  • Is Your Blog Entertaining?

Does your blog have any entertainment value?

Now most of the blogs I see on xanga have very little entertainment value.  Instead I see blogs on xanga that essentially thrive off social value.

What I mean is that the person comments other people and people comment the same person back.  So the main reason the person is read is because the person has commented other people.  So that means the person’s blog has social value.  But there is no entertainment value.  In other words, if the person stopped commenting other people the person would not be read.

This is why you see so many people who leave xanga fall on their face in other blogging platforms.  They overestimate their own entertainment value because the social value of their blog blinded them to their lack of entertaining content.

Does your site have any entertainment value?

  • Nope.  Nobody who has ever read my blog have found anything funny or entertaining about it ever in the nearly six years that I’ve been on here.  I blame the lack of music.

  • Nah, it’s mostly a journal for myself.

  • Yes, in a sense.

I aim to insult, degrade, and caricaturize the religio-conservative while elevating my enlightened liberal, godless ilk to the clouds. If I don’t piss you off then you’d find yourself nodding your head in agreement.

  • well its not funny, so i would say no

  • I’m not entertaining at all. bahahaha.

  • I don’t know. Maybe.

  • Nope. Well, maybe once in a blue moon.

But mostly, there are people here that I’ve come to care about, and there are some that care about me. And I think that’s a powerful thing. Maybe not so much about comment-reciprocation in my case (I’m terrible about bothering), but I’m entertaining myself. And that’s what matters, after all. :P

  • Every now and again.  Not so much though.  :)

I generally get emails from friends talking to me about it, more often than I have comments from xangans.  :)

  • It better be. I spend hours drawing shit for you guys. In fact, I’m drawing something right now.

  • Not really. I don’t blog for anyone but myself. My blog has no social value because even if I comment on other people’s things, they don’t really come to mine or even view my site. Again I don’t mind, because my blog doesn’t have entertainment value, which decreases social value.

  • Not so much. And I know it’s the “too hip for ships” club that says that’s not a big deal, but I’m more interested in finding the *right* audience than reaching a large audience with amusing content. Oh no, I much prefer musing content, so to speak.

  • My ex-gf didn’t think so

  • Nah and I don’t really want at some point bunch of the same comments from people seeing as I usaslly quotes on my page. If I get comments I’m happy but there are days that I get annoyed that I don’t get them but what could I do? Mass message everytime I update xD

  • Mildly on occasion.

  • that’s something kind of for other people to decide, isn’t it?
i never thought i was entertaining, or very social, but people read it?

  • Usually entertaining, but pretty sappy lately now that I’ve found love :D

  • What’s a blog?

  • i truly believe mine is. i work hard on it for myself and others. it’s personal and raw and i have good loyal readers that i always appreciate.

  • nope. When Xanga first started, I tried to have music on my site, but the codes never worked. I think i got it to work twice but since i was not a premium number i could not have multiple songs

  • @LSP1 - What’s a blog?

It’s an antisocial bubble weaved from the refuse of the internet.

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - Yes, I totally despise your blog. That’s why every time I go to it, I LOL.

I’d like to think that my blog has entertainment value. ._. I don’t really comment, so that can’t be it.

  • Not usually, but the last one was pretty funny and entertaining.I had fun doing it too even though it was a lot f work

  • @Celestial_Teapot - I’m a little Teapot Short and Stout!

  • My blog has no social value and it’s not entertaining… I mean that’s high quality stuff right there… :D

  • @Inspectorgrampy5 - lol. =), makes me smile every time.

  • I write what I write, take it or leave it, When I badly want feedback, I generally get it because I am willing to ask for it.  So I guess my blog is a grab bag.

  • not in the least

  • @Celestial_Teapot - I flipped when I found that on Playlist.I just KNEW you would love it LOL

  • I don’t think I’ve been entertaining for quite a while.

  • @Celestial_Teapot Wow, that’s pretty heavy. How can I attain one of these? What if I’m allergic to bubbles? What if the weaving comes apart? Where does the refuse go? Why are you a Celestial Teapot? Does that have any significance with blogs?

  • Yes.  but my opinion isn’t necessarily yours- so you should check, please, if I’m lying again.

