  • Is Xanga A Waste of Time?

On the one hand, people get to make friendships and share their feelings.

But I also notice that some people spend a great deal of time on xanga.  I guess some of that could be considered idle time.  I imagine some people are on xanga instead of working.

Is xanga a waste of time?

  • Occasionally I’ll pulse before a match, but that’s as far as it goes for being on xanga at work.

  • yes, but time well wasted.

  • well yeah, but who cares lol

  • I use xanga to get out thoughts and feelings I can’t regularly share.
    So, not for me.

  • Proud Xanga addict right here. Most of my day is spent here.

  • It is far better than watching TV

  • Well, it depends on the person. Well personally it can be… it’s distracting but when i work I don’t have time usually in that day and then I’m too tired to even log on… There is no xanga so blackberry so so xanga when I’m out and about…

  • Sadly …. yeah. Sometimes.

  • Not for me… but I’m not in the whole “lets talk about abortion and sex, because we’re bored” crowd. So whatevs.

  • Just like any social network, I’m sure many of us has wasted time on here.  Definitely not all there is to it though.

  • Yes, an enormous waste of time.

  • For me,yes, very much so.It’s why I don’t mess with it much.I was kidding myself thinking I’d have time to mess with commonsenseplace.Just don’t have the time or want to anymore.Maybe someday.

  • I just come here when I don’t have anything else to do lol

  • I like talkin’ to peeps ‘n reading about them! But it’s also good for killin’ time when you’re at work n’ have nothing to do

  • Indeed it can be, I do work and hang out with IRL friends though… I have a droid phone it is my direct route to xanga when I’m at work, it’s an addiction, don’t judge. LOL!

  • I discovered many years ago that time is one of the more irelevent concepts of man! We pace ourselves to the movement of the planets and make up increments like seconds, minutes, hours, days, and then make a plan over these extensions to accomplish something that justifies our own existence. SO that being my concept that time is nothing, how can I waste nothing?
Here is another thought on it I like! read on………………….

“Nothing in the universe can travel faster than light, at 186,000 miles per second. But light will travel more slowly when it goes through the gravity of a star. As a result, it will also slow down the time. If you hold a clock while travelling fast, your clock will move slower than a clock that is stationary. The Buddha discovered this reality more than 2,500 years ago. The Buddha maintained that time does not exist. The past and future are just illusions. When you watch a movie, you see moving pictures. But in fact, you are seeing a succession of still pictures, totaling 24-26 pictures per second. We think that time moves like the flow of water. This is all illusion. We think that we see light from a candle. In fact, the light comes into being and passes out, only to come into being and pass out again. This happens so fast that we see only the light and don’t see the darkness after the light passes out.”

To be more precise, time exists only in the present. The past can be the future and the future can be the past, depending on relativity. Anybody who has perfected meditation can see the present state clearly and thoroughly, which is the secret of our universe.”

  • Nah, I’ve made good friends here. I met my wife here. I can hardly call that a waste of my time.

  • Very much so, but it’s my bible:]

  • It certainly CAN be. But not always.

  • No way! I see Xanga as a healthy way to vent thoughts/feelings.

  • It can be, but everything can be a waste of time.

  • sometimes i feel like i do’nt nkow what i’m doing on here, but going through some of the articles is kind of worth the time. damn uploading the page. the lag i tell you! the lag!

  • for me no…even tho it says I’m online…I’s logged in but probably doing something else on another site…been known to have 6 or 7 sites open at once…lol…I do read my subscriptions and I post most of the time…if I get a email saying something is going on then I will pop over and see what is what…smile

  • Isn’t most of the internet a “waste of time?”

  • If I thought Xanga was a waste of time, I wouldn’t still be here. I’ve been off and on Xanga over the last 11 to 12 years. For one reason or another, I have always been able to come back and enjoy what Xanga has to offer without all the changes I’m going through with Facebook.

    Waste of time? Never.

  • It just like Facebook,  Twitter,  Myspace,  Google+ people can wasted a lot of time.

  • I like keeping in touch with friends, some are “old friends” by now, I’ve been on Xanga so long, and I do like journaling and chronicling, mostly for myself, but I’m not on here near as much as I used to be.  I do think it’s worthwhile for my own uses.

  • I just read something about online addictions lately…you are at risk if you spend moe than 3 hours online. But I wouldn’t see it so strictly. I think xanga CAN be addictive though.

  • no. not for me it’s not. i like to come here to vent whatever’s on my mind and clear my head… and read your entries. :)

  • at first every one was on xanga then everyone went to myspace then to facebook. Even though facebook where all the attention is xanga is xanga and always will. Myspace is dead because all the spamers and fake bots like yahoo chat rooms. Myspace is dead for that reason. Facebook is like xanga because its simple and easy. answer this, is watching tv a waste of time, is playing video games a waste of time.everything we do thats not work related is a waste of time.people complain cause there bored  and find new things to do.Can every one eat ice cream every day and enjoy it? No one will enjoy being on facebook forever.People either find new websites or return from point a, xanga. I enjoyed xanga and left only cause every one went to myspace, They everyone left and went to facebook.Well All i did is went back to myspace cause I didnt like facebook, and it was dead as a door nob and full of Bots.So I came back to xanga after 6 years, Im back and hoping to make new friends hear and have something to come home to rather followers like facebook and the lovely drama.

