  • Have You Ever Left Xanga?

One strange thing about xanga is the tendency of the people on xanga to leave xanga at one time or another.

I know multiple people who have shut down their xanga sites at least 40 times only to start a new xanga site.  Then there are the xanga’s who say they are leaving only to start posting a few days later.

    Have you ever left xanga?

  • Yeah like once a week! :)

  • Yep. Lasted only three weeks before I returned and made a new site.

  • I’m actually thinking about ditching this account for awhile. I’ll still keep my other one though.

  • Never! Never even been tempted.

  • A day and a half. I keep coming back.

  • I have never left Xanga.  I’ve never even taken a break.  I have changed my screen name once because of my stalker ex who was actually the one who got me started on Xanga (this was before friends lock).  I want my InkedShamrock name back!

  • I haven’t left as in deleting an account. But I’ve gone like, a year without posting or checking up on it. I don’t plan it either! Life just gets busy and I forget very easily. Oops

  • I left for 5 whole years, then made a new account :)

  • I leave Xanga daily.I’ve also gone on fairly long posting and reading breaks. Though, I check in daily to see if I have comments.

  • I took about a two-year break from here because I forgot about it, but when I came back in 2008 I never had a thought pass my mind to leave Xanga.

I never really understood the people who keep threatening to leave Xanga, and then we find out that they created a new account the next day – repeat for at least ten accounts. If you’re going to actually leave, leave.

  • Nope! Well I guess technically I’ve left Xanga without announcing it. I just stopped posting. But then I came back without announcing it either.

  • Just for breaks, but never my site. I only got to that point once, to consider it. But the good people on here – I couldn’t leave. And I only have ONE site too. And I keep it. It is enough for me.

  • I never shut down my account. I have taken breaks though.

  • I write an “I’m leaving” post every three days, but have never left.

  • I have often times! But I’ve only deleted one xanga… the first one that I used a lot and really loved… but suddenly I was getting all these weird comments from guys so my friend convinced me to shut it down… but later I regretted it. =[

  • I don’t think I’ve ever actually left for more than a few weeks. I may not post on one site for some months, or for forever, but I will undoubtedly be posting on at least one other site…since early 2005. It’s weird because NO other website have I lasted this long, or anywhere close at all. 5 years for Facebook is the second closest.

  • i stopped using it when all my friends left before i knew about the whole community aspect of it and made any friends here. i just came back a little over a year ago.

  • I haz lef no, I’m rite hurr

  • Almost my 4th time. Just because I feel like I have nothing to post.

  • I left about 7 or so weeks ago and re-joined a few days ago. I shut down my sites completely when I left. I messaged you when I rejoined, bu you didn’t reply. Pfft.

  • About 3 times? But I never really “left,” just took a few hiatuses! And sometimes had some serious writers block.

  • For three years I remained rather latent- maybe going back and revisiting for nostalgia’s sake or for whatever reason of sticking to what I start. I’d have those months where I could not post due to ‘Dat Muchos School Stress’ and weeks where I just didn’t access the site. Ultimately though, I’ve come back and I want to stay.

  • I made my first account in 2002, deleted it in 2005, then made another a few months later.

  • YES I LEFT

i have an on and off relationship with xanga

  • @fLiPgUy31O - omg i made one in 2002..shut it down around 2005 coz some stalker loll and came back on and off ..on and off

  • i’m just like every other unique and special person on here. haha. I have left for as long as several months, but only in the sense of not updating. I have never wanted to delete my xanga account or stop tuning in permanently.
    -James

  • @nomilktoday - Interestinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng. I deleted mine because I felt like I didn’t need it, but returned because I needed an outlet.

  • Yeah, when I graduated middle school and everybody moved onto Myspace (which no one uses anymore) and Facebook.

But now that next to no one I know uses Xanga anymore, I can write whatever the hell I want. 8D

  • I never shut down my site. I did leave Xanga for several years, but that was due to real life issues, not anything happening on Xanga. When I came back to it, I completely reinvented my site.

  • hiatus from 2005 or so;

i simply forgot to sign in for years

    2010 i made a new account

  • I’ve started reusing my xanga only within the last month. Before that, the last time I had one was during the “layout/icon/quotes” craze… and before there were xanga ‘themes’.

  • I’ve taken many breaks since I started my account since 2004 but it’s because I was never apart of the community but my screen name has always been the same. I don’t think i would shut down the account but taking breaks will happen.

  • i’ve never shut down my accounts. just took long breaks.

  • I’ve taken a month or two off.  I might get sick of Xanga eventually, but I don’t see myself shutting down or announcing my departure.  I read more than I post or comment anyway, so it doesn’t matter much.

  • I did, but not by choice.

  • Yes,cuz I’m just such a sensitive man!

