Brazilian Waxes
I was just reading an article about how girls as young as 14 are getting Brazilian waxes. A “leading child protection advocate is saying that it should be banned.
She is saying that it is leading a trend to the “pornification of teenagers.” Here is the link: Link
Do you think kids under 18 should be banned from getting Brazilian waxes?
Comments (80)
I think maybe under 16 or 17, yes. Some kids are out on their own by 17 and 18 years old, so they should be able to make that choice. A 14 year old does not need to wax that area of their body.
Eh, 18 is kind of old. I’m sure there are some hairy 16 year old coochies and assholes that should be maintained. So, maybe under 16? No 14 year old should be getting a Brazilian, thats insane.
I don’t know. Never really needed a Brazilian. A razor does me just fine.
I think that is between the girl and her parents!
I think the earliest they should be able to get them is the age of consent, whatever that is in their state/country. Anything lower gets a little creepy.
As someone who was having sex at 17 and hated pubic hair, no. I think it should be legal. There are a lot of people who just find it more comfortable not having pubic hair and I don’t think we should assume that every 14 year old who wants a wax is getting some. Anyways, pornification? I don’t think that’s an appropriate use of the word.
What? That’s sick. This is the world we live in…..
Perhaps 14 is a bit young. But then again, if they are allowed to damage their skin by tanning then I think they should be allowed to get waxes.
I totally would have done this at 14 if I could have paid for it and done it without my mom hanging around. I would have liked to feel clean back then too.
I figure not getting professoinally waxed isn’t going to stop anyone from having sex, so it doesn’t really matter either way. If people want to be silky smooth, I don’t care.
man, that gives me a boner
Gosh, I can’t fathom having my pubic hair ripped out.
Banning it won’t do a damn thing.
When I was 14 years old, I was worrying about to wear the next day in middle school, and how cute that boy in the next homeroom was.
Damn hoochies .. just kidding, but that is VERY young. The world these days saddens me.
I don’t see how removing pubic hair is that big a deal. It’s not really any different than many other things little girls do in an effort to be “grown up”. I wouldn’t support outlawing it. Not all girls do it for sexual reasons. Swimmers sometimes do it just to keep from having to deal with body hair on a regular basis.
Oh my, what a picture. As for banning it, I think there are worse things going with youth. This isn’t even something I was concerned about or considered when I was a teen.
Maybe under 16 but yea 14 is way to young…but i guess it is their personal choice…i really don’t know about this one…
I do not advocate banning it. As @verucagirl - said, it should be between the girl and her parents.@l0veBabyx - Agreed. lol @ Damn hoochies!”
After reading a recent post on one person’s site and seeing a photo on another person’s site (both men) I’ve been thinking a lot about this sort of thing. Men seem to have developed an aversion to any pubic hair at all on a woman. It wasn’t so long ago that if a man insisted his wife or girlfriend shave their genitalia, it was seen as a sign he had pedophile tendencies. In recent years, the fashion industry and pop culture have pushed the trend until it’s considered normal. I don’t think I would penalize the waxing establishments so much as the parents who buy their young daughters thongs and high-cut bikinis and other provocative clothing.
yes
@tsh44 - I agree with this comment.
Getting waxed doesn’t make one more or less prone to having sex. I don’t know of too many 14 years olds that want to indure the pain on a regular basis, but if they do then more power to them.
gonna sound like someone born in the 1950′s (which I was). the high school girls show their cleavage. The high school administrators distribute condoms. This is small stuff. The culture has already pretty much dictates that as soon as a lass enters puberty, she should look like someone of legal age of consent
@andiote - Lmao.
Yeah, that should definitely banned. Its worse than the story of the 5 yr old blonde wanting to get highlights from my hairdresser. Like mentioned before, it should be banned before 17 or 18. 16 yr olds should be able to get them with parent permission.
You are scraping ever closer to the bare bottom.
Pornification.
Best. Word. Ever.
I started removing pubic hair the moment it started growing in. Seriously.
I
was probably about 12 or 13 when I started shaving. Why did I shave?
Because I didn’t know about waxing. And I HATED having hair there. It
was uncomfortable, it got caught, and I hated how it looked, especially
when I wore a bathing suit.
I didn’t start having sex until I was almost 17 so it had nothing to do with sex or sex appeal.
I just didn’t want the hair there.
Hasn’t anyone ever stopped to think that this has nothing to do with sex?
I went through puberty early and I definitely needed to shave to wear a bathing suit. Nothing high cut or skimpy, just a regular fucking bathing suit.
Some girls are hairy enough to need it. Just because some girls didn’t need it at that age doesn’t mean that other don’t. Besides, since when have we dictated what a girl does with her fucking vagina? That same girl can go to a Planned Parenthood and get an abortion, but God forbid we let her get a brazilian wax!
