  • Are You Paid What You Are Worth?

I feel I am paid for what I am worth.  In other words, I think my employer pays me what I deserved to be paid.  I work hard and they pay me appropriately for that hard work.

I see so many people who think they should be paid more but they don’t do the little extra stuff.

Are you paid what you are worth?

  • I should be paid more.

Maybe, if I got a job, this would happen…

  • I’m unemployed so that would make me worthless…. so hopefully not!

  • Yes I am. My pay is based on my sales so yes.

  • Not even close.

I’m a department manager, as well as assistant to our accounting department and education department. I’m paid the same as the general sales staff.

  • no dude :(  ’m the sole graphic and web designer for 3 different distributing companies, as well as tech support. i make $12 an hour. i stay late ALL the time for no overtime. nevermind that its not the field i’m in ….but yeah ultimately no, i’m miserable and still poor. and job searching!

  • Considering I do accounting work, I am known as reliable, always finish my duties/jobs early, and the stores are actually

    fighting

for me (the store I currently work at is closing so I’m being transferred to either the main store or the new store) no, I don’t think I’m paid enough. I had to throw a tantrum after they failed to raise my wage from minimum wage for two years.

  • Right now….yeah, it’s about right.

  • I work in mental health so that’s a definite “NO.”

  • I teach. So that should easily tell you my answer is NO. One of the most underpaid, overworked, and underrespected professors out there.

  • I am well overpaid. THANKS, AMERICA! :D

  • @AlynRochelle - Thank you for what you do.

  • I don’t have a job right now except loving my wife, and well, let’s just say I’m satisfied with the pay.

  • if only I could get paid for sperm donation

  • Not for one of my jobs.  I get paid less that a girl who got promoted to my same position who has worked here for 4 months…I’ve worked there for more than a year longer than that.  At my other job I get paid much more…but we’ll see.

  • No. But I don’t have a job, so…..

  • The question really begs a greater question – which is, is there an objective value for work?

Because anyone working picking fruit works 10 times harder than any television Actor and in one sense deserves 10 times as much as the best paid actor. In another sense, the cult of personality a popular actor has, irregardless of acting chops, can provide a livelihood for an entire community – other actors, writers, producers, key grips, set designers..etc. and in that light ‘deserves’ a greater salary.

My job at a phone bank requires enduring hostile responses, a great discipline to stick to a even a terribly written script, and a talent for delivering even a terrible script in such a way as to sound natural and make sense to a listener for whom English may be a second language. I think that’s worth more than I am paid.
But the market reality is no one is worth more than the least someone will accept to replace a worker you are now hiring. So no one In the USA is worth even minimum wage in that light. We are worth less than the smallest salary of a Chinese worker in the modern world. Is why the factories are relocating overseas.

  • No. I stay at home with the kids. I don’t even get paid in amounts of sex very often.

  • I am a stay at home mom, so i definitely don’t get paid what i’m worth.  But it’s worth it in smiles and laughs and good times.

  • I’m not paid a thing…. Probably

  • As a teacher, no way.  I’m very disillusioned about the whole thing.  Time to do something different.

  • With the jobs I’ve had, I would say yes. I am currently unemployed so…..

  • They pay me what I agreed to work for, so yeah.  We all would like to make more than we do.
    @chantyshira - lmao

  • No, not all. I realize I’m only a waitress and I probably make more than I would elsewhere but people don’t tip me enough to put up with them. My employer only pays me 4.35 an hour and there are days when people won’t even cough up 10%. And I guarantee my guest excellent service. Don’t like your food? We’ll get you something else. There are days when guest get about 20 dollars removed from their check for a mistake the kitchen made and they don’t even bother to drop a five. I have even been accused of having bitten a woman’s lemon before I put it in her water. We can’t even touch the lemons with our hands! Why in the world would I put them in my mouth and then serve them????

  • @myk5 - agreed. most are actually overpaid compared to those people working in outsourced factories overseas for example.

  • i have no job. and i don’t get paid. definitely paid for what i’m worth. ;D

  • It is in the nature of employers to underpay everyone but themselves.

Currently feeling underutilized in my job right now. I know that will change soon enough, and I am looking forward to it.

  • Paid what I am worth…?  THIS.  IS.  BANGLADESH!