  • I don’t want to entertain as much as I want to touch the heart, or the mind. Preferably both.

  • Maybe it used to, but not anymore.

I think it has very little of any value at this point. :P

  • On occasion, I suppose.

it’s entertaining to those who enjoy poetry and nonsense.

  • I have some followers, but they don’t say much.

I am currently looking for a direction to go with my blog. It needs something.

  • Nope. You don’t even visit my site Dan. I am self-loathing and all about toilet humor. No one comments so I should remove myself.

    sad right?

  • @ItIsAllGravy - I find your blog ridiculously entertaining…

And eh not really. I’m trying to make it more entertaining but I don’t seem to have that “thing” the more popular bloggers do…they just make the most boring shit sound awesome haha.

  • Mine does sometimes, but usually not.

@jess_i_cuh - Sure I’d second yours being entertaining.  Sometimes more than others but overall a fun read.

  • Not really. Mostly it’s just where I put stuff I’ll want to remember later that I don’t want cluttering up my bookmarks.

  • IDK, it’s not to entertain anyone but myself…
It’s a personal journal and if some one stops by with something meaningful to say then awesome… if not then oh wells for me. lol

I also enjoy reading others more so then getting some one to read mine…

  • Some of my blogs really do. My Xanga carries some of those posts, too.

  • eh not really, sometimes maybe, but I would say no. =D

  • I’m still new to xanga, and blogging in general, so I’m getting my bearings on the whole concept. I’m not sure what people like to read about, and I’m not sure what happens in my life that is blog-worthy. But I like to think that once I get the swing of things, I will be entertaining. At least to myself, and I suppose in the end that’s all that matters because the internet is going to fall out eventually anyways.

  • Ask vanedave apparently he likes making drama about other people guess who was fresh on the list?
    http://vanedave.xanga.com/739796752/i-am-flagging-myself

  • mine definitely does not. but i could definitely name a few that are very fun to read!

  • Nah. I write with no audience in mind. The only people who would find it interesting and/or get what I’m talking about, are people who know me well in real life.

  • Not unless I’m being emo and writing at 2am where the creative juices flow even if I don’t want them to.

  • mine doesnt. unless you find me interesting, i just write my blog for myself. just little updates, whats going on etc. i keep it simple. i did notice that with the ‘top bloggers’ most are not all that incredible. they just do what you described above. but itisallgravy. i really do think he’s funny

  • No value at all. Nada.

I don’t even have social value since people just use the reply button. Returning comments to commenter is a thing of the past.

  • Oh hell no. My blog is boring.

If it were entertaininging, then it would have a following.
If it had a following, people would know who I am.
And if people knew who I am, and cared, then the jig would be up!

  • My blog is about my life.  As an under-employed bartender who also happens to be a licensed attorney.  I don’t know WHO would find entertainment value in that, and I CERTAINLY do not qualify as a social blog.

I blog to bitch about a lot of people I HAVE to see face-to-face, to a lot of people I’d RATHER see face-to-face.

  • So what is the entertainment value of your blog?

My site has ZERO entertainment value. If possible it would be in the negatives. But then again there may be some people out there who like reading stories about emotional and medical problems, the fun side effects of medications, therapy sessions, how my mom cheats on my dad and still gets away with it. Crap like that.. I comment people only when I want, or when I feel like it’s relevant and they need the support. Most times I just get too lazy to read all the shit they wrote

  • Nope, mine is a journal, thats about it.

Unless you like sonic. I guess.

  • Nope. I am 100% pure bore

  • My old blog did, but that’s why I switched to this blog, people don’t have expectations of it being entertaining, so I don’t have any obligation to fulfill to keep my readers.

  • it’s for me. no entertainment value…unless you happen to like the music i like :]

  • depends on what i write about :P

  • My blog has no entertainment value whatsoever. BigShow’s, on the other hand..now THAT is entertainment.

  • Nope!  But I have no idea what you are talking about with folk just leaving comments to get comments themselves……….check out my blog by the way!

