The Burning House
There is a website that is dedicated to people posting what they would grab if their house was on fire.
Some people post a photo album. Some people post their camera.
Some people post their pets. Some people post their favorite outfit. Here is the link: Link
Fortunately, xanga does not need me to take it out of the house.
If your house was burning, what would you take with you?

My dog, definitely! I’d leave my mother in there though, KACHING $$$$$$$
Probably my birth certificate and my guns.
My fridge. Heat makes me hungry.
Family, of course, our Bibles, and photos.
If it has legs and hands it get itself outta my house.
my daughter. To hell with the rest, I can replace everything else. I’d save my kiddo or I’d die trying.
Assuming that the people inside the house with me could make it out on their own and don’t require me to “take them”, I would grab my son’s blanket and if there was time, my cellphone.
Well I live in a dorm now, if it was burning down I’d salvage my cactus and my laptop.
Oh, and my snuggie.
my dog and cameras
My cutting board.
All the pictures of those boobs from savetheboob campaigns I’ve got stashed away.
@ShimmerBodyCream - lol
@brrraaaiiins - snuggie FTW!
Books, clothes, bottles of lotion, professional photoshoot portraits…
Hmmmmmmm
My matches and lighters. And of course, my fireworks.
My camera gear (though it’s usually always in the car from carrying it out there every day) my externals because it has all of my work on it. My cell and purse. I had to think really hard about this, this past week. I even had to evacuate. It’s hard to think about what’s more important. Weighing the importance of your things vs. the importance of other family members things because their stuff has to fit in your car too. Not to mention the animals and, with me, my siblings. They all must fit too. I left a good chunk of my camera gear behind because I can always replace things. I took what was important to keep up with my business. Laptop, mac mini, two externals, and my camera bag. A tiny box of my grandfather’s WWII medals, a knife, change of clothes, and my purse.
My younger sister packed all kinds of odd things and we had to explain to her she couldn’t take them because they weren’t needed. She kept trying to reason with us, but really a pool noodle? She’s much younger and more materialistic. (Babies of the family seem to lean that way as children.) I hope she eventually learns what’s important and what’s not.
We were lucky our place was unaffected, but if it wasn’t….man…so much to replace and so much we couldn’t because of sentimental value and memories. It’s really a lot harder than it seems. I know if our place had burnt, I’d of had moments of “I wish I had thought to grab that.” I am thankful that isn’t the case.
@brrraaaiiins - Lol snuggie yes!!!!!!!
I would first make sure my family is out safe. I would grab my phone and it’s charger, some clothes and of course my purse where I keep my cash and bank/credit cards.
My dog. She’s my baby!
Of course, my family. Everything else can burn….. And will.
My box of photo albums, and my ring box, a memento of my marriage.
one time I smelled smoke and heard the fire detectors go off, and ran the fuck out of there covering my nose because I couldn’t breathe due to the cloudy smoke clouding the upper half of the home. I didn’t even think twice about taking anything even if it was pre-chosen that I kept in my stuffed animal backpack, because every second is vital and I’m just thinking of surviving at that point.
My doggie
My laptop firstly. It has my world on it – photos, writings, access to the internet. Possibly my purse, since it usually has my wallet in it, and my cell phone if I remembered/knew where to find it. I usually take my purse when I’m leaving so I’d probably grab it out of habit. If I had a pet, I’d save it, but I don’t.
The rest are just things that can be replaced. I’d be sad to lose them but oh well.
Assuming my husband, daughter and dog were able to get out safely, I’d probably grab my laptop because it has so many photos of my family and so much of my history documented on it.
as long as no one needed help out and my cat was out too, i’d take my camera and laptop and ipod. tis all.
Myself.
My children and husband but if they were already out safe then I’d have to say all 3 of my kids’ memory boxes with their first outfits and such in them, and their baby books, my dog and my chinchilla. All my photos are online so I can get them from any computer.
me and my family alive would be enough
This is something that I’ve thought about since I was little. My biggest nightmare (which has kept me up when I was young) was my house burning and not waking up or waking up to a burning house…. I always make sure that a window is accesible to where I am at so I can safely send my son out (firstly) then I would make sure I’ve throw my clarinet, pictures – everything else doesn’t matter …
My wife!
@ShimmerBodyCream - lmao!!
My removable hard drive which I got for that very reason.