    -_-

  • Really every man woman a child is worth food, shelter, clothing, companionship, leisure, dignity and fun – and it’s dysfunction any wage or job that deprives a person such.

I will add the the American middle class is dependent on a progressive tax with a top tax no less than 70%. With such a high tax (just on income in excess of 1 million) the wealthy can enjoy a windfall of more money by reporting less income. This historically means money is left in businesses to pay good employees enough to not leave and to attract the best employees from competitors, and to hire enough employees for a business to run flawlessly.
It’s no coincidence that the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy has resulted in wages dropping and factories being relocated overseas.

  • I am happy when I got employment (all via employment agencies) the amount I got paid (including over time amounts)

When I did like a training placement (NVQ),   we got a training allowance,  £50 if we were on placement and £40 if we were not on a placement.   Not forgetting bus fairs (we have to pay the first 3 or 4 pounds) but could only buy week savers

I think we should have got a little more as some of us got taken complete advantage of.      The placement was good working at a funeral director (as least I know the type of casket I would like now)

    Currently unnemployment

  • If one wants to be paid more, then be a entrepreneur. Of course, there are risks to it. Working for others can never equate your worth. It is all political. You either are liked or not liked and that is what will make your pay difference.

  • Hm, possibly, considering most of my pay comes from tips.

  • @the_evil_tamica - there are a few people who make it all worth while right?

  • @Baseballchik138 - a few… on days when little kids aren’t shooting spitballs at me.

  • If you like my eyebrows, rec this comment.

  • I am a technical professional and I am happy with what I am doing.
They pay me enough for me to get two meals a day.
hmmph now that you mentioned it … i could do with a bit more motivation.

  • Apparently I am worthless. Try establishing a life when you’re worthless.

This pay what you are worth concept is bollocks anyway because many people (teachers, nurses, etc) are underpaid and many people (we all know who) are overpaid. You are fortunate to receive just what you feel you are worth. Be thankful.

  • No. People in our company are paid based on their title, not what they bring to the table. I am one of only three people (other than the majority owner) in the office that has a college diploma. I have a nationally recognized certification within my field. I personally wrote 3/4 of the software that runs our business. I am also the web admin and in-house graphic designer as well as the MS Office expert. There are several “title holders” that make way more than I do.

  • Hey Dan ….. remember me?

  • At my current job I’m paid more than I am worth.  That, combined with the economy, means I’m not working much these days.  :)

  • Paid waaay to much for what I do (or appear to do).  Tho it’s a great feeling.. makes my wallet happy!

  • Yea, I am paid fairly.

  • I’m overpaid.

    I do nothing.

  • I’m a teacher. What do you think?

  • Nope. Over the last few years my boss has continued to pile extra responsibilities onto my workload, while keeping me at the same job title and pay as the people he now requires me to manage. I also have to drive them around all over the place, while not being paid mileage.

  • Well, no….I get paid fine when they pay me…. but I only get paid for a couple hours a week…..and I volunteer AT LEAST 10x what they pay me for…..and my job ends up costing me money….but I do love it.

  • Seeing last year I basically made a lil over $100 a month (not making any ends meet), I would say yes… but was I being paid good yes too… see I can get paid 35-40 and hour this year I had to drop to 30 an hour… business is really really slow… I guess I just need to push for more business and expand. Very hard when the music departments are suffering and student’s parent’s pockets are suffering as well…

  • I work my little ass off and put up with a lot of bullshit. I definitely don’t get paid enough! I recently got a $0.30 raise. Woo!

  • For a while, I wasn’t getting paid what I was worth at all. I am now. I am content with what I make now.

  • I’m a social worker, so no. But it’s not like I didn’t know that going into it.

  • Nope.. but with this economy, I’m lucky to even have a job.

  • A couple extra dollars more an hour and I’d be satisfied. I do a lot of work, but it’s not difficult work. Though, I think my expertise in the field and past work experience should get me a good amount of pay by now. Sadly, the economy sucks and I technically work retail. No es bueno.

  • I do, but unfortunately I am in the middle class, so my taxes are paying for everyone else. If I could make as much in Asia, I would move there and live like a king.

  • NO, not even close

  • No.  We have taken on 40% extra of an already-busy contract, and then from that, taken over 3 branches full of work.  And hired no one extra at all.  The extra call volume alone warrants probably a $5 an hour increase, I cannot tell you how much we have become a call centre for harassment.  And we get paid less than those working at a call centre.  And that isn’t our only workload increase.

