  • Too Thin for Victoria’s Secret

It appears that once again we are seeing discrimination against thin people.

It has been said that Candice Swanepoel runs the risk of being dropped as a Victoria’s Secret model because she is looking too thin.  (She is the woman in the middle of the above photo).

The women are expected to be “healthy and muscular.”  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think Candice is too thin?

  • I don’t know.  They won’t let me in Victoria’s Secret again for some raisin.

  • I try very hard to avoid making judgements about peoples weight. I think there’s room in this world for people of all sizes.

  • My pinky is thicker than her.

  • I see these pictures, and I see my daughter.  And well, no, she’s not too skinny.  A little meat on her bones wouldn’t hurt.  Maybe a steroid shot or three.  And maybe a pimple in the middle of her forehead (for the benefit of us fluffiliciously blessed ones).

    Aye..

Discrimination.  Ha.  I do believe this issue is the least of this dear’s worries.

  • I think she’s fine just like she is.

  • Maybe it’s just a bad picture :D

  • it’s not discrimination against thin women if she’s not naturally that thin aka it’s the result of unhealthy eating habits.   looking at her older pictures I’d say that’s a possibility, and I’d be willing to bet VS knows her former and current weight

  • I think shes looks amazing and beautiful. She looks happy and healthy. Its her body. And personally, I think, some of the girls in VS are a little too chunky, they should take lessons from her.

  • Doesn’t VS have a 19.0 BMI lower limit? I think they need to enforce their standards, and this is one of those times.

  • All three could stand to gain a few lbs.

  • @BrokenGlassBrokenTears - Surely you must be joking.

And to each their own, but I think she’d look a bit better with some meat on her bones.

  • yeah she could definitely sand to gain a few pounds. I was looking at her stomach, but then i saw her arms…. yikes

  • I think all the women there are too thin. I buy victorias secret bras…but I’d prefer if the women in the pictures actually wore common sizes. I mean…throw out someone in a 38C, or a 36B. Let’s be realistic here…how common is a 30DD? (Which is probably what several v.s. models are.)

  • For VS she is a bit too petite. It’s not discrimination, it’s just how they like their models. Sexy isn’t bones. And VS is all about sexy.

  • I think a doctor’s examination would give a definitive answer. My glance tells me “too thin.”

  • Are they upset that they can’t photoshop her too look any thinner or something? Lol. Without it being unrealistic. Because I’ve never seen a real thick bodied healthy curvy VS model. With hips & an ass. Not saying fat, but thick. Edit: VS models do have curves but not the same as I’m referring to. I’d be nice to see more of a variety. They don’t embody ‘real woman’ nor do they even carry sizes for woman with larger breast. (I’ve never found anything above DD) Which is disappointing.

  • I’m not a doctor but I play one in the bedroom sometimes, so in my semi-pro opinion… yes. For the love of God, EAT SOMETHING! Women THAT thin are not attractive to me anyway… so, based on the Me Poll, Victoria’s Secret should drop her. Isn’t Oprah recently unemployed?

  • Boys and girls, we have on our hands a true thinspiration.

  • wow so skinny o_O.

the other victorias secret models are skinny, but i think they’re more healthy-skinny. but then again, i don’t really pay attention to them so i guess i wouldn’t really know.

  • She doesn’t look sickly to me… I look like that and I’m healthy. But I won’t whine if Victoria’s Secret doesn’t want me. I know that to be truly sexy, you should have some nice curves on you. Boobs and a butt. She could stand to gain and a few pounds and so could I.

  • I think my calf is bigger than her waist

  • @MySpiceOfLife - i agree with you, all three should gain just a bit more

  • Heroin chic went out in the 90s. Gain some weight.

  • elbow bigger than upper arm… maybe…

  • I don’t think she looks bad. Yeah, she’s thin, and she’s lost some weight when she still looked beautiful at her former weight, but I don’t think it’s to the point where everyone has to freak out that she’s getting too thin.

She doesn’t look sick or anything, she’s still fairly attractive, though she is thinner now than she was then.