  • I hope my blog does. I don’t comment much because I don’t have time to really browse and even keeping up with my subscriptions is trying sometimes, but as you say, even if I don’t comment someone’s blog I’ve still only read it because I find some usefulness in it. I guess entertainment has different definitions for different people. I find certain serious things entertaining, I find most all photography entertaining, and I find good writing entertaining.

  • Hmmmm…I don’t know if my blog has entertainment value, per se. My posts tend to be long-ish and tell a story so I think that I do not attract readers easily but once I have them they tend to stick with me.

I find that YOUR blog is entertaining though. =)

  • Never really thought about it… Don’t use it for that reason. Here for ten years as a cathartic exercise,  Xanga is my invisible therapist…. I’m not concerned about writing for an audience here,  I go elsewhere for that.  People who write on Xanga for an audience are like insecure High School students clamoring for attention.

I think the whole idea of “blog” is an extension of the personal “journal” anyhow… There are writing sights for aspiring writers and ‘blogger’ and ‘wordpress’…

  • Of course I have felt the “thrill” of having a submission featured on a “sister site” but when I write something I feel will fit a “sister site” I submit it,  otherwise it’s basically bla bla bla…

  • Occasionally. But I don’t really care if I have 1, 0, or 1,000,000,000 readers (although 1 would better than 0). I’m kind of mostly doing it for myself. If I  get a nice comment from someone once in a while, I’m happy. :)

  • Some of it is entertaining, but for the most part it’s where I vent and cry since I don’t want anyone to hear in person hahah.

  • Never..so don’t visit mine.

  • Not really, but then I don’t write it as entertainment in the first place. Primarily I write because I have been commanded to write my story, to give my testimony whether anybody reads it or not, and to respond as an Ambassador for Christ to any who read me and then speak to me.  Secondly I sometimes write simply because it is therapeutic for myself, but the follow-up if any is the same.

If I leave a comment, it’s purpose is either to support and encourage or to enter a conversation; sometimes it’s both.

Xanga calls itself a community and I am comfortable in it.

  • Hell to the yeah!

    Yours, on the other hand…YAWN.

  • Nah, but I don’t think I write about entertaining stuff anyway. I write what’s on my mind and write only for myself. If someone finds one post entertaining, that just happens to be a plus. But seeing as how most of my friends who do read it don’t have accounts, I don’t expect comments or anything like that~

    But good point~!

  • I’d like it if people actually visited my site to read my posts on a regular basis, but since mine is more about my own life (not like other blogs that entertain and ask people what they think about something), no one usually read them unless they came across a comment of mine. So… no.

  • I write for myself most of the time, which means that it is completely MY writing style. I’ve been told that my entries are somewhat amusing at times.

  • Haha, no, I highly doubt my blog is inherently entertaining. Useful, perhaps, but not entertaining.

    ~V

  • I must have some entertainment value, because I’m the world’s worst at returning comments and people still come by and read me when I put a little bit of effort into what I write. I don’t think I’m that big a deal, though.

  • Nah, but it’s really just for me anyway.

  • My site has no value. I keep it to keep it.

  • Not really. Every once in a while I have a relatively entertaining post, I think, but not that often. I just write shit about my life.

  • I do mine for myself so I will know” where did the last year go?”

sometimes I’m funny when I don’t even mean to be and I get to laugh at myself when others point it out

  • This post of mine was meant to be highly entertaining:

    http://armnatmom.xanga.com/739744427/sexy-taco/

  • You’ve really let yourself go.

  • Nope, but I blog for myself. What shocks the hell out of me is that there are other people who actually read it.

  • I think so off and on.. but I do the blog to keep myself sane..I could care less about comments and things.. but I see your point Dan.

  • that’s not really what my blog is for. ha.

  • not for strangers, i blog for my friends in real life and for myself.

  • Mine, when I actually decide to update it, is geared entirely toward my macabre sense of humor.  Whether I’m lampooning someone, relating a personal encounter or just reviewing a movie, I make it as funny as I can.

  • I guess so. People seem to like it.

  • I don’t think my blog is boring. I read and rec others because I either am entertained or I was sincerely happy to learn more about the person. I believe wee are all here for ourselves first – no matter how much attention that’s seeked by others.

