  • Xanga Footprints

Do you think it is sort of silly that people get paranoid about their xanga footprints?

  • All that paranoia was what started the great xanga decline

  • not really because it’s someone’s personal blog! i love footprints, it’s one of the best things about xanga!

  • not if they know someone is stalking them.

  • I like to see who comes a calling…smile

  • I’m sure people get stalked and murdered through Xanga all of the time. Xanga footprints help those poor, unfortunate people from being stalked.

  • WHO’S WATCHING MEEEEE

  • @Roadlesstaken - Who’s watching the watcher? *dun dun dun

  • Yes. Now let me go check my footprints.

  • lol moar footprints!

  • More footprints for the footprint god.

  • I love footprints.  I don’t understand the paranoia at all.  If you don’t want people reading what you write, why put it on the internet?  If you’re embarrassed about the sites you visit, maybe you shouldn’t visit them.

  • Sorry, I’m paranoid over everything including footprints.

  • I rarely get footprints anymore cuz I don’t post or get around much anymore.Hey,there’s the answer. If you are scared of footprints don’t go visit around and make friends.Thats a SURE way not to get footprints.

  • If people want to see who is in their footprints, how is that hurting anybody else?

  • I get dirty shoes from Germany, Russia, Korea…

  • I like to see who comes to my site personally.  If I could not do so, there are things I would not post.  Actually, I might not post much of anything all things considered.

  • I like leaving footprints, it’s nice to let people know you care about what they have to say

  • Just put everything on private like me :)

  • Footprints on Xanga should be the least of people’s problems.  :)

  • I like knowing who stops by, it shows who reads my stuff even if they don’t comment. at least they read.

  • YES. I love my footprints. Those are some of the best footprints anyone could want.

  • I’ll admit I am paranoid about my xanga footprints. But I know I am being stalked. Same person from new jersey visits everyday and views my site. Today I added sign in lock and now there aree no footprints for my site. I felt like I couldnt write what I wanted anymore because someone I know is reading everything, especially when I vent. I hope that the sign in lock gets them off my back permanently.

  • I openly declare that if footprints are removed, I would visit sites unabashedly. I am hurting right now, feels like blood is leaking. I am trying to understand why somw women like to seduce a goor humble man who makes money, make him fall madly in love, steal his money, blame it on someone else, commit adultery, come home and say ” hi honey,” like nothing bad happened. The husband is so in love, he cannot let go of this femme fatale. Everyone bows to her beauty, the weak, the strong, the righteous, all fall pray to her sexuality. I have to be honest, I saw how she sent sexual messages to a fellow, very subtle. Power? Control? Hatred for men? Did her father molest her? The more I try to do the mathematics, the more I realize my weaknesses become magnified in her glorious presence. I have become a stronger man in my spiritual battle against her ghost, always on my head, like a killer in the silence, she never said a word, but I found myself enchanted more and more.

Yes I know I am a man of wrath. My inner wrath would erupt at not being good enough to catch her interest, as if her opinion of me was the only thing that mattered. My immaturity was exposed in its full glory thanks to this seductress adultress, woman devil, I have become stronger, but her presence is always with me, just yesterday my body began to glow with warmth, therapeutically, as I felt her spirit soothe my whole body. But right now, I can see my self hatred, like a flame of envy, lust, desire, yet like the moon, totally beyond my grasp, her adultery causes me pain, I feel the full extent of my immaturity blossom in the mirror of her eyes, and how hard she tried to hide her disgust for me, and how hard I tried to hide my feelings for her, it was a revolting experience, an eye opener, and I realized that if I did not change, it would be my fate to be unloved by the beautiful women who could potentially come into my life.

I was so ignorant, so wrong, I have to change, get all the anger out of my system, I need to be ready, I need to be stronger, I need to become a more confident man, so the next time I see a beautiful woman, I don’t have to be afraid.

