Do You Want To Be Rich?
I was just reading an article about how Americans work harder than any other developed nation.
Apparently we are more productive and we take less vacation time. I was just talking to a friend today at work and he mentioned he is working 10 hours a day. I told him that it seems like everyone is mentioning how we don’t work 8 hour days anymore. It is just expected that we work more hours.
According to the article, Americans are motivated by greed to become rich. Here is the link: Link
Do you desire to become rich?

Yeah. Then I could give it away and use it to decrease world suck on a major level.
And maybe buy an island…
Not anymore, no.
I would love to be rich but President Obama and the Progressives are doing everything they can to keep me from getting there.
I don’t see the want to be rich as greed so much as a want to be able to support my family, and be out of debt. Short answer; YES!
Sometimes I’d love to be rich, just so I never have to worry about bills and such anymore, but I wouldn’t want greed to overtake my life.
I work to pay student loans, so NO, I am not becoming rich by working more hours, just getting by
No, so they try to kill me.
With all the paradoxes and other nonsense, it’s impossible unless someone just wants to hand it over. And then I’d be sued by a million people. You have to have status. It’s like, you’ll never make it. They’ll just take whatever you create. And if you don’t give it to them, they’ll do other, curious things.
The only reason I would want to be rich would be to annoy people. I would mock it. I would build a mini-castle with an icelandic pony.
It is possible to be wealthy via hard work, and not be motivated by greed. I wouldn’t mind that at all but I’m choosing to enter a profession where that is not a possibility.
I have no desire to be rich.
I’d say the motivation for that extra work isn’t so much greed as much as it is not wanting to get replaced by that guy willing to do more work for the same price tag. That’s why I worked 60 hour weeks.
And if you’re an unskilled minimum wage laborer, you have to work that kind of hours just to make ends meet.
I want to be financially secure and independent.
I’d be gloating if I even end up able to support myself in the future. >.>
Greed has such a bad rep…
I want to be rich, and I’m not letting anybody stop me. Too ambitious, and want a better life than I can dream of.
No. I have very modest goals in life. Wiping my ass with bills never appealed to me.
I want to eventually get out of my hometown. Call me crazy.
Oh hell yes! I have kids that need braces, I need some cosmetic surgery, would love to buy a new car…. so I would love to win the lottery
I dunno if it’s so much greed as it is essential to survive. Where I live you can’t even afford a shitty apartment if you earn minimum wage, you HAVE to work your ass off to even eat.
@emily_shannon - you’re crazy.
It’s all the same sky.
I don’t really want to be rich, I was for a semester in college and it’s not everything it’s cracked up to be, but, I wouldn’t mind being wealthy.
@ChocolateCoveredKittens - it’s really annoying, isn’t it? Then you’re like, can I just sleep outside and get some sleep? Then the police and everyone else is all over you, and it’s like, people have lived outside forever.
No. It’s the simple things like friends, family, nature and spirituality that make me happy-not material things because while they are nice, objects and wealth don’t bring true satisfaction in life.
I just want to be able to take care of my kids, pay the bills, keep out of debt, having working appliances…survival, basically. A trip once in awhile would be nice. It takes alot of money to even do the basics, let alone keep one’s head above water. Most of us, we work, we work, we never get ahead in this economy. Feels so hopeless sometimes. But the third one is almost out of braces… that is an accomplishment!
I don’t have a desire to be rich if it means doing something I hate or goes against my beliefs.
Alhamdulillah, I work to maintain my wealth.
yes! im not american though.
I want to have enough money to buy a bunch of land so I could live like a hobo. True story.
I’m not motivated by greed, so I don’t care much about money, but I would still like to be rich; it would allow me to help people who need it.
@The44thHour - Wait, are you a nerdfighter? How did I not notice this until now?
@designandart - First, you feel guilty, and then you get bored, and then you realize that if you don’t have money, you’re dead. And then you realize that you can’t generate any cash.
I would settle for affluent.
