  • Do You Get Second Looks?

I have been working out at the gym and I noticed some women work out in these tight black pants.

It is funny because I work out with the weights and every time a woman walks in that section, every single guy looks at her as she passes.  There is rarely an exception to this as long as the woman it at least somewhat attractive.  But if she is as thin as the woman in the photo and wearing the short tight pants, every single guy looks.

I decided to do my own little test and see if women look too.  I walked past the women who were on the bicycles and not one woman looked at me.  They all kept watching the TV overhead.  I did not get too offended because I assume most of the women are just lesbian.

Are you the type of person that tends to get second looks?

  • Absolutely. I get “WTF” looks all the time.

  • Only if I’m wearing a low-cut shirt. haha

  • No because I look mad all the time.

  • LOL they MUST be lesbian, I agree.:)  At the gym, I think it’s in the air or something because yeah I feel kind of uncomfortable in the weight room because of that.

  • No. South Florida is full of super hot girls, why would they spend time looking at me?

  • I got a few today! Apparently I am, it’s cool when you catch that look in a woman’s eye. You know the one.
And when they know you caught them looking. I find it cute when they look away quickly. Irresistible when they then make eye contact and non-verbally communicate, “fuck me.”
    Excuse the language.

  • At the gym? Always, because of the reasons you explained above

  • I don’t notice. But according to my husband I get a lot looks.. he says it’s usually older men (30+).

  • Both sexes love staring at me. I accept.

  • “I did not get too offended because I assume most of the women are just lesbian.” AHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I didn’t used to think so… but now I often catch the SO glaring in a random direction, and when I look over, the dude he’s glaring at is looking at me. LOLMyself, I only notice when other girls are looking (and normally glaring) at me. It’s hilarious.

  • I’m the type of person that tends not to get first looks.

  • Yeah.  Especially while I’m on the elliptical.  There’s mirrors everywhere so I notice when I get second looks.

  • “I did not get too offended because I assume most of the women are just lesbian.” LOLOLOL I am actually cracking up…You deserve third, fourth – even fifth looks.

If a guy was hot and wearing those pants, I wouldn’t necessarily avert my gaze…

  • At the gym? HAAHAHA no. First of all, I don’t work out. Second of all, no one wants to see a fat girl in short shorts.

However, yeah I get looks, from both girls and guys. fuck yeah. I even get honks and winked at. ;D

  • when i don’t giggle like high school girls! but giggling so addictive!

  • That’ll be the day

  • As a sixteen year old (way back when), and trying to make myself feel better, I convinced myself they gave me double looks… Looking back on it, half were, half weren’t. I don’t really pay attention any more, mostly because I only care if my boyfriend looks. =)  I still don’t think myself that great looking, but my boyfriend and friends think I’m gorgeous. So yeah, I guess I get second looks… but not at the gym.

  • I don’t really pay attention, but probably not because i almost always have one or both kids with me. If I see a good looking guy then I’ll look.

  • @carolinavenger - DAMMIT! You beat me to it….

    Well played laddie, well played..

  • Well there’s one more reason to be afraid of going to the gym. Not that anyone would want to look at me anyways…pretty sure the only looks I’d get wouldn’t be for looking good in spandex.  :/

  • only from gay men, unfortunately.

  • depends on what i’m wearing

  • In my own head I get triple-takes.

  • If I put effort into my appearance.

  • No. People forget me too.

  • Hubby says I do… I’m caught between feeling flattered and creeped out.

  • I get second looks because I’m a freak.  I usually give second looks to people who have writing on their butts.  If they didn’t want me looking then why wear clothing that has writing on the butt?

  • Lol! No, not usually. I did this one time though, with some guy that was in the car next to mine. It was weird, ’cause he was literally hanging out of his window and looking over at me. I was like, WTF?

  • I don’t know, probably since I’m not ugly.  But I try to ignore everyone at the gym, because most of them are middle-aged guys lifting weights or stupid teenagers.  Or other girls.

  • Haha…why do you think they’re all lesbians?  I definitely check out some of the men at the gym….i think women are just more subtle about how they do it!

  • No. And I stare people down when I do.

