  • Fighting

I want to make a point with this but I am curious if men have been in a real fight more than women.

By fight, I mean actual punching.

Have you ever been in a fist fight?

  • When I was a kid, at least once a week or so, with my little brother. :)

  • I haven’t (yet) been in a proper fist fight,  but I have definitely been in quite a few verbal arguments, some which ended up with a bit of shoving & pushing, but didn’t escalate to anything more.

    xo’

  • all the time when I was a bouncer

  • Nope, just verbal arguments.

  • Yeah. Only once with another girl though (in the 4th grade), a buncha times with men.

  • Female fight.. I got a black eye too. Job related.. It came with the territory.

  • Shoving matches, yes, when my brothers and I were dumb kids. But never with actual punches thrown.

  • Never. I’m a lover, not a fighter.

Okay, I’m just a big chicken who doesn’t like pain.

  • I fought a guy once.

  • I was once. It was self-defense. The guy involved hit me with a pylon first. I had to fight back.

No hits to the face, but good God was I bruised.

It was not a fun experience.

  • I jumped in to break up a grrrlll fight that took place right outside my classroom. I took a hard right, right between the eyes.

When the vice principal arrived he asked me what I saw I replied,

    “Blue sky and stars.”

  • I don’t fight unless it involves nudity. And then, only wrestling.

  • Haha, 3 fist fights in 3rd grade to the point of bloodying their noses. And…. every. single. blessed. day. after school in 5th grade. Two guys (Pat N. and Chris K) vs. me.

This may be the reason I find it difficult to contribute any real emotions toward the amateur antics provided by the sheltered “New Atheist” children here on Xanga.

  • Yeah. I’ve been in many fist fights with my half-brother, when we were younger.

  • nope. my dad always told me though that if i thought it was gonna happen to hit first and hit hard because the first punch is the most important. so i’m keeping that in mind in case someone ever deserves to be punched.

  • I was in one mild fight where a few punches were thrown. I was about 10 years old.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - Do you ever record these fights?

  • I have been beat up by a 15 year old kid.

But I never had a fist fights with anyone else. Then again, I think I might have before….  If considering flying fists count?

  • I have literally lost count.

  • several times as a child. never as a teenager or as an adult.

  • Nope…my bigger, but younger, brother used to beat up on me sometimes, but just kid stuff.  I don’t think I ever hit back.

  • Not unless sibling fights count.  Once I twisted my sister’s ankle, but it was a total accident, not a fight.

  • Yes. And I’m not proud of it. I was a teenager whose parents had recently divorced… my father quickly re-married and I had a step-brother. Who I concussed with the most angry punch I’ve ever thrown to his temple. We were the same age, in the same class, at the same school. And we have the same first name. It was a difficult time for me. He did start it… but, I ended it with one punch. Not my proudest moment.

  • Once. Fourth grade on the school bus. Fifth grade girl kept picking on me about my uncool hand-me-downs and pushed me on the bus. So I wailed on her. Only fight ever.

  • I’m the most tame person ever, I try to avoid confrontation at all costs.

  • I punched a guy once who badmouthed a friend of mine, not a highlight and I felt bad. Upon apologising to him for it … well lets just say it was worth the sore hand. That was the only time… I’m a lover not a fighter.

  • Does slamming someone’s head into a locker so hard it required 42 stitches count?  I mean, she’s the one who started it.  Plus she had about 50 pounds on me.

  • There was once a time I fought a guy. He swung and I picked up a metal folding chair.

…I won and then he got his ass kicked by about 10 men.

  • It’s happened.

  • @AlluringAddiction - You should join the WWE!

  • @ItIsAllGravy - Never! It was my only option. My fists wouldn’t have done shit. I’m too small to hurt a man. UNLESS — I give ‘em a nut shot ;]

  • I was once, kinda. (I’m a guy). It wasn’t an angry fight, but one day my friend and I realized that neither of us had been in a proper fight before, so we decided to duke it out. After we traded a couple we decided that it really wasn’t all that fun.

  • Nope. God knows I would get myself killed.

  • Twice. Both guys.

    1 wins, 1 ties, 0 losses.

  • I have once. but it was more like me just getting killed.

  • Nope.  Play-wrestled my brother and came close to breaking his neck once.  Not much in the line of actual punches though.

  • Yes, many times but none of them recently. I outgrew the fist fighting in my late teens and finally learned to settle things in more peaceful ways.

  • The only reason that I bought a class ring was so that it would hurt more when I punched people

  • Yep.  Once as a kid I got punched in the mouth and a tooth fell out.  But I didn’t hit back that I remember.  I think I ran, but it was a girl who hit me.

One time I won a bar fight but the guy was punching me!  I kinda warned him to stop and then shoved his face into the dirt floor/ground (I was in the Navy, it was Puerto Rico, the bar had no floor just four walls and a roof).  We all decided I won.  :)

  • Not so much as punching, but I used to be a bully as a little child, shoving other kids around. I’m glad that behaviour stopped when I reached my teenage years.

  • Yes. I’ve been in a lot of fights.  Being punched hurts.  It is not glamorous or glorious.  Winning a fight on the other hand is a completely different matter.

  • Unless pushing & shoving in elementary school counts, then no.

  • I was a brawler back in elementary school.

  • during my teenage years yes, but only because i was gang affiliated… when you fight, there’s this sick feeling you get inside telling you

    its wrong to hurt others…..

  • i’ve been in a few fights
    broke a girls nose once

  • With a few kids in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. My father and I exchanged blows in high school. He tried hitting me with a wooden bat. I knocked most of his teeth out–I still regret it to this day. Had a few fights in a “fight club” during high school. I pushed someone down hard enough to stun them for a while during college. Now, I spar a lot, but I don’t really count that as fighting. Except for the ones in grade school, I never threw the first punch.