That all depends on the time I believed myself to have before it was too late. Chances are, I’d have little to no time if I woke up to it so I’m thinking enough clothing to look presentable and whatever I could grab and throw out the window before the flames cause me to jump out myself. This, of course, assumes that I’m the only one around as if someone else is in the house, the dynamics are vastly different and the 1st thing I grab is my phone to call 911 while I make my way to the other end of the house (if possible) possibly stopping briefly to turn on the shower and soak myself and a couple towels to use the evaporating water as a couple seconds of shield if I should have to barrel through flames. This assumes, of course, that I’m even thinking enough to do this as one does not often think through such things in the moment.
I’d take the ice cream. Everyone loves a good banana split!
family, CDS, my collection of postcards, our pig money boxes, ps3 games +ps 3. ps2 and ps1 games.
money
Kids, husband. cat, and my android phone. In that order.
my computer with all the pics and my file with birth cert. etc..
purse that has all my junk in it…and my car.
@ALovingAdversary - Glad to hear you’re alright.
@Lithium98 - quite alright. ^_^ My youngest brother is volunteering to help clear debris and I plan on photographing the damage tomorrow if my allergies aren’t making me too ill. I’m taking a few of my brother’s friends out (they lost their home, I believe, or part of it) and teaching them some tricks with their camera. My only concern is the hurricane coming. We’re on the windy side and we’ve been told that when it sparks the fire back up to be prepared to leave. >.>
my kitten and if my grandfather needed help getting out, I’d do anything to get him to safety.
My kids, dog and safe.
Hmm . . . Well my kitten. And probably my social security card, because that would be a pain to replace. And my gold/silver/amethyst ring, because even though I bought it and it wasn’t that expensive it means a lot to me. I’m not really sure why . . . I guess it’s just awesome.
My Macbook is old, so I might just leave it.
My dog.
After that, my laptop.
If I was at my parent’s house, then i’d get my cats out. I couldn’t live with myself if I let them die in a fire. (This is assuming my human family members would be able to get themselves out.)
If I was at my school apartment, I’d probably grab my cell phone, which would probably be on me anyways, maybe my laptop. Car keys and wallet would be ideal. But really my main focus would be getting myself and other living creatures out. All that material stuff can be replaced.
My two best beloveds: the Lady and our offspring. There are a few personal items, but those first two take the cake, so to speak. Peace
Assuming that I could even get to it, I would grab my purse.
My dogs, of course, then I’d probably grab my phone and my laptop. They’re the only things I really use in my house anyway.
I’d grab you, Dan.
[[ but no really, i would have been sad to see all go in the flame but if they are all replaceable, so what? family and pets comes first. They would be who I save first even if it meant I was naked. ]]
I love that website! I always think about this question. Photos, journals, my laptop… I think those three things rest at the top. I would probably frantically throw anything I could grab out of the windows at that point.
Other than my family and my cat, I’m not sure I’d take anything else. If I was panicked and needed to get out of my house, I can’t think of anything I would be able to think of or that would be worth a few extra minutes to take with me.
My three cats and my blanket
My cat, and the hard drive containing all the work I’ve done for my project, Legend’s Ghost. I can’t live without either.
my people. nothing else matters.
my three guinea pigs and my drawings.
oh, and my two turtles.
my house was on fire once. i grabbed my brother and my cat and honestly nothing else came to mind. i think it’s one of those things that is so scary when it happens there’s really no telling what you will do.
I’d gank the hard drives from my computer. The puter itself is much too big but since I work with computers I have years of my life and work on the drives. Physical things can all be replaced, but something like that melts and you can’t quite get it back.
Being burnt to death is one of the most painful way to die. Plus people can’t even recognize your body and it’s definitely a close casket funeral. People rather jumped because by mid-air, they will probably go into unconsciousness and won’t feel the impact. The impact will cause an instant death. So many take the quickest and least painful way to die.
My dogs would be first priority. Then after that, my laptop, but if I lost it I wouldn’t be that upset. If one of my dogs died in a fire I don’t know how I could handle it…
My kitties
If I couldnt find them or something, Id try and leave all the doors opened and windows so hopefully they could get out themselves.. I think I would die if they did
They are my babies..
Yes!! I’m agree with you!! Thanks for your sharing and i will drop here if i have time!!