  • Ha! I wear those same shorts and some even smaller, with 2-3 sports bras. I think I get my fair share of double takes. Too much clothes restricts movement especially in aerobics classes. I have a funny story for you about my sis wearing those shorts. Lol http://livexlovexlaughter.xanga.com/737489465/what-is-that-oops/

  • LOL they must be lesbian xD.

and i don’t know, I don’t really notice. If i do get second looks, it’s probably because I’m doing something uber stupid xp.

  • When I’m dressed to the ‘nines’ I do….

  • I don’t go to the gym. I just walk around aimlessly with a Batman backpack with a cape. I think people look twice because of the cape, to be honest.

  • *sigh* when i was younger and thinner and didn’t have a child and husband attached to me, yes. now, not so much. :(

  • @skylar_rose - that is AWESOME.

me and my friend walked around walmart with Mario and Luigi hats once.

  • I did until about five years ago.  I think being 55 had something to do with it, or maybe just my excess baggage started to show more.

  • @MangoWOW - I would look at you, mademoiselle. Vous etes un e fox. AWOOOO!

  • I get dirty looks and pursed lips all the time when I get caught staring. Probably because my aura screams sex.and blood, violence.

  • Not now that I have a huge prego belly lol Prior to getting pregnant, I did sometimes but I’d only notice if I was sitting down and looking around otherwise I’d never really notice.

  • I don’t make eye contact w/ men in the gym so I don’t know.

I guess that sounds weird but when I was younger I found that if I made eye contact with most guys out in public, the looks on their faces would change. I realize this sounds terrible but it’s true.
It must look like I’m a snob, but I bet other women do the same thing.

  • Yes I do, second looks and hardcore stares. Don’t know why. I highly doubt it’s my looks. Might be my hair but people will literally STARE. And I get that “group of people far away, 1 stares then looks back to the group then they ALL stare” a lot.

It bugs me. Sets my anxiety off :

  • I wear black yoga pants to work out but I usually wear shorts on top of them to deter the staring. I’m there to workout, not be meat. That being said, I wouldn’t know if I was getting glances or not if they’re looking at me as I pass them. Sometimes I’ll look back and see someone look away but generally I don’t pay too much attention.

  • I’ve never noticed. Experiment, here we go! Ha. I don’t usually pay attention to others at the gym.

  • BAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I love the way you ever so nonchalantly said, “I assume most of the women are just lesbian.” Hahaha!!

  • Right.. And I bet ALL women think you like it up your ass. Way to judge, dummy.

  • Yep ,I get third and fourth looks too, just depends what kind of looks you are talking about, fat people get mostly disgusted looks.

  • People do a double-take when I walk by because they’re trying to figure out if I’m a boy or a girl. epiclulz

  • You were wearing those little black shorts for your test?  What was on the TV?  If it was say, CSPAN, you should spend less time admiring the scenery and more time actually lifting weights.

  • No but once or twice I did have dirty looks should have said something but could have got dismissed from the course I was on.

  • Recently, no.  Mainly because I wear lots of conservative clothing like turtle necks. But, I used to get some second look when I wear a tight tank top during the summer time.  It’s weird, I’m contradicting myself.  I want to feel attractive and knowing that I can have any guy that I wanted.  However, I feel uncomfortable doing so, using my body getting not so good attention from guys.  So, I try to steer away from that by doing the opposite which, is acting shy and wearing conservative clothing.  Either way, it’s not working for me.  I need to find a happy middle.  Does anyone knows how to dress attractive but, not slutty?

  • Well were you wearing those shorts?

  • I get leered at by old men when I go to the gym, despite wearing loose, knee-length shorts and a reasonably baggy polo shirt that doesn’t even show any cleavage whatsoever. Probably because I was pretty much the only girl who ever went to that gym. And now I know why.

  • I dont go at the gym, to expensive for me. And to much people also… My gym for free, is the forrest! But hell yes, i take a look when a sexy man pas my way. Why not? I could not looking something away… ;)

  • I pretend that I get second looks.  It makes life more interesting and helps keep me delusionally confident.

  • I don’t get second looks. I don’t even think I get one look. Most people’s eyes seem to just pass over me as if I’m part of the wall I think I’m just one of “those” people.

