Tolerance For Stupidity
My wife told me recently that I have a high tolerance for people. She said I can put up with difficult people.
She was making reference to someone I knew and that I always talked about that person in a positive light. She met that person and she said the person was really annoying but I never mentioned the person was annoying.
Do you have a high tolerance for stupid?
Comments (110)
lolno.
Depends on how stupid and their position of authority.
I have a very high tolerance in general, although there are some things I have zero tolerance for… Like intolerance.
I have a high tolerance for stupid – if it’s because of a mental illness. If you have mental issues that are biologically not your fault – be as stupid as you want, and I will work with you. But if you’re stupid … without excuse … then I have no patience.
Yes.
My fist, however, does not.
We often disagree.
My fist usually wins.
So sad.
All my friends are easygoing and intelligent, so… uh… probably not.
if they begin inferring with my actual life, i tend to become hostile.
For the most part.
Tolerance is all about accepting variety. Stupidity should never be tolerated, however, because it invariably brings about catastrophe.
Nope. Stupid people aren’t people.
I have ZERO tolerance for stupid.
Usually I can.
I have a high tolerance for stupid and many other things.
@OhMissKett - LOL
Yes, but it lasts but for so long.
No, I hate the more words they try to gather.
hell to the no!
Depends on the situation.
i read you, don’t i? i kid i kid. i have a great amount of patience when the person is actually mentally disabled. as for retards, no, i don’t.
I’m tolerant of stupidity only when I’m at work and being paid for my patience. Once my shift is over, then it’s a resounding, “hell no!”
No. There is no excuse for stupidity. It usually means people are just too lazy to use their brains… and I’m extremely intolerant of lazy people…
After you have children, patiences begin to be a stranger. You forget what it was like to take it easy.
@grammarboy - see, this is what makes you such a sweetheart. i mean that.
yes
@hilaw -
<— You made me smile like that. Thank you.
Yes I do. I got tired of being annoyed by them all the time and decided I’d better change my attitude if I wanted to be happy. They sure weren’t making any fewer of them. Intelligent conversation is hard to come by with this states literacy rate.
@grammarboy - you’re welcome
Only when I’m the one being stupid.
Not at all, and it seems to grow less and less the more stupid people I cross.
NO.
I have very little patience for stupidity/slowness/disorganization and overall lack of common sense.
No.
I hate democracy, I’m a terrorist, I’m insane because they fired a giant laser in my head that made it impossible for parts of my brain to communicate because they were afraid I do something that takes a brain dead person to accomplish anyway. I was only in my slot due to extreme abuse and depression. If I don’t say it, they’ll make me say it, and there’s no hope. So? — and that’s your realization.

As usual, they value their freedom so much they’ll take it from me. Grow up and take the better government. I’m not the only one saying these things, yet since I’m an invalid, they’ll always come after me.
You are all human.
All you have to do is find some sort’of vanity within the person and cater to their pleasing, and you’re good. The only things that matter are the things you like.
And to be honest about the reading of my backthoughts that they decoded incorrectly — you can pay up, and if you don’t, I”ll get a herd.
“I have to make room for new life.” Prior, I was isolated and horny. So? I was thinking in that emotional hue with Uninvited.
You people are way over your head. So you have the status of cash, wahoo. That will not save you from the eternal night. Get away from me. Now you’ve placed me into a mental prison. I won’t work, and I don’t have to.

Oh no, now you’re going to make me retarded because I should have been terrified. I can’t feel fear anymore. I can’t defend myself.
How funny are the hapless of fate.
This is how I lived before, and it’s the same output.
@saintvi - Perfect answer!
Well I read your blog, so I must have SOME tolerance
I kid, but in all honesty, I don’t have much tolerance for stupidity.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z–h4BDYg5A
Now I’m supposed to hope that someone will save me. Who would ever, right? mwhahahaha mwhahahaha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kudz_mew18
Then all of us of this realization hue fall out, and you level down.
Haha, just the other day I was wondering if you had a wife.
Not because I’m creepy, but because of the post you wrote about the “Xanga Bucket List.”I hope you weren’t chatting with that Chica like that while you had a wife
But if people are rude to me or my friends, that’s where my tolerance kind of wears out.
Anyway, sometimes I do. There’s a difference between stupid and rude. If people are just lacking knowledge about something, then I’ll help them. I can be polite and helpful to people when I need to. I worked in retail
I can tolerate stupid, wrong; I can not.