@grammarboy - I’m kinda new.
DFTBA!!
@Colorsofthenight - Ha Ha, I’d just like to get to the place where I could buy what I want – not much, and give to whom I want.
I don’t want to be particularly rich, just rich enough not to be living with my parents anymore…
I don’t think I’d fit in with the really rich crowd.
In spirit and love yes. Money is a bonus but not my first passion.
Yea I do, that is why I am going over seas to work.
My new stated goal in life is to become so rich that I can buy out the old alumni in the Dean E. Smith Student Activities Center and give the lower level seats back to the students, which is how it ought to be.
So yes, I do want to be rich, but not for my own benefit.
I want to be rich, but that’s not what motivates me at work. I work as a tutor, and helping educate others is much more important to me than my paycheck.
we should incorporate siestas and tea time.
Rob a bank . . . NO! The best way to rob a bank is to own one! Or be a senior executive of one.
No.
@musicmom60 - I agree. It’s hard to survive sometimes..that’s all that most people want nowadays. Just to survive
Maybe not rich, but just really fucking wealthy. And I only want to be wealthy if I made all the money myself with either my ideas or my own two hands….that is…unless I can win the money on an awesome game show like Deal or No Deal. That would be pretty fucking epic!
Yes, so I can build a castle orphanage in New Zealand or some other amazing place outside of America… Orphans deserve to live in a castle ^_^
first of all, japan is industrialized… and they work 60 hour work weeks. americans tend to work closer to 40 or 50 hour work weeks.
… i have no desire to be rich. i prefer having the wealth of love. i’d like to have enough resources to accomplish my dreams. but i’d rather not than enslave myself, than let another person call my dream hers.
Nope. Sure wouldn’t.
Of course I want to be rich.
That would be nice, but it’s going to take a miracle. My career interests won’t lead me towards wealth.
I’m okay as long as I’m comfortable.
I have no desire to be rich, but I would love it if my student loans would pay themselves.
I only work part time and my husband sometimes will work 45 hours a week and I hate it. I guess having loads of extra money would be nice, but I’m not really willing to put in long hours to get there, and I don’t even like my husband putting in the extra time for it.
I am, however, going to try to get filthy rich by becoming a super good novelist. If I’m going to attempt to be rich, it’s going to be by doing something I really love. Not working long hours at a job I hate. That would be such a waste of time.
No, I don’t want to be rich. I just want to be free of debt and able to pay my bills on time. Juggling a paycheck between mortgage, bills, and groceries gets kind of depressing at times. :p It’d be cool to have extra, and I’m sure we’d find a good use for it, but I’d rather be at a “just a little more than enough” level than actually rich.
My husband would like being rich. I think that’s because he’s the classic “I’ve gotta provide for my family” type who feels personal stress over our finances. I think he would like to not worry about it anymore by having money to spare.
I think there’s always something to be done with money and there’s never money “to spare”–it’s just not being used wisely, if that’s the case.
~V
@korean_biyatch - AGREED.
No. No desire whatsoever.
Around here we’re working to keep the lights on not to build wealth. Maybe we’ll get around to the wealth stuff later.
i thought koreans worked more
@lenybobsyouruncle - yay! someone else who realized his “stats” we bs
Yes of course and working hard on it now, but my reason to be rich is not for status or just to have money. I just want to live comfortable and have the money to support the lifestyle I want to live.
I have been working over 10hr days for over 4 years now. Not necessarily with the goal of becoming “rich” monetarily, but to be able to provide my family everything they need and/or want without being dependant on others. Not to mention the fact that I am a civil engineer for the DoD, and the federal government makes ridiculous deadlines for most projects…sigh…. Engineering majors take note, when you get out of school go into the private sector if you can find the work.
Kind of defeats taking a vow of poverty!
Rich? Not filthy rich, just enough to live comfortably and not have to work. And I don’t think Americans are hard-working per se, I think that they’re obsessed with making money so they have extended work hours into the evening and into the weekend to accomodate people, whereas in the 50′s, it was 9-5, monday to friday with little exception. People valued family and non-work time far more.
