  • Occupiers Want Homeless People to Stop Free Loafing

The 99%ers want the homeless to stop free loafing.

The 99%ers are protesting the elite on Wall Street because they do not want to share their money with the poor and disadvantaged.

So a bunch of homeless people went and tried to join their movement.  But the 99%ers were tired of the homeless people eating their food.

One volunteer said the homeless people “do not pull their weight.”

Another said, “If you’re going to come here and get our food, bedding and clothing, have books and medical supplies for no charge, they need to give back.  There’s a lot of takers here and they feel entitled.”  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think the homeless are entitled to get food for nothing?

  • you don’t work, you don’t eat. ain’t nothin’ free.

  • Yet another black eye for the OWS catastrophe.

  • Um, they’re homeless, they don’t have anything to give…

  • That’s pretty funny. A sign, perhaps, that this movement is more of a fad than a protest.

  • and this is hilarious

  • Jesus was a homeless socialist who didn’t charge for miracles or invest in Wall Street. He would have never have participated in the political process except to denounce those Conservatives who do…

    What was your question again?

  • No, let them starve. They’re not really humans anyway.

  • Well as a socialist I believe it is the governments job to take care of the people. So I do think they deserve food but obviously socialism isn’t as easy as it sounds. Its funny & hypocritical that the “99%” don’t want to share the food though. ;P

  • I needed some lulz. This story gave it to me.

  • If they want free food they should go to college.  There’s so much free food at the student groups there that one doesn’t need to look for food.

  • yeah really, why be altruistic and generous when you can be petty and look out for your own interests only. Really.

  • Labor camps.  We can stop trashing out civilization.

Just more worthless entitled people feeling entitled.  They aren’t thankful for their fill, worthless people.  I’m referring to the 99ers that I’m trying to make violent.

  • if there were any leaders there, they would be embracing as many gutter hearts as possible.  We don’t have any leaders.

  • missing the point again. 99%ers are protesting many things but largely that those who are pulling their weight are getting the shaft. if you worked on Wall Street you would have seen people who worked hard every day lose their jobs to outsourcing and seen the big wigs get multi-million bonus increases for having orchestrated the move. you would have learned outsourcing turned out to be unprofitable/more expensive and watched that little bit of information get buried in matrixing to make it look good for investors. you would have learned Lehman Brothers was in the red for years but Citibank loaned the firm with “special loans” up to $37 billion a year so Lehman could post the loans as assets on their quarterly reports then return the money to Citibank after the reports had been scrutinized and the money in the bank was confirmed. you would know that after Lehman went under and hard working people who pulled their weight lost their jobs, their retirement investments not to mention their dignity while Lehman’s CEO and executive board kept their sprawling mansions, yachts and their money.

there is a great irony that only 10 years ago a republican President, George W. Bush stood at ground zero with his arm around a firefighter, praised first responders and swore he would get Bin Laden but later said getting Bin Laden wasn’t a concern. now we have a President who did get Bin Laden and a republican party that is actively pushing for the elimination of the jobs of firefighters and police. look at Topeka, Kansas. Topeka is perhaps another ground zero of things to come. because of budget cuts they have put a halt on prosecuting spousal abuse and battery cases. if a man is arrested for beating his wife the police have to let him go because he can not be held for a court date. 3 weeks ago there was already a case of the same man being arrested 3 times for beating his spouse and released 3 times.

so i’m laughing at all the comments that are laughing while Rome burns.

  • the thing is Dan, you’re a good guy. you work hard. you’ve overcome things in your life but here’s the thing. shortly before Perry jumped into the race you believed he was going to be the one to go all the way. i said wait until his record in Texas is scrutinized nationally, in other words wait until he’s vetted. he came out and jumped ahead of the pack with over 40% of likely primary voters. today’s poll shows him behind even Gingrich. i think the poll showed Perry with 6%. if you’re getting your talking points from FOX entertainment news you are not getting factual information.

  • Does that guy’s sign say “we are white or black?” LOL what about the other races?

  • O and the 99% isn’t about “freeloading”. So why compare the homeless who are freeloading, to these people asking to cancel out corporate greed? It’s not ironic. Even the 99% know what the difference is between freeloading and getting what they deserve. Which says something about them. They’re not asking for free shit. They’re asking for what they deserve.