  • I only get paranoid about footprints when it comes to certain people or interesting patterns. So I guess my answer is, I’m a footprints creeper and no shame. No shame.

  • it does deter me from reading some blogs because of overly paranoid people that accuse me of stalking them when the point of subscribing to someone…is to read their blog so that’s what I did since I subscribed. if they don’t want readers and value their privacy, then don’t post a public blog, then complain about “stalkers” when we’re simply “readers.” they don’t appreciate a readership but get whiny, so I won’t bother to read their site if they don’t welcome readers. that’s why I tend to read the front page ish sites than personal random blogs that might get annoyed at curious people reading their blogs.

  • Friends’ Lock ftw.

  • I think it’s sillier that people want to keep them so they can monitor their “stalkers”. If you blog on a public website and someone you don’t want to read you reads you, you’re not being stalked and you are being an elitist self-absorbed ass to think so.

  • Yes, some people are ridiculously obsessed with footprints, and I’m not talking about people with serious stalker problems. But I’d still rather keep the footprint feature.

@CreativeUndertow - You’ve probably never had somebody send you a nasty message accusing you of stalking them, or berating you for not leaving comments or  eProps when you read their blog. All because they saw your footprints on their site. There are some really paranoid people out there who haven’t figured out that they can lock down their xanga if they don’t want strangers dropping by.

  • @saintvi - I admit this unsolicited opinion originally made me snap at you, which I’ve deleted. Has it occurred to you that you might get those messages because of the way you talk to people? I don’t even know you, and your patronizing tone made me want to send you a nasty message!

  • Yes and no. I know some people have literally had stalkers stalk them through Xanga, so that would be a reason to ditch Xanga over footprints. But how many times has that happened? Not many, to my knowledge. Footprints have actually caused more traffic on Xanga. If user1 looks in their footprints and sees that user2 visited them, what do they do 90% of of the time? They click that username. What else do they do? They click on “referrer” to see what was so interesting about their comment or whatever to refer user2 to their site. That drove traffic to two people just right there. I like that we’d still have views, but eliminating footprints won’t drive more traffic. Making people want to use Xanga would drive more traffic.  You, me, Nori, Spidey, Drak, and some others all averaged over 100 comments per post for a good while, and you posted every day, some days twice a day, for a while, and still you made well over 100. That had nothing to do with foorprints, it had everything to do with more people being on Xanga. If people leave Xanga, and don’t come back, you won’t get that traffic back by merely eliminating footprints. Just sayin’.

  • I’m sorry for paranoids.  Perhaps they would be happier disabling footprints or making their sites completely private and just browsing blogs to read without signing in?

  • It is silly. If you don’t want people reading your blogs, don’t write them! Or at least, don’t leave them open to the public.

  • about as silly as your posts.

jk…i don’t pay much attention to them unless i see south carolina in the last 5 or whatever on my home page. then i get paranoid because i’ve had someone i know irl screen shot my page and send it out to family and friends. dipshits.

  • Not at all. It’s only natural to want to keep those deepest, most intimate thoughts that you post on the internet private, just as it’s only natural to want to keep the things you shouted with a bullhorn that time you crawl up on top of your roof private as well.

  • Some are, yes. I don’t mind seeing who comes to my page, but I also don’t look at people as stalkers for coming to my page. if the same person reads your blog every day, it doesn’t mean they are stalking you, they just might, you know, enjoy reading what you write! *rolls eyes*. That’s why there is friends lock and sign in lock. There are other options. If one doesn’t one strangers visiting their site, they can either not post on the internet or go to friends lock. Simple.

  • Slow news day, Dan? Not gunna take any crazy, radical sides today; or just plain play devil’s advocate?

  • Yes unless they see someone from the Hell in their footprints.

  • are you paranoid about footprints?

  • I like the footprints feature just the way it is.

So, yes, I think it’s silly.

