Girl Who Threw Puppies Into the River
Remember the girl who threw the puppies into the river? The police found her and decided to not charge her with a crime.
The police in Bosnia said that the puppies were all rescued from the river. PETA is saying that is hard to believe. Here is the link: Link

It has no bearing on whether or not the puppies survived. The intent was to kill them. The act was done maliciously. If she was too young to be punished, then her parents deserved to bear it for her. This story makes me almost as sick as seeing the video originally.
I gasped each time the bitch threw another dog in the river! Those puppies look really young and the impact with the water and possible rocks and what not makes the chances of them actually surviving rather slim in my opinion. Terrible.

Whether the dogs lived is irrelevant. People who will *try* to kill innocent animals for shits and giggles will do the same to people. Killing (or intending to kill) animals is one of the classic signs of sociopathic behavior.

I hate PETA for a variety of reasons. I strongly disagree with the majority of their platform. That being said, I think that woman should be put in jail for a long, long time. When one decides to own an animal, one takes on the responsibility for that animal’s well being. That includes not only providing for its physical and mental heath, but treating it with the dignity it deserves as a living, conscious creature. Eventually, as a pet owner, one must sometimes make the decision to euthanize an animal.
But nothing gives an owner the right to deny a creature under his or her care its life prematurely, nor the life of its progeny. Having the power to preform an action is the genesis of responsibility and morality. If you don’t want puppies, get your dog neutered or give them away. Don’t throw them in the river.

Since I am native to Croatia, with Bosnia as my 1st neighbour I can say this is not surprising. I can also say that puppies could have survived. I would be surprised if the girl and her parents were charged because parents had nothing to do with the video and throwing of the puppies.

This is so culturally infused that we as Americans can’t really see it from there perspective. This very common in many areas of the world including here, in rural areas and historically, to reduce the rapid population growth of domestic animals.
it happens all over the world for population control of many different animals, animals are routinely killed to prevent over population which of course is better for all concerned.
Is spaying an neutering available and a common practice in this part of the world and do people value the ideas of the value of the lives of animals the way many modern Americans do? I doubt it.
This is probably a common rural practice.
Preventing an overpopulation of a species may be beneficial in the long run both to humans and the species and to preserve the balance of an ecosystem.

No and get real their eyes were not even open yet. In Bosnian they could give a crap about dogs. That place is where they have had a lot of people being being killed. Yes, I think that they could have survived. Puppies are pretty tough animals. I still think she should be charges with animal cruelty but not all countries even recognize that as a crime. I imagine in Bosnia puppies being treated badly is not really high up on the list of vital issues.

My puppy honey(we got her at about 2 months old) and a few weeks after we got her, she jumped in our swimming pool xD
She could swim, sure.
But she was weened, and there was no current.
Odds are, if the current was strong, and the water was cold, those puppies did not survive.
It’s sad, yes, but I’m afraid the best they can do is bring this person to justice(even if it’s as minor as a misdemeanor) and punish her.
I’m against animal cruelty, I’m neutral to PETA(I like their motives, but some campaigns are damn ridiculous.) and I’m a former vegetarian. (I might go back… But I like chicken :/ )

Are they going to tell me that isn’t animal abuse? She should still be charged for throwing them in the river. It makes me sick that she’s not going to get in trouble for this at all.

It’s a bad sign to treat animals or anything like that, but punishing her harshly or worse fining her parents would not help the problem. Probably what she needs is the opportunity to learn how to care for and respect living things (which would not be acheived by violent punishment or taking away money.) And I don’t believe having a difficult life is ever an excuse to behave badly, however, it should be taken into account as an explanation, not an excuse or a reason to ignore the problem.

I don’t know; those were awfully tiny puppies. They couldn’t have been more than a few weeks old.
If she couldn’t take care of the puppies, she should’ve sold them or given them away for free. If nobody wanted them, she should’ve tried a shelter. There were probably other options than chucking them in the river. That being said, I’m not sure if animals are as valued there as they are here, so whereas my logic would say, “Sell,” maybe normal logic over there would be, “Exterminate.” Still, though, she wasn’t right to do it like that. Drowning would be a bad way to go.
Far as punishment goes, she and the person taping should at least get a hefty fine. I’m not sure if I’d say it’s a jail-worthy crime (comparing this to common jail-worthy offenses), but it shouldn’t go unpunished, even if the punishment is only for exterminating an animal in an unnecessarily cruel manner.

As much as i would love it to be true, they didn’t make it. The dogs in the video are a different color then the ones the lady claims to have saved. She is neighbors with the girl and wanted to save her. Plus she said that animals are killed everyday in the village when sick…or whatever….so it wasn’t a big deal. Puppies didn’t make it. She needs to go to jail.

I see where you’re coming from; however, assuming this is a normal girl with a normal family, I feel that a fine would at least maybe encourage her parents to pay more attention to their daughter’s actions and convince them that she needs some kind of therapy. And if she does have that bad of a home life, then the government needs to step in anyway, because her crimes will, most likely, only increase in their level of violence as she gets older. But I also understand that this is Bosnia, not America, and life is probably quite different for their citizens, although I have faith that most people would generally know right from wrong regardless of their ethnicity, culture, or standard of living.

This is freaking sick. It makes me sick just watching the video. I don’t know how someone can pick up those innocent little things and through them in the river and scream “Whee”. How can you do that. She didn’t through just one, but she through six+. My heart broke when I heard that first/second puppy screaming/yelping when it was in the air. If I was there, I would have jumped in there to save each one, that’s just sick.