  • No, the 99% is protesting Wall Street STEALING money with the laws they pass through lobbying, not that they don’t “share” with us.

  • dam thats an eye-opener. nothings free. play ya part.

  • like these people work for their food… they get it all for free too.

  • @TheSutraDude - [if you're getting your talking points from FOX entertainment news you are not getting factual information.]

    BINGO!!

  • No one is entitled to anything. Anyway, so what?

  • I hope they starve

  • no one is special.  everyone ought to work if they can.

  • @FallingSafely - we are white collar… it means upper class and is supposed to imply being a ward worker.

  • your citation is the equivalent of the National Enquirer.  Very impressive, Theo.  Interesting that not one person has questioned the authenticity of this link source.

  • @lenybobsyouruncle - ooo that makes much more sense. White collar… well yea I know what that is. I just obviously didn’t think of it.

  • The Homeless should create another group 99.9 %.

  • I’m on to you. You own a major corporation don’t you?

  • Occupy Wall Street is nothing but a party of spoiled kids who are pretending to be angry about social injustice. The reality is that they don’t give a flying fuck about the homeless or the other “victims” of Wall Street’s so-called atrocities. They just want to smoke their weed, do their silly chants, and disturb the peace with their goddamn drum circles. If these assholes are representing the labor pool in this country then no wonder companies are outsourcing. I say bring in the National Guard to spray the fuckers with bullets and inspire another Neil Young song.

  • If This was a Cheap Genre Fiction Movie

It would End something along the Lines of Piranah

With the Homeless People Eating Everyone And Then Pirating The WallStreet Skyscrapers

To Europe To Besiege The Inner City of London

Allah Akbar Monty Python! IN 3d!~

  • I’m just waiting to pay an oxygen tax.  We have to pay for water, food and shelter… once they figure out how to tax oxygen we’re all going to suffocate!

  • Well. I don’t know how I feel about the Occupy movement. But I went to Occupy L.A., and I have to say I was somewhat let down about the movement… it wasn’t as organized and cohesive as I was expecting. Actually, I think the whole thing reminded me of Coachella + angry signs. I have no idea when the movement will die down, when protestors will be able to say “mission accomplished” and go home…

In any case, all the food I saw Occupiers eating was donated. I recall someone getting into an argument with another person passing out pizza, refusing to let the man have a slice. The man said he hadn’t eaten in several days, but the person with pizza said there was a limit on how much food a person could get and that limit is determined by whether a person has earned it or not.
It exemplified the point made in this entry, however, I don’t believe the majority of Occupiers are upset over Wall Street fat cats “not sharing” their wealth. I’d hope that the movement is composed of young people tired of bailouts, tired of a stagnant economy, and tired of a wealthy 1% having an economic stranglehold over both local and international politics. I can respect the idea of people my age going out and expressing anger and disappointment about having to bear the brunt of this recession and wanting those responsible for it to, well, take responsibility.
In six months, I don’t know how I’m going to afford going to a university. In two years, I don’t know if my degree will be worth anything after having potentially spent thousands on student loans. In ten years, I don’t know if I’ll be able to pay basic living expenses on a meager salary because I didn’t play dirty and cash grabbed wherever I could on Wall Street. The future is uncertain, and that’s something that needs to change.

  •  I said my opinion on homelessness quite a few times. I think it is terrible to not give a person at least food and shelter in countries like the U.S. and to look down on them. Who knows what they’ve been through…being homeless is awful. (I think it is terrible that there is so little “fair trade” an not many people helping poorer countries too, but when it’s so close this makes the selfishness more blatant.)  I do believe that hard work should be correlating with a higher life standard though.

While I agree with godlesslieberal…it makes me sad. Like so many things. But it’s not like I didn’t know that most people are assholes.

And no, it does not stop me from basiclly supporting this. That would be very stupid. There are people who think differently too. (ME!). Your first two sentences are factually wrong btw. *rolls eyes*

  • @DivaJyoti -
RollingStone had a good article about OWS online yesterday; “Wall Street isn’t winning … they’re cheating!”

  • Okay, so first you suggest that the Occupy movement are freeloaders who won’t pull their weight, and now you’re mocking them for taking a stand against people who REALLY ARE freeloaders and who REALLY WON’T pull their own weight. You’re just looking for a reason to criticize this movement. Not once have you fairly addressed the inequalities in America today which are partly the cause of the protest, or tried to see where the occupiers are coming from. I may not agree with the Tea Party, but I certainly can sympathize with their frustration with Big Government. If challenging the problems in your society and participating in politics is a **just a fad**, I think we could use a few more fads in the good ol’ U S of A.

