A very specifically developed #5. Actually, I think you formatted your question wrong.
You asked “What is your religious belief?” which seems more a qualitative essay question warranting a detailed (if not long) response.
But then you go to list specific most common categories: A multiple choice answer which seems to be more to the question “Which common system do you most closely subscribe to?”
If you ask me that, then I’d say #5. But my answer to “What is your religious belief?”, since that is what you asked, is that I think God was a unique but nonetheless mortal soul who, with his unique circumstances during his living time, achieved all the knowledge and therefore attained all the power in the universe and with it created every ordered, animated, systematic or living thing we see, are and enjoy today.
He blew himself to bits before releasing his ‘God particle’ composite of a superdense and unstable “everything”.. knowing, of course that that would be his last moment alive. he let it go with a bang, saying “Let there be light” and his atoms got scrambled so fast that it’s likely his spiritual essence has indeed been left in some form of intact long enough to deliver onto us basic commandments so that we don’t ruin each other nor the things he’s built for us. And by “us” I mean humans and the trillions of other species out there that were put in this universe.
But, in his infinite wisdom gained through a very long lifetime, just in case we happen to corrupt the “word” beyond usability, as we seem to have done by now, he left us a pattern filled, logical mathematically sound universe in which we could find our way and find all the answers we sought, still in his own words.. only in such a form that we couldn’t possibly corrupt it.
In summary, I believe in “God” as extraordinary supreme living being who achieved his power and made his creation in the same way we do ours (though the circumstances of our existence differ so greatly from his that we can never be “god-like”) and thus became the father of all engineers, artists, mathematicians, scientists and so forth ever to come after. The first one to step forth and make everything, as the product of a long and uncorrupted life lived and I think we’re here to do the best we can, given everything we need right here on Earth and out in the universe to find all the answers we seek without guessing and occult and factionalizing the pursuit of truth and fact the way we have.
That’s what I believe.
5. Agnostic.
Atheist – baptised as a Catholic (twice) and attended an Anglican church in my teens until I realised religion (organised or otherwise) makes no sense whatsoever.
I’m a Christian of the Southern Baptist Faith. But why didn’t you actually name the ones left off your list, rather than put “Other”? I know of 3 that were not listed that would fall into the “Other” category, and each are entirely different. Was it easier to say “Other” and or for people to just list their preferrence when asked?

Dan,
Is this an invitation to preach?
I believe in the Universal Mind. (Or should I say, LINK) If I were to put a label on the concept, it would have to be “pantheism”, but it’s much more than that.
Couldn’t there be a belief system which preaches the similarities of all beliefs, and a system which proves that it is Mankind Himself who wavers and splits the True Belief into splinters, which war and bicker, and make Earthly Existence something less special than it is?
There is. We are all part of the cosmos, and when we pass from this existence to the next, we gain the Final Realization that will cause our “soul” or “essence” never to have to wonder about anything again. Every”one” past, present and future is a part of the Universe. There is no time. There is no life. There is no death. There is the Universal, and it informs us and permeates us.

Christian. (The real kind where I actually care about what I say & what I do aligning with my beliefs. I’m not perfect – NONE of us are, but I’m not going around drinking & getting drunk, cheating on my spouse, doing anything illegal, cussing like they’re completely acceptable words, etc). I’m a caring & compassionate person who doesn’t look down on others either. Though I admit to sometimes feeling hugely distant from some people because I just cannot understand them. Just because I don’t agree with other people’s behavior or beliefs doesn’t mean I look down on them though.
And as for the distinction between Christian & Catholic – I understand it. I may not know why Dan chose to differentiate, but I know why I would have. So I don’t think he’s that far off the mark. Not to mention, the people who claim to be Catholic is probably just as many or more than those would would consider themselves Christian. So just the size alone I would say gives way to their own category.
I wonder what new age means. but i have no religion. I believe in budda’s beliefs to a point, but I wouldn’t become budist. I do not believe there is a hell.
Eclectic with strong historical and ancestral ties to Mormonism. I think I’ll wait Monson out.
The alternative power block could have been catastrophic. He is tied into academics, and whether he makes a fool of us all, that is a more flexible and conversant foundation.Been thinking about joining the RLDS/Community of Christ. The ties are getting closer and closer as the pioneers grandchildren are dying off and the kids want to go back to the places from which we were driven. Housing prices are getting higher and there are start up universities, especially one in Nauvoo which belongs to a common historical and spiritual past. No short answers I’m afraid. Glenn Beck at his worst was the other power block.

All paths lead to the same place, or they wouldn’t be there, available. As for me, the right path is athiest-pagan. I believe in the power of prayer/spelling/whatever which has been proven, that whenever a group of people put their energy into a thought it seems to materialize. Someone once mentioned that God is us and we are God and God utilizes us to experience many different things, including a world where we do not worship him as an animate objectifiable being. A little like Stephen Hawkings said(paraphrased), “if by God you mean the universe and the laws therein, then why yes, I do believe in God.”
That about does it for my belief system
I don’t label myself any specific religion I simply believe what I want to believe. I don’t think God honestly cares what religion we worship him in it’s supposed to be about YOU and your relationship with him, and you shouldn’t think or believe in anything anyone tells you to. Follow what works for you but that’s just my opinion.

