
So? when i don’t like a song i change the radio station.
when i don’t like a person, i think of something else when he’s talking to me.
it’s not unusal.
@disrepaired - hehe. won’t it be cold in there? … I mean, in there, where you live in sadness because someone doesn’t like poetry…
jk.
limesforhangovers.xanga.com
Sometimes. I hate the ones that are hard to interpret, like stuff in high school and college that professors grade you on. I just hate being forced to interpret stuff I don’t want to think about.
I’m a poet, but not on Xanga. I keep my things on DeviantArt. But, funny thing, I have a shirt with that haiku on it
I used to write poetry a lot more as a teen. Now it’s really hard to because I am a perfectionist with it. But the last poem I wrote made a few people cry so sometimes waiting until the right poem comes along is a good thing. I don’t like putting out shitty things. I tend to not like a lot of poetry that people write. They bore me most of the time. Especially the love poems..ugh.
I love reading poetry of all kinds. The thoughts of teens, the wisdom of my elders, and even the hardcore fantasy trips. It’s all beautiful and unique and someone’s love-child. Corny as that may sound, I think it’s a healthy form of expression that anyone can mold into their own. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You can choose whether or not to use iambic pentameter or leave it be! The meter, the stanzas…it’s an open field. Poetry is something I can never tire of because so many people have stories to share.
Eh, but maybe that’s just me. I’m interested in what everyone has to say. I enjoy reading other folks’ point of view.
If you like structure and discipline, then there are some types of poetry that I would think you would like. I know free verse tends to be incredibly popular on the web, but a lot of poems, particularly ones by “classic” authors, are very structured (and make more sense than haikus). Maybe you’re just not reading the right poetry? Reading poetry on the internet can be sort of a mixed bag, after all. Sometimes it’s god-awful, other times you can find really great stuff.
Of course, poetry really isn’t for everyone.
Sure as hell do.
The Chanel
company got started back in 1884 in the mountains of Switzerland as a company that made precision counters. Chanel Watches
are best known for being the time-keeping instruments of professional aviators. But even if you are not piloting a plane, you will appreciate the aviator-grade technology included in the Replica Chanel
. The Airwolf oversized hands are also well lit, making them highly visible during flight, and the case back of this Replica Chanel Watches
resembles the whirling turbines of a supersonic jet engine.
While it was created to meet the needs of professional pilots, the Chopard
doesn’t scrimp on style. Whether you are a pilot or you just appreciate the technology that goes into Chopard Watches
. The Replica Chopard
are the latest design of watches to hit the market. A man with the Replica Chopard Watches
is definitely an envy of the rest.
you don’t like poetry because of the person that taught it to you?
i feel sorry for you.
I read it, I write it, I love it.
Was that Saadia you were talking about? She’s just published her third book of poetry. Awesome stuff.
I love to write it.. But don’t like reading much.
There’s a few poets on xanga that I like, and I’ll read and comment on their stuff. My poetry inspiration is rather small, as the only ‘professional’ poet that I actually read is Charles Bukowski.
Everything else that inspires me to write is from music.
i love poetry; writing and reading it. i feel like a lot of people who hate it haven’t taken the time to try and enjoy it.
i dont blame you…shit i fucking hate the poetry i write…..
I used to write poetry all the time when I was still in school. A few moves over the next few years, and I misplace quite a few of my notebooks.
I found one the other day. I opened and read it.
Pure word vomit. All of it. Jesus fucking Christ, why did I ever think I was good at it?
Trashed.
I understand this sentiment. Often times it is very amateurish and what makes it bad is the fact that people end up trying hard and t hus failing hard, and it makes it pathetic because their emotions are so involved in the act.
Poetry can be an embarrassing experience for everyone.
i’m with ya, it does nothin for me
poets are people who cant write books, or like, a newspaper column.or a blog..
Chew on this, bucko:

@my_words_are_my_sanctuary - ”I don’t think being less commented makes a selection of people any less worthy of praise— I think it just means they don’t spend their time mining for attention, so much as having a place to store their compiled works.”
That’s actually incredibly true. For me atleast. I’m one of lesser known people on xanga, and I really don’t even care that this is the case. I just have a nice place to store my shit. And when I say ‘shit’, I really mean it.
xanga has the best poetry ive ever read
About a month ago, I could comment you completely agreeing with you,and telling you that I can’t stand it ,and DOn’t understand why people would like such a thing. But I recently went to a class, and I’ve learned to fall in love with poetry. You could pretty much write nonsense, get away with it,and people think your deep.” ha”,but it’s true, and I don’t give a second thought when I write my poems, i just write whatever im thinking and revise it later for mistakes. most liberal arts teachers hate me too. i got a d in an english class because she couldn’t like me for being a cute kid. what happened was complicated. don’t think i write like this in class. and don’t feel bad. there’s a difference of mind modes used.
i have a 3.5/6ish in college.
I don’t mind reading it… I just never know what to comment.
i love poetry.
i used to hate it until i realised that thats what i wrote. i just didnt realise that “poetry” was so broad. now, i havent “wrote” wrote inawhile but. i dunno. my shits usually pretty graphic. or sensual. or both. or bloody. or both. i think ive written one love poem. ever. shits overrated.
(thats just cause im bitter ; )
I second that, I backspace out of that site
i like poetry….not all poetry is good though…but you have to read them to find out who the great poets are!
and some writings can be beautifully poetic without you realizing it.
LOL of course you hate it…you obviously suck at writing it and understanding symbolism and hidden meaning. don’t bash something just cause you SUCK at it! …idiot

Only my own.
I enjoy reading poetry and I enjoy writing poetry. I admit, my feelings are a little hurt right now
@boilingicicle - I’m in your boat. I actually stopped writing poetry, got an engineering degree and was inspired by other xangans poetry to start writing again and it’s nice to have a creative outlet. Do you have a creative outlet?
@kiera181 - Not at all, which drove me crazy for a few years. Have simply been learning, learning, learning, with little psychic/emotional integration and output. Now trying to use creativity again.
Limericks rock! Just kidding some poetry I like but if it is too deep I usually don’t get it and some is soo personal that I don’t get it…
Haikus are lovely poems not so much.
Not really, although I do like Poe.
I fucking hate poetry.
except when my friend and I make ridiculous lyrics for our fake band.
