Conservative or Liberal?
Ok. Lets have everyone participate. Someone told me recently that those who comment on my site are conservative. This never is the case based on the polling.
You can’t say you are in the middle. How would you classify yourself?
1. Extremely Conservative
2. Slightly Conservative
3. Extremely Liberal
4. Slightly Liberal
Comments (159)
Slightly Conservative. Mostly Robofthesky.
Very much 3.
42….I freely embrace our robot overlords.
4 – slightly liberal. I do feel as though conservatives are a bit overrepresented around here sometimes but recently i felt like it started to balance out.
2
Slightly conservative.
In general I’m for smaller government and less taxation. But I’m against a flat tax (though I wasn’t until I did a year of policy debate about taxes) and I’m also against nuclear power. I’m all for natural gas and algae oil though. Just not the government paying for it.
depends who i’m fucking.
rob of the sky
Oh, and 4 – Slightly liberal
Extremley Liberal.
I would equate bi-partisan politics to a national scale game of hungry
hungry hippos, in which the average American is a faceless marble of
ignorance waiting to be devoured by a tainted perspective.
A mix of both 1. and 3. Which I know the more narrow-minded would consider mind-boggling impossible, but it IS possible.
Slightly liberal, but I’m registered nonpartisan.
slightly conservative.
It depends on the issue at hand…I think that means I’m independent? I don’t quite understand the politics of our government enough…
None of the labels fit me. I am for single-payer medical care and abortion rights. I don’t believe in waste, especially financial waste. What I’ve seen in California is that values focus on luxuries instead of necessities, and creating jobs that need not exist to fill needs that were concocted. Californians do not need storm windows, but when our president cuts subsidies for programs that provide them to unwilling recipients (on privately owned properties), headlines state that he is hurting the poor. I saw a newspaper that told of major cuts in school funding, but another article said that the high school wants to buy dozens of iPads. iPads are toys, toys that the high school wants to spend money on in school rooms that have no air conditioning. I am against unions, as they are inappropriate in a capitalistic society. Given these few beliefs of mine, how can I be labeled?
1.
Liberal.
2 unless I’m out trolling.
Extremely moderate.
2
Dyed in the wool liberal. #3.
@tendollar4ways - Somehow I doubt that.
Extremely liberal. I would be very content to declare as a socialist if I didn’t think my dad would disown me.
slightly liberal
i guess extremely liberal.
Rob of the Sky, which is mostly number 3.
Depending on the issue both 2 and 4. Which to me equals option 5… INDEPENDENT. Or starting my own party, called the Freedom Party… which endorses the Freedom of Choice on every issue and is fiscally conservative as a base platform… unless that party name is already taken… in which case it will be the Party Formerly Known As Freedom Now Known As Nee (sp).
my hubby says slightly conservative
2
3. Extremely liberal.
Sorry, by eliminating the independent from the possible answers I am unable to answer your poll truthfully.
2
Mostly extremely conservative, but for some things I’m slightly liberal, depending on the issue. Maybe that means I’m independent? I’m not that political, but my religion matters greatly to me and influences me on many things.
I guess a few aspects of both, but over all very liberal.
Political spectrum based solely on a left-right axis is fail.
i’m not extremely conservative but i’m more than slightly conservative… meh.
let’s just go with slightly.
i feel like there are more liberals on xanga in general than conservatives. i don’t know why. it just seems that way to me.
and i feel like it’s probably true that more conservatives comment on dan’s site.
wonder what the poll results will be.
slightly liberal.
we had a guest speaker come into my political science class last year and he said that 4 out of 5 times you feel/vote one way or the other, even if you declare yourself as being independent so independents really don’t exist.
i just thought that was interesting to share.
None of the above.
3
extremely liberalll
Slightly Conservative
Slightly liberal.
I am 3-extremely liberal. And if you would like to voice your political opinion (conservative or liberal), please head over to the weblog I run–POLITICISH!
Firmly centrist. In fact, if the political grid spectrum were a target, I would have a dead-center bullseye. So don’t tell me I can’t say I’m in the middle, Dan! lol
Liberal
Extremely liberal with a touch of practicality thrown in.
1. Extremely conservative
yes
2
Slightly conservative to an extent.
Extremely Conservative
Slightly conservative… I’m guessing.
1, but of course that means I also have a soul and a social conscience. I’m quite tired of the labels though. I’m a Christian who cares about the unborn, fair taxation, financial help for the short term, no free rides, and pull yourself up by the bootstraps and get to work kind of guy. I believe your rights end at the end of your nose, and just because you decide you are attracted to the same sex does not make you a minority.