I have a high tolerance for most types of difficult people but I do have my limits. They’re very seldom boring
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-mYX0qKkB8&NR=1
It doesn’t hurt me.
YOU want to feel how it feels.
YOU want to know that it doesn’t hurt me.
YOU want to hear about the deal I could have.
I’ll swap all places.
Usually I ignore the stupid people and eventually they leave me alone.
But for the ones that I am forced to be around . . . No, my tolerance for them is pretty low. Sometimes they make me physically ill. Not cool.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVFLgx8o7XM&feature=related
I try to, but it only lasts so long
i have a very low tolerance for stupid
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
- Albert Einstein
@BebstersBlog2 - I can’t ignore them. I have to serve them. If I want to look at a bud light smile, that’s on me. I don’t need some psycho raising Hell. If I think immortals are retards, that’s my own thought. Here, take my liver. It is so exaggerated with me.
They come through cameras and stuff.
High tolerance for ignorance, LOW tolerance for stupidity. Difference being if you SHOULD know better.
People make me sad. All the ones who said NO!!! so proudly are probably ones who call for tolerance on many other levels and really just carry on that way because it’s “kewl”. Sheep. If you want tolerance and want to live in peace without bringing others down because of petty differences, or simply because they annoy you or you think you’re so much above their “stupidity”, but can’t even learn to tolerate people who just haven’t yet learned to gain some presence of mind, well, sucks to be you.
I know I’d much rather tolerate “stupid people” and not lord my awareness (if I do have any) over them, but let them through whatever stupid shit they do when they come to find they’re not being the best they can be, without acting all holier-than-thou. It’s all a learning process. But this is just another way for truly annoying beings to feel superior over others! heh. The comments were telling.
Stupid is as stupid does. I see a lot of stupid things people say on here all the time but don’t think they are totally stupid just ignorant of facts.
LOve that picture LOL!
@BloodIsLove - This is a really good point.
There is no such thing as dumb as there is no sin but of ignorance, which isn’t a sin but a bad habit.
as long as they’re not arrogant.
I didn’t think so, but when I get compared to other vocal atheists on Xanga I’m told I’m one of the more tolerant ones. I don’t know if that’s an insult to Xanga atheists or a compliment to me…
Sometimes. I accept a certain amount of ignorance and naivete – if you don’t know something, you don’t know it. Not your fault, no reason to get annoyed. But if you
should
know something – like it was explained in class 9,000 times already, or I’ve already shown you how to do this task a million times – then it just becomes laziness, really. And that’s when I get annoyed. You can’t have things spelled out for you all the time. Do some thinking!
That said, I think I have a far greater tolerance level for stupidity and such than some people I know. Sometimes I’m too patient for my own good.
I like your poster and the words that come with it.
i generally do have a high tolerance, unless i’m just having a bad day. i’m pretty good with dealing people no one else i know wants to deal with.
@C_L_O_G - nice one. i started off tolerant. but i was young. then it all got too much. now i think – i hope – i’m getting to where you’re at.
@throughthinking - yep. stupid arrogance chafes; and capricious use of power by stupid, powerful people chafes absolutely.
Stupid people are often more dangerous than evil people.
i used to. but then the other side started ‘drawing a line in sand’ by buying weapons, and advocating extermination of my ‘sinful’ mentality, and so i no longer tolerate them.
Nope, because I believe stupid is contagious.
i don’t have a lot of tolerance…for anything. it’s problematic, eh?
Lately I find a low tolerance for a great many things. That’s when I just thank God I’m not the stupid one & realize I can’t dwell & must move on.
I do of ignorance that is willing to learn, but stupidity out of stubborness, nope!
Somewhat, because stupidity can be cured with education quickly. Ignorance is different, and educating that sometimes needs a smack upside the head.
I’m still on Xanga, aren’t I?
I try not to let people get to me. I think some people are just too impatient and too easily offended. It really depends on what you mean by ‘annoying’, though. I can’t stand rudeness. If you are bothering people just for the sake of bothering people, I think that’s inexcusable. If you are acting in a juvenile manner, you better actually be a juvenile. If you are a juvenile, I’ll cut you some slack, but not a lot.
As for ‘stupid’ that could mean a lot of things. I don’t turn people away over a lack of intelligence. Neither will I abandon someone because they hold mindless opinions (but we’re probably going to avoid talking about those opinions unless they happen to be outrageously interesting). What really bugs me is people who just don’t care about the truth or don’t care to see a situation from someone else’s point of view.
I have a high tolerance for unwilling ignorance – I have a low tolerance for stupidity-induced close-mindedness.