  • Psshaw monsieur. Mon posts est tres interesante! It is obvious that you are jealous that you were not invited to the Illuminati. -snort- Do not fret mon ami, Xanga still loves you. Au revoir,

    -Jacques

  • Nope. But my blog isn’t supposed to be entertaining. It’s supposed to be an outlet for the stuff I keep inside my head otherwise.

  • no.. just a personal journal. i am usually just talking to myself or venting.

  • I don’t know if mine is entertaining or not. You can be the judge of that. I just write about things in my life, post photos of my son and the growing belly from the baby and more recently photos of things I’ve made. I get plenty of people coming by to read and comment so I must be interesting enough for them to take the time to comment! I even just had someone ask me if I am selling the hairclips I’ve recently started making :) I don’t blog for social status or value. I blog because I enjoy sharing my life and it’s a good place to just get things out sometimes.

  • Not really. I just write about my life and stuff. I dont do the whole entertaining posts about random shit. I would, but I am too lazy and talking about me is entertaining to me.

  • People seem to enjoy what I write.  Especially if it is a story about someone getting hacked to death or something of that nature.

  • it doesn’t have any sort of value whatsoever…

but at least it’s entertaining to me…

  • At first I thought I would hate this post but I didn’t. so comments for you

  • Not really. I just write whatever is on my mind at the time. Sometimes it’s about pizza, love, sex or God.

    Yours is rather entertaining though.

  • I would like to think that it does.  It would be nice if I could get a few more comments to let me know if it is or not, though.

  • Your site has a lot of entertainment value! I find myself truly enthralled, wondering why the hell you keep posting such pointless shit!!  :D haha I guess somebody’s gotta be that guy, huh? Good for you, man

  • mine’s for my use only. i appreciate when people read and comment, and i like to comment back and add friends and subscribe to people, but mine is a journal for me to rant and post pictures i like. i’m not out trying to gain viewers and be popular and on the front page. occasionally i’ll have stuff that i’ll like to get people to read but not often.

i mostly just like to find people i can relate to and talk to.

that said, COME VISIT MY PAGE GUYS. :3

  • huh-uh, nope, not at all.

  • Sometimes, but not always. My blog is mostly me talking to myself, but I’m not going to lie and say I don’t want readers. I like when people are interested in what I am writing, but I’m not a slave to what I think other people will like.

  • I don’t write to entertain… I write to remind myself of events.

…or for me to read again, months/years later (=

  • dang, i certainly hope mine is a mix of both! (entertainment + social)

  • mostly mine is reflections, but it’s relatable to situations other people have had. hopefully mine will gain that value, but starting out, sure i comment on other people’s i read until my audience reach is more broadened from posting more :)

  • Nope, i write mine only to keep family up to date on what’s happening–at least to a point.  I rarely talk about feelings and stuff for that reason.  sometimes i wish i had that space, but…

I also tend to get very little comments, so this is another hint i don’t do it for social or entertainment value.  Most of the time anyway…

  • I blog for myself. It entertains me.

  • Does your site have any entertainment value?

    Nope.

  • I didn’t create my blog for entertainment purposes, I created it to get some things off of my mind, I wasn’t comfortable discussing with people in real life.

  • My blog entertains me. :) That’s what it’s for. If it entertains you, that’s just an added bonus.

  • My blog is for me to talk about things that I am too embarrassed to share with friends and family. And once in a while, it attracts people. But I never meant to have an entertaining blog.

  • Not to you I presume, but then again I find your blog lacking in character as well. Everyone has an opinion, and it has little to do with commenting on other peoples items. It has to do with finding the right crowd of like minded individuals.

  • I came to write, not entertain. I’m sure someone out there finds the melancholy of a 25 year-old fat lady funny, but I mostly joined Xanga to have somewhere to write stuff. I could have easily decided to choose Blogger or WordPress….but uh…I dunno. At the time, it seemed nice here. It’s great to have views and comments, but I’d rather not get into the line of entertaining people. I’d have to maintain it and would end up stepping away from why I originally signed up. I’m social when I want to be, comment on a lot of different blogs. At the end of the day, it’s usually the same thing for me–a few readers, a rare comment. And that’s actually pretty good.