  • since some women are scared of the dreaded panty lines showing, then they’ll wear a thong with those tight pants, so the guys are likely checking out her sexy wedgie and hopefully matching perky buttcheeks and not flabby blubberness. oh and if she has a camel toe(Y) other women will cringe when they see this fashion faux pas, but straight men will not complain. if you were also wearing spandex yoga pants/shorts, then I wouldn’t look because I’d burst out laughing at the peter pan tights:D and that would disrupt my workout I workout at home. I get second looks when I’m wearing my skinny jeans, but I wore them for the purpose of attracting attention, so go ahead and stare when I see hot guys weight lifting, I don’t look at their arms; I stare at their crotch secret unveiled.

  • Depends on my hair and how sharply dressed I am.

  • Haha, I’ve actually had a couple of mexicans sit next to me on the stationary bikes and discuss asking me out (in spanish which I assume they thought I couldn’t understand). They discussed it for quite awhile until my fairly muscular brother came over and started talking to me. They thought he was my boyfriend… haha whatever.

  • Little kids stare.  Everyone else ignores me.

  • Dan, I <3 you. This made me giggle so hard so early in the morning. hahahahaha.

  • hmm .. dunno lol

  • I don’t pay attention at others but my mom says a lot of people look at me whenever we are out. I don’t go to gym, I go jogging around my house. =)

  • I always wore very baggy clothes when I went to the gym, so no.

  • What if they’re really long first looks?

  • Not at the gym.

  • Yes but only because I am 6’10″ and people are shocked by my size and I get looked at by both sexes but it is out of sheer curiousity nothing sexual. And sometimes it is a pain because I get asked a lot of dumb questions especially about basketball a sport I loved playing when I was young but now can’t stand because at the age of 51 have grown a bit tired of the questions and I never did like watching that bores me.

  • [I did not get too offended because I assume most of the women are just lesbian.]

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!  Keep telling yourself that.  You need plastic surgery, not a gym.

  • Maybe sometimes, and the rest of the time it’s because of something I said lol.

  • i don’t wear those kinds of shorts to the gym hahah. but the other day i was going through the drive thru at chikfila and there were some young men working on the building (they weren’t bad looking) and i smiled at one of them, just like a  ”hey how ya doing” smile and he smiled and followed me with his eyes until he couldnt see me anymore. *blushes* had i gotten out of the car though he would have stopped looking as soon as he saw my big ole pregnant belly…and my son. :(

  • lol it’s not that they are lesbian it’s that women actually go to the gym to workout. They are in the zone. Unless you go up to them and introduce yourself, they aren’t going to look at you.  They are focused and committed to getting healthy. Do you know how many women are obese or overweight or ever in the healthy zone who want to be as small as the lady at the top of the picture? Almost all of them. And the few who are happy with their bodies are not at the gym. They are either married and don’t care anymore or at home watching soaps, taking care of their cats, and eating icecream …..living the dream. lol (Or they just sincerely love their bodies and take walks outside and stay healthy in that way.) Either way women stay focused in the gym. Women don’t lose weight for men, they lose weight for themselves. It’s just the opposite for men. Men gain muscle so women can check them out, but truthful, as a women I can say this, I would rather go out with a guy that is skinny or has a little lean muscle then go out with a guy who looks like the hulk. I don’t like macho husky guys…they just look gross. Most women don’t like guys to look like that. Healthy lean muscle is the best way to go. Women on the other hand want to feel skinny, and happy. It’s all about what the feel like. That is why you can go out to a women and she can be in the healthy bmi range, but still feel fat and vice versa, you can go up to a overweight women but she see herself as healthy or skinny because that is how she feels. I think if a man can make a women feel skinny, he probably has her for life. lol just my thoughts on the subject.

  • I barely get first looks, let alone second :P

  • Can definitely tell a difference when I’m in my Pilates clothes or my skinny jeans.

  • @fragility_beautiful -  beautiful speach. I could not trace evil in your writing. You must have been loved all your life.

  • Dan in tight black pants?
    /need for cold shower averted.

I work out in sweats and do yoga wearing leggings. I never wear those tight shorts, they leave nothing to the imagination, plus I don’t feel like shaving my legs every time I work out. lol

  • Not that I’m aware of. Then again I don’t really have that typically “sexy” kind of look that most guys like. Ah well.

  • Cheers to whoever invented those pants…

  • LMAO.  nice one.

