Republican Topless
I know. I know. I wish it was Sarah Palin too.
A politician had to resign after he sent a topless photo of himself to a woman on craigslist. He also flirted with her and told her he was single even though he was married. Here is the link: Link Bill Clinton’s party finally find this sort of stuff offensive.
Do you think he should have to resign for sending this photo on craigslist?

haha, who DOESN’T have topless pictures on Craigslist?
If he were a Democrat, his party affiliation would be considered unimportant and the woman would somehow be at fault. But since he’s a Republican he must leave office, if not the whole country, and his party affiliation must be known by all, because his story is such an important cautionary tale or something.
Sexual improprity can be easily found on both sides of the aisle, it is with certain Republicans– ”values” politicans, social conservatives– however, that the ordeal carries the bright tinge of hypocrisy.
To answer your question: No, I don’t think Congressman Lee should have resigned.
@randomneuralfirings - Yeppp.
Nah.
No, he should not have to resign.
I’ve said it before: No. Who cares anyways? Why does it matter if he sent a topless photo of himself to some lady? And not meaning to sound sexist but it’s a man. Men are allowed to be topless.
Stupid thing to do. Yes. Resign? Na. And within three hours of the story breaking? He should have thought it out a little more.
@randomneuralfirings - Democrats don’t claim to be the party of “family values” or the moral backbone of America like conservatives do. When the hypocrisy of republicans becomes apparent, it’s only natrual to point it out.
Yes, he should resign for this and for the same reason most all Republicans and many Democrats should resign.
Because he is a Friggin IDIOT!!!!! How f-ing stupid can you be?
Oh yea…he is a republican.
@randomneuralfirings - If he were a Democrat, his party affiliation would be considered unimportant and the woman would somehow be at fault. But since he’s a Republican he must leave office…
Like John Edwards, right?
i thought that was dumb he resigned. the only i could think of is maybe he just didnt like his job? lol
I read a post once that said the nicest thing we can do for a deceased friend is have their computer hard drive totally erased.
He should claim that it’s part of a campaign to promote his new workout DVD, all profits to be used to support peace initiatives in Egypt, and a live tour by Lady Gaga. If he couldn’t think that up in 30 seconds flat, he has no place in politics.
Not for the picture, certainly. It’s a little embarassing and myspace-ish, but the picture isn’t the problem. His behavior towards the woman in question might a point to argue about, depending on how close it came to harassment.
Meh, I can’t think clearly enough to be decisive right now.

@ANVRSADDAY - Ha, I’ll have to remember that one.
@ShimmerBodyCream - if you do, I’d love to see them. jusssst sayin…
Only if any Democrat getting caught doing the same thing is forced to resign as well.
Democrat President Clinton squirts jizz all over Monica’s blue dress and it’s only sex.
A Republican sends a picture of himself without a tee shirt on and he’s drummed out of town.
Democrat Charlie Rangel gets caught committing serial tax evasion and he gets reelected to Congress.
Republican Tom Delay gets convicted of trumped up charges of money laundering and gets convicted and sent to prison.
We live in a tyranny where Democrats are above the law
At least he wasn’t like those democrats who got arrested for propositioning sex in a bathroom stall in a Minneapolis airport or sending IMs to underage male pages.
@randomneuralfirings - Right, like John Edwards, Elliot Spitzer, Bill Clinton, etc… the media totally left those guys alone and never mentioned their party affiliations and none of them suffered any consequences. There’s this little thing called confirmation bias – beware of it.
Anyway to answer the question in the post – no, he shouldn’t have to resign. I could care less what politicians do in their personal lives. And in fact, he doesn’t HAVE to resign at all; this was his choice.
I thought this was going to be like the Ricebunny post you did before.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Exactly my thought. Larry Craig acted illegally and Mark Foley unethically. The worst Congressman Lee did was embaress himself and strain his marriage. I don’t know if the dude would haev survived through the next election cycle, but I certainly don’t think that this is cause for resignation.
@Celestial_Teapot - Oh wait they were Republicans but FOX news said they were democrats
he doesn’t look half bad…
but def. no need to resign. maybe a promotion? jk.
@janusfiles - No one forced anyone to do anything. Congressman Lee resigned on his own volition.
Congressman Lee committed an imprudent act. If he is too “stupid” to realize that anything you put on the web is as public as putting up a sign in the front yard…He is too “stupid” to hold an elected position in our government. I am in agreement with the artical linked in this blog, that this country has too much on it’s mind right now than to become divided on a moral issue. His resignation therefore spared the country, but his family and friends will still be affected, I’m sorry for that.
nice pecs
loose the gray.
No. I think people should laugh seeing how he’s “republican” and “married”, but I don’t think he should have to resign.
This is almost as big a deal as when Brett Favre texted those penis pictures which can be found here:
http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2010/10/brett_favres_penis.php
That’s a bit overboard.
gotta admit that’s a pretty impressive body
No, he shouldn’t need to resign. I’m about as Progressive as they come but it does not matter to me what political affiliation someone has; there is no reason any one should be forced to resign on the grounds of sex and affairs.
But was he forced? And if so, by whom? It’s possible he resigned out of fear of his supporters.
When my family values abstinence obsessed congressman resigned I couldn’t care less that he was banging the campaign girl. But, I was glad he left because he had ruined the lives of thousands.
You really wish it was Sarah Palin? Yeesh.
No they should take away his Viagra instead.