Stupid conversation. Mainstream American culture is so hypocritical.
@saintvi - You always leave such wise comments. Thank you.
i wish everyone were banned from brazilian waxes and hair down there was acceptable because that shit is paaaaaaaainful and i’m not looking forward to getting one ever.
just…learn to use a razor, eh? pretty sure every girl does that by 14.
I didn’t know what a brazilian wax was a 16 and I didn’t know I was supposed to shave my cooch no one told me!
I think they should let 14 and older get waxed it’s their pubes if they want them ripped off them.
parents permission is the only important in this point (if they’re teenager). No matter what (:
like @tgwiy said… some girls just don’t want hair there. it’s really embarassing for some girls when you can see it with a bathing suit on. so i don’t think there should be age restrictions. it’s not always sexual. sometimes it’s a personal preference.
@saintvi - Seriously. Leg shaving is bad enough but nothing like this. The cultural trend is creepy. We want our women to look like little girls with boobs and our little girls to look like women.
I understand why it is convenient not to have pubic hair at times, and I remember not liking mine at first when I was about 14, but if I were a parent I would be very, very concerned if my 14-year-old daughter wanted to actually go and wax off her pubic hair.
I suppose a bush looks awkward in a bathing suit sometimes, even if it is a fairly modest bathing suit. Still, I would not pay money for my kid to get her pubes ripped out. (Because really, who’s paying for it? Unless it’s birthday money, how many 14-year-olds have money floating around to spend on waxing? Not many have actual jobs at that point.) I’d be like, “If you insist, shave it yourself.”
@tsh44 - I never thought about swimmers – I totally understand that.
14 is kind of young, but 18 is kind of old. Not for nothing, some girls just don’t like hair down there. I was shaving even when I wasn’t having sex. Hair just skeeved me out. The girls will just shave if they are banned from Brazilians.
I just turned 16 and I’ve been getting them for abooout a year now. I’d be pissed if they begun to ban them.
The word pornification made me laugh ha
Under 16.
Uhm, wow.
We trust doctors to look at our naked bodies at a very early age. Why can’t waxers be trusted just as much?
I think it should be left to a person’s parents to give consent.
I was so distracted by the photo you posted I couldn’t even read the entry. lol
meh.
looks cleaner. feels cleaner. smells better. doesn’t get caught in things. makes commando comfortable.
age limit? do you want them buying at home kits?14 is young for SEX.
i don’t see that it’s a purely sexual thing.
I say legal age of consent. Or use a razor.
@tgwiy - I agree 100%. I think if they want to do it that they should be allowed to. I am disgusted with hair there and I think everyone should be allowed to get rid of it anyway they see fit.
@DistantStarlight - If we want our girls too look like women with and our women to look like girls. How does that work? It can only go one way or the other.
Your body, your rules.
@tgwiy - same with me.
I just don’t like hair..>.>
That would have made for less awkward times when I was 14.
y not
some girls are UBER uncomfortable with growing pubic hair, pluss they have to remove some of it to wear a bathingsuit
if it bothers them and they are getting rid of some of it any way
why not remove it all
under 16, DEFINITELY no waxing of the general genital area. if you want to that bad, then shave and deal with it. personally i think under 18 shouldn’t be allowed but on the other hand, 16/17 isn’t THAT young for waxing, so my ‘yay freedom’ self would have to say those ages should be allowed to.
brazilian waxing is expensive, but young girls as old as 14 shouldn’t be waxing down there :/ 14 is really young. Maybe 20 since it’s not considered “teeanager years” anymore.
@Bushy_Tailed - Put sexy, revealing clothes on little girls, the sort usually designed to show off women’s curvy bodies, and make women remove all their hairs except on the head! Then we can have it both ways, a circle of fail!
That’s a stupid reason. I dont think they need to be getting waxed that young though. Maybe under 16 or something. I’m a girl & I dont see the appeal of waxing. It fucking hurts on my eye brows which is why I dont go get it done anymore so why would I dump piping hot wax down there & rip out the hairs? Eeek!
@DistantStarlight - Well how would you consider a Brazilian Wax a womanly thing to do if you consider it to make some one childish?
@Bushy_Tailed - A) It requires pubes.
B) The end result is lack of pubes.
Damn, that’s YOUNG!! What exactly do they need a Brazilian wax for? Wait, don’t answer that! *shudder*
if they aren’t allowed to wax- they’ll just shave.
I think under 16 or 17. I just see that as the age when kids are maturing and becoming their own selves. At that point if they wanna shave/wax their choochies then they should go for it.