  • no. she looks good (: (:

  • I have to be honest and say yeah, she is definitely too thin for my tastes. In fact I would encourage all of them to start chomping on some hamburgers. And don’t get me wrong, I would offer the opposite advice to overweight people – I’m no hypocrite!

  • I hope they have padded chairs to sit on because they don’t have padding anywhere else.  A friend of mine is that thin and cannot sit on a wooden bench or chair without the bone, skin, wood getting painful.

  • the pic is photoshopped anyway so who knows.

  • I think she has a thin, very toned and tight little sexy body, but I’m biased because I’m partial to thin people since I’m similarly thin and don’t find plump bodies appealing on women or men, and some people could be more toned:p different preferences for different people

  • What the… When you’re too fat, you’re being discrimated. Now that she’s thin, she also have to go through this discrimination. What’s wrong? I see that she’s perfectly great! I would have to have her body build.

  • Nah, stick figures turn me on.

  • Maybe she should start a career as a runway model if she’s dropped. Or try out for Hot Topic’s swim wear, just make her goth or emo, most female emo/goth models are skinny anyways. As for “healthy and muscular”, when was the last time you saw an Amazon in a VS commercial?

“And Brenda here is wearing our leopard skinned thong and top, great for hunting and the Miss Universe competition…”

  • @Texana - No it’s not. Believe it or not, people really are that beautiful in real life, no matter what feminist bloggers are trying to get us to believe.

  • I don’t know. I think she’s really pretty. But she’s a model working for Victoria’s Secret. Her body is her product. She’s not delivering the goods that Victoria’s Secret is looking for.

  • Yes, she looks too skinny.  If VS has a “too fat” rule, then they sure can have a “too thin” rule.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen an overweight VS model.

  • When comparing that to an average model, I think she’s a bit too skinny. Not discriminating, just personal opinion. Might as well have girls that have 6-packs o_o

  • She’s Five foot nine inches and weighs 108.

That’s a BMI of 15.9, and BMI is based on assuming that you are fat. So in actuality, she’s probably severely underweight. If she was 15.9 BMI and clearly not a work-out kinda girl, it would be a different story. A 15 BMI is likely that there is no menstruation, which is just ridiculously unhealthy for a grown woman. It’s not an issue of ‘beauty’ it’s an issue of health!

Seriously, I think if we saw her in person we’d understand – we’re all used to seeing ridiculously thin proportioned people via photoshop, but in real life, she’d look completely starved.

  • I don’t care.

  • @livexlovexlaughter - I agree. She’s thin, but not boney. She has a great body.

  • @GodlessLiberal -  l o l @Kiwigummy -   yea r i g h t . I think they should but probably more like 18 lower. And looks like theirs is more around 17. @Benjamin888 - lol @BlindSight22 - Me poll

    you people are funny

  • i have a naturally slim frame, so people accuse me of not eating and therefore being too thin… whatever. maybe Victoria’s Secret is not candice’s calling.

  • I don’t think she looks too thin in that photo, but if it’s from a photoshoot they’re have photoshopped out the ribs and all that to make her look healthier.

It’s not my place to say. The fashion industry isn’t something I know much about.

  • @jenessa1889 - That’s what I think too, but I can’t really place a judgement on her.

  • She did lose a bit, She looks good but another pound lost would be a bit too much. I love Chanel Iman, but why the hell is she a Victoria Secret model?! She’s skinner than Candice

  • Well, it’s impossible to tell considering there is probably tons of photo shop being done here.

  • Yes, she should be dropped. Why?  Not to discriminate.  To protect the hearts & minds of young women (and even super sensitive older ones) who will NEVER look like that yet will engage in destructive behavior in an attempt to get to that point.
I think VS & any retailer/magazine who puts people in the public eye needs to be aware of the fact that there is more than one (or even two) body types and they need to include them ALL.  I don’t mean putting one or two women who aren’t very thin on their pages – I mean give the same treatment to women of all body types.  Include equal numbers of models from every body type and don’t scantily clad the skinnier ones and then cover up the “plus sizes.”  People of all body types deserve to feel desirable and beautiful.  Even if you or I don’t find someone of a particular body type to be attractive, there is always someone who does.  So they should all be celebrated.
I feel it is only responsible for VS and anyone else in a similar position of being in the public eye to have limits like this.

