I was reading a post the other day where a lady mentioned she would be spending less time on the Internet and xanga.
She mentioned that she was wasting time on the internet and she felt she was letting real life pass her by.
Have you ever regretted the time you have spent on the Internet?

4chan: The asshole of the internet.
I don’t regret it. I’m wasting my time for a reason.
No, I always learn something useful
Nah, if it would not have been Xanga, it would have been something else and I enjoy it here.
As a student, yeah. Some of the time I’m spending on here could be used elsewhere, like studying, or going out to work out.
xo’
only during finals week.
No, internet gives me porn, TV shows, movies, and Reddit. Life is good with those.
I’ve made too many good friends on xanga to have any regrets for the time I’ve spent on the internet.
I only use the internet when I have nothing better to do, so nope.
nope
All the time, as soon as I wake up, next thing I know its 5 hr later, back on and its past midnight.
nah because i am not using it only for my entertainment.
Sometimes, but then I realize that I have learned so much from it, it connects people to me that aren’t in their 90′s necessarily, and that I met my girlfriend of almost 4 years on it. It was time well spent, now if I could only get rid of spam and junk mail than it would be perfect.
Wait.
…There’s life outside the internet?
Rob of the Sky
sometimes…but usually not
Nope. Internet life and real life are both populated by the same people. They are the same life.
Yeah I do. I goof off on the Internet when I’m supposed to be working on the computer. It’s bad.
No, not really. Especially not the time I’ve spent on Xanga. I love reading and writing. :]
no doubt about it
Hmm, a little bit, but for the most part I do productive and educational things. I probably spend 20-30 minutes a day reading interesting news articles.
Being a writer I am also a reader, so no. But then, I tend to use the internet intelligently. Now, solitaire, that is another story, that’s where I do waste my time…
Yeah
Not really. If the internet suddenly didn’t exist I would just fill it with some other media be it TV, movie, book or whatever. Or I would just spend even more time outside.
Besides, “real life” revolves around the online world anymore. Nearly everyone can say they spend at least a few hours a week on the internet, especially now that you can access it from just about anywhere on your phone. Pretty impressive for something that barely existed twenty years ago.
It’s the Information Age; lives can be made and broken in cyberspace. That’s just how it is.
A lot of times yes, like right now I should finish some work and go to bed,but I just thought I look at Xanga a minute.I’ve met a few good folks here, one who has become a best friend and even like a brother I never had,has even asked me to be his best man if all goes well with a relationship he is in BECAUSE of Xanga and me sorta introducing them to each other.Kinda weird cuz at the time I had never met either of them, but sometimes you can sense realness even on the internet. There are many I trust that I’ve met here, but there are some and I’m greatful for that.
never!
YES. I waste so much time
No. At least on the internet you are interacting with people. I basically just spent my whole day playing Plants vs Zombies.
I don’t regret my time spent on the Internet.
Sometimes.
Yes. Mostly when I facebook creep or look at tumblrs. When I blog like I diary I see that as something that’s productive; not so much when I just go around commenting like this haha. If I limited myself to an hour or less online a day I’d probably get a whole lot more done.
Only when the internet gets involved with procrastination, sigh.
No not at all.
Yeah, only because I’ve procrastinated on papers and schoolwork COUNTLESS times.
Yes, a lot of my free time is spent on the computer playing and being immature, while i should make an effort to study the financial market and other serious things, and improve my living condition by doing so.
Yeah, when I spend hours on youtube watching dance videos….that I’ve already seen hundreds of times before. Youtubing is a drug. It nearly killed me last semester
i usually learn and research when i’m on the internet at some point. or communicate with people from other countries where communication would be difficult without the internet….sometimes i regret wasting my time on it…but it’s 11:20pm where i’m at and unless i wanna go skate by myself there’s not much to do right now lol
yes. porn site. ’nuf said.
I regret the phase when I would only ever blog to complain about the news. You know it’s bad when you read your own blog several months later and think, “Wow. Who gives a fuck?” I also regret being lured into random arguments with strangers. But I think I’ve gotten better at recognizing when I’m about to engage in pointless behavior.
Dan clasps his hands together upon sitting upon the computer. “Alrighty, where should I start, on one of the ish sites? Let me go check out my inbox.”
Wife: “Honey, dear, you’re going to be late for work.”
She hands him a cup of orange juice. Dan chuckles it down in large gulps and hands her back an empty cup.
Dan: “Sigh, ain’t that the truth. I”ll have to get on at work.”
Wife: “Now don’t forget, your lunch is on the table. And pleaaaase stay away from that psycho rulerofmasons guy, he’s quite disturbed!”
