  • Studying Abroad

I was just reading an article about how more students are taking the opportunity to travel around the World.  Here is the link:  Link

I must admit that I wished I had traveled more when I was young.  I had opportunities when I was in the military but I wanted to focus on college.  I had a few opportunities with school but I had a family, school and a full time job.

I always encourage people to take the opportunities to travel before they start their family.

What country do you most want to visit?

  • I have no desire to go to another country. If I had to pick one, it’d be russia cause I heard they had the biggest tittays

  • I always wanted to too. I think I’d want to visit Spain, mostly so I could practice my Spanish. But just for visiting purposes? Japan.

  • I want to visit America. But not the America I live in, I want to visit that idealized America middle class white conservatives are always pining on about.

  • United States of America, already there, never mind.

  • None. I have absolutely no interest in traveling anywhere.

  • I have a list of places to see… but I think I have better odds of getting the family before the traveling… so I’ll stick w/ the progeny planning thing.

  • Of the countries where I can hold my own with their language: English…I’m not very fluent in anything else

Of the countries where I hope to hold my own with their language: Italy or Spain
I really want to travel the world but I don’t want to be the American who doesn’t know the language so this might take me a while.

  • Visit? France.
    Study abroad? Singapore.

  • I’d love to study in Germany.

  • Ireland! I’m going in January.

  • I visited Norway this summer, I’d love to return as a student to study there. I’d also love to study physical therapy in Australia!

  • That’s why I’m traveling a lot now while I still have the somewhat available time!

  • new zealand, japan, peru, spain

  • I studied in the Czech Republic and LOVED it. I’d love to live there, if I get such an opportunity. I’ve also seen Austria and Germany. I’d love to visit Serbia (my family is from there), Ireland, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Croatia, South Korea… basically, I’d love to see any country. lol

  • The only part of abroad you study is their boobs Dan,who are you kidding….. Couldn’t resist that one man!

  • Singapore, again, but 3 straight months.

  • I’ve wanted to go to france since I was young. In fact want to live there for a year (my dream)

  • I don’t wanna study abroad, I wanna study many.

  • China, virtually any country with plenty of ancient sites with ruins one can visit, Mongolia (always kinda had this thought of how much of a learning experience it would be to live like a Midieval steppe nomad for a month)… What can I say?  Combine history, cultural experience, and the right people to experience it with and I’d love even the trying moments.

  • England. Which I’m seriously considering if I can get the money… (that’s a whole nother story :( )

There is also a summer term offered for studying in Hawaii next year that I would LOVE to do.

  • Disneyland ! I want to meet Mickey Mouse in person. I’m saving my money for it…

  • I had the chance to live in South Korea for a year(as a teacher)…it was awesome…………I want to see the whole world so I want to visit so many places!

  • Finland-Helsinki
    Netherlands-Amsterdam
Russia-St.Petersburg/Moscow/maybe take the trans siberian train
Sweden-Stockholm(although I have been to copenhagen and the Scandinavian cities tend to look the same)
    Norway-the countryside!
France-Paris of course, as well as Menton and Nice
Italy- my family lives there in the south…
    Czech Republic- Prague
    England-Manchester

yeahhhh i have a thing for going everywhere lol and I’m actually doing 3 semesters abroad in uni to 3 different places+my masters somewhere else. So far I’ve narrowed it down to England, Netherlands, Finland and France.

  • I would love, love, love to go to India someday.

  • i’m studying abroad in canada right now, but i want to go to the netherlands, singapore, or uk next!!

  • Philippines,  Malaysia, Indonesia,  China,  Germany (more of Spain),  Peru,  Brazil,  Thailand,  Australia,  New Zealand,  Norway,  Malta,  Switzerland and many more countries.

    Fill the passport with stamps.

Mexico and United States (would like to spend more than two weeks in each country)

  • Spain, France, Cuba, Italy, Thailand, Laos…

  • I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland and Finland

  • Too many places..

  • New Zealand. Because of the beautiful scenery, and  the almost unpolluted environment.

  • I am in the United Kingdom. It is fun stuff.

  • How about a continent? Europe!!!!

I want to start with a Guinness in Ireland and eat my way through, Germany & France to get to Italy where my true dining destination will be then I’ll take a cruise on the Med to Spain. I’ll need 6 weeks minimum. I have a list of things I’d love to see and I’d want to take the whole family or at least the younger kids.

This will never happen, but I like to dream…. :)

  • Germany, then the Czech Republic, then Japan, then Australia/New Zealand…then most of Europe…then the rest of Asia…then the Middle East…then Africa…then India…then South America.

I may have an opportunity to do the ‘most of Europe’ one this summer.  :D

  • I have been to every country I ever wanted to be. Oh wait there are two that I want to go too…The Ukraine and The Philipines but I probably will never get to either one because of my health, finances and the factt that they are both politically unstable ( a major facror in my decison not to go).

  • To all those who want to travel I would strongly recommend staying in Youth Hostels….they are very cheap, very clean, very nice and meeting all the other citizens of the world from a lot of different places is a great experiences. You can look up The North American Youth Hostel Association on google. And don’t let the word “Youth” fool you because there are no age limits.

  • @Cassie0722 - I have been to Ireland…Dublin to be specific….it was a lot of fun and welll worth the trip. You should just go someday!

  • I wish I had more financial stability to go study abroad for a semester or a year. But, I still compromise, and I think all college students should try to find a way to study abroad. Last winter, I went on a study abroad program to Antarctica, and I’m also doing a study abroad program in Australia this summer.

The next place I really want to visit next is Cape Town, Tanzania, and Christchurch.

And I really encourage college students to NOT study abroad in England. Really. I say take a challenge and go somewhere that doesn’t speak your native language.