  • A model that people don’t want to look at is too ‘something’.

Anyway, whether or not she is too thin is primarily a health issue, and I’m no doctor.  Doesn’t look healthy to me though.

  • Better than being too fat

  • @xFgtxRainbowx - I’m a 30DD and they barely ever carry my size at VS :(   Maybe I’m unrealistically thin with unrealistically big boobs??

  • If that’s her natural body type, then yes, she is thin.  Too thin?  Who’s to say??

  • I think they’re all too thin – but they’re also all Victoria’s Secret models, so of course they look inhumanly stunning.

  • What! They look so FAT!!! Clearly they need to lose ten more pounds! ;)

I dont like it when people tell me to gain weight anymore than when people are told to lose weight. As long as you are HEALTHY and happy thats what matters.

  • Yes because the pictures of her before had more meat on her and she looked better w/ it. If she was always this thin, then I’d say she wasn’t too skinny. I think that unless you are dangerously overweight or underweight, then you should compare yourself to yourself…for example, I’m between 110 and 115, but I’d like to be that weight in muscle. I don’t want to be 130 because even though I can go up to 130, it won’t look good on me. Heck, the slight flab of my stomach is showing because I have a small frame!!! But that’s just to prove a point–sometimes people should compare themselves to themselves.

  • BULL SHIT. She is lovely, as are all of them! Honestly, we don’t know her eating habits. She could eat 25 cheeseburgers a day. I hate discrimination against thin people, I’m only 16 years old but for a good portion of my life I have suffered from ignorant bitches who think they can tell me to eat more.

  • she looks good to me.  she’s just naturally small, she doesn’t look emaciated.

  • She looks fine. I like that they feature girls like her and Chanel. Actually, Candice is my favorite. :)

  • I think she looks ok, but she probably looked better before she lost the weight. I also think that as a company, Victoria’s Secret has every right to set standards for their employees.  Wanting a model that looks a certain way is no different from a producer making an album and wanting a guitarist that plays a certain way.  Yes, it might hurt some people’s feelings, but since a model’s job is to look pretty wearing the clothes, the company gets to decide what their idea of “pretty” is.  She might just have a fast metabolism, and, like me, has a hard time gaining weight, but it’s still up to Victoria’s Secret to decide if that is the look they want.

  • I can understand why Victoria’s Secret would make this move, for one reason. If you owned a clothing company and only showed off that your clothing only looks good on stick thin wemon, how well do you think the clothes would sell? Living in a country full of over weight people and girls who hate themselves for not being like these “perfect” wemon Victoria’s Secret knows what they have to do to relate to everyone.

  • They nit pick too much.  Leave the damn girl and her career alone.

  • definitely, but I don’t think the other women look healthy or muscular hahaha

  • @AlluringAddition - Somebody sounds a little jealous….lol

  • Too thin, not horrible too thin, but I don’t blame VS for their decision. They have the right to hire/fire whomever they please to make themselvs profittable.

  • I think that in an industry that’s all about image they’re trying to project a certain image and that’s their prerogative to do so. If you don’t like the choices that Victoria’s Secret makes, don’t buy their products. I don’t buy American Apparel because I don’t like their ads.

  • I don’t think it’s necessarily “discrimination against thin people.” There’s a difference between being thin and too think. She looks a little unhealthy because of how thin and tall she is.

  • If she is naturally thin then it’s one thing. But if she is just eating poorly or not at all, that is another. She joined that job knowing she had to maintain a certain figure, so she should be allowed to be discriminated. If I was not able to put away dishes, I’d get fired from my job. It’s how businesses work. They want to maintain a certain reputation. It is probably in her contract, so she better get thicker if she wants to keep her job.

  • yes too thin for victoria secret

  • honestly all the vs models are supermodel skinny. i don’t think any of them are curvy with realistic body types that women who are not supermodels have. however they do look utterly amazing. i really don’t.care to be skinny i care more about having a nice body.

  • @AlluringAddition - Um…fuck off.

I don’t even know her, but hop off her already. Stop being so obsessed and live your damn life without being a nuisance to someone you’ll never meet.