  • Yes, but I’m an ethnic minority where I live, so I never know if it’s because I’m pretty or because they’re trying to figure out where I’m from.

  • I probably do because I am usually the one wearing the tight black pants/capri’s (not shorts don’t wanna blind anyone!!!!) and shirts. And I have huge boobs too… So that’s probably what they are staring at.. HAHAHAHAHA

  • I’m lucky if I get first looks.

  • Maybe you are really ugly? You should post a picture on xanga so we KNOW why they weren’t looking…. Just kidding! :)

  • i wear those, but i wear shorts OVER them, because i’m not a skank. and don’t have to wear shorts like that to show off my ass.
it looks nice no matter what.
buuuut i get second looks anyways, because um, well i’m hot.

  • I honestly don’t know if I get second looks or not. I’m usually too busy to pay attention.

  • I really doubt it.

  • nope, i think I just get the first look, and that’s it =/
especially at the gym…i sweat a LOT, so I don’t notice me getting second looks, and probably don’t

it’s oki, maybe they were all lesbian, or there was a really good show on tv.

  • Anytime my husband does a double-take at me, I consider it a singular triumph. Haha.

These comments have been awesome, lol.
    ~V

  • hahahah, they were totally all lesbians.

I don’t really go to the gym a lot, but I guess I get looks. I actually had someone cross the street to come over and talk to me and ask me for my number a couple days ago, it was uncomfortable. I also look at other people a lot, but not necessarily because I think they’re attractive, I just think that people are interesting. I’m also really good at reading people and it’s sort of fun for me to figure people out without talking to them. So, people will catch me looking at them a lot and it’s awkward.

  • What a funny post! I think I get looks all the time but who knows, they could be staring right past me.

The gym is part of my weekly routine and it’s contrary to the point of feeling good about yourself if you go dressed like a slob. I do make it a point to always match, always wear comfortable gym clothes (like the shorts above-own several pairs myself ;) and look presentable.

I however, am there to maximize whatever time I have committed to. I intentionally keep my eyes on the floor, my image in the mirror, or the cardio machine. I purposely (although sometimes I find myself needing to re-focus) make a point not to lollygag and think about anything except rpm’s, hr, intensity, reps, sets, etc. You can’t give 100% at lifting, stretching or cardio if you’re watching and wondering about everyone else-no offense!

  • @fragility_beautiful - Yes! In the zone is exactly right. Seems like men in the gym go for the social aspect…they look forward to spending their time there-why not? Hotties dressed in spandex and a testosteronie atmosphere. For us, we’re like: get in, sweat, burn, get the hell out so I can take a hot relaxing shower and ahve a glass of wine!

  • thankfully no. i hate being stared at. it is quite disturbing.

  • I’ll look, but typically its the “I -hate-that-she-can-wear-that-and-I-cant” look. Then I find myself working out even harder LOL.

  • lol most guys I know are really aware of their surroundings while working out. Many people my age consider women working out an “odd thing” so they are always on the look out. Whereas women don’t usually look around as much… or at least I am :) I stick myself in this tube and can hear nothing but my music and see nothing but the ocean ahead. It’s just how I concentrate. As for “giving second looks” haha I have NOOOOO idea if I do or not.

    Mercedes

  • Case in point for why I work out in the room specifically for women.  The windows are made so that no one can see in or out.

  • LOL! you assumed what!?
    awesome post.

  • From both girls and guys… I get people who pull over to try and get my number when I have my wedding ring on and walking with my daughter… I’ve also had my fair share of scary creepos following me and things of that sort…

  • @ohveryoung - Is being beautiful a burden?  Honest question not only for you but anyone else that cares to answer.  For those of you who have won the genetic lottery, if you are attractive, isn’t it reasonable for people to notice?  Do you feel as though when people look at you, they aren’t able to just appreciate your beauty, but just desiring you sexually?

  • I do but I figure it’s either because of my Mohawk or because I am a little funny looking.

  • I don’t pay attention. Those giving me second looks and whistles I bet they do the same to every chick with boobies.

  • i have no idea, if i get second looks… Beauty is in the eye of beholder!

