I would need to know FAR more information than that. You know, like, personality, interests, etc. I don’t care about his job, but if he’s a jackass I don’t care if he’s hot. And if he’s a nice awesome dude who is motivated to improve himself, then I don’t care if he’s kinda fat. Morbidly obese would kinda be a turn off, though, I have to admit.

if I’m not sexually attracted to him, then we’re just platonic best friends or a sexless marriage, which some people might have as they get older, so I’d pick the hotter one for the best of both worlds, nice hot guy, but I wouldn’t mind if he gets fat later when he is a senior citizen, but when he’s still quite young, I prefer a hotter guy.

The wise woman would pick the first guy. He’s going to go more out of his way to make her happy… and he’ll deliver her the biggest nest egg when he dies. Judging from what I see, that death will probably be premature anyway. Then she can collect her inheritance and marry the second guy, who will undoubtedly be waiting for just that occurrance, as he’s an obvious gigolo! But when you’re a rich, young widow, what do you care? Forgive me if this observation sounds cynical, but it has many precedents!

it’s not superficial if you prefer attractive people. it’s how humans are made. it’s only superficial at the point where looks are all that matter to you.
that being said, of course I’d go for the second guy. but if I got to know the first guy and really liked him, I’d start to think he’s attractive. eventually I’d probably think he’s the hottest guy ever just because I love him that much.

I have many thoughts on this. As I am happily married, this is largely hypothetical. While my ideal is someone well-matched with me in appearance (something in between the two examples), I’d rather be with someone less attractive who thinks I’m amazing than someone more attractive who I feel insecure around. BUT if someone is super easy to connect to then I am willing to overlook or work through certain degrees of ugliness or intimidation. I think most people are like that. There are some people who are super shallow and some that are super not shallow, but I think most people want someone generally as attractive as they are, or a little better, and that they are willing to lower their standards a little bit if someone is special. They are also really excited when someone does that for them.

Judging by how a woman thinks, let’s say that Guy #1 exhibits strong body language and is able to get a woman to crack up laughing like crazy, whereas Guy #2 is kind of shy and nervous and he asks boring, routine questions such as “Where are you going to school?”, “What is your major?”, “Do you have a boyfriend?”, etc. While Guy #2 LOOKS more attractive, the woman would pick Guy #1 without much hesitation.

That would depend on the situation. Duh (ha ha). If I was good friends with one and not the other, and they both asked me on a date, its likely that whichever one I was friends with I would choose (if I could only have one date). If I didn’t know either of them, I’m sure I would pick the second guy, but at the same time people look a lot different with their shirts on, and I’ve had a crush on a few guys like the first one. And the job doesn’t really matter. This is definitely situational.
Maybe if the first one kept his shirt on because the second one is much too metro for my taste.

Well, women who want the best protection typically go for the one they most seriously need protection from. Go to hell and marry the devil rather than the closest thing to heaven on earth with someone who at least tries to be a saint; not in the kiss or kick everyone’s butt superficial way. The best immediate protection is also the most immediate and dangerous threat. The other way doesn’t even let the threat know you exist.

I see someone very overweight and I see someone who lacks self-control, who is unhealthy, who doesnt like being active, and may be a little irresponsible. While we do focus a lot on appearance, I think it’s because appearance reflects personality and character.
The job part… isn’t that superficial as well? You could claim they’re in it for the money, or.. you could say that someone who has landed a solid, well-paying job is more likely to be self-motivated, intelligent, responsible, or hard-working.