  • Nah, It’s not a waste of time.

It’s a place where everyone can get their feelings out, and FEEL BETTER!

As far as work goes, I am at work now, HOWEVER, I am allowed to be.

    :)

  • You just wasted my time.

  • It can be, if you let it.

  • Xanga is a leisure activity. It’s okay for leisure activities to be time wasters.

  • I don’t have time for xanga.

I have a new sleeping patter, I’m knocked out by 8 pm, wake up around 2 am. I have been going over chess games from tournaments from 1939. Those chess players played very good, keep in mind chess players back then had no computer assistance. Nowadays kids can become grandmasters thanks to computers.

I have also been playing pokemon pearl on ds. Ghost pokemon can keep leveling up, and, 8000 experience points are needed, leveling up does not change this. For example, I have a mismagius at level 61 whose experience points to hop on over to level 62 is only 7000. This, compared to the other pokemin who break 9000 by level 55!

Anyhow, it looks like shit out today. I want to buy new pants, go to the dentist, but money is always an issue. It turns out I have to pay for rent and food, I did not move afterall. Yeah, I do not have a social life, I am too different for that. So I write here, perhaps someone like me is out there, over the rainbow.

I masterbated not too long ago, I do so everyday, except, I was pure naked for today’s stimulating event. The urge was that great. My money goes to a mexican restaurant, a mexican owned herbalife, and a mexican grocery, all here on this white town. Mexican food is fucking delicious, peace out fairies.

  • Strictly speaking, it is. But there are good people here that make it worth the leisure time.

  • If I thought Xanga was a waste of time, I wouldn’t be here to begin with. I don’t use Xanga when I’m working either. But then, the computers I have at work are not equiped with the kind of Internet service most businesses seem to have.

  • time?  what time?

  • No!  I am practically a shut in and it gives me a view of the outside world, sometimes warped, but mostly not. Defintely more accurate than any of the news stations, “The Wives of Beverly Hills”, or Dragnet reruns.

  • That’s the conclusion I’ve come to.  Seemed like there was potential, but it hasn’t panned out for me.

  • nope) IMHO it’s a wonderful place where ppl can express the world inside them. That’s great)

  • Well considering I’m on Xanga when I’m procrastinating, and 90% of my time is spent procrastinating…………

  • I dont think Xanga is a wot. It is a great place to interact, fun and educational. I am grateful to be part of it.

  • No more of (and most likely less than) a waste of time than Facebook, WoW (or any video game), or YouTube. People just pick their poison. Mine is definitely YouTube :)

  • Not for me. I have depression, GAD, and panic attacks so my blog revolves around that. The people who read me and those that I read are going through something of the same thing so it’s almost a support network. It feels good to know that I’m not alone in this and read how some people overcome the same issues I have

  • Aren’t you wasting yours already?

  • I’ve learned so much on Xanga, and because of Xanga, I really have it to thank for a career turn. A waste? Not really. Everything in moderation.

  • its as much as a waste of time as other social networking websites, but they’re fun :)

  • I guess it depends…  :)

  • Anything can be a waste of time if you let it.

  • No, Xanga is not a waste of time.
    But it is a timesuck.
    There’s a difference.

  • yes, but i prefer xanga over facebook or any other social website

  • Only if you think it is.  People will spend their time as they like to some this would be a waste of time but i think facebook is worse.  I can’t seem to stop “checking” facebook.  And it’s not like anything is going on there.  I think ti’s just some obsessive compulsive thing that you acquire once joining.

  • Well, I can’t get on Xanga while I’m at work so if I’m wasting any time here it’s my own time, lol. But I don’t think it’s a waste of time. I’ve met some great people and had some great conversations here. :)

  • It’s time well spent :)

  • Beats playing Farmville.

  • It’s a multi-functional medium that works for many people. Personally, I consider Xanga as an alternative sanctuary.

  • people say time is money

and the question is whether if its well spent

    never had buyers remorse.

  • No…it is therapeutic and written record of our lives that we are writing for other people other than ourselves and for me it is a way of overcoming the isolation that comes along with my illness and that is very important to me. Good Night.

  •          Xanga, unlike most blog sites that I had used in the past and read, Xanga has fun and interestung blogs. I never get bored on Xanga!

  • I don´t think sooo! Life is not working and / or study.

If you think it’s a waste of time, you think like a capitalist: time is money … At least I stopped thinking that humans are machines …

  • Facebook is a waste of time compared to Xanga… at least Xanga is blogging versus FB is just pictures and “status updates” of nonsensical crap.

  • Nope. Eyes of the world thru others.

  • No, it isn’t. If you use it carefully. I only subscribe to a few people, and keep up with their subscriptions, daily. I’m particular about who’s blog I’m going to waste my time reading, haha.