Slightly Liberal.
Slightly Liberal. Since you said I can’t be the middle.
1
number 1 ftw
^.^
hahahaha…. Let’s just say I’m a Republican and proud of it!
Independent isn’t an option? So would it be safe to say that I am slightly conservative and slightly liberal?
3 for sure
5. None of the above
…but for the sake of the poll: 3.
2. Slightly Conservative
I would label my self as exteremly conservative.
You probably should define what liberal and conserative are, or at least which definition of them are you seeking. Liberal in most cases means the same thing, but conservative depending on where you live has many different meanings. The brand of conservatism that I subscribe to is the belief in a small and limited federal government that respects the confines of consitutional law.
Extremely liberal.
I’m a moderate.
I’d probably choose 4 if I had to choose, but I’d rather not choose any.
Slightly liberal.
Slightly conservative, but mostly just want the government to leave us alone.
I’m for personal freedom, pro-life, un-intrusive government, strong defense, dead constitution — what we used to call liberal but now call conservative.
Liberal-Leaning-Fiscal-Conservative.
If Bible Believing Christian is a Conservative – then that’s me.
A liberal conservative LOL@tendollar4ways - You are a bad liar too
2.
According to the Political Compass, I am slightly conservative. And slightly libertarian.
Slightly liberal. I believe too much in personal responsiblity to be #3.
3-4
Extremely American and slightly over this sort of thing.
I would describe myself as left-libertarian. Since that’s not an option on your poll, the closest thing that I would consider myself is slightly conservative. However, I have a feeling that most conservatives would consider me at least slightly liberal.
@Inspectorgrampy5 - Yea….I am a definately a 3 (and a bad liar….hey I ain’t conservative
More than slightly conservative, but not quite extreme.
The fact that these labels not only exist, but that people attempt to use them to generalize something as broad and complicated as someone’s world view is proof humanity’s damnation utter incompetence and their lust for oversimplicity.
Slightly liberal…I am not as liberal as I want to be…can’t afford to be…I need my job.
@DJ_GiNSU - Lighten up…life is short and full of pain and misery and brief moments of Happiness.
3. Extremely Liberal.
More conservative when it comes to economics. Extremely liberal about most social issues.
So a libertarian?
More or less Slightly Conservative.
Slightly conservative, but I’m registered as independent because when I first turned 18 and knew nothing about politics I thought independent meant no party. Then, found out no party affiliation was checking no box haha. My views vary a lot especially when concerning things like abortion and legalizing marijuana, but for the most part I’d say I’m conservative especially when it comes to taxes.
Umm I am not sure what I am. I dont trust any of them.
Definitely a 4
Extremely conservative, but not Republican.
Conservative. But I’m hardly ever on your blog. Hah.
Mix of 2 and 3. I know I’m not allowed to say that (bossy little bastard aren’t ya?), but in some things I’m fairly conservative and in others I’m crazy liberal.
liberal republican. pro choice, pro gay marriage, all that good stuff but with traditional republican beleifs on governement.
is an extermely libber!
extremely liberal.
Slightly liberal.
Socially, I’d say that I’m more ‘libertarian’ which could be perceived as ‘conservative’ or ‘right-wing’, but nowadays it’s believed to be moreso ’liberal’.
Financially, I’m Cognitive Dissonant cuz I don’t understand a damn thing about money and corporations.
Haha, this is so stupid. “You can’t be the middle”.
Way to skew results there.
Libertarian.
A little conservative and a little liberal. The best of both
Slightly Liberal. That’s why my beliefs and outlook conflict with the bible even though im a believer.
Defense spending, gun rights: #1
Taxation, health care, and business-related concerns: #2
Gay marriage, marijuana legalization, abortion rights, religion in politics: #4
moderate liberal
Slightly Conservative… Open to freedoms & rights, as long as that being expressed makes a bit of sense.
extremely conservative.
I guess I’m closest to 3.
I’m going to say *begin epic deep announcers voice* XTREME *end epic deep announcers voice* liberal. I think I’m probably not an extremist and i’m more in moderately liberal, but definitely more than slightly. Always round up??
THU-reeeee!!! (Unless that offends someone.
)
There’s only one option left.
Ha!
Political parties are the slightly more mature version of schoolyard name-calling, and only exist so that uneducated people don’t have to think too hard about what politician they want stealing from them.
Extremely Conservative.
More conservative, but that’s no secret.
Extremely liberal. Like I think US Democrats are right wing conservatives.