  • According to Ayn Rand, this movement are by parasites.

I am sad we live in a world full of disease, malice. I have no solutions.

I don’t like my grandmother’s personality, she likes to critisize constantly. I feel that godlessliberal is controlling with veggieasiangirl. Does Aloevera really clean your system? How important is it to eat your fruits and veggies? Water? Meat? Exercise? I feel in the dark about everything.

All these things about bad economy makes me feel sad. How bad can it be I shower weekly. Is it true that if my penis was larger I would have more confidence? Shouldn’t college be free. I saw this black chik who looked like a chipmunk. I believe I have seen plenty of black women who look like squirrels, it’s so cute. Sometimes I see beautiful spanish women with these short average guys, what’s up with that. How can I start a corporation? Do I have to be white?

What can I do to create more jobs for americans? I know nothing. If coke is so bad for us, why is it legal to drink it? If I don’t lose my virginity in say, the nexr five years will I become like ophelia? Why can’t sex be as simple as ” hi I am horny, do you want to have sex?”

Is it true you have to be a shark to succeed in business. Good bye, I am getting sleepy.

P.s. Ghetto people who come across as uneducated need to seriously pick up a book.

  • And I hear that the homeless are complaining, saying they’d have a perfectly nice park if it weren’t for the dirty freeloaders who showed up about a month ago.

  • Well as a socialist. I hope they starve in soon!

  • I think that people protesting against those who intentionally created and continue create financial crisis in the World not against elite.

  • @TheSutraDude - I knew there was a reason I liked you.

  • it is sad that you are not actually making an attempt to understand what’s going on. if anything, this is proof that the people protesting are NOT equal to freeloaders, nor is their cause “we just want free shit.” i would also question your sources, but what’s the point? it really doesn’t actually seem likely you’ll try to understand, because you are one of the lucky ones who landed a stable enough job to support your family, and were not laid off when the economy went sour. and i can’t help but feel insulted that the apparent reason you think my dad has been unemployed for 3? 4? 5? years is because he is a lazy free loader. :( whatever.

  • Seems ridiculous to argue decency, self-respect, earning their keep with people who choose to free-load off of working people.  It’d be like arguing with a pig about keeping his wallow clean.

  • WHY IS THIS The 1% Movement ON THE FRONT PAGE FOUR TIMES?  IT’S JUST RIDICULOUS.

  • Who knew OWS wasn’t a hotel? All this time I was confused!! Thanks for clearing that up.

  • @FallingSafely - It says “We are white collar”

  • homeless people dont ave money so how kan they give wot they need thro they could help as in cook or do  soemthn to help i was homeless for 3 years and i did odd jobs for   food

the gioverment and maerica as gone to pot

  • really?  you’re quoting the daily news?  how accurate is this article?  i don’t think anyone should believe anything the press says unless the journalist is spending every day down there.  most likely, he caught a few people being rude to the chronically homeless.

  • @DivaJyoti - I think the story is greatly twisted here and dropped off a cliff at NYDT. Neither are really thought provoking, both sensationalize the obvious facet of life no matter where you go: Some people have no manners.

  • Clearly you’re still missing the point, Dan. Occupy is about ending the methods in which certain individuals and organizations have stolen from those who are working to make themselves richer, about the corporate corruption of government allowing this, and the growing problem of having a government that is less for the people every day. It has nothing to do with “they won’t share.” Hell, most people in the movement that I’ve met are actually okay with there being an ultra-rich class…so long as they do so without tapping into OUR tax dollars to get there and so long as they are not allowed to out-voice the rest of us in OUR government.

The idea that we want people to “share,” as propagated by Fox News (which also labels us as “demonic tree-hugging hippies”), is nothing short of laughable. When complaints are brought up of people pilfering food without doing anything, which we’ve had happen at our local movement, it was of individuals coming up, being told what we’re about and what we stand for, taking the food that those among us worked to provide to the group, and then essentially thumbing their noses as they walk the other way. “Doing your part” here could be simply sitting down and discussing what you believe about the whole situation…and, at least in our group, we would’ve welcomed that person with open arms.