Work kills people. It’s true. Ask anyone who died recently because of it.
Work kills people. It’s true. Ask anyone who died recently because of it.
Work kills people. It’s true. Ask anyone who died recently because of it.
@obamawatch - That’s one excuse. Here’s another: you don’t have the wherewithall to become rich. The rich are rich no matter who is in office.
I’d love to be just-won-the-lottery rich, but I imagine more money = more problems. I’d be ok with just being able to pay my bills and live reasonably comfortable, not extravagantly. I’m not afraid to work hard for the money, but I’d rather work 40 hours and have time for my family and a social life. Money isn’t everything.
i wanna be rich, for greedy and not greedy purposes
Motivated to get rich? Or motivated to make ends meet in tough times? I seek richness/wealth, but not in a materialistic way.
I just want to live comfortably. Unfortunately sometimes you have to work your ass off just to do that. 10 hour days would be nice, haha.
i desire to be able to stustain my family and have them living well. i dont want to be rich, but i want to have enough money to go and buy my kids what they want and need. not everything of course, but enough to make them happy. i hate big houses. so yeah ^_^ i just wanna be happy, fuck being rich.
I’d love to have a great income, but not necessary to be “rich”. If I’m loaded, I don’t want to end up like some celebs out there.
I wouldn’t want to be too wealthy. Having a lot of money can cause more headaches…knowing how to properly invest and keep track of it all and such. And worries about people extorting from you, etc. I’d like enough to be quite comfortable, but not filthy rich.
I don’t think Americans are driven by riches. I think we have always been a country where every generation wants the next generation to have it better than them. Hard work is the only way to make that happen.
Frankly, yes. I desire to be rich and happy, but I know that the latter does not stem from the first.
i’m shocked to hear that americans work harder than most other countries. granted, i’m not american and i’m not familiar with the work environment.
but working 10 hours a day is the norm in china and hong kong. my friends are working 12 hours daily. for the accountants, they work 9am – 3am during high season (altho i think this is the same for most accountants who work for firms, regardless of geographic location?) it’s so chills here in canada. we work a standard 9-5, and complain if we have to OT for more than 15 mins. there are summer hours, you get off early on fridays, sometimes you get the friday off if it’s a long weekend. love it!
but i think in the end, it also depends on what industry/field you are in.
Not to the point of working 10 hours a day. Rich would be awesome, but family time and being financially stable and sound are more important.
I don’t desire to be rich. I would be happy with having just enough to get by and a little more just in case. But to be overwhelmingly rich is too much for me.
I desire to be happy. Being rich is not at all a goal of mine.
It is far better to drive up to your problems in a stretch limo than to walk up to them in cheap tennis shoes. You can quote me on that one.
Money used to be my primary motivator in my quest to become a lawyer. Then I realized I don’t want to sell my soul to some firm just so I can have money, but be dead of a heart attack at the age of 48 and never get to enjoy life.
So, no, not anymore – I just want enough money to not have to stress out about bills, and maybe a little extra to enjoy.
I have the desire to make enough money to live decently.
It was that damn “Ducktales” cartoon that did it.
Everyday.
Although being rich would be nice I don’t think its the best way to go. I think making enough money to get out of poverty plus a little more spending money is good enough. It also depends on how you use that money.
Sure, but it’s not a driving force in my life.
wealth/success has always been american values, so it’s understandable
have**
I’d like to be rich, but not because of greed. I want to be rich just so I don’t have to worry anymore and I can help my parents get out of debt and pay off the house.
No; knowing me, I’d get really lazy and complacent, turn into a huge self-absorbed jerk and alienate all my family and friends. Then I would die, 300 lbs heavier, of alcohol poisoning in a motel room bathtub, surrounded by Ding Dong wrappers and empty Jager bottles.
It would be tragic.