  • I am paid well for what I do.  I have no intention of going out and getting a license only to be put under some company who can tell me what to do.  I prefer to be on my own.  Granted if I got the license I would make almost double the money, but I wouldn’t be any happier.

  •    I like my job, so that means a lot to me. I would rather have my job (which doesn’t pay overly well) and enjoy it then be getting payed boockoo and hating it. My husband feels the same. He teaches school. I work at a coffee shop.

We’ll never be “rich,” but we are happy.

  • Well, considering I’m technically unemployed right now, yeah, I think I’m making, wait a minute, nothing… nope. Underpaid. Well, if you value money. I AM paid in weird looks and laughs as I stumble around downtown in the early morning, if you call that being paid. Which I do. I keep count! 27 weird looks, that’s got to be more than anyone else made last week.

  • I teach for a living.  Am I paid well?  Yes.  Am I paid what I’m worth?  Certainly not.  Even with my Master’s degree, I’m underpaid.  But I didn’t go into my field for the pay.  I went into my field because I love what I do.

  • Yea, I’m a software engineer in the medical industry and I just got a nice raise :D .  Business is good.

  • I love my job!  I work hard and get paid in bonus hugs and smiles and kid humor.  I’m probably overqualified, so financially it’s not enough.  However, it was my choice to have this job and not a more stressful job in the same field, so too bad for me.

  • For my summer job, I am definitely paid enough.

  • No, not at all, but I deal with it because I know my boss doesn’t exactly come away wealthy either.  I do my job because I mostly enjoy it and I do the extra things because I like my boss and her clients and I don’t see harm in going out of my way from time to time.  If she could pay more she would, but right now she can’t.  I would rather work 3 shit paying jobs I enjoy than 1 high paying job I hate.

  • I’m a preschool teacher… which pays, unfortunately, LESS than an elementary, middle school, or high school teacher.  Nope.

  • not at all. i bust my butt for a “sales associate” job, but do more than just selling items. my department is huge so i’m running all around/cleaning. i got paid more by working at CVS by standing behind a register than working for MACY’S. it sucks.

  • Definitely underpaid, I am the only one who does my job at my company (meaning if I don’t do it, no one else does because only one other person even knows how). Not to mention I have been trained in and help out with at least 70% of the other jobs (not all at the same time thankfully). Work overtime every week and work very efficiently. Yeah, about time I got a raise.

  • For the most part. I got a raise recently, so I’m not complaining. My boss has actually made the comment to me that he thinks I am not, but I think it’s pretty fair. When I was hired, I was still living with my parents and it was a full time job and I thought they paid me too much. Then I moved out and suddenly it was just barely good enough (and I don’t live anywhere expensive, either). But I think I get paid fairly for what I do. Sure, I’d like more, but I’m not complaining too much. :)

  • I am not paid what I am worth.  I do the extra things to help the department/company and still don’t get a raise.  Reading this made me realize I need to go somewhere I am appreciated!  Thanks!

  • I am paid what I am worth.

  • Not quite…but can’t complain with the unemployment rate today…Better to getsome than none  hotpage.biz

  • Ha! …..no. Teachers get paid little for the huge amount of work we do.

That said, I didn’t pick my job based on salary and I continue teaching only because I love my job and I love the kids.

But I never, ever calculate my per-hour salary. I’d weep.

  • minimum wage = $7 and come odd cents

i’m getting paid = $5 and some odd centsI work more hours than I’m supposed toI never leave earlyI do everything that’s asked of me plus someNope, i don’t think I’m getting paid what I’m worth

  • In one of my jobs I might be slightly overpaid, based on the fact that I’m the owner’s son. In my other job I don’t get paid at all, but my kids get a tuition break. So that’s the perfect level.

  • it depends on which job I am at. generally, yes, I think so.

  • Yes, for the job I currently do I am happy with what  bring home, of course I would love to  make more.  But that would mean I have more to do which in turn would amount to less time with my family. So i like where I currently am, I also know that my boss respected each one of his employees and that stands for a lot.

  • Nope and that’s my fault but I’m in the process of fixing that.

  • Pretty much okay :) ))
