Equal Rights for Women
An appeals panel ruled against a woman’s right to sunbathe topless on a New Jersey beach. The panel ruled that being topless viotated “the public’s moral sensibilities.”

No. I support equal rights for individuals. In other words, that fact that they have a particular set of reproductive organs should be irrelevant in the eyes of the law.
But yes, I do believe an intrusive government attempting to keep people from leaving their house in whatever fashion they choose to leave their house is pretty egregious.
Oh hell yeah…why shouldn’t I be able to sunbath without a shirt on? As far as I’m concerned, whoever has issues with that should just look the other way.

america is still young. so beliefs like these are fairly radical in some cases. but give it another 20 years or even 15, once the old die off the young will enter and bring forth a new era with new thoughts and newer and as well beliefs, processes and personal freedom.

Everyone and their cousin has at least two nipples. It ain’t that shocking. Women should be able to go “topless” wherever men can go “topless” or else institute a “topless license” cuz there are some moobs I don’t want to see.
What American society is saying… is “Women are just sexual objects. Their boobs are only sexual objects. They serve no function and are only meant to be seen by their husband. Boobs are dirty, but okay if men have them and expose them to the world.” It is about equal rights. It’s also about stopping this insanity that only women can be immodest. That society gets to dictate who sees women’s boobs. (I wonder if strip clubs are against this??)

Can someone explain to me why is it that a women sunbathing topless is a crime but a woman who is breast feeding can whip her titties out anywhere and its perfectly legal? Personally I would rather see titties at the beach instead of while I am trying to eat my dinner. Furthermore, if we are going to be hauling topless women off to jail for moral outrage can they also make a law for 400lbs people in string bikinis, because that morally offends me.
As long as boobs are considered sexual objects, I say no. I support public decency. The first step though, to making boobs acceptable in public would be to stop banishing breast feeding moms to stinky bathrooms to feed their babies. Once people begin to see breasts used for another reason other than sex, then I’d say why not?

Men and women obviously have different anatomical features so there is a certain degree of none-equal rights. This is the reason why in the women’s bathrooms you don’t have urinals, and why they have tampon vending machines in there. There are some things that just can’t be argued to want to be equal with. This is one of them. Women have breasts, men have chests. Plain and simple. Now I am a male feminist, but I am also a realist, in some things, women just cannot ever compete with men. Stuff like mental prowess, no, women I believe are actually better, but strength-wise, penis-wise, lack-of-breasts-wise, yes. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a firm believer of nudity and would consider myself a nudist, but that’s what nudist beaches and the privacy of your home are for. Plus like any good man, I love tits. Butts more, but tits too.

There is a sensible reason for the public mores where it comes to nudity, in all its forms and fashion….. Too many idiots and those with even less sensibility and grace, along with the kids. What you may or may not teach your kids at home, younger children are intensely interested in sexual things and parts, and to call attention to such things narrows their focus away form more vital things for them to learn as youngsters, not to mention the perverts. Sorry, folks, but sad as it is, tha tha thats the way it is, folks!!

Well. I can tell you, in new York it’s been legal to go topless since 1992. Almost NOBODY does it. end of story.

Compared with some of the other rights a person could fight for, fighting for the right to go topless seems pretty stupid.

I dont think it should be allowed.. There ARE seperate beaches where people can go nude.. To go nude everywhere? Hell no, thats wrong.. There are kids, perverts, and I’d rather not see it.. I see enough sluts boobs at concerts thank you very much….

Beyond just sun bathing; I am a firm believer that all women should be allowed to be topless anytime they want. At restaurants, Wal-Mart, definitely sports that involve running.. I would love to see a day when I can walk outside and see women topless mowing their yards, jumping on trampolines or even just jumping rope.
As a matter of fact, I want to start a movement to eliminate all women’s tops. Be proactive!

I think that decency, when it comes to issues like this, should be respected depending on the culture. You won’t catch me wearing a mini skirt in Malaysia, for example. Also–in certain countries, like in Micronesia, women going topless is perfectly normal–except it is very taboo to show anything above their knee. ^_^
..I think it is important to respect cultural boundaries concerning sexual comfort/decency in clothing. For all the talk about a woman being able to go around topless like a man in Western culture..I still think it would be wrong and equivalent to a cheap porn magazine. I wouldn’t want my children seeing that, because of what it means in our culture. You know?

I think she should be allowed too…Europeans have been doing it for years but then again they have a much healthier attitude toward sex then we do. Adam and Eve were created naked and part of their sin was putting on clothes.

Ptown has tons of raves, and I go with friends sometimes and see girls that are practically topless. But they have their nipples covered with tape and or pasties, so no one cares. @written_conversations - Fair enough comment. I can’t imagine the push to allow women to go topless won’t succeed if it is pushed to the limit on appeal, as it probably will be.
However, aren’t there more important battles women can fight? How about equality in the workplace, human trafficking, wages, or abortion — which is under the worst threat in our country since Roe V Wade historic victory. These are battles that matter to the majority, while going topless may seem important in “principal,” in practice it will matter to only a handful..

I agree with this ruling. Wearing a swimming suit is expected, it’s a cultural norm.
I don’t know why people think others want to see their naked body, but they don’t. I don’t know why some women don’t understand that breasts have been hypersexualized by the media and because of that you don’t show a naked breast off in public. Even showing too much cleavage will get you a ticket in some areas.
I am glad that women can’t walk around topless because then every whore in America would do it! Honestly no one wants to see that crap! Everyone should keep their clothes on and have some self respect and have respect for others in this world! I will not respect and woman who walks around exposing herself! It is disgusting!