  • All my adult life from men, which sort of messes with my head, but recently since I lost weight and gained a lot of muscle from my job, I’ve turned a head or two.  It’s flattering, but they’d look away just as quickly if they were tall enough to see the rapidly growing bald spot at the top of my head. I’m at the awkward spot where I’m not just balding, but not yet bald, and even if my hair’s cut short, it looks like I’m wearing a monk’s cap.  Good thing is, my wife thinks bald men are hot, so as long as she’s impressed, I’m good.

  • if i do its not because of my sex appeal. unless its in a factory environment… i don’t know why…

  • Sometimes.

Also, this reminds me of a friend trying to hit on this beautiful girl at the bar. He was so drunk he couldn’t even make a sentence to introduce himself, and after getting increasingly frustrated at his incoherence, he stomped out of the bar, but managed to YELL, “THAT BITCH IS A FUCKING LESBIAN.”

@Seussian - I used to think it was, to a extent. Oh how awful getting hit on and admired all the time! Two kids later I’d do anything for my swimsuit model body back. I’d much rather have people look at me because they want a piece than because I have disgusting stretchmarks peeking around the edges of my clothing.

  • The gym is a place of high anxiety for women who just want to work out.  For guys I guess, pumping iron stimulates the testosterone and that is why women can’t get a moments peace from those roving, hungry eyes.

So getting second, third and on into gawking stares at the gym is no biggie.

  • I don’t go to a gym.  Probably because I’m not a lesbian.  JUST kidding!    I work out in my basement and run on a trail.

    Kathi

  • I love this post, I for one don’t even get a first look, its ok though because looking at me they see me as there Dad, most likely.

  • hey i am not much interested in gym…

It totally depends on our daily routine life work!!!

    http://city-news.org

  • I get looks at the gym all the time but only because I have long hair and girls mistake me as one of them =P

  • Rape correct the lesbos.

  • @Seussian - Being beautiful isn’t a burden.  However, there is a definitive difference between appreciating beauty and objectifying a woman.  Blatantly ogling a woman in tight shorts is clearly objectifying her, and not appreciating her beauty.

  • The worst is when you go on the treadmills at the gym. Even with the best sports bra in the world it’s a nightmare.

  • hahahaha! you’re so funny, dan :P

I get looks sometimes, but I always wear shorts over my spandex. I feel too naked when I’m just wearing spandex! haha

  • Nope. And if I do it’s because I’m weird.

  • @ohveryoung - It’s possible that they were appreciating and not ogling.  Sometimes people take long glances or depending on the beauty of the woman, multiple glances…happens sometimes; but even then it would be difficult to tell if a man was objectifying you short of the obvious clues.

  • I always used to notice..at the gym, who the men would look at.. The skinnier the woman, the more looks. no wonder so many of us are eating disordered. I saw it with my very eyes..The skiiniest of girls and women got the looks..The SICK part, though, was when I’d spot grown men eyeing up fucking 16 year olds…so..no wonder we starve..but what for??? second looks..I only remember getting second looks when I get down to 118 lbs..I have been at 138 lbs a lot of yrs..but that doesn’t get the looks. I am 43! and if i get down to 110..i am certain, men will look more..but anyhow..good luck with your surverys!

Also..yeah..i compare women..often..always aware of who is the skinniest in the room..used to make me wanna work out harder and longer at the gym. i always am aware of which women are skinniest wherever i go.

  • “Most of the women are just lesbian?” Hahaha sorry but the reason they didn’t look at you wasn’t because they were lesbians. Either they didn’t find you attractive or you didn’t stand out….or they were just really focused on their workout. Lol.

  • It’s not you, Dan. Women at the gym are in serious workout mode, no looking to get laid(most of the time).

  • I’m usually oblivious to these things

  • bahaha. I get those looks everywhere >.>

  • For some reasonI get looks from old men and dirty looks from women :S

  • I blend in like the wallpaper, so no, I don’t get second looks.

  • Yes. But I swear it’s because i’m almost 5’11 and they’re staring at the giant walking by -.-

  • My wife is 75 and gets second looks. I know gals don’t second look me.

  • ha ha, most women are lesbian, funny

  • “I did not get too offended because I assume most of the women are just lesbian.” Hahaha.

    I look. Sometimes I drool. Just kidding.>.>

  • Only if I have toilet paper stuck on my shoes.

  • lmao This is true (I’m lying) only lesbians work out at gyms.

