Secrets To Gaining Xanga Readers
I received the following message from someone on xanga:
“I am simply messaging to ask you for some advice. You have a large amount of subscribers. I don’t think I would ever like having such a big level of popularity. I don’t think I could handle it. However, even if someone is only expecting to have a small handful of readers, how do you go about gaining readers. Do you have any advice or suggestions?”
How do you go about gaining readers?
Comments (86)
Write. Consistently. Be patient. Read others. Comment. Keep writing. Continue being patient.
Comment on other people’s blogs and make friends with them =) Or just write good posts..I guess? I’m not much for popularity..
Comment on other people’s blogs. Find them through links your friends have recommended or have commented on. Your current friends will lead you to another who will lead you to another and so forth. Keep posting, reading, commenting, and they’ll do the same for you!
Get involved in a lot of drama.
show your titties or ass
I think there’s a feature where you can advertise your blogs and have it featured on the sideline as well.
Write, be yourself, comment, subscribe, add friends. Write.
Get Dan to post your name on xanga.
….
Who is this xangan, Dan? I’d love to read someone with that kind of balls.
Ask questions, for opinions… I think videos help too. Comment others’ blogs. Update Frequently. My problem is gaining consistent readers or people who will give me feedback (other than a few friends)
Bribe them.
Post pictures of your tits, duh.
A. Bash other Xangans.
B. Show nude photos.
C. Rant about the community.
D. Offer your opinion on an issue that’s been beaten to death a million times over.
Did you lose a bet with someone? What’s up with putting up the Xanga logo so often?
Being a dick.
But a clever one.
I mostly do it by accident.
@ShimmerBodyCream - My titties are being shown but I think it’s my personality that throws people off. However, I like my small group; they understand me.
Uhm… marshmallows.
@SirNickDon - forever w/ you
be patient is the most important in this case (:
Yeah, what’s with the logos =)
I can tell you that staying away from blogging for an entire year is not a way to gain readership.
Write an “I hate Dan” post. Works every single time.
Write about things that other people want to read about. I used to write for myself but on topics that the masses would enjoy, I had plenty of readers. But then I started feeling like I needed to be more myself and write about things I wanted to write about versus what people wanted to read about. I can tell you that has diminished about 90% of the readership I had. But you know what…those few that still come around and read my blog are the ones who matter. They come around through good blogs and bad.
write lots and read others blogs….and lots of comments
Who wants to hear advice from a bunch of losers?
Boobs.
@Roadlesstaken - with what exactly? hehe
@Hinase - whatever you got!
@Roadlesstaken - got me some good games and consoles? Do you think that would work? lol
consistent writing, leave comments for other, write about things that are relevant
Being honest! At least for the most part you get nice friends who respect honesty.But really it depends on the type readers you want. Me,I don’t really care anymore.
Why are they asking you for advice Dan? They should ask someone popular.
n00ds and sex blogs. duh.
keep your site on public, find random blogs and make a worthy comment, write something that will cause a debate and/or drama, subcribe to other xangans.
Write something worth reading. I’ve kinda been taking a break from that lately.
Blackmail
~ Build it and they will come ~
Go find blogs you like to read and comment and soon people will come and visit your blog. Go and sub to other peoples blogs and send them friendship requests.
@gwacemom@momaroo - LOL
I find that being myself and giving people a wide variety of blogging material to read helps. It also helps if you consistently comment on other blogs.
It’s unfortunate that most online web bloggers feel the desire to become a huge hit, to become someone and be recognized. It’s innate, it’s our desire to become known, and at times, I’ve wished that I had a thousand followers. But does it really matter? If you want to have a lot of readers, what does it say about you? The questions we have in life usually reflect ourselves and where we are at life. I started xanga more than 1000 days ago and probably have less than 5 readers. I write in mine to record my thoughts online, and hopefully, one day have my own kids who will be able to read my thoughts and learn from my mistakes, from my dilemmas, from my joys and thoughts.
Write whats in your heart. If all you think about is drama, fashion, opposite sex, then what does it say about you? I’d rather read blogs about those who are beyond all of that, who write something worth while. If you want to be an entertainer, go on youtube. better chances there.
How do I? Oh that one’s easy! I don’t. So if you want lots of readers, don’t do what I do. The advantage to apathy though is that while you may not get a lot of readers… well… I DID say it was apathy didn’t I?
I don’t really care about having a large readership. I kind of think writing just to gain popularity defeats the purpose of this place.
@ShimmerBodyCream - Didn’t work for you, though!
“Trick” Dan into reccing you. If you write a post about him, and he sees it, he will rec you.
@NikBv - You are such a cunt. One of those loose, hairy ones too!
@ShimmerBodyCream - Are you coming on to me?
@NikBv - Of course not. Wanna scissor?
@ShimmerBodyCream - Who needs to scissor when you’ve got a dick as huge as yours is!
Say something funny about Xanga.