My parents work 10 hours a day, sometimes even more. My mother has no off days. And nope, we arent rich.
No thanks. I like being poor.
I can afford everyting I NEED and thats enough for me.
No…because if I was rich I would be dead!
I don’t want to be rich. I think it would be plenty just to be making enough to live comfortably. I don’t require any luxuries.
I am.
I want to live comfortable. Meaning not living paycheck to paycheck, be able to take vacations once in a while, go on nice trips etc.
I’m too lazy to work hard to rich-dom. I’m trying to avoid greed anyway. It’s a soul killer.
@ZepBlueEyedGirl - one day you will look back on you career choice. the zeros on the end of your 401K balance and iinvestment accounts and be happy that you are financially secure. You can then turn around, quit your job and give back to society and maybe your family knowing what it took. good luck in your career. You are one of the lucky
; It takes more than just desire, even in the US
I want to be rich in order to reach my goal because earning money is fun, and also building like something of your own is fun also like a car. And you need money to modify a car.
Nope. I want to have enough to live comfortably on, without worrying too much about money…preferably with enough left over to do fun stuff sometimes. I’d like to get to the point where even having that much doesn’t matter to me. guess that’s rich by a lot of people’s standards, but I don’t need a big house, fancy car, lots of clothes…. I don’t really plan on having a full-time job either, at least not for most of my life.
I thought the Japanese always worked 10 hours a day…
I know I sure dream about it. But I also know that I already am compared to the majority of the world. I can’t complain, and make it a point not to. I am very blessed. And I have been told that immense wealth has led to the undoing of many lottery winners. But I wouldn’t mind testing that theory. LOL.
I am rich. When I compare what I make, eat, do in 1 day compared to the rest of the world I know I’m rich. Yeah I worry about how I’m going to get my kids dentist/doctor bills paid, saving up for a house, etc etc… BUT when I compare that to the survival of others I realize how much more I have and how much more I need to give to others.
@mtngirlsouth - I agree with all of that haha
I just want to be happy yo
It would be nice, but I’d rather be comfortable like my father is right now. Good credit, and having the ability to just point and buy stuff. He slaved over a hot console for 34 years to get where he is. I’d like to follow in his footsteps, working hard to get the good things. It seems to me that with all the great things rich people have, they have MORE problems on top of that. Scandals, drama with people either wanting your money or trying to maim you for it…and I’d like to be able to live so I can get my nice house and drive in my pretty purple Corvette. So no, not really I guess. I don’t think I’d know what to do with it. I’d give to charity, help out some fam, and then…I’d probably lose my marbles or something.
I am, it doesn’t help.
And What about you Dan? Are you a slave to the dollar?
I don’t want to be Rich. I know him pretty well, and he’s got a real shitty life. I wouldn’t want to be him for all the money in San Francisco. Maybe all the money in Beverly Hills, though.
No. I don’t want to be rich.
Although, I do see myself becoming a wealthy bastard someday, but it’ll probably be more due to making good decisions and getting lucky than actually working hard.
I think americans should relax a little bit and be a little nicer to each other
Yes, because then I could use the money for others, as well as myself. I would be quite content if I wasn’t though, because at this rate, it’s likely that I won’t be. I just want to make enough money to be comfortable.
definitely
My parents worked hard to become rich, but they didn’t do it out of greed. They did it out of a desire to help their extended family. They’ve helped a lot of poorer family members pay for apartments, among other things.
First, even though America may be the most prosperous country, we are definitely not the most workaholics! I spent 2 years in South Korea & I will say with confidence that Asia is the most hard-working continent in all the world! (I am from America) These people work literally sometimes 6 am – 10 pm, straight (with just lunch & dinner break), every day, & they get maybe 1 week vacation a year! Literally, no lies.
Second, I am a Christian & I would like to humbly share with you what the Bible says about money:
- 1 Timothy 6:10 ~ “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
- Ecclesiastes 2:10-11 ~ “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired;
I refused my heart no pleasure.