  • She definitely looks too thin in that pic, although I saw another one that was even worse. The way she’s posing doesn’t help. There comes a point when thinness stops being desirable and becomes uncomfortable to look at. To me, she’s crossed that line.

  • When I compare these three gals, not just the center one, against the beauty and shape of my wife, they all come in second place.

  • i dont think she is to skinny at all. she is freaking tall people of course she will look super skinny being so tall. she works out a lot to look hella good. and she does look really good. so no judgement here.

  • She does look too thin.  I don’t think it’s discrimination.  When I was too thin I was in poor health.  It took a few years to diagnose the problem (the doctors thought it was anorexia, or irritable bowel, but it was celiac disease).  When your BMI is too low your health is at risk.  Some people are genetically thin, but if they are too thin – there is a problem!

  • She’s too thin.  She looks unhealthy.  I was unhealthy when I was too thin.  The doctors chalked it up to anorexia or irritable bowel.  It was celiac disease.  I follow a strict diet and VOILA – healthy BMI!  People want to cry discrimination at the drop of a hat.  “People HATE the thin people!”

This is simple:  an abnormally low BMI is unhealthy.  Unhealthy doesn’t sell lingerie.  Unhealthy looks bad.

  • Hello.  How are you guys doing?  So, today’s topic is for females.  Hahaha, oh well, I always did have a feminine side to me ( I love sailormoon).  Ok, um, let’s see… uh…  Candy Swan, did she change her name to a sugar substance beautiful bird, or was she born with that name?  I’m considering naming my daughter (if ever have one)  Lolipop Melondinsky, hahahahhaha!!!!

  • Yes, that woman is TOO thin. Victoria’s Secret models are beautiful because they are toned and fit. Not because they are pale and sickly looking. She probably needs professional help and not so much media attention.

  • Hope You Are Happy Dress Up
Make all people happy after looking your style. Lets dress up.

  • WAY too thin!!  Look at her arms for heavens sake – poor Karen Carpenter looked heftier than she does!

  • Yes…she is definetly unhealthy weight wise…She should go out and a nice fattening hamburger and fries washed down by a delicious milk shake of her favorite non-fat free ice cream…enjoy for once before she dies ala Karen Carpenter or supermodel Gia Carangi…we live in  a sick culture that is so fascinated wih turning a quick buck that we have forgotten all about the important things in life…like Death and work. Our world is much more evil and twisted than worlds were our ancestors lived in. And much more cold hearted. What she needs to learn is that modeling does not give two shits about her health as long as their making mega bucks off of her. She will unfortunetly realize this when she becomes severely ill and they refuse to pay for her health insurance and they dump her immediately instead just the like cold hearted hypocrites did too Gia Carangi…the world’s first Supermodel to die from AIDS at the age of 28 or 29. And she was welfare when she died. Because the moral degenerates and child killers that control the modeling industry refused to pay for any part of her health care even though she was making $10,000 a day for herself and millions a day for the people she worked for. And the moment her illness started to show she was thrown away like she was apiece of human garbage and she was thrown by people that supposedly cared for her and lovd her and a large percentage of them were homosexuals and lesbians. (She was a lesbian). And she was also “The One” that she paved the way for Cindy Crawford who has never acknowledged his in public even she knows that without Gia….her and most other Supermodels would not be making anywhere near the money the money they get today. This model needs to be made aware of this and if she knows already then shame her for making the wrong decision and having screwed up priorities. She and her colleagues need o read a book called “Thing a Beauty: The Gia Carangi Story by Stephen Brielle is an excellent expose on what New York City and its modeling industry was like circa late 1970s and early 1980s and probably still is. And describes beautiful young women (most of them were barely out of their teens) and eats them alive. Starting with taking them out of high school early so that they become to well educated like Elle MacPherson is.

OH an she was also for a brief  while known to the most of the fashion world (which counted in the millions of people) on a one name basis itwas simply it was simply “Gia” and this was long before “Madonna” and long after “Elvis” so she was only the second known person to have attained that level of fame and or maybe the top five if you include “Marilyn”…”The Mick” or possibly “JFK” or “RFK”. And that is about it except for maybe “Buddy” (Buddy Holly) and of course John…Paul….George and Ringo. And she did it by the time she was 25. Which ended being unfortunate for her and most of the people I just mentioned.