I’ve been shaving it since I was 16 and as of last year (I think?) I started waxing. It’s not even a sexual thing to me, it’s a comfort one. Not only is the skin so soft but it doesn’t get as hot down there anymore. And when I’m on my period I don’t have to be picking out nasty blood clumps from my hair.
I think it’s odd that someone would advocate making waxing illegal for minors, especially if they have their parent’s consent. It’s not like the parent is buying them crack or a hooker or something.
I totally disagree with allowing your 14 yr old to wax pretty much anything other than a unibrow, but that’s my conviction. I’m really cautious about precedents. I mean, what’s next–are we going to make circumcision of baby boys or ear piercings for baby girls illegal??
~V
NOOOOOO!!!!! I wanted to die the day hair grew down there. I was secretly buy razors… yuk yuk yuk hahahaha
I love my wax. love it.
And its nothign to do with sex, its do to with hygiene and feeling clean- for me anyway.
No. It’s just body hair. It doesn’t really matter if you shave it or wax it, it goes away either way.
There is NO way I would pay someone to rip hair out of my private area by the roots! And if either of my daughters ever lost their mind enough to want to do it, I’d take them to the shrink first.
16 is the legal age of consent in most states, so i guess it should be that. i don’t see why a 14 year old would even need to worry about that.
If the girls were going to ‘pornificate’ (pretty sure that’s not a word) themselves WITH the wax…chances are they’re going to do it without it. There’s such a thing as a razor. So no, I don’t think it should be banned. If it’s not endangering anyone’s health, I see no reason for it to be banned.
EEEWWWWW. of course not!
It is just like ear piercing. At one time you had to be a certain age to have that done….so the kids went out and got an ice cube…froze the ear lobe…used a needle, some thread or a small piece of cork. If they want it done they are going to get it done, either at a salon, at home, or at a girlfriends house. My dad always told me “You can’t legislate morality”…you can make it illegal but only education can help in any moral situation.
Um… Brazillian waxing isn’t always about sex. A lot of times removing hair down there is for comfort. Especially in culture like mine where women naturally have extremely thick and dark hair. A lot of girls start taking care of hair down there as young as ages of 12 because it is extremely uncomfortable when it grows. Also, some religions require women to be clean and free of hair in areas of their bodies during praying and etc. And shaving increases bacteria and makes you very itchy so it is not recommended. Most girls wax or use creams. It’s not always about sex. they shouldn’t ban it. and also, if a child wants to be sexually active at a young age, something trivial as body hair isnt gonna stop them. this is silly.
No. The individual has the freedom of choice to do as they will so long as it does not infringe upon another individual’s freedom of choice. An individual deciding for themselves to get a wax has no meaningful impression on other individuals, therefore it should be permissible. I would only consider waxing as a criminal offense if it was being done forcibly, against the will of the one being waxed. If such a case were to arise, then I may support a ban on aggressive waxing if I ever stop laughing.
think of hygiene purpose
They ban waxing for 14 year olds so they go to walmart buy razors and shaving cream and the same job is done. What’s it matter honestly? I started shaving down there as soon as I started my period because it was 10x cleaner. Not because i was a whore or because i slept around. I just didn’t like the hair there.
I think the bigger question is why a 14 year old would want one in the first place…lets address that issue instead of whether or not it should be legal to get.
Under 16, definitely. I mean… you don’t do that unless you intend for someone to see it, basically. (16 is the age of consent in my state. Consent with someone up to 30, to be exact…)
One shouldn’t assume it’s all about sex. The leotards and swimsuits for their sporting events don’t condone pubes that grow down thighs in some cases.
Well, if it is illegal to see ones genitals at that age unless your a Dr. Then absolutly it should be banned. Kids have no business even knowing about this SHIT let alone doing it.
there should probably be a consent form signed by the parents for a child that young.
hell, if i have to get a permission slip signed to go tanning because i’m under 18, 14-year-olds should have to get permission slips signed to get their cooter hair ripped out by a stranger.
No, of course not! Hair down there is annoying and should be removed however one sees fit. (or not at all) If they’re old enough to have the hair, they should be able to get rid of the hair. That doesn’t necessarily imply sexual promiscuity but a desire to be more comfortable maybe.
i started shaving ‘down there’ when i was like… 12. i’m 17 now, and that choice had to do completely with the fact that the hair just grossed me out – it was itchy and uncomfortable, and i didn’t lose my virginity until i was 14. i don’t see the big deal, they’re still going to shave if they can’t wax. anyway, people need to just accept that the times are changing – yes, 14 & 15 year olds ARE having sex.
Honestly, I started bikini waxing because I didn’t want the shit hanging out of my bathing suit. The Brazilian just made life more comfortable.