  • They might be homeless for other reasons than laziness… like they were laid off and can’t find a job…

  • I am the 60th commenter and for sure it is a PR trap if any rich person is seen not giving to a deserving person.

Yeah the anti Occupy people may infiltrate the movement and try to agitate using violence,

the anti Occupy people can try to point out that they don’t share food (Los Angeles Occupy movement had to limit hot food and other food sharing from “freeloaders”

So far no paid anti Occupy agitators have not been caught being paid by Faux news, faux news folks have been jeered in New York.

Theo (anti poor Christian because of his slanted posts) Dan will be judged for being drama queen for xanga

  • If you are following any of the mainstream media, you are not getting any of the facts straight. It’s what the media does… spin to fit the party they support. I have done my own research on this movement… I find most of them are misguided. If they are truly this hypocritical and are turning away the homeless… It just shows that they to are selfish and not what they claim to be, but that is the vast majority of all groups out there. Always an agenda, good, bad, or indifferent. There is good and bad in everything. They could trade food for a job that the homeless person could do. Fairtrade, isn’t that what they are trying to get at. Why not offer it up then rather than turn away people…

If they want to portray an image of being fair an just and want to protest wallstreet and want fairtrade to be fair, shouldn’t they embody fairness and and support trade.

The funny thing is, not all homeless are freeloaders, once again a false sentiment. that would be like saying all women are bad drivers and all men are abusive… generalization.

Oh well it is all a matter of opinion. I think they should be protesting a government overhaul and corporate greed rather than wallstreet, as wallstreet is just a tool and not the main problem.

Well guys enjoy the argument :)

  • I think that the homeless people maybe see this as their opportunity to bank on the big hearts of the “99%ers.” Obviously the protesters are genuine people, otherwise they wouldn’t be there. The homeless might think “hey, these people will be good to me. Now’s my chance to get what I can out of them.” So in a way, yes I think that they are acting like they are entitled.

  • @SKANLYN - Hey, as long as you’re standing well within the line of fire, I’m all for it. Put your money where your mouth is, punk.

  • I was just wondering yesterday whether homeless people would begin to flock to the OWS, it only makes sense. I hope the response presented in this article is not the general response, and only of one person. If so, that’s not surprising, you can find hypocrites in any crowd. But if this is a more widely held view, then the movement is certainly bunk. I guess the best way to find out is get there and talk to the people.

  • Every human being is entitled to eat.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - exactly what i was gonna say!

  • @TheSutraDude - You’re the first person protesting that I’ve heard complain about the Lehman-Citibank relationship. The protest is different for every person. For me, it’s just to have fun protesting.

  • Half the people I hear protesting aren’t even talking about the 99%. Part of the problem with OWS is that there are about as many points of view as there are protesters. It’s a really muddled protest, it’s hard to tell what’s actually being argued about. Anyway, this post oversimplifies the issue to the point where it’s basically a false representation. So why bother arguing it? You’re right dude, if this is all the protest is to you, fine. If you actually care to see what people are mad about, you’ll find you might agree with some people on some of the issues. It’s not about being right it’s about being informed.

  • @phantomFive - i wouldn’t call it complaining. the Lehman-Citibank relationship has been in the news for more than a year since the scheme was uncovered. there is an ongoing investigation to see if people can be prosecuted. Citibank does not deny the multi-billion dollar loans to Lehman every 3 months but denies it knew Lehman was using the loans to cook the books for its quarterly reports but come on. Citibank won’t loan anybody a dollar without all kinds of background checks.

  • A powerful argument by a powerful mind.

    Edit:

To elaborate, it’s pretty obvious that there isn’t really an analogy between the OWS protestors, majority of which are employed and aren’t seeking handouts without working, and the homeless. They are seeking fair pay for the work they already do, as wealth stratification and personal income are among the lowest they have ever been. A dollars worth of work doesn’t earn you a dollar like it used to for most of the people in this country.

Also, your framing of the story is pretty suspect. You said, “But the 99%ers were tired of the homeless people eating their food” as if the movement is no longer caring for the homeless, or a significant portion don’t. A fair reading of the article does not support that implication. Sloppy writing or dishonest writing.

