The Critical Importance of the Recommend Button
I am often reminded that some people will recommend other posts, pulses and comments with little regard to the importance of the actual post or pulse.
(The photo section of xanga is not working at the time of this post).
Here are the categories of recommenders:
1. I will recommend anything that moves including pulses, comments and posts about recommending.
2. I will not recommend just anything but I tend to be a recommend ho.
3. I will recommend just about anything with “xanga” in the title.
4. I only recommend after thoughtful consideration of whether the post, pulse or comment will benefit the general xanga community.
5. I tend to be stingy with my recommends and will only recommend only every few weeks.
6. I am a recommend snob and can count on one hand how many posts I have recommended.
7. I am a recommend virgin.
Which category do you fall into?
Comments (89)

I am number 4 (just as the movie ends
)
i think 4…. i tend to forget the rec button exists a lot :/
first!
4, 5 and 6
@Rob_of_the_Sky - Try pressing F13.
I am somewhere between 2 and 4, but I’m not 3. My category is more, “I mean to recommend more than I do, but I usually forget to click the icon after I comment.”
I try to be a bit stingy with how often I Rec. I can’t stand people who Rec a thousand different posts and Pulses… and Rec’ing/sharing comments pisses me off. lol
I am a mixture of 5 and 2. I am fairly stingy with my recommends, because I want someone, when they see that I recommended something, to know that they are getting quality content. Generally, it has to be something I like, and something I think that others will like as well. Although, sometimes I do deviate, but not often.
It is after all a form of communication, and I am a man of few yet powerful words. *Smiles*
5. I only recommend if I want to come back to it at a later time. I’m not here for you fools.
Six. I don’t recommend often, and when I do it’s because I think it’s a pretty awesome post, or it deserves attention. I kind of have to be blown away by it. I feel like some people I’m subscribed to recommend almost everything they read, so my inbox will be flooded with recs, which I occasionally find annoying. I’m more likely to leave a long and thoughtful comment than to rec.
Somewhere between a 2 and a 4.
4
i don’t understand the first one?
4
4. I only recommend after thoughtful consideration of whether the post,
pulse or comment will benefit the general xanga community.
so, am I supposed to rec this post Dan? ha ha
recommend virgin….
Mostly 4, but if I see people in serious need of some support, I’ll often rec for that reason as well.
4. But I read a lot, and I recommend based on whether or not there are people on my subs list who might find it informative, useful, or fun to read generally.
Given the diversity of my friends list, I recommend a lot of what I read so other people will find it.
4
I, 2, 4… idk… all of those… I have various reasons for a rec… some of just an agreement and I don’t wanna write…. other’s I feel people should take a look at, and some I really relate to, or not enough credit for the written piece.
A 2 but also a bit of 4.
3.5
Good point thanks!
#4
You forgot 8. “I will recommend anything that makes direct reference to me.”
6 altho I will probably recommend this… *tee hee*
6, but I’d like to be a 4.
I hardly ever recommend things. Only if the post is really good, or if I want to encourage that person/help boost his or her traffic.
4.
Judging by the comments, this is the middle ground! You fail Dan.
2/4. I recommend things that are similar to my blog (and thus relevant to my readers): funny conversation or scenarios, baby related stuff, and beauty related stuff.
White people have a disease. They feel great pressure to do many things in little time. They must be occupied at all times. Their inner fear is numbed by constant shark movement. They have not found the meaning of life, joy, so they allow themselves to be defined by career success and awards. The lone white man desires power over everything else, and seeing that competition puts people in their place, they are patient compromisers, negotiaters, since he cannot rule the world, he does the next best thing, open up shop, a cafe. They begin to realize in their intelligence, mental clarity, and think, “how could we not be the chosen race, god gaveth us understanding.” They asser their superiority in subtle ways, in movies for instance. There is no stopping them. They are convinced they are the light, and if you are not white, to join them means to worship them.
Which brings out this important follow up. Christianity is the worship of the white skin, and jesus was the first white man.