  • Absolutely – travel when you’ve got time and “youthfulness”. I’d love to spend indefinite time in the UK.

  • I’m not adventurous but my sister who has no money and is younger then I am has been a world traveler and she stays in hostels like a college kid -she goes somewhere every year since high school and she graduated in 1970.

what I’m trying to say is I dont’ travel and make up reasons why I don’t.

  • I encouraged my bro to do study abroad and let’s just say it didn’t end well. So I no longer support studying abroad for anyone I care about. If I travel again I’d prefer to see more America instead of going to some other country. There’s almost an unlimited amount worth seeing right here.

  • I was lucky enough to do a lot of travelling abroad as a child/young adult. While it was a wonderful experience, I don’t plan to go abroad much anymore now that I’m an adult. I can’t say that I fell in love with any of the countries that I visited while abroad although it was nice to learn about their cultures. Currently I’ve been focusing my efforts on travelling within the United States. This summer I took a train from Chicago all the way down to the Grand Canyon, with a few stops along the way. It was amazing and way better than any experience I had while abroad! I also like supporting U.S. business and tourism during these tough economic times.

Either way, I encourage people to travel!

  • I studied abroad and it was awesome, but I found out if I didn’t go through my school and applied directly to the other school, I would have saved $4k. sucks.

I went to Taiwan and loved it, I would love to go to another Asian country – preferably China!

  • I plan to study in America, in fact. I currently live in Australia.

  • I think the world is smaller now than when we were younger, with the internet and ability to reach out to others around the globe (plus, sleeping on their couch would be free!)  I’d love to go back to England.  But I want to visit Scotland and Wales since I haven’t been there before.  What about you, Dan?

  • hmmm…    been to japan, australia, france, czech, poland, russia, england, ireland, saudi…   i think, i want to visit china…   or korea…

  • South America… maybe Brazil

  • I’d love to visit Scotland since that is where my family came from.

  • Every year of college since I was 17 years old, I have been saying this is the year that I am going to travel abroad. It never happens, but I am really hoping that one day I really will. The country I want to see the most is France so I can see Versailles, the Eifel Tower, the Moulin Rouge, the Louvre, etc.

  • Having traveled abroad a couple of dozen of times (mostly Europe, Middle East and South America), I have found the more I travel, the more I want to travel.  I would love to go back to Italy and France and would like to add Switerland, Austria and Greece to the list.

  • I want to visit England to take in that culture. I also want to visit Japan, Vietnam and Korea to compare and see how different they are to each other. Plus, I wanna go back to Hong Kong again.

  • I think I would go to the country side of Ireland.  See the real people, not those stuffed in a city box as I am where I live.  If not Ireland then stay in America and visit the Appalachian Mountain people and learn of my heradity.  From my understanding there are some areas and older people there that still believe a knife under the bed “cuts the pain”.  This is the elderly, of course, but there is where the true color lies.

  • Hoping to go abroad to Israel (Arava Institute) Spring ’13. I’d like to do more relief work in Haiti this summer….and one day, I hope to visit Ireland.

  • I want to go to Scotland and see the haunted castles, then travel to England for literature studies.

  • If I ever decide to go to college, I’d love to do it in a foreign country like China or some other country around China, like Korea, or Hong Kong or Philippines.

  • I live in Germany, but I would like to visit Japan very much. My husband and I are planning a trip for sometime next year or the following year. ^_^

  • I HATE studying!  I HATE school!  I HATE college!

  • South America.  If more young people from all countries had the opportunity to travel, especially as exchange students there might eventually be less conflict in the world.

  • Thailand, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Scandinavia, Australia, Cuba, Malta, Ireland, China, Vietnam.

I also badly want to visit Burma, however I refuse to give my tourist dollars to the oppressive Burmese military junta and will not visit the country until the SPDC is removed from power or they permit and honor free and fair democratic elections.

  • From ages 12-14 years I lived in Saudi Arabia. During that two year period I traveled to Egypt, Thailand, Bahrain, Spain, and Dubai. Since then I’ve also traveled to Mexico, England and Scotland. I’m now 25. When I start a family (which will be very, very soon) I will have no regrets as far as travel is concerned.

  • I would want to travel to Cali or Paris because they have the best best styles I’ve ever seen.I just love thier styles!! = )

  • But also I live in L.A.!!! CALI so mostly I would want to go paris…

  • england and ireland

  • I want to go back to England, Wales, and Ireland. England the first time round was courtesy of the military and Ireland was for classes in college. Wales was a quick trip by train.

  • i want to visit tibet and uyghur and thailand, italy spain greece

  • I’ve always wanted to go to Spain.

  • I’m going to study abroad in Germany from fall 2013 to spring 2014.

    @jasonwl - Lol

  • Japan. And Australia again. I went with my friends back in high school. This summer I’m going to Hawaii with my friends. :D

  • Japan, definitely. Oh, and many of the South American countries that speak Spanish. And Spain.

  • If I had to choose, it’d be Japan. I wanted to to go France when I was younger but that is no longer so desirable. It’s a stretch right now cause I’m a student but I’m not going to have children nor get married nor buy a house so I’ll have enough money to get to Japan eventually.

  • Korea, Thailand, Japan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Taiwan… yeah pretty much all the Asian countries and then some

  • @ClimbUpTreesToLookForFish - “Unpolluted environment” Hahaha. You’ve been watching too many tourism video, it’s just as bad as everyone else. ;)

  • Israel, study abroad! :D

  • As many as possible.

  • Japan, Korea(again), New Zealand, lot’s of places. honestly though, i’d rather start the family first. not the having kids bit but the having a travel partner bit.