My heart took delight in all my work,
and this was the reward for all my labor.
11 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun.”
- Matthew 6: “Do not worry. For your Heavenly Father knows your need & the pagans run after those things. Look at the sparrows; your Heavenly Father feeds them. & you are worth far much more than sparrows.”
- Philippians 4:19 ~ “My God will supply your NEEDS according to His riches in Christ Jesus.” (in HIS timing)
- Matthew 6:19-21 ~ ““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
- Proverbs 16:3 ~ “Commit whatever you do to the Lord & your plans will succeed.”
God bless you.
Rich as in having more money than I could ever spend? NO.
However, should I ever win the lottery & achieve this anyway – I won’t complain. Instead my plan is to pay off ALL my debt, my family’s debts & my husband’s family’s debts. Buy us all homes in the same area (but not the same neighborhood necessarily) & buy nice vehicles, etc. Live very comfortably & spend time together as a big family. And my husband, of course, could retire very early.
Rich as in having just enough money to live comfortably, have all my bills be paid on auto-pilot, vacation modestly & annually, easily buy gifts for holidays, birthdays & for friends’ special occasions & to donate decent sums ($500-$1,000 annually) of money to charities and/or causes? HECK YES!!!
I believe that even the best of people would be extremely susceptible to becoming cold, snooty, unpleasant & greedy people should they ever become “filthy” rich. Just like the Bible says, “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:24.
Sometimes you ask things with really obvious answers, this question is one of them:
DUH
Yes but not through work! lol
@MDrabing83 - The age of retirement influences those statistics a lot.
I would love to be rich. I’m not gonna lie about. It would be utterly amazing not to worry about how I’m gonna pay the monthly mortgage and bills and whatnot. People may say they don’t want to be rich, but I highly doubt ANYONE wants to be poor and spend all their time stressing about how they’re gonna afford to put dinner on the table.
I think for many of us we’ve overextended due to bad money management and thus we need to work more to make ends meet. To answer your question, nope, but being moderately wealthy would be nice.
Lottery Strategy
That Will Work for You Did
you hear the story about the Oklahoma professor that was shot in the left foot
after winning
the lottery three times? This is not
a joke. It is the truth, it really did happen.
This
professor hit the mega lottery three times.
He was attempting to leave the mall and was abducted by two men that had
their faces covered by masks. When he
began to make a run from the vehicle that they has placed him in he was shot in
the left foot. He was able to continue
running until he reached help. You
might be wondering why these men tried to kidnap him in the first place. Well, the reason is because they wanted to
know his lottery
strategy. They wanted him to tell
them how he has won the lottery three times in a row. They knew that he had to have a lottery plan
that worked and they wanted to know what it was. In fact, they even threatened to kill him if
he did not tell them what the lottery secret was. So,
you are probably thinking the same thing. You probably want to know what the
lottery code is so that you can apply it and see if it works for you. I can assure you that it will work for you
and you will be amazed at just how simple it is. The man that was shot in the foot spent eight
years of his life developing the lottery pattern that has become so very
successful for him and he wants to start sharing it with people just like you. Now,
you may be skeptical but I want to let you in on another little secret. He has
shared his lottery
code with others and they have been just as successful as him. As a matter of fact, one man won $37,000
after just two weeks of using the lottery strategy
that the professor is going to share with you.
Another individual won $100,000 in just one month. It is amazing
how the lottery
code can change a person’s life. It
can do the same for you and the professor knows that. He understands how it can
help people reach their goals and live comfortably for the rest of their lives. Now, you may be wondering why this man would
want to give you his lottery tips when he could save them all for himself. Over the years he has been able to experience
how good it makes him feel to help others by giving his lottery strategy to
others. This is why he wants you to have
it. He does not want to be greedy with
all that he has won. He is find a
positive way to give back some of his winnings and you should be happy about
that. Click here to visit the Official “The Lotto Black
Book” websitehttp://tinyurl.com/6k985no