I’ve posted topless photos of myself on the internet. As it was, it turned out very badly. Not only was I topless, but I was subjecting myself, via risky behavior, to a serious disease; skin cancer. However, in remaining foolish and stupid I still only wear trunks to the beach.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Wasn’t the bathroom sex guy a republican? I remember there being a big deal made over the ‘wide stance’ comment. Or was that a different guy?
@ZombieMom_Speaks - Larry Craig is a Republican, yes.
@ZombieMom_Speaks - yeah that guy was a Republican but when FOX aired the story they put a “D” behind his name as they did with Mark Foley who tried to get a little something something from an underage male page.
@Rob_of_the_Sky - or they should take away his prescription plan for Viagra.
my immediate thought is: if you can’t even maintain something as basic as a marriage, what makes me think you can handle bigger responsibilities?
my afterthought is: if someone does well in his job, does his personal life really matter? we don’t remember people for their personal lives, we remember them for the impact that they make on the world. i.e. MLK.
he didn’t have to resign. but that doesn’t mean i would vote for him.
No. Only if he were specifically a values-based politician. But no one has said that he was. So this affair is his wife’s business and not mine.
At least it was to a woman and not an underage boy.
I don’t think he should have to resign based only on the picture. I think it would be different if he was a single man, but he’s married, so not only was it inappropriate for his job, it was inappropriate considering his marital status. I have a bigger issue with him doing this while in a relationship than I would if he was single. If he was single, I wouldn’t really care.
I think it was a good idea for him to resign, especially for his family. I mean… he screwed over his wife here, and at least he’s getting out of the public eye somewhat instead of making things worse for her. I don’t know if it was the best move politically, but I think it was the best move personally. Although, if that was MY husband, it would be overrr.
You know, this is ridiculous that he resigned. I think it is a scumbag thing for a married guy to do, yes. I have no clue if he was pressured into resigning or volunteered it (so maybe he was looking for an out?). If he was pressured then that would piss me off (as well as others I’m sure) because look at Clinton – he was DEFENDED after actually having an affair and IN the white house nonetheless. Nobody (successfully) pressured him into resigning and nobody impeached him either.
No but he certainly has put his marriage in danger.
He’s pretty good looking. I would say the most embarrassing part of it is that he’s married, otherwise, he would just be a man flirting, and there’s no harm in that.
As for whether any politician should resign when they caught in a semi-embarrassing, somewhat sexual scandal? Well… they are our representatives. So it could be argued that part of their job is to adhere to a high moral standard.
In the end, he should listen to the people in his area. If they still feel that he represents them well, they can re-elect him
It’s pretty ridiculous. This has nothing to do with his ability to run a country. It’s an issue in his personal life. Why is personal life so important when we talk about someone having to leave their job?
@randomneuralfirings - …Yeah, okay. The fact is that no matter what party did it, the other party would demonize them and say they aren’t fit to stay in office.
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - Yes, let’s find more examples of people that fit your point of view and ignore the ones that don’t, shall we? And if you want some examples that support my point of view, read this comment: @chaospet
no.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Ummm…that was REPUBLICAN senator Larry Craig. : P
@ThereWillBeDragons - But FOX News put a “D” behind his name when he was arrested so only Democrats are criminals
My gosh, I don’t think that is an offense worth resigning over. But the voters can decide in the next election if they want him to return. Wait….that’s right, he’s Republican.
@godfatherofgreenbay - lol…somehow that doesn’t surprise me.
Not bad for an old man but still…. NO
I thought he was cute. Stupid but cute.
@Celestial_Teapot - what are you trying to get at? John Edwards held no office when his affair with Rielle Hunter, and child thereof, was discovered.
@getyourownsandwich - LOL, my thoughts exactly.
Well at least he’s in good shape hahahahahha
@seeker_nyc - He suffered politically for it, the media and the public did not hold back condemnation. The same goes for the former Democratic governor of your state.
What do you think, you fat Mormon? Was Congressman Lee’s faux pax unfairly covered or was he forced out of office?
@Celestial_Teapot - whoa, what’s with the ad hominem out of the blue?
Ex-Congressman Lee gave his picture to a woman not his wife. That woman then sent the pictures to Gawker, who immediately published it. Lee resigned. It’s his own damn fault.
As for Edwards, it took the National Enquirer to spearhead the affair story. The media was reluctant to follow up on affair rumors, probably because he was a Democratic politician.
@seeker_nyc - ”whoa, what’s with the ad hominem out of the blue?”
I’m an mean person. Mean people are prone to random personal attacks. =D
“Ex-Congressman Lee gave his picture to a woman not his wife. That woman then sent the pictures to Gawker, who immediately published it. Lee resigned. It’s his own damn fault.”
Sure, I agree. My reply to randomneuralfirings (which you replied to) was of this position. randomneuralfirings chalked up the resignation to partisan news coverage and partisan political treatment.
I was a bit upset with your reply because you quibble over details while orphaned from an actual position (on the OP) or without seeming to care much about the general positions involved (of mine or randomneuralfirings’).
“As for Edwards, it took the National Enquirer to spearhead the affair story. The media was reluctant to follow up on affair rumors, probably because he was a Democratic politician.”
There are a few more meaningful factors to the diminished Edwards coverage:
1.) Any news reported by the National Enquirer would have difficulty getting traction. Most outlets have probably has trouble taking the publication seriously.
2.) Edwards was becoming politically irrlevent. He didnt’ do so well in the early caucuses.
3.) Concurrently, there were more interesting news: Like the 2008 Presidential Election? Obama, Clinton, McCain, Huckabee, Romney!