I hate second looks.  lol  I don’t know if I know them and they’re double taking because I should remember them or what.  I always get double takes with them looking at my face, so I reckon that’s good… maybe.  I don’t know.  Not at the gym though.  Recently I had “stalkers” on the freeway.  Yeah, kinda weird people should be driving, not checking out other drivers.

P.S. Women don’t get caught looking cuz we have ninja skills in that department.

  • oh man i had to walk through the man-dominated weight section in my tiny gym shorts the other day. I didn’t even have to look, my peripherals told me they all looked at me. it’s awkward. sometimes, when I’m on the elliptical there will be some guys walking behind me, then i’ll notice they’re walking in front of me, as if they did a loop.. and they’re looking. I just give them full on eye contact. Yeah, caught you lookin. haha

  • @dear_TOMORROW - I think that’s normal. All girls at the gym are in this unspoken competition with each other for some reason.

  • I guess I don’t notice, usually I’m with my trainer.  The only time I do notice is when they stop and watch me for a couple minutes.  Then it’s kinda creepy.

  • I have to thank a fellow Vancouverite for those tight workout clothes women wear – Chip Wilson, founder of Lululemon

  • @poosywhistle - lol I doubt that, come on.

  • you assumed most of the women were lesbians? Why? Well, as of right now, I’m working on dropping those pounds so I DO get those looks… let’s see if it works?

  • LOL!!  Not at all like I used to (but even then it wasnt very much).  Some days I wish I did!

  • @love____always - Hey Hey Love__always. Im rather obese myself, and I rather like not being stared at, sometimes im glad im not one of the “Beautiful People” . I   was   attractive as a younger man, but i just used my looks to get sex. Cryin shame.Ive almost forgotten what its like to look good..lol.Oh well, you cant be young forever. Later.

  • I don’t pay attention, but I’d assume not. I think I give off the vibe that I don’t care cause I look mad. plus I always look like shit at the gym, starting with my clothes. tight pants are an absolute no for my short, stubby legs. I wear either gym shorts or running pants and a t-shirt. and then after and while I’m working out, my face gets super pink and my hair gets gross too. that ain’t getting no second looks, hahaha.

and awww, yes I’m sure those girls are lesbian. why else would they not give The Dan a second look? (:

  • @Uek - agreed! and you can tell the serious ones from the ones who want to get laid/find a boyfriend because the latter will come with a face full of make-up, cutesy clothes, booty shorts and pretty hair.

  • No Dan they think you’re gay for not looking at them, that’s why they don’t give you a second glance. You probably won’t read this comment, but I’m writing this for free eprops and to answer the question just because. LOL

  • If I do I don’t notice them.

  • Yes, but not because I am physically attractive. ;)

  • I get a lot of nasty comments mostly when I wear clothes that fit. From other guys. They will either make hostile third person comments to companions or there is a lot of throat clearing and averting gaze. So it’s either hostility or discomfort. Hostility in groups, discomfort alone.

When I wear clothes that DON’T fit then the mockery goes into high gear with non-verbals and facial expressions of a kind of smug smarminess. I call it the smile out the side of they face Cali-fag half step. When males are with a female that they appear to be romantically aligned with there is forceful verbal dismissal of anything I am showing interest in. It’s very confusing.

Women tend to make eye contact, which freaks me out so I look away and then they tuck, slump or some other non-verbal that I cannot figure out.
I’m thinking of going to live in the woods or jumping off a bridge with a steel cable tied around my neck. I don’t remember it ever being like this.

  • YES. I am a skinny girl with a fairly big butt, so I get a lot of looks when I wear tight pants at the gym. It’s funny how some guys are stupid enough to not realize that when I am working out in front of a mirror, I can SEE them checking me out from behind. The most annoying guys are the ones who have to show off by lifting the heaviest weights in the world right in front of me to try and get my attention…and then make the loudest grunting noises like they are doing the most spectacular thing ever.

  • yeah. but i hate getting looks in the gym because it makes me feel uncomfortable.  can’t i just lift weights without feeling like i’m being watched?! >:(

  • If I get second looks I either don’t notice or keep my head down until they stop looking lol.  Either way I highly doubt anyone is looking at me while at the gym.  There is always some fit, confident girl in a sports bra next to me on the machines lol.