I should do more of these with other xangans. What do you guys think? If I can’t make myself laugh what’s the point. I’m not here to make long distance friends. I’m a jackass.
Xanga is never a waste of time. It is where I can get all my news, both political and gossip. And then spy into other peoples world. All while spilling out my depressed guts.
I do regret wasting time on othersites. But we live and learn and move on with our lives.
nah…I enjoy xanga…it’s the games that get me…but I still find the time to do me work tho…smile
Yesterday, I turned an atheist Hate-LoBornlyte Fest into a tour de force philosophy lesson. So many LoBornlyte haters actually engaged in worthwhile discussion that is was way past the verge of incredible!
It was the LoBorn Supremacy in action!
Yes, the net can be a time waster and I waste too much time using it. I’ve learned valuable things and met some great people here too so it’s not all a waste of time.
No… I can get the news I missed on tv. On Xanga, it’s my way of interacting with those I like because I haven’t met them in person yet.
Yes. I have regretted time wasted on Xanga and I am starting to see that social networking in general has become a real time drain and I am finding ways of really cutting down. I’ve been hours on certain sites, and that’s time I could be using to improve my life.
Occasionally, but I did meet my two best friends here and it does tend to be a case of, “I don’t have anything better to do anyway…”, so why waste more time on regrets??
Sometimes.
Oh yes. I’m a freelance writer, and I waste entirely too much time here that I could spend writing.
Sometimes, but I’m getting better at time management.
Not really. I am more up to date on what’s going on around me than most of my friends that don’t spend their free time on the internetz.
I don’t regret how I use my time anymore, I used to when I was attending class. I could have used more of my free time studying rather than being on the internet.
Sometimes. Most of the time, no.
define time
Dear Dan,
Stop wasting my time.
Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool
yes, but I’m addict… I just can’t stop. The withdrawals are pretty bad. But, I will minimize the dosage in time as life takes it right course. Have I regretted? not really. But do others regret, yes.
Well, here I am again, aren’t I? There are other things I could be doing, should be doing – a million, in fact. I was just gonna peak in before I started to finish a painting, help marilyn wash the windows, write in my journal, go to the library, the bank and the Strawberry Festival in town – and then I saw the question and it definitely struck a chord.
And here I am again. Will I regret it? Probably….depends on how long I stay…
Yes.
Nope. I’m always learning something new when I go on the internet. Just the other day I learned how to make fresh rose oil. Don’t know why I need rose oil, but if I do I will know how to make it from the roses in my garden
Yes and no. Yes, the Internet is a time waster, but it can also make people more knowledgeable about the world around them.
No, not on the internet as a whole. On Xanga… I would regret it if I hadn’t learned the most valuable lesson: know when enough is enough.
I used to try to limit myself to 2hrs per day (1hr in the morning/ same in the evening), but now I just go with when I have time. But, to an extent, I guess I’m wasting time. I don’t have many real life friends right now (having moved to a very small town where all the early20somethingyrolds are all asshole twits who don’t have it in them to make new friends), so it’s not like I really have a life outside of my family and work.
lol yep
I balance my time on and off the internet.
Hah, yes.
@omgroxie - your answer was the best!
if you had told me years ago that I couldn’t leave the house without a cell or I would be going on this internet everyday I wouldn’t have believed you. I still remember what life was before pc and I remember “sitting out” and what a pencil and paper is for but I’m old school.
The internet gives me a place to complain and things to complain about. So, kind of.
Why is that the picture? 4chan is hardly a waste of time if you actually try to make the most of it. o-o
Sometimes.
I don’t regret it. I know I should be out doing other things in real life, though.
Depends on what I’m doing. I honestly don’t consider Xanga a waste of time. It’s a place to practice writing, and, most importantly, a place to practice thinking. As a student, and a writing student at that, those are two things I actually need to do to succeed at this point in my life. I also don’t consider my YouTube subscriptions a waste of time because I follow a community that keeps me inspired to work harder at actual life. I don’t consider facebook wasteful either if it’s used for keeping in touch with people. It’s when you find yourself doing nothing for long periods of time that the internet becomes wasteful.
No, but sometimes I wonder if real life or internet life has more fake people…
No. Interestingly I have, however, regretted the days (that sometimes flow into weeks) when I don’t have time to sit down and log into Xanga! Here is my thought place. My place to express and process — sometimes in a literary way, sometimes in a conversational way — some of my thoughts, Sometimes no one even visits, but just getting it down and expressing what I’m feeling is just good for me. Those days I don’t take or have the time to do it feel like somethings missing & I “cheated” myself of my thought place, lol.
I have not regretted the time on Xanga, but I have regretted the lack of better options. If I had better real time options then I would spend less time with Xanga.