I believe in no religion. People need to evolve past the need for religion. Religion only causes conflict within oneself and with others.
I question all religions, and thus, my religious views do not fall under any of those of any these. I would say I’m agnostic, but I’m not content with not knowing either. While I do not know if I will ever find satisfactory answers, the journey to find them is, in and of itself, meaningful. I also believe it is meaningful that not everyone agrees. If only followers of different religions could agree to disagree more, because I tired of religious groups pushing their views onto others.

I don’t fit under any religious label, but I believe in God/the Spiritual. I love the Jewish faith and people, but I don’t believe in conversion. It is likely that my father was Jewish, but according to Jewish law, one is not a Jew unless one’s mother is a Jew. And mine was not. I like Christian Science and Mary Baker Eddy. I am non-Christian because I thoroughly reject evangelical Christianity as a fraudulent, idolatrous religion – and not much of a religion, at that. I believe in magick, which is spiritual action and manifestation. Without God/the Spiritual, nothing is possible, because that is the source of all manifestation. I like the Bible and the Jewish character Jesus the Magician, but neither is my God. Jesus is an example and a sibling of sorts to those who can read the Bible with some genuine understanding. Nobody needs to be literate to realize God in his life. It seems to me that many organized religions are a strong distraction from realizing God. Lucky is the man who is free from evangelism.
The Holy Fonz. No..Catholic :p But I do not worship the Pope.
@ShimmerBodyCream - I know I can always count on you to make me laugh.
Jesus loves me and I love him. I don’t like religion.
Undecided. Kind of. I’m supposed to be Hindu, but we’re honestly not that religious.
I’ve debated about this for a while with myself and others. I’m more of an evolutionist, though. Either that, or I’m simply unsure. I won’t know unless I die, and after that, I couldn’t come back and tell you. Maybe I don’t believe. I’m just not sure. But I’m NOT Agnostic. I know that much. It’s kind of contradicting, I know. But I have given serious thought to this issue.
Christian – unattached to a single congregation
@Sirius_Fan_Girl - i ususally say im an agnostic christian, because…although i believe in jesus and god and stuff, i really dont know what else is out there and im just blah on following the “rules” of certain religions. i respect all of them though and some people see me as weird for it. lol i really dont know what to call myself xD

Well… that depends on who ya ask. If you asked some traditional Jews, I’m not a Jew because I believe Jesus is the Messiah.
When a Christian asks me if I’m or was a “Real Jew” I ask them- if Jesus is your brother, are you not one? I get strange looks with that one! lol If you ask a Christian they will say – “your not one of us” because I follow the Law even though I believe in Salvation by Grace. The ones I know, can’t seem to get it that you can do both which is why parts of Modern Christian Church are falling apart at the seems. That whole Ten Commandments thing- He meant that! He did not come to abolish the Law, He came to full fill it.
If you want to follow the Roman Emperor Constantine (32 ad) and worship G-d on Sunday I won’t get mad but don’t get mad at me if I worship by G-d on Sat. I seem to remember it was a set of Roman nails that went into my Savior’s hands just a little FYI! and before you go there- I don’t hate Italians – I’m married to one- who happens to be part Jewish- That’s American for ya LOL.
Come to think of it I don’t hate anyone, although I hate what some people do- like using their Faith as a Weapon of War. I believe in the HUMBLE use of the gifts. In fact I believe in a Humble faith altogether! Some not only do loudly but boast about- which I find revolting. So there ya are- hated by some, confused by most, loved by few. If I can make my Creator happy that is all that matters to me!
Other… yeah that fits me well! LOL

Catholic! Are you going to tally the totals for us? I think that would be interesting.
Catholic/Christian
I am atheist and have been for a while, but I’ve been a member of a Catholic church in the past, because I went to a Catholic school, the only school around my house at the time, for 4 years. Then, I was a member of a Russian Orthodox church for 5 years, and now, I’ve not had any ties to religion for years.

Also… you make a distinction between Catholic and Christian… why? Are Catholics like Mormons or something?
Why not “Protestant Christian” and “Catholic Christian” and “Orthodox Christian” (and maybe “Coptic Christian”)?

@Lydia_Lynne - Dear Lydia, I’m reading a book by Karen Armstrong called “A History of God” and one of the most interesting things she pointed out so far is that when monotheism appeared on the scene, it was heretical to the established Pagan heirarchy. Cristian-methodist. I go to a Salvation Army church, so the correct term would be Salvationist. But the church did adopt a lot of it’s norms from the methodist church. My parents are also the pastors of the church. Before they were pastors we attended a Methodist church.

I’m number 4 to 5 on Richard Dawkin’s scale as described in his book, The God Delusion…. is anybody cares

Well… that depends on who ya ask. If you asked some traditional Jews, I’m not a Jew because I believe Jesus is the Messiah.
When a Christian asks me if I’m or was a “Real Jew” I ask them- if Jesus is your brother, are you not one? I get strange looks with that one! lol
If you ask a Christian they will say – “your not one of us” because I follow the Law even though I believe in Salvation by Grace.
LOL