  • I only leave when I’m busy. Besides, this is not my main account (it’s for a specific topic), so I don’t update it as much as my personal site. I don’t think I would ever shut down my sites, though.

  • Nope. I stop posting at times, when I get lazy, but I’m always still here…

  • No, just misplace it every so often.

  • Yup. I was gone for like a year and now I’m back.

  • No. Unfortunately.

  • I take breaks but never close my account.

  • I’ve shut down two accounts before this one. I often “take a break” from xanga with this account that I often think will last a month but it only lasts about a week at the most.

  • i had one since i was probably 13 or so…but deleted it but now i have this one

  • @Cestovatelka - It’s never quite that simple.

  • Have you ever had a post that didn’t make Top Blogs?

  • Occasionally, I am gone for a month. I am so disappointed in myself during those times.

  • Yep! Been there, done that. I even deleted my old account and then decided to come back and create a new one, which is fine because I now have a username that I like and want to keep.

  • I’ve never left or thought of leaving. I’ll be here till the ship goes down and then follow you Dan wherever you lead us to.

  • The problem isn’t in me saying I’m leaving and then posting after a few days. Mine is saying I’ll be back to post tomorrow or during the weekend yet spending months away before coming back to do what I’ve said I’d do. I had done THAT, but now I’m back. I know… it’s NUTS!

  • I actually left xanga from 2006 and just re-started this year actually. I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. I was just young back then and didn’t really have anything meaningful to say. Well, that and I was exploring the party scene so I didnt have time to post about how wasted I was all the time. lol

  • Not in my seven years of using it.

  • well, I did go to the bathroom once, but I solved that by bringing in a bucket.

  • @Sir_Sparrow -  well it seems I have the luxury suite then doesn’t it .. as my seat doubles as the throne – because after all — that’s why I built this “comode chair” for … (out of an old Thetford portaloo).

  • Yep.. Everytime I sign out (but of course) .. like any GOOD SNAIL .. & thus I always leave a very good “vapour trail” .. (as in — I may “leave” by signing out.. but why bother deleting anything.. as I’d never find my way BACK .. without KEEPING my page alive at all times .. deep down inside here).

    ;_)

Or was that NOT what you meant.?

  • @TRIPELLO - portaloo? I went pass the Loo in Paris once. I didn’t go in. I figured I’ve never paid to have a shit in my life and that was the fanciest shithouse I’d ever seen. They’d want more than a penny in there. So I went behind a nunnery and fertilised their courgettes.

  • I have many times and even took a few years hiatus because I forgot about this place.

  • Yeah I ‘left forever’ back in 2009 or so when I had some troubles, but I started up lat year sometime.

Not like anyone reads my blog anyways. xD no matter.

  • I did once, for two and half years and now I’m back :D

  • I haven’t shut mine down yet, and probably won’t. But I have slowly stopped being on here as much. I still want Xanga available when I decide to come back full time.

  • I’ve been on hiatus, but never left.

  • Plus.. think opf all the broken LINKS .. that i’d never be able to (ab) use again ..

Nor of all the hundreds of people – to whom I have gifted my “funny_cards”

    With the E_Flowers4U link thereupon…

    http://tiny.cc/E_Flowers4U

    Plus .. I’d really go K_RAY_Z .. if i couldn’t karaoke that which I can’t..

    on http://tiny.cc/K_RAY_Z & look dad ..

NOW.. I’ve got another one in the fire..

Oops.. no sorry .. (as) that’s not here is it.?

Ah well — it’s somewhere anyway.

  • you knlw I have, and ig it keeps up like it has I’m leaving again.

  • I have, but that was only cause I was grounded for a year in high school and wasn’t allowed on the computer at home.

  • I did and threw out all my posts, then came back after a month, just because I could.

  • left my first blog on here after about 3 years on Xanga. blogged under another blog for another 2.5 years, shut it down because of the douchebags on this site. now back but have lost all interest in Xanga and am rarely on.

  • only for breaks,   cannot live Xanga,  it too sexy to leave

  • I’ve never physically deleted my Xanga, but there were times when I didn’t post for like, half a year! Which is basically me living my life.

  • I’d like to leave with all of the annoying fights and crap going on lately.

  • There is nothing wrong with taking a break from a soical network: There are other things going on in the world besides blogging. I sometimes wonder where some people get the gull to blog unfounded garbage total rubbish…lol anyways I learned back in grade school you can’t believe everything your reading .

  • Back in 2005 or 2006 I started up a blog on Liveournal because I had some close friends there and I stopped using Xanga. I never shut down my Xanga though. After a few months I decided Livejuornal was lame and I shut down my blog and came back here. My Xanga site has been here since 2003! I haven’t been blogging much this year though.