  • you can find hookers their also ,why don’t you  try that trick  explain to us what you think these protesters are trying to say,we know you don’t like them ,but do you understand what the POINT is?do you really have any clue as to what is happing in the world? i think you don’t ,what you are doing is jumping up and down and shouting  at mountains,,,we will change your world..period.. you can find black people in the kkk ..go find something real to wright about……reading this same really tired  head in the sand stuff drives me crazy it also makes me wonder

  • there’s a troll in the dungeon

  • @DivaJyoti - Thank you for saying that. Haaaah.

  • Louis Vuitton Handbag
turned out to be increasingly popular, as people of both sexes have started wearing it. Diamond watches typically are not really flashy and they give a gentle professional look. People of any age group select the fastest way to adorn themselves with diamonds. Diamond watches has always beautiful additionally they are known with regard to their rich look!

  • @TheSutraDude - that’s not the point……………….

  • @phantomFive - yeah. i know what your point is

  • @TheSutraDude - funny thing is..they won’t loan anyone a dollar…yet half the mortgage notes that have been signed for many people ahve been done against the law…i see alot of angry people that go into foreclosure…sue the banks by asking for the original promissory note..and most of the banks don’t have it because their using illegal methods to get these loans approved….and the result is you winning your property free and clear…god damn knowledge is awesome….but I do have to ask you a question…you said dan doesn’t understand what the protesters are saying..but it seems like dan was posting in reference to the link not his subjective feelings towards the topic…?

  • @BlizzZX - dan rarely states his subjective feelings to subjects in his posts. he finds news clips and xanga drama he thinks will be controversial and lets everyone else battle it out for the purpose of getting traffic. it works for him. i’ve been in comment discussions with him elsewhere.

  • @BlizzZX - i didn’t know that about the promissory notes. is this a case of credit default swaps coming back to bite them? you sell a worthless note to someone who sells it to someone else who sells it to someone else. these are the people who didn’t learn the lesson of musical chairs in kindergarten. masters of the universe my ass

  • @TheSutraDude - yea it happened like that for some people because the homeowner never signed an original note that was suppose to be recorded by the county….alot of the people who hold the note..have copies, and can’t verify the original so therefore by law you have to declare the mortgage is satisfied…….instead of doing a loan modification some people are just getting lawyers to see if their note is the original, and winning their houses free and clear..its kinda crazy…..

  • @BlizzZX - wow that is crazy. i knew a guy who was a manager for a prime lending company in New Jersey. he used to make fun of some of the people his team gave loans to until it all came apart the end of 2008 and he was jobless.

  • @TheSutraDude - yea that dude is an ass….

  • Well, it either means they’re hypocrites…or that their protest isn’t about getting a handout, entitlement, etc., as so many of its opponents would have you believe. Either way, it was a shitty move on their part, but I’m not sure just how much so. This may very well help demonstrate the limits of what charity can accomplish. They may believe in helping the homeless, but like anyone, their ability to do so is limited. I could start an organization dedicated to ending world hunger, but that doesn’t mean that, should the entire population of Ethiopia show up on my doorstep, I should give everything I have to feed them all.

  • The protesters have assigned duties, either organizing, recruiting, making speeches, cooking, cleaning, or just help other members on the support group. Many I met go to work during the day and spend the night talking with the groups there. Some people think they can just take advantage and not do their part because they were already homeless and now they have a reasonable existence provided by the group. Occupy is about equality for productive people, not about homeless aid.

  • This thought came to me:  Those homeless people are definitely not in the 1%, therefore they must be in the 99%.  So as I see it, if they are in the 99% then they have a right to share in the goodies.

  • @bakersdozen2 - Do you often insult conservative Christians?

  • the link doesn’t work.

  • @Resurrectionem - Lol, I am a Conservative Christian. I was being facetious. That’s been a popular intreptation of Christ’s life over the past month or so….. among the more Liberal folks

  • There is a bigger movement behind this.

  • @bakersdozen2 - lol  Sorry. I’m a bit slow on the uptake sometimes. :)

  • I’m an organizer of an occupy movement and I’ve seen this same issue– except ours was a little more extreme in the fact that we have “community tents” and so while most of us were going home to shower, etc. these men were not, and were soiling themselves and then trying to curl up next to us.  Many of us ended up either not sleeping or sleeping in our cars while they slept in our tents… so we changed up the format of the “community” tent rather quickly…
