It is ok. This woman cheated on her husband so she sort of had it coming.
He slapped her but he really did not make a good connection. If only she would sit still and not move while he was swinging.

Since this is the Theologian’s Cafe, I’ll get theological. Every deed, good or evil, gets paid back–sometime, somehow, somewhere. The Good Book says the Son of Man took a bunch of guff He didn’t rate from a bunch of people–all for others. And He didn’t lift a finger to stop it. A lot of people still get away with a lot of crap.
The Good Book also says if somebody is sincerely sorry and sincerely gets his head on straight, he can still get off the hook. Otherwise, at the End of the Road, stands the Son of Man–and this time not in so tolerant a mood–and–well, payback can be hell.

Of course it’s not okay. But when we speak of a woman hitting a man due to cheating it is an entirely different case. Remember the whole Tiger Woods incident. Elin beat the hell out of Tiger with a gold club. Many women applauded her. If that would have been a man hitting a woman he would have gotten hell, and nothing would justify him no matter what the woman had done. The press would be talking about him for years. I know a lot of women who said “hell yeah, I would have beat the shit out of him.” One of my close friends told me that she would do the same and also destroy his car if she was in that situation. Not okay no matter what the case. But it isn’t treated that way.

Did you know that 1 in 4 women will be abused by a romantic partner (US statistics)? During pregnancy, the stats are 1 in 5. A lot of people blame the woman, or ask “Why doesn’t she just leave?” The 6 months (some statistics say 2 years) following her leaving an abusive partner are when she is most likely to be killed by her ex-partner. It’s something like 10x more likely, but don’t quote me, I’d have to check my statistics on the exact number.
We had a woman come into my Women’s Studies class today (the class is about interpersonal violence against women) and she spoke about her daughter, who is a “silent witness”. Silent witness means she was killed by her abusive partner. In this case, it was her husband. She left him, and was in the process of filing a protection order against him. He broke in to her apartment in Michigan and strangled her. He had a friend help him bury the body, but then they dug it up and reburied it in Bowling Green, Ohio. He then killed his friend (slit his throat). He made a plea deal in Ohio to get the death penalty taken off the table, admitting to the murder of his friend. They took the plea deal off the table because he agreed to take them to his wife’s body. He went on trial in Michigan because he refused to take a plea deal; he thought he could get away with it. He chose to be tried by a judge rather than a jury. He was convicted and given life without parole. He comes up for parole in Ohio within the next 5 or so years, but he’ll go straight to jail in Michigan.

Sometime I wished I was hit by my husband. I was emotionally abused for years, instead. But there was no bit swelling blackened puffy area around my left eye to show anyone. I looked in the mirror, and I looked the same.
If I cheated, my husband would NOT hit me. The guy, on the other hand, would be lucky to come out of it with just a black eye.

I was always taught not to hit women. Hitting my big sister back became okay because if I didn’t she would kick my ass every day. I taught my two boys not to hit women. I had to alter this a bit when my youngest was in the third grade because there was a girl who took great delight in kicking him in the testicles (which risks testicular torsion, I should add.) My alterations was thus: If a woman is going to come at you fighting like a man, then treat her like one.
On the medic yesterday I dealt with a woman who had been beaten by her husband’s girlfriend while her husband held her down. How does that fit into your equation?

When I was a girl, my dad told me that a man should never hit a woman…..BUT if the woman hits the man first, she has put herself in a man’s shoes. I only hit my husband once…and he didn’t hit me back…but I still ducked.

I am sure I will take heat for this – but I do believe a woman can bring it on. Just like a man can. The difference, as you said in your last entry is that men are stronger. In most cases, the man has the option to throw the woman off of him and escape. However, in most cases the woman just has to do her best to survive and hope she makes it through. Also, usually if a woman hits a man as hard as she can, the worst will be a bruise or a broken nose, however if a man starts pounding on a woman’s face, he could turn it into jelly. So there is cause for a double standard. In a fight they are not equal.
My current husband was raised in a home where his mother abused his father. Not physically, but emotionally. She did throw things too, but she constantly yelled at him, spent the money as fast as he could earn it but did not work, accused him of cheating when she probably did herself, and all in all did her best to provoke him. Amazingly though, he never hit her.
In the end the difference is the after math. A man who has been beat is usually in better shape than a woman who has been beat. And also men can scrap it out and roll in the dirt and fight and a week later be buddies again because men understand violence in a different way. A man getting hit is seen as a lesson learned. A woman getting hit is seen as dominance.
I think it’s really wrong to hit a lady but it never wrong to hit a bitch. =P

When I was a little girl, my father cheated on my mother with a nineteen year old. Had two children with her, while they were still married. He abused my mother, and I witnessed it. It was sickening. My mom has been hurt by him too many times, and she can’t even breathe out of her left nostril because he punched her so hard. She has chipped teeth. I love her so much, and I am glad she is with someone, someone who treats her right. I know this isn’t the same as this situation, but I am making a point that VIOLENCE SOLVES NOTHING!

It was pre-stalking laws; there were very few shelters, and I got laughed at by a cop (and I was looking at him through two black eyes and had a tooth sticking through my lower lip) it was very bad. BUT I have to admit it helped me become the person I am now. And I am someone I actually like, if you understand.