  • I think it’s idiotic and the fact that Xanga would rather mess around with taking away a perfectly good and helpful feature to accommodate those idiots, instead of making this site a better place, shows why Xanga is no threat to Twitter and Facebook.

  • When you don’t leave comments, it’s the only way I know you still care, Dan. lol

  • It is silly. Turn on friends-lock if you’re that paranoid and stop whining.

  • yes, unless someone is legitimately stalking them.. as in, someone who knows where they live and uses xanga to check up on where they will be.

I had an ex do that to me once, but xanga didn’t even have footprints way back then hahaha

  • I loved footprints. Seeing who read my xanga led me to other blogs I ended up subscribing to and making friends with. I never was afraid of letting people know I had read their xanga.

(it also worked well with sign in block to see if my ex’s were reading my xanga )

  • people think theyre being “stalked” when theyre really not. maybe they dont know what stalking is, but somebody reading a bunch of your posts isnt stalking…ESPECIALLY if they never comment. that probably means they just like reading your blog.

now, if they leave CONSTANT comment about how hot you are and say things that make you feel unsafe, maybe that is getting close to some kind of cyber-stalking. but there is also a thing called BLOCKING. i have had really weird/mentally unstable/creepy guys on my site, mostly when i was a teenager (probably because xanga was less dead), who would comment on every single post and message me several times a day, etc. etc. but i just BLOCKED them and it’s never been a problem since

footprints aren’t good because people like the people above ^^^^^ get all paranoid, and then EVERYONE feels like they can’t visit certain sites, or they cant read maybe more than two or three pages at a time, even if they like what they’re reading. because they don’t want to be a “stalker”

having been here both before and after footprints i know firsthand the world without footprints is a better, more entertaining one. a world full of freedom..live free on die!!1111
    THE END

  • Uh … yeah.

If you’re posting public information, then having the public visit, even repeatedly, shouldn’t wig you out.

If you really are afraid of stalkers – use “Friends Lock.”

  • no, not a little, i would characterize it as a serious mental illness.

  • yes i like the foot print i like to now who come to my site

  • Sometimes I just go from one site to another leaving my footprints all over the place…then I get more visitors/comments because they’re curious. “Who was that stranger!? I’ma go to her site and see what kind of nut she is!”

  • I like having them, but I don’t like to be visible to everyone’s blog I visit…I prefer the ninja life…

  • If you don’t want people to know about you or read what you write, don’t write things online.  It’s literally that easy.

  • @LGailGarrett - so that is the sweet nut who stalks me. lol you can come anytime Gail

  • Yes, it’s silly.   Wow, the whole point of having a blog or website of your own is to get your ideas and material out there in the public’s eye.

  • I th gonna do what they do, I’m not gonna call them silly for that.

  • This is in response to everyone  whose is seriously worried about whose reading whatever.
If you wanted no one to read your thoughts then why come to a PUBLIC forum and post them. And if someone is coming repeatedly back to your site to read what you’ve wrote, shouldn’t that be a compliment? It’s only serious stalking when they try and get in contact with you.
    Seriously, you paranoid prats.

  • I don’t even look

  • @sheswithoutaname -  You are wrong, I can ask for your cell number so we can talk, it is not stalking, you can refuse to give me it.

  • lol thats funny…never really thought of it much tho, but I am new :)

  • I’m paranoid…as heck.  I got like the Russian Federation and then Anonymous Proxy on my footprints.  All I got is poetry, so my girl has asked me if I think they use my writings for studying over there.  Dunno, I think it’s crap.  My personal crap, but crap none-the-less.

  • omg plz add me u loom awesome

  • Dannitha,
I liked being friends w/u before. But I saw that you’d constantly time-update your xanga entries, so they’d constantly appear and reappear and so forth hundreds of times on my news feed and it just irritated me. That said, if you want to subscribe to me I’d be happy for you to read my xanga if it pleases you to do so, and I will return the favor often. I just don’t want my newsfeed raped daily. :