  • Since replica source watches has become one of the most desirable brands in spite of its sky-rocket price, the availability of a Rolex replica has rejected the demand even further. In spite of ethical considerations of wearing a fake watch, Rolex replica items have been in great demand since the start of the industry.

  • *shrugs* It’s not discrimination, it’s a company who wants a certain look. Every businesses has standards. There are modeling agencies for all body sizes. I just don’t condone agencies pressuring people to the point of eating disorders.

  • She’s skinny, but she doesn’t look unhealthy.

  • You may be surprised to know that a lot of famous luxury watches aficionados feel that a hand-wound calibre provides a more tactile pleasure. There is definitely something to be said for rediscovering the fine art of old-fashioned watchmaking. You will like the Cellinium watches if you have an affinity for a minimalist, unadorned design.

  • I think she’s fine the way she is. Maybe a little weight gain, but then again they’re people like me who find it hard to gain. Atleast she isn’t a fat slob.

  • We will help you get your hands on authentic pre-owned replica Louis Vuiton , wallets and purses. Two interior plat pockets and one zipper pocket are designed for the phone, business card, keys ect. It can be hand-held with comfortable rounded leather handles.

  • she;s on the verge of looking unhealthy. i think someone should look healthy. skinny or fat.

  • @ANVRSADDAY - Aww, sweet!

@xxSHhHxxBExxQUiETxx - Hey, what did ‘AlluringAddition’ say? I got a notification in my Feedback thing but the comment is not here lol!

  • @SonoranWanderer - I know, same here, I just figured they left us the same comment they left the other people up there. xD The link to a fake Twitter account for Summer Rae. *eyeroll* This ‘AlluringAddition’ person has no life, seriously, if they’re making Twitter accounts and Xanga accounts trashing her. *shakes head*

  • beauty is in the eye of the beholder…. VS does have a target audience. Also, in the modeling industry, the reaon all models are around the same size is so the designer doesn’t have to make 4 or 5 versions of the same outfit just to make sure the model who wears it will fit. It’s conveince’s sake.

This reminds me of this murder case that was re-evaluated because the suspect was picked out of a page of mugshots in which all the men but one was on a striped background. The other man was photographed against a white background and studies show that a person is more likely to pick out a “familiar” looking person if something small like that sticks out in their photo. Maybe VS doesn’t want one model who looks a bit different.

I personally think she’s too thin, but then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And I’m jealous of her body, so that has a lot to do with it.

  • lol at the model and brownie ads on the side.. but seriously, all three of them are too skinny. and yes, i agree that vs is supposed to be all about sexy! sexy = beautiful, empowering female curves everywhere – not just slight boobs and barely bottom..

  • she looks way too thin to me

  • She’s not too thin at all, she’s perfect for VS.

  • I don’t think she is too thin, and neither do a lot of people (girls), but she’s a good example of thinspiration.

If you don’t know what thinspiration is, you might be lucky enough to have a healthy relationship with your body.

  • She lost too much weight, that’s the problem. She was a bit thicker before.

  • @BrokenGlassBrokenTears - You’re one to talk! But then again you’re just another typical teenager girl with a fake eating disorder posting lame “thinspo” on your page, so it makes sense that you would call a VS model chunky. Oh btw, burning 4 calories from brushing your teeth wont really help much when trying to lose weight lol but have fun trying.

  • I think it’s so lame that the media are always making such a big deal about how skinny or fat girls are. People are always saying that models are too thin, and therefore setting a bad example for children/teenagers. Otherwise, they’re doing it the other way; people are too fat.

She looks gorgeous and healthy and mainly … happy. The society we live in has to stop being so uptight on image. If you’re happy, that should be all that counts.

  • She could definitely stand to gain some weight in my opinion. But she doesn’t look unhealthy…

But man, there is no pleasing as a model is there?

  • all work outs and physiques are held accounted by their diets, she must have a strong nutritional meals with fiber protein and certain fats to keep that lean and sexy or else she’d look like a skeleton.