#7. I only rec when I find the blog/comment that I absolutely agree with and replying with a simple agreed wouldn’t suffice, because it was as if I wrote the comment myself. I wanted to rec this comment from healthkicker before and I was excited that this is the first time that I felt an urge to click the rec link, but when I clicked it, it said that the user doesn’t allow others to rec them
4.
@RulerofMasons - W.T.F.
I would say 4, but yeah, I also tend to forget about that lil button….
I recommend when I want to recommend.
@perfectlyincompletex Lol, he’s trollin’…
Uhm, I’ve only recommended two pulses so far.
I try to limit myself, so I don’t annoy too many people.
6.
6… I’m a snob, it seems
Neither. If I finish a post and I genuinely smile or laugh I consider recommending. But ONLY then.
4
I recommend entries I think my readers would like to read as well, because they read what I write.
I just lost my virginity by recommending this post.
@RulerofMasons - Non-white men are jealous.
2.
i’m a 6 – recommend snob lol.
@Jewelbeetle - In the contrary mrs cupcake princess. Why do you suppose white people try so hard to flush everything else down a global toilet? You fear the other races, racism is the fear that perhaps one’s own race is really not that greater. Deep down inside you don’t believe in a Jehova, because that would put the white race on trial. Instead, brute force is how you attain, and although your race has truly been blessed, to justify murder is inevitable, and murder is a seriousubject. You guys believe the world will be a better place with only whites. I can see your white decay cancer illness, I wish there was something I could do.
4
I’m a 4. I have no problem recommending things, but only if they’re something people will appreciate.
4, 5 or 6 depending on my mood….
There is a recommend button? How do you add pictures? I guess I have to call my 15 year old and ask him.
I guess #4?
4 and 5 I think. I don’t really recommend things that often.
Either 2 or 4… It depends on the day… And my mood…
2
The five people who recommended this post probably fall into the category of number one or number two. Not that I’m saying that makes them bad people…more like I’m subtly pointing out that I probably fall into five or six.
5. My recs are rare and effective
.
I don’t think I fit into any of those categories. I rec what I enjoy reading and want others to read also.
4/5
#6 for sure
Somewhere between 3 and 4. I don’t use endless consideration but I do make sure it’s quality content that I’m recing.
LOL #4
I am sort of a 4. I recommend entries I think others would enjoy or benefit from.
I’m #5, I hardly rec anything, but once I do I always have the thought “gee I haven’t rec’d anything in a while” so then I’ll rec 3 or 4 things in a day and then not rec anything again for months. I’m weird.
7. I’m really picky about whether a something is sharable, so I guess that makes me a 6 too? I mean, it has to be well written and enriching.
Usually 4.
8. I prefer to “like” this.
I recommend something if I agree with it, or if I believe others should look at it. Nothing more, Nothing less, than honesty.
7. never recommended anything yet. i don’t know why.
I’m #4 for sure. I find it hard to believe that there would be any other reason to recommend. Am I missing the actual definition of “to recommend”. Here goes:
The first thing that popped up when I googled. This is wikipedia’s version:
Put forward (someone or something) with approval as being suitable for a particular purpose or role: “George had recommended some local architects”.
I think that’s pretty clear. And what I have always understood it to mean.
How do you account for all the non-white despots, monarchs, dictators, and evil presidents? White men aren’t the only ones that are greedy and racist.
1
how appropriate.
LOOK AT MA BLOG PLEASEEEEEEE (L)
muchos love.
http://shakeyourbeauty.onsugar.com/
I don’t recommend very often and hope then others will pay attention when I do but then I guess I should do it more often
6
I recommend comments/posts that I agree with =
six. comments on the other hand, I recommend more often if someone takes the words out of my mouth :].
4 fo sho
Usually I rec something if I laugh out loud.
ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddw
probably 4
Probably 6, although I can’t count them since I don’t actually remember any of the stuff I recommended. They probably made me laugh, though.
#4
Pretty much 1, 4, and 6.
4. what number are you, dan?
I recommend things that I like and things that make sense so I can look at it later.