@lglxl - well said.
I guess one unfortunate thing is that the most successful bloggers are not necessarily the ones who write the best material. They are the ones who can market themselves very well.
Interested in comments alone? Here: http://itswhateyeknow.xanga.com/732901605/getting-xanga-comments-is-not-rocket-science/ . It’s not rocket science.
wth? does this mean if i message you to ask about something, you will go on and ask the mass??
and not even linking back to my blog when doing that??
Try not to write about your life, because no one cares.
But, I use xanga as a way to document and vent and keep up with my friends in real life who live far. So, I write about my life, and don’t have a lot of readers, but that’s how i like it.
boobs
Why didn’t you answer the question Dan?
I like variety and that’s what you get on my site. Funny pics, educational vids, real life, my life, and occasionally BOOBS.
Do they want readers or commenters?
it seems you and I are among a few that know the true answer. But who cares about gaining readers? One should care about gaining friends.
Show your boobs.
Profile picture is super important.
Showing tits always works.
I has 3 readers with a picture of a stone on a hand with the glowing sund behind (very ephemeral!). Had like 0 to 1 hits a day. But in just over a month, the new picture has brought hits up into the 70s and comments in the 10s-20s sometimes! yay tits!
1. I write stuff people can relate to.
2. I comment like wild.
3. I am dedicated to some other blogs
4. Rec posts.
There’s tons of ways.
Be a friend
appeal to middle-age women
Write for a general audience, not only for your own amusement or therapy. Comment people, and not in an insincere fashion (that is, don’t leave comments that sound like advertisements for your own site).
Either
1. Post nude, sexy photos of yourself2. Write a lot of personal opinions about others (think negatively and write sarcastically)3. Post interesting videos (like makeup tutorials. you don’t have to be a makeup expert. some trying-to-be-funny makeup videos attracts more viewers!)
Or1. Write frequently on your daily life2. Post many photos of your cam-whoring3. Write intellectually4. Read a lot of other people’s blog and write constructive comments
@gwacemom@momaroo - hahahahaha this is funny. but i guess alot of people would read that one. lol.
Well, I used to get readers through being recommended for the featured blog posts feature, but that’s gone now.
lol i create my phoetic potography.. people seem to like so..
Well, I can tell you how NOT to get readers, and that is posting nude pics of yourself. Boy howdy, did that one backfire on me
@TheThinkingPerson - B final answer HAHA
Stop worrying about what other people want to read, and write for yourself. Otherwise, your writing is meaningless.
Add friends!
lol i dont care either way =P
( but you could make posts like yours xD )
I’ve had my xanga for 7 years and never really had readers except for like few of my friends who read it once awhile and it wasn’t until this year that I started reading others and commenting (often obnoxious comments that irked people lol) that I gained readers slowly. You need to comment people if you want readers.
Dear Dan,
1. I make an attempt to create art and literature with my posts. Sometimes they’re pretty long, but for my readers who take the time to read them, they’re worth it.
2. I make an attempt to visit my readers. I may not make it around to all of their posts. But I may remark about multiple posts in one comment.
3. I may not be “personal” in my blogposts, which for the most part are, and have always been, selections from my 10 year old personal website and art project, AllThingsMike. But I am personal in my correspondence with readers.
4. I make an attempt to write the best comments on Xanga.
5. I may not be a Xangalebrity, but I’m satisfied, and no matter how many people say “Xanga is Dead” etc., I find that if I make an attempt to socialize here, I never have to worry about being “bored” when I’m on the Xanga service.
6. I never have to make an attempt to go visit new blogs, because I’ve been here for almost seven years. But for new bloggers, I’d advise they make an attempt to visit and communicate with as many bloggers as they can initially. I’ve seen new bloggers do just this, and get on “top blogs” with their very first post, which generates even more visits, etc.

@quodmenutriut - Dear Khai, That’ll work. So will Dan’s recommendations on your blogpost.
@ItsWhatEyeKnow - Dear Lena, I love it when we plug our own blogposts on Dan’s blogposts. I’m going to go click your link now.
I just want to know what a footprint is. It always increases but no one ever comments.
Meh. I don’t. :-/ I called myself trying to, but I’m lucky if I get a valid view let alone some actual readers. Which is probably better, actually. People who maintain their interest in my blog are actually a greater value than just a ton of people adding and subscribing because of one cool thing I said. Quality over quantity….
write this message to theologianscafe. DEMAND that he include your name!!!!! that should get you a couple hundred hits anyway.
boobs. my old profile pic showed a lot of cleavage. I was getting over 200 footprints a week. now I get only 20-30 a week haha. totally changing back to my old pic. :p
I like your blog, check out my reality show “Asian guy and white girl” on my profile.
@zoetik - it’s called a “Plug”.
but also catchy titles and subjects.
You sir are a funny man.
Just blog.
I seriously don’t know what happened!
@Nytfyr - I see.
I don’t.