  • Signed up in 2003. Wrote a post. found Xanga annoying. left for 7 years.

  • No.  I have taken breaks from posting, but I keep the blog here because it is a place to post where most of my coworkers and my students don’t go, so I don’t need to worry about any of them reading what I write. . . .

  • Nope.  I just never post.

  • I have taken a hiatus, but never really left!!

  • I left xanga once, I was gone for a couple years and then came back with this account.

  • I’m getting ready to leave for a while again. I’ve done it before once or twice before, but I’ve always ended up coming back. I’ll probably partially stay here or something, not real sure yet.

  • Several Times.

Longest break of a couple years. Shortest of a few weeks.

  • some announce vague “countdowns” to leave all options open.

  • I deleted my first account in like…2006?  I hadn’t really used it since 2005 though.  In 2007, I made this one, but I don’t really post all that often.  I usually leave people comments.  I check for comments, but I usually have none, lol.

  • Jim made goldsilk ‘left’ Xanga.

  • I left for about 5 years, and checked up on here once after like 2. Then I got sucked into some other social networking sites, only to realize I’d rather be blogging than posting statues all the time. So here I am, back on xanga (:

  • yes, I used to be Jillcarmel

  • I just came back after an absence of over two years. Still using the old account.

  • I’ve been on xanga since the 8th grade and have made, I kid you not, probably close to 20 or more different xangas throughout this 7 year period. I’ve only just came back after a 3 or 4 year hiatus from the internet world, and boy has a lot changed on here.

  • I heard Gravy made GoldSilk left Xanga.

I’m fake GoldenSilk (see, it’s not malicious impersonations when I admit to be someone else!). I’ve left Xanga under entirely different circumstances.

  • Ugh… what a horrible post… why would you make me think of all those times I quit Xanga! This place is like crack!

  • Yes. Because people are way too hateful on here. I deleted all my friends and subs and when I came back it was easier. Got mad the other day and wanted to shut down but didn’t…duh. Lol. I can’t get rid of beebizzle! Still hate the douchebags…therefore I’ll ignore them. :)

  • yup for about 3 years.

  • I do it all the time. Usually I forget my username or misplace my password, though :(

  • people who shut down their sites and make new ones over and over again irritate the hell out of me. it’s so pointless to do that. I’ve never left and I probably never will, but I have not posted during the busier times of my life.

  • I’ve left it in the sense that I’ve gotten away from posting… but I haven’t left it by actually shutting down the account.

  • Yes!  Several times, in fact.  I’ve never shut anything down, though.

I’m gone so much that I’m gone now, actually!  I blog elsewhere but pop back to visit now and then.

  • I’ll stick with a hamburger.

  • I come back and post on other peoples Xanga’s, but I’ve hiatus-ed myself from writing for a little while until I get on track with things. :)

  • I left once and then got the Xanga I currently have like not even 2 months later.

Also about 3 years ago I made a new Xanga and wrote on both but I don’t ever really use the other one. I’m saving it in case I decide to delete this one someday, though its unlikely.

  • I never leave because really Xanga is only for me…when I write for others to read then I put my blogs on other sites like for business, food, travel etc.

  • Sadly, I have.  But I was one of the last holdouts back in 2006, and about 90% of my friends/subs list was made up of IRL friends.  So after they all bailed for this newfangled “MySpace” thing, I eventually followed suit.  But, growing ever more weary of Facebook, I returned to the best blogging community of them all last month.

  • no but xanga has left me…..

  • ahahahahaha.  No!!!

  • Considered it many times, but I hate to think of starting over.  I like my name.  I like the few people who keep in contact with me.

  • I’ve left, and come back probably about 3 times.
Once because I lost my passwords and such after only like 2 posts.
The second time because I was going through serious life crap.
The third one (which turned out to be kinda helpful) was a “hiatus” rather than a total shut-down. Just until the whole thinspo craze died down…. then it was extended out when I moved states and lost the internet.
Now i’m back, but nowhere like I was before.

  • I’ve left Xanga for months or years at a time, but I’ve never shut down my site. I have, however, deleted all of my posts many, many times.

  • i left for like4 yrs. my computer died…. it was sad
honestly i didn’t have the money or need to get another one, so i didn’t now im just using my boyfriend’s from time to time and thought i would go back to the sites i used to go to for a bit

  • I left but I came back.

  • I have “left” Xanga numerous times. Not by shutting down or anything, but just by not posting. haha I always come back though! Xanga is like a first love, they’ll always have that special spot in your heart.

  • Yes.  This is like the third interation of my return.  Its amazing how much I don’t have to say…

  • Old Xangans never die; they just fade away.

  • yeah i have. I like to start fresh with my creativity. It’ more like a creative rebirth when i restart a new account on any site.