I’m all about small government, and little to no big government intervention. I’m financially conservative. Social issues, I’m extremely liberal. To each their own type really. Most say political party wise that I’m a Libertarian.
So…none and all of the above.
between 3 and 4…depending on my mood xP
3.5
Conservative. More than slightly but less than extremely… It’s not called the “political spectrum” for nothing.
more than slightly conservative but less than extremely conservative
2 1/2
slightly liberal but actually moderate
Libertarian.
@RainDropPixie - This.
slightly liberal
theade nead to put me in cheard of the U S A the counter will be in beat shape thead it is now
Extremely liberal. Like normal people. Except normal people aren’t extreme with anything. So let’s just go with liberal.
1. Extremely conservative.
I do believe that most of the comments on here are liberal. I have no clue why someone would claim your comments come from those who are conservative – I’ve never felt that way here. It seems this poll only reflects my feelings.
Slightly liberal!
It is viewed as trendy to confidential beads for pandora charms, especially if you actually are within United Kingdom. for just about any amount of many years now, Pandora jewellery charms are supported and loved by jewellery purchasers merely since it mentioned to turn into extra exclusive if your jewellery is produced up of Pandora charms.
I think I’m number 2. I want tax reforms. Less government. Same rights for everyone. Not extra for some.
I’m in the middle. What do you think about that huh Dan? And I see Xiao above me is a communist
extremely conservative
She will be amazed beyond belief and the feeling of happiness on her face when she gets those Vacheron Constantin watches will amaze you. It is a known fact that the rich and the famous all love to wear expensive brands of watches. Most people really want to wear these Breitling watches.
whatever carly fiorina is. when I saw her tv campaign commercials, I immediately liked her
lol
1-2, Conservative Independent.
3. extremely liberal.
as in a socialist with communist tendencies.
Slightly to extremely conservative.
Slightly liberal I guess.
I think I’m a fiscal conservative but a social liberal. All for reducing government spending but I am a strong advocate for equal rights and separation of church and state.
2
If you’re talking about gun rights I’d say I’m extremely conservative. If you are talking about social programs I’d say I’m slightly liberal. I’m extremely conservative when it comes to McDonald’s.
I’m a centrist liberterian. Not sure how that fits. Probably between 1 and 2
Some days I’m extremely liberal… but on the days where a conservative hasn’t pissed me off yet, I’m slightly liberal.
Slightly liberal. I find extremists on both sides annoying, but I sympathize a bit more with the liberal side most of the time.
Hermes are considered as a perfect blend of aestheticism and royalty. If the price of a basic version is also beyond your affordable range, you can choose a vintage look one from private sellers or re-sellers. We should know that Herms do not sell to other retailers.
3 for sure
I find your American political system too confusing to make a decision on the question.
Slightly Liberal!
4; slightly liberal.
2 for me.
Slightly conservative.
By Quebec standards… slightly conservative. By Canadian standards… slightly liberal. By American standards… extremely liberal. And dictatorships would just paint a red ‘X’ over my picture.
Left of Loborn; Right of Attila.
When did you say you were leaving xanga again? I will throw you an awesome going away party!!!
Slightly liberal.
4
I’m extremely conservative.
Extremely liberal.
You know in order to do the Math for this you need to not just know how many people fall into each category but also how MUCH they comment. So if you multiply like the number of conservatives times the average number of comments made by conservatives on a given day and compare that to the same for liberals, then you can answer whether most comments on your blog are written by conservatives or liberals.
A better analysis would even be to compare the number of characters or words written, because there can be liberals or conservatives who are very wordy (like me) and take up a lot of text space on the blog that can result in creating the impression that the blog discussion space has more of a conservative or liberal feel to it.
Even better still is if you have a rating system to determine how conservative or liberal particular comments are. Because it could be possible that a blog could be populated by a majority of silent liberals who don’t express their political opinions very often but do comment frequently in a very banal and uninteresting way or vice versa. Again, if one side or the other of the intellectual spectrum comments more frequently with ideologically slanted comments it could give the impression of a regular person passing by that a blog’s comment section is more dominated by liberal or conservative ideology.
All this is just to say that asking people to comment and specify how liberal or conservative they are is only the beginning of a good analysis.
Still, it’s certainly interesting to see and heartening to me to find that there are so many liberals who chose to comment here and proudly state that they are liberal.
3. Especially socially.
Probably more like a 1.5.
Extremely liberal. (I would say moderate liberal, because I’m not really slightly, or extreme…but if I had to choose…)
dont care…
none of the above.
Extremely liberal.
