Eating Horse Meat
It is being reported that we may soon have horse meat available in the U.S. Here is the link: Link
Here is a photo of horse meat. It looks just like a cow.
If it was legal, would you eat horse meat?

first!
(It’s really super childish that I still get excited to be first, I know, but there it is)
I love my horses more than anything in the whole wide world…….
But, surprisingly, yes. I’d like to try it.
I love horses probably more than anyone you’ll ever meet… but I have a whole soapbox for why horse slaughter should be perfectly legal. In a nutshell: it just makes sense.
It taste different and the texture is also quite different. If you eat cow meat and pork why wouldn’t you eat horse?
i dont have anything against it, and i would try it if offered for sure. i would have a hard time buying it just because i love horses
That just made me gag. I’m all set with that shit.
Sure.
No. Just like I’ll never eat ostrich, snake, sheep, veil or all that other stuff. I only eat chicken, cow, and turkey because I’ve grown accustomed to it, I’ve done it my entire life. Horses though, are well horses. So no.
hey horses can have multiple uses! if i could eat my car, i’d try some.
People won’t usually eat horses and squirrels because they think they’re cute. Cows, chickens, crabs, and moose on the other hand are hideous, so we chuck them into a meat grinder.Cannabalism works the opposite way, I think.
I might try it. I’m not a big fan of red meat, but if it was cheap, I guess I’d taste just to see what it was like. I like to try new things sometimes, it’s better than eating the same boring stuff all the time. ::shrug::
I don’t know. I’ve cut back on eating pork and beef. I can’t imagine feeling comfortable eating horse.
i am currently living in Jeju, where horse meat is really common. in terms of preference, i prefer cow/chicken over horse meat because horse is tougher to chew… a lot more muscle to work through. but i’d eat it just the same. food is food.
Didn’t they used to make dog food from horse meat? I’ll pass.
@MochaSprinkle - I think I’m more childish for wishing I was first. I’ve never been first…
Sure, I’d give it a try. My father hunts so I’ve had many types of meat. This wouldn’t be any different to me.
Since it’s supposedly a tough meat to chew, maybe it’s like kangaroo? I’ve had kangaroo before and that was nice.
“I’M SO HUNGRY I COULD EAT A HORSE”
…literally…
I think the only way I would eat that is if it was by accident where someone didn’t tell me what it was. As long as there’s beef I’m not gonna eat a horse…It probably tastes the same…
Only if it’s 100% stud meat. I don’t want any weak horses in my meat. That’s what dog food is for.
They used to sell it back in the seventys…it don’t taste that much different once cooked but mind ya I never bought any…smile
Sure.
after living and working on a horse farm…hell yes
Yes. Meat is meat. It’d be odd NOT to!
I do not eat super cute animals, so no I wouldn’t eat horse. I also don’t eat super ugly animals, so I wouldn’t eat a snake or lobster or anything that looks like a giant bug.
Oh It’s my favourite meat! I don’t really understand why it’s illegal there. Cows are game but horses aren’t?!
when i was living in rural costa rica i ate some kind of strange processed meat that i actually really enjoyed. later, i found out it contained horse meat. at first, it kind of weirded me out just because i love horses and i’m not accustomed to eating them, but then i realized i’m a hypocrite because i love pigs and bacon is one of my favorite guilty pleasures food-wise. so yes, i would eat horse in the US too.
@College_Ruled11X85 - haha that’s exactly what happened to me. it was good

Dogs eat horses : Like its in their dog food..
I guess its meat, but I dont think I would be able to eat it myself.. I cant even eat duck because they are too cute
I only eat cow, and sometimes chicken and pig.
@saintvi - They also make dog food with chicken, beef, corn, wheat, potatoes, eggs, rice…so what are you saying?
I have gone vegetarian for a while so no…but otherwise yeah I’d try it.
Yes.
No, I’m an animal lover. The only meat I’ll eat is fetus, dick, pussy, and maybe monkeys. Monkeys are assholes.
Cubans here in Miami love horse meat. The money per pound goes high and there have been a few instances where horses in some farms where killed in the middle of the night to take their meat and sell it in the illegal market. Just this past month an illegal farm was shut down where horse meat was being sold.
When I lived in Spain, horse meat is sold in the marketplace. I tried it and its a bit strong for my taste.
I’ve eaten horse meat before. It tastes good. If you’re willing to eat cow and pig, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be okay with eating horse too.
