It’s not addictive, it’s a gateway drug, which leads people to think, “Well..that joint wasn’t TOO bad, so maybe I’ll try this…” You can smoke a joint once and never do it again. Of course, there are people who do have “addictive personalities,” but unless someone seriously laced the weed, you won’t be automatically hooked on it. I haven’t smoked since April (lol, you know…420?), and before that I hadn’t smoked since February, and then only once before that. So, in my life, I’ve smoked all of three times.

@PervyPenguin - Smoking ANYTHING is not good for you, as smoking requires burning which releases carcinogens; thus, your lungs will want to cough out anything that is smoke relate, even BBQ smoke. The difference between the releasing of carcinogens that typically are burned out of pot against, for example tobacco, is that the poison released from cigarettes are much worse (which leads directly to cancer). However, though pot is sometimes consumed through burning, THC have sometimes shown to have anti-carcinogenic effects, including the killing thereby also forcing a regeneration of new cells. This by no means is conclusively bad, nor is it good for you. To this date there is no direct link found between cancer and pot or asthma and pot. Simply put, for asthmatics smoking pot surely is not the best thing as it releases smoke but it has shown different outcomes in different people. I’ve known people whose asthma has improved since using the substance actually. Again there are other ways of consuming pot without carcinogens but I would never recommend it to anyone uncomfortable with the drug for paranoia sake.

@RealRaMia - Additionally, I understand that many people view marijuana as a “gateway drug.” However, as much as it sucks to hear (both my boyfriends’ siblings have terrible histories with high-grade drugs which have led to his extreme disapproval of marijuana, so I’ve been through this conversation before), just because one person used pot and then used meth does NOT mean that the marijuana “led” to the meth use. Sometimes we feel the need to blame an object, not a person, because we want to believe that it couldn’t be the person’s fault… but people make mistakes. That doesn’t mean we can’t forgive them. Pot dealers don’t put labels on the sides of their baggies advertising hard drugs. In fact, 90% of the marijuana smokers and dealers that I know wouldn’t touch anything like crystal meth. And the ones that would? Have risk-taking personalities and other factors that would have led them in that direction with or without marijuana use. There have been 0 deaths in the history of the world attributed to marijuana overdose. And yet, how many people die each year of cigarette and alcohol consumption?
@Yoru_Kendo - What I think most of these “lame” people are trying to point out, is that those people who hold such vast misconceptions about marijuana simply don’t know all the facts. It’s very frustrating to deal with people in your day-to-day living who insist that marijuana is some horrific substance brought to this earth by devils so that hippies and gangsters can have some kind of evil to inflict upon our children. “The madness must be stopped!” …No. As I stated in another comment, no studies show any brain cell death attributed to the consumption of cannabis. There have been no deaths from marijuana overdose. There’s no poison or liver damage (as there is with alcohol), there’s no chemical additives that stick to your lungs and cause tarring (as there is with cigarettes), and there’s no chance of overdose (though you can overdose on things as “everyday” as caffeine and Tylenol). There is simply no good reason for “haters to be hating,” as one might say. I think we as a pot-smoking community are simply frustrated with our lifestyle constantly being demonized by the public. I’m here to help spread the word. I am a well-educated woman who works full-time, goes to the University of Kansas full-time, holds a 3.8 collegiate GPA, and is aspiring to attend medical school. Do I look like your average “stoner”? Once you get to know some of us, you’ll see we’re all different. We’re all people, we just happen to share one thing: our love of cannabis.

Plus, it has does wonders for my depression to smoke, even long after I cannot feel the effects of the high, my anxiety and mood is much improved. In fact, I have often held onto a stash for months because it was better to save my money when I did not have a recreational use or immediate need for my medication of choice.

It’s not addictive, it’s a gateway drug, which leads people to think, “Well..that joint wasn’t TOO bad, so maybe I’ll try this…” You can smoke a joint once and never do it again. Of course, there are people who do have “addictive personalities,” but unless someone seriously laced the weed, you won’t be automatically hooked on it. I haven’t smoked since April (lol, you know…420?), and before that I hadn’t smoked since February, and then only once before that. So, in my life, I’ve smoked all of three times.

The difference between the releasing of carcinogens that typically are burned out of pot against, for example tobacco, is that the poison released from cigarettes are much worse (which leads directly to cancer). However, though pot is sometimes consumed through burning, THC have sometimes shown to have anti-carcinogenic effects, including the killing thereby also forcing a regeneration of new cells. This by no means is conclusively bad, nor is it good for you. To this date there is no direct link found between cancer and pot or asthma and pot. Simply put, for asthmatics smoking pot surely is not the best thing as it releases smoke but it has shown different outcomes in different people. I’ve known people whose asthma has improved since using the substance actually. Again there are other ways of consuming pot without carcinogens but I would never recommend it to anyone uncomfortable with the drug for paranoia sake.

LUCKILY weed is not a drug, it is from the earth which God gave us….it can do far more good than it could ever do harm! i wish people could see that! but as for drugs (like crack or meth or extacy…ect.) @bodyheartmindsoul - my brother got caught ONE time with A joint in his wallet and got arrested. He is still on probation and he just recently finished his community service. Now he has a record. To me it’s just not worth the record… If it was completely legal I still wouldn’t smoke it…. not because I’m against it just because I don’t like smoking things… I might try the brownies if they were legal though.

@RealRaMia - Additionally, I understand that many people view marijuana as a “gateway drug.” However, as much as it sucks to hear (both my boyfriends’ siblings have terrible histories with high-grade drugs which have led to his extreme disapproval of marijuana, so I’ve been through this conversation before), just because one person used pot and then used meth does NOT mean that the marijuana “led” to the meth use. Sometimes we feel the need to blame an object, not a person, because we want to believe that it couldn’t be the person’s fault… but people make mistakes. That doesn’t mean we can’t forgive them. Pot dealers don’t put labels on the sides of their baggies advertising hard drugs. In fact, 90% of the marijuana smokers and dealers that I know wouldn’t touch anything like crystal meth. And the ones that would? Have risk-taking personalities and other factors that would have led them in that direction with or without marijuana use. There have been 0 deaths in the history of the world attributed to marijuana overdose. And yet, how many people die each year of cigarette and alcohol consumption?
@Yoru_Kendo - What I think most of these “lame” people are trying to point out, is that those people who hold such vast misconceptions about marijuana simply don’t know all the facts. It’s very frustrating to deal with people in your day-to-day living who insist that marijuana is some horrific substance brought to this earth by devils so that hippies and gangsters can have some kind of evil to inflict upon our children. “The madness must be stopped!” …No. As I stated in another comment, no studies show any brain cell death attributed to the consumption of cannabis. There have been no deaths from marijuana overdose. There’s no poison or liver damage (as there is with alcohol), there’s no chemical additives that stick to your lungs and cause tarring (as there is with cigarettes), and there’s no chance of overdose (though you can overdose on things as “everyday” as caffeine and Tylenol). There is simply no good reason for “haters to be hating,” as one might say. I think we as a pot-smoking community are simply frustrated with our lifestyle constantly being demonized by the public. I’m here to help spread the word. I am a well-educated woman who works full-time, goes to the University of Kansas full-time, holds a 3.8 collegiate GPA, and is aspiring to attend medical school. Do I look like your average “stoner”? Once you get to know some of us, you’ll see we’re all different. We’re all people, we just happen to share one thing: our love of cannabis.

It all goes back to when I dated my first boyfriend, who hid it from me for nearly a year, and it was nearly four years after that before I actually gave marijuana a chance.