I thought I did, but I don’t. I think I’ve been stuck in the ivory tower too long. Theoretically being tolerant of stupid people and actually being tolerant of stupid people are two very different things.
Yes, I have to. Murder is against the law here!
while stupidity is annoying, some ppl are born dumb. rudeness and lack of tact is something i truly have no tolerance for.
but i do try to disassociate myself from stupid people constantly.
In my everyday life, no. At work… whatever gets me tipped.
I’ve been told so.
At least it’s a genuine thing. I get annoyed by things someone can stop doing.
I used to… but I am slowly losing my tolerance…
I wish I had patience for people D:
Not really, I get annoyed easily.
I have no choice.
I used to.
My neighbor who I always talk about was not all there sometimes, or lacked common sense, but I still talked to her because she seemed nice and we were both Filipino so we had that in common and because she was young I let it go, so I tolerated her. My husband though couldn’t stand her because she is so dramatic and ignorant and he really can’t stand stupidity. After a few months though she started doing things or saying things that were just plain stupid that she got annoying after a while, so now I can’t stand her anymore.
I used to be not intelligent. I should have a tolerance for stupid.
I really have a low tolerance for stupidity. Can’t stand it. In a “special needs person”? That’s another issue entirely, having raised a special needs kid. But in people who should know better? arrgh!
I am very patient and tolerant of many, many other things, and love diversity and tolerate most all differences. But stupidity is a behavior and an ignorance; that’s another thing.
I especially hate public stupidity…on the road, in stores, in restaurants, in print… Has me shaking my head at some of the things people do and say.
Define stupid.
No I have not a bit of tolerance for stupidity
I have to have a high tolerance for stupid to live at Freed-Hardeman University and not end up murdering everything. And I must have had one early on in life before I skipped several grades.
NO. My bulls*** tolerance is VERY low. If you’re being annoying or stupid around me, I usually won’t tell you to your face (unless I know you very well… but then you know not to be annoying or stupid around me), but I will get out of the situation as quickly as possible (my exit sometimes accompanied by a scathing glance or eye-roll), and I will not spend any more time than I have to near you in the future. Stupid people annoy the CRAP out of me…. O.O
Zero tolerance for stupid.
I have absolutely no tolerance for stupidity. Which makes me question why I bother with Xanga. The amonut of sheer, raw, unadulterated stupidity I see on this site daily boils my blood. Religious idiots, prudes who scream that seventeen and nine months is way to young to be thinking about sex, nasty bitches whose lot in life is so bad that they have to go online and insult men to make themselves feel better… this place has them all and more. In spades.
Yeah, sometimes it is very hard to tolerate.
None.
No.
No i do not have a tolerance what so ever to stupid people.I would rather have no friends then a friend that i think is slowly depleting my IQ ;}
I try to. I judge people by their hearts, not their intellect.
i don’t even tolerate my own stupidity, why should i tolerate it in other people?
I can take them in small doses. It’s when they’re stupid, attention-seeking and clingy that they start to become a problem.
I tolerate stupid. I’m nice…
I try not to dismiss people as “stupid” or “annoying” because I know I wouldn’t like to be thought of that way; every so often they happen to be right and *I’M* the one who turns out to be stupid.
Besides – I think being patient with someone (aka “tolerating stupidity”) is the best way to make them realize they’re not being very smart.
Awww…you’re so nice. LOL! Pfft.
I don’t see how you could get through life without a high tolerance for stupid people… they run everything!
I can tolerate stupid as long as they are not pretentious. It’s mostly ignorance that bugs me.
I regularily visit Xanga, don’t I?
Haha. NO! My sister is way worse than me though. haha
I have no tolerance for stupid people. I also don’t have much tolerance for physically lazy people, like the people who will wait 20 minutes for a bus and get on the bus just to ride a quarter-mile to the store. I can walk that distance without a problem – and I have a mild physical disability.
No…and it is growing shorter as I get older.
I have a high tolerance of people. Ignorant people, closed-minded people, etc., etc. A lot of them fall under the category “stupid” though.
Of course I have a high tolerance for stupidity.
You almost HAVE to in this day and age.
I like to tease stupid people in an effort to help them realise how stupid they are.
Maybe I am all tied up with symantics but to me ignorance is treatable, stupidity is terminal. So yes, I have patience with stupid people.
Just because your wife thinks that person is annoying doesn’t mean they are annoying… Or does that mean that they are stupid…
You have no idea…