  • just no value period.

  • I made a funny anecdote about the GEICO Gecko in my post today, which I found immensely entertaining. Did you mean entertaining to other people?

  • If mine has some (which at some times it probably does,) it’s just a happy accident, not the intent. I’ve tried doing posts for the purpose of involving other people before, trying to engage people in discussion. But though I submitted my posts to be featured, I guess the powers that be didn’t see enough value in them (although I never submitted them to the “ish”sites, so I suppose i could have tried that.) So I never got anyone to reply.

The main purpose of my blog is just for me to vent and/or ponder and/or just generally process things. I’ve had one consistent reader over the past 8 or 9 years, and that’s ok with me, because I value her input more than the input of 1000 readers who would’ve just popped on to my site for shits’n'giggles.

    To each their own.

  • Nope… doesn’t even really have social value either cus I don’t comment much XD but I’m ok with that.

  • My blog is more like a documentation of failures. Not very entertaining.

  • i have no idea, why don’t you school me. instead of telling us what we don’t have why don’t you tell us how to get it.

  • Yes and no.  I know exactly what to post that will make others happy, but half the time I’m depressed and I don’t feel like it.

  • I get a few comments from time to time, but no real fans of the writings. Truthfully I couldnt care, this was a place for me to vent and say what I want, not to entertain others.

  • No, I don’t think my xanga is very entertaining and I don’t want it to be especially entertaining. I guess I would want it to be more than anything a reflection of my thoughts and life generally. I’m not just out there trying to get hits or ‘entertain’ people. I’m sure I could find smutty pictures to post regularly or put a lot of links to bizarre stories if I just wanted traffic. However, I think the world has enough entertainment but if I may be so conceited I think the world is thoroughly lacking in me. Whether it wants me or not is I suppose is another question.

  • I don’t have a blog to provide entertainment for someone else.

  • My blog mirrors my real life attitude of ‘I really couldn’t give a fuck’.

After 9 years I can rarely be bothered to write any more. My blog has been with me on the rollercoaster of a ride that is my life, that’s all it is, a diary.

I think it was ”entertaining” at a few points, mainly because I was fucked out my own mind 99% of the time.

  • @learning_moderation - Yeah, some people seem to think we should provide entertainment for them… ha ha, yeah ok!

  • fake watch include a huge variety of women wristwatches. It has custom .70 ct. beadset diamond bezel with 30 round cut diamonds set in 18k yellow gold. The most important feature is the Italian-made 18k yellow gold President bracelet fitted with 232 diamonds.

  • Heh? …Oh, I guess not.

  • Your blogs are BORING and you are a LOUSY host. You have zero interaction with your commentors.

  • Not really. My xanga is partly just personel rambles but also part insight on topics i’ve had experience with. I just started this blog but eventually i’ll be writing about much of my 18 years on this planet being a military brat, moving around, new schools, child abuse survivor(not victim), weight issues as a preteen, drugs, being the cheater, divorced parents and why it actually isn’t easy.

Not a pitty blog or “i’m a victim blog” but a blog to relate to if you’re feeling like a victim. Because I am the last person who will admit to being victim to anything. I see all of these depressing blogs on xanga.. and i hope that they will read mine and find hope.

  • Does my own entertainment count?

  • I’d like to believe that my blog is somewhat entertaining, people love movies and funny posts with pictures.

    *Xanga’s Batman Out*

  • It depends on what people consider entertaining.

  • Hell to the NO!  It’s my intellectual left hand.

  • i’m not really sure. But I don’t usually drop comments to make you feel obliged to leave of a comment. Reading blogs is fun. That’s all there is to it.

  • Not really, but I clearly state that my blog is not written for entertainment or for readers pleasure, my blog is written for me and me only. It is a pubic blog so people reading it and commenting is a plus, but I’m not trying to become a celebrity through xanga and I’m humored by everyone who is. But I kind of agree about commenting. I comment on blogs that I like only, and I don’t bother to read blogs that I don’t whether someone commented on mine or not.

  • Nah. I write pretty much just for me. I entertain myself.

  • It used to be.

  • It was Saturday!!