  • I have a few times with my sister when we were growing up. There was biting, scratching, slapping, punching, pulling of hair. They got pretty brutal up until we were both in our teens haha. Now we just get in really brutal verbal fights when we do fight which is not nearly as much as it once was.

  • never a real fight. outside of martial arts training, the closest i came to a fight was kneeing a kid in the stomach when i was 15. he had about 50 pounds on me and i dropped him like a fly. i remember he was running towards me while i had my back turned and was walking away (because i hate fighting) after our intense shouting match. i turned around sidestepped and my knee met his gut and he dropped to the ground and didnt come back up for several minutes. but by that time i was home. nothing since lol. i’m a lover. most definitely not a fighter. but i can defend myself very well, being a blackbelt.

  • A kid punched me a bunch of times because I opened his locker, but it was in my chest and he was kinda weak so I just stood there and then walked away, but that’s the worst that ever happened.

  • Yeah I have been once with my husband I did not intend to fight but I was like forced to do it!! :( (

  • how is theo a blogger? How is thirty six words a blog post?

  • never have. I was too conceited when I was in school to fight other girls because they were a waste of my energy ignoring them as if they didn’t exist made them more mad than actually fighting them.

  • Yes, with guys and girls in high school.

  • I’ve never had a reason to get into a fight. The best fights are the ones avoided. I’d fight if diplomacy fails though.

  • Not a real one no. The only “fight” I ever got into consisted of more pushing than actual hitting.

Unless you count sparring in Tae Kwon Do, but considering the amount of protective gear we were wearing I’d say not.

  • No, never a real fight. I slapped a couple guys in 7th grade for talking trash about my friends in front of me, but nobody ever wanted to fight me, haha. I was 5’2” and about 90 lbs. I think they were afraid they’d break me in half!
I’m glad I’ve never been in a fist fight. It looks brutal.

  • @Kiwigummy - Yes. Its how I got people to stop picking on me.

  • Not lately, but multiple times in the past.

  • @Roadlesstaken - I’m trying really hard to picture that…

  • Traded licks in the face with my best friend. We were mad, but we pulled our punches. No damage done, really.

  • Actually, I have.. but always with my brother. I remember a time when I grabbed onto his head and slammed it on the kitchen floor a couple times. He got back up, gave me the craziest evil eye I’ve seen in my life, and charged at me like I was a red cloth and he was one fucking angry bull.
..Now him and I get along like besties :)

  • Nope. I can honestly say I get along with everyone and I’m usually the peace maker… or I just hide while everyone was in the fights back in high school. I have better things to do than that.

  • my sister is the only person i throw actual angry punches at. but if anyone ever provoked me as much as she did, i would punch them out too.

  • Nothing besides sparring. I try not to get into physical scuffles with people. The closest I got was when I got punched in 8th grade, and we were quickly broken up.

  • @airbornerose - Oh yes, I was to be feared.

  • Yeah, haha. Lots.

  • Only once when I was being attacked. I was punching and screaming and biting. I think that counts.

  • Never had to, wouldn’t want to, but if I did have to, then I do know how to throw a quick, clean, hard punch to the face that should serve me well enough. I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of it.

    Thank you Karate.

  • I used to get into fights all the time. All were protecting some one. Then I was a bartender and had my share. Last “Fist Fight” was three years ago.

  • Only once it was at a Blag Flag concert twenty years ago…I had to fight my way through the Mosh Pit because a friend was stuck in the middle and all the other bouncers had to get him out…but my diplomatic abilities with my mouth were prettty good and I was gifted as a negotiator for peace whenever fights broke out in the clubs in New York that I worked in. One fight in three years is not a bad record. Considering it was a pre HIV Manhattan I worked in and those were pretty heady days and lots of fun.

  • No.  Some girl tried to get in a fist fight with me in 6th grade, but I knew that if I hit her, we’d both get in trouble even though she started it (not to mention, she had been bullying me all semester, so I wanted HER to be the one getting in trouble, not me.)  So she’s there swinging punches at me, and I was swinging my jacket in her face to defend myself.  It worked.  She didn’t get a punch in, and I didn’t get in trouble.

  • From birth to Gr.8, but i have become a pacifist since.

  • Of course. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do when you wear a wife-beater?

  • beads for pandora , between the very best names inside the jewellery world, has this choice using the many Pandora beads and charms readily available to buy. A charm bracelet can be an superb present for someone, no make any difference whether they are good friend or family people or both.

  • Got into a few fights as a child, regreted every one of them.  As a teen and adult, just 1 fight against my brother but he was intoxicated and had to be subdued (I wouldn’t call that a fight per se).  I use to spar when I did martial arts, does that count?

  • Nope.  Well, probably yes, with a boyfriend.  I think that’s a separate category.  Was slapped in the face by my mom once.  Had to push/kick her away once too.  And numbers of matches of who knows what with my little brother….

  • Many times.

It was a mix of juveniles (myself included) thinking we were tough.

  • Most definitely.  Back in Jr. High, because of where I went to school, if you were male you could not go through that school without being in a few fights… unless you just let yourself get beat down.  It was in a rather rough part of town and had a barbed wire fence around it just to keep people out when I attended there.  I mostly kept to myself in those days and stayed below most peoples’ radar but, as I said, no male could get out without a fight.

  • I’ve never been in a fistfight in my life. I’ve always used words to avoid conflict.

  • I’m from the trailer park…of course.