@ShimmerBodyCream - Haha!
I’m firing up the grill right now.
@plursheep - It was once considered only fit for dog food and now we think dogs deserve better. And better is the scraps of cows and chickens that most humans won’t eat, mixed in with a lot of cheap grain that was left in the field so long it’s only good for animal feed.
I think I’ll stick to my pig, cow, veil and moose.
Just looking at the picture makes me want to puke.
don’t chew the cud, no cloven hoof. so, don’t eat. exception for bacon.
Maybe. As long as no one tells me it’s horse meat.
It’s illegal in the States? Weird… It’s delicious. I love horses though… but they are delicious.
No. I don’t care if other people eat them, they just fall in the lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh! My! food group which means I’ll never taste any on purpose. If I accidentally ate a some, I am sure it would make me gag.
I give it a miss.
@saintvi - I believe you’re right, but I think that was only cost effective because Nag was used, and is/was cheap nutrient value for canines.
If I’m hungry enough I’ll eat almost anything (almost being when there is a greater health risk in comparison to the level of hunger). Even if horse isn’t cheap or easily accessible, I’d try it.
Nawh, I’ll stick to cow….
Sure. Why not? It’s an animal…just like the others that we eat!
literally just posted about this.
i thought it was already legal. i saw that obama had passed some bill, and legalizing horse slaughter was within the bill.
No, just like I wouldn’t eat a dog or cat.
It’s nothing new. People have been eating horse meat and other mammals for centuries. In the harsh deserts, when a rider’s horse died and he’s dying of starvation and thirst, he will eat his horse to substance himself. It came out of a necessity to survive and now people are seeing horse meat as another exotic meal.
Nope…I’m a veggie
Sure, I would.
No, but I’m a vegan.
i don’t think i would.
@psycocrazypony -
I fully agree with you.
My aunt is owner of a national horse magazine and she would probably kill me if she ever found out I would admit to the willingness of trying horse meat, but I would and if I liked it I would even consider eating it as part of my diet.
I ride horses every day, they are beautiful animals indeed, but that doesn’t mean they can’t sustain our lives with food either.
Only if it tastes better than kangaroo.
I used to eat horse sausage, salami and lunch meat in other contries. Nothing special. Now we don’t eat it, as it’s not kosher.
i would eat every horse i could get my hands on
So many of these comments make no sense whatsoever. You determine an animal’s right to be used for food based on how cute you think it is? So it’s okay to eat ugly chickens, but stay away from cuddly fur seals? That’s discrimination of the worst kind.
yep.
No, horse to me are pets. I don’t eat pets (well once we ate our pig but I was little P:)
I don’t think I could, it’s not that I have anything against people eating horse meat. It’s like rabbit meat, I think of a cute and fuzzy bunny and I couldn’t put the piece of meat near my lips. I guess cows and chicken aren’t cute to me so I don’t have a problem eating them.
If it was war and no other food was left I most likely would.
Neigh!
I’ve tried ostrich, buffalo, alligator, snake, frog, turtle, and most recently, kangaroo. So yeah, I’d probably at least give horse a shot. I’d draw the line at dog. I think it’s fine if other people eat it, it’s just something I personally couldn’t do. lol.
yeahh ive had it before – im swedish so i grew up with it =]
I would never! To me, horses are too noble and intelligent to be a food animal. To me, anything which is capable to developing an attachment to another being is no good for food. It’s cruel to kill animals like that, and then disrespectful to eat them.
Yes, and I have already.
Wait, horse meat was illegal?
The only line I draw is no dog and no cat. Other than that I always love trying new foods.
No. I own and ride a horse. It would be like eating cat or dog meat. While eating this type of food is very common in other parts of the world, what can I say, but ” Americans don’t eat their pets.”
Horse meat is tasty! I had some several years ago. I think it was when traveling out West, but it could have been in Europe or Mexico. I don’t like horses — they are very dumb animals — and think they’d be a nice addition to my diet.
Hmmm. This thread is making me so hungry that I could eat a horse!
– ApocalypseSoon
probably not right away, but Im sure it would become similar to a cow after time.
I had horse meat when I lived in Bonn, Germany. It’s use in a lot of their traditional food, and honestly I didn’t know it wasn’t beef.
@saintvi - You’d be surprised to find out where most beef and chicken come from for human consumption =]