  • I don’t think mine has social or entertainment value.

  • I am the boring guy that is blessed with a few very nice Xanga Friends. I guess I am social. I try to be entertaining.

  • I’m not sure that mine does frankly. But I also have very few readers… So I think I’m a xanga reader and a writer for my own personally gratification more then trying to get hits.

  • Nope. I don’t aim to please others with my personal thoughts.

  • I’d like to believe so… But I think anyone who cares about that answer, or asks the question, is thinking about the wrong thing when blogging.

  • My blog on Xanga is for myself so no entertainment value, just randomness.

  • i think mine does to some degree

  • Nope.  It’s a big day in Pixieland when someone reads me.  Practially a national holday if they leave a comment.

  • I’m quite sure my blog has absolutely no entertainment value whatsoever.  It’s mostly just a journal, and while the occasional comment is nice, and I like the social interaction from time to time, it’s mostly just for myself…a place to think, vent, archive.

However, I really enjoy reading other’s blogs with entertainment value, and also those with “food for thought”.  Mine’s just not one of them.

  • @Mijacogeo2001 - Why is that thinking about the wrong thing? Some of us are aspiring to be published authors. The only way to get there is to be entertaining, otherwise why would anyone read anything? Blogging is one way to practice getting there.

  • I guess if you wanna hear about my life. If not, no. Actually I’m not too bad on tumblr. My blog on it does fine and it has more emphasis on not having a giant community of people to constantly comment.

  • Mine does. Heck, you’ve been to it a few times and I like to give a pretty good show. I just wish others would catch on and give me some feedback.

Sometimes it’s not that much fun for a comedian if only a few people are laughing…

  • @SerenaDante - I’ve read lots of writing (mostly, but not only, online) that would be entertaining… If I could get over the errors in grammar, spelling, etc. If you have problems in those areas, you will be much less likely to be hired as a published author.

  • Mine has on occasion.  It served its purpose and on occasion it still does.  …serve its purpose I mean.  As for entertaining, maybe it still does that on occasion too but mostly it goes unnoticed.

  • I guess not ALL blogs are here simply to try and please other people. I never thought people would just want to say something from time to time. Even if no one hears it.

  • not really, I dont think anyone even reads mine.

  • Hmm.. well I just started Xanga, but I find that it’s hard to have entertainment value.

  • depends on my mood.

typically it’s a rehash of my personal thoughts, feelings or opinions though.

  • I’d like to think so. That was the original purpose of my Xanga, though it has morphed into more of a personal blog, yet again. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but after I got over my initial disappointment and just blogged for my own sake, I eventually came back around to posting entries that are similar to what I envisioned my Xanga to be at the beginning. I have 2 recent posts that are strictly for entertainment value, titled Odds and Ends and Odds and Ends: II. I guess my Xanga is a sort of hybrid, though I rarely, if ever, receive comments. (I’m okay with that.)

  • Hm…

That must be why you get so many comments here.

  • Sometimes I think Xanga is a popularity contest and the content has nothing to do with how many people comment…

  • No. I am really only here for the social aspect between myself and a couple of close friends. I don’t have the time to spend “being entertaining” just for the sake of saying, “Oh, look at how smart/funny/etc. I am!” As you’ve said before, this isn’t exactly a paying gig. So I don’t quite get why some people try so hard to

    be

entertaining, if we’re being honest. Is it really just the ego stroking?

  • I’m honestly surprised people still post here. I’ve been on Xanga for about 7 years and have posted less and less here. The nice thing about the old days of Xanga before facebook is that there was a good solid group of people who posted and commented regularly. Now with fb and twitter and tumblr, so many people have moved on. I still write here occasionally but I don’t put as much effort into my writing as I do just venting and talking about stupid crap, pretty much always protected. It’s hard to get a solid readership away from Xanga, for sure. While I’m sure some of it has to do with the entertainment value of one’s blog, I think it’s also just hard to find people who want to add yet another blog to their list if you don’t have something to hook them in.

  • @SerenaDante - Good for you; Me neither… But my point being that should be a bigger concern when writing than the entertainment level/value.

  • Article is very interesting, thanks for your sharing.
