  • Are You a Conservative or a Liberal?

I think the people of xanga tend to rate themselves as more liberal than conservative every time I do this question.

So rate yourself on this scale and you can’t say you are in the middle.

    1.  Very Conservative

    2.  Slightly Conservative

    3.  Very Liberal

    4.  Slightly Liberal.

    Which one are you?

  • 2, but libertarian.

  • No middle of the road option, is there? Well, I suppose I’ll rate myself a 4, because I’m not VERY liberal, but I would not at all consider myself a conservative. Hmm.

Xanga is always so black & white on politics. I’m probably a shade of gray. :P

  • There is no “slightly” or “very”.

You either are or you aren’t.

    And I are Conservative.

  • It’s a false dichotomy, really.

  • A few years ago I’d have said slightly conservative. Now I’d say slightly liberal. I don’t think I changed; I think the definitions have changed.

  • 2 by real world standards

    1. By xanga standards

  • I’m strictly centrist, though lately I’ve been leaning center-left. The GOP blows, but so does Obama.

    Ugh.

  • DivaJyoti is a demented cunt.

  • You didn’t define liberal or conservative. You’re going to have party line Republicans telling you they’re conservative, what a joke.

  • Your scale is confusing and I refuse to answer this survey because of this.

  • I believe that the two-party system was meant to have people fight amongst themselves for stupid reasons and does nothing to really expand political views, but rather confines them into another black and white system that no one can really identify with.

    That’s just me.

  • Anyone who wants to know the answer to this question for me can simply view what I rec and view my posts and comments. I tend to stay away from labels.

  • 4/2 depending on the subject area

  •   I say I’m between 2 and 4. It depends on the issue.

  • Ah, well I’m definitely very conservative when it comes to the moral issues. But, when it comes to issues such as healthcare/the war I’m definitely more on the democratic side.

  • Two. Although, I hate to vote for somebody based on

    only

    their political party.

  • pretty conservative I think

  • I’m a moderate Democrat on most topics, but not a Blue Dog.  On a few (social) topics I lean slightly to the right. Great question!  Great blog!

  • I’m conservative and I wish I coulda had some folks answer my question I posted as to why you are either liberal or conservative and why you think your view is best for the country. Not one comment about it.Oh well.

  • I do not put a label on myself or anybody for that matter, however to the worlds standards I am very conservative.

  • It depends on the issue. Politically, I tend to be a conservative libertarian, in issues of morality I tend to be labeled liberal because I think everyone has their own kinks, and whatever floats their boat is okay. Perhaps I am a gregarious introvert with a knack for the unusual. Nah! Eccentric is only for the rich, I’m just weird.

  • 2 but with libertarian leanings as well. I’m a centrist.

  • very conservative! However, I feel that if it werent for my relationship with our lord and savior my views would be different.

  • IM A LIBERAL WOMAN AND YOUR WRONG!

  • Probably 1 on most issues, but 3 on a few things. I used to label myself as Republican, but don’t like a lot of things about “the party” as of late…plus certain social issues capture my heart, so I guess maybe I’m Independent?

  • No. I’m an anarchist.

  • At present 1 but, like most Americans, I go back and fourth between extreme left wing commie pinko and radical right wing Christian fundamentalist.

  • @NoOneLikesDivas - looks like you’ve got of a bad grammar problem so it must be really bad if it’s me spotted it. hahaw

  • No, I’m a Libertarian.

I believe in the sanctity of self-ownership (I decide what happens to my body and when I die) wholeheartedly because lack of it leads to atrocious human rights violations like thought crime and slavery (others’ ownership of one’s body); and I believe the psychiatric community is largely dogmatic and corrupt.  I also believe in self responsibility (i.e. take care of your own drug problem, mental illness does not excuse criminality).  The war on drugs is an infringement on personhood.  I do believe in the death penalty, provided sufficient evidence is presented.
I believe that the government has no right to go into my undergarments OR my wallet.
I believe our borders need to be protected before we worry about anyone else’s.  I believe that no religion should take precedence over another in its inherited rights under the constitution.  I believe in completely legal gun ownership, especially in gang-stricken areas.
I believe that the government should protect us from monopolies, which often does include certain issues in healthcare (most people need healthcare in their lives, but they should have a choice whether to purchase it)

  • I’m a Republican who is fiscally conservative (stay out of my checkbook) and socially liberal (stay out of my bed)!  Though with the recent women’s issues stuff going on, I think the Republicans need to tone that shit down!

  • @DrummingMediocrity - “I believe that the government has no right to go into my undergarments OR my wallet. “

Exactly my same thoughts.  I don’t like the government deciding what I can do with my own body anymore than I like them telling me what I should do with the money I earn.

  • @FuhkAwf - LOL yay, a new one, a demented cunt, let me add that one to my list.

I don’t actually live in your brain, but apparently a hallucination of me that you have does, wow you young people today get pretty caught up in stuff, you really should be out drinking and fucking or going to church or somethin, but thanks for the laugh.

  • @FuhkAwf - Mon ami…she’s a lady, and that wasn’t the question. What you’re trying to be isn’t listed in the survey.

  • There are too many issues to make a general reference- folks can have both conservative and liberal views depending on the topic of conversation. Today’s media and politics are quick to brand people based on just one wedge issue.

  • @wrybreadspread - it was pretty much the best I could do, kinda caught me off guard on this blog, but OK, I’ll try to do better next time.

  • somewhere between slightly liberal and somewhat liberal.

  • There is status quo and folks who want to turn back the clock. So far I haven’t run into anyone who would want to take the right to vote for women and minorities but what do folks think of how different states want to make it harder to vote?

How conservative do folks want to spend? Basically spending for education smart both sides want that to be done, but is it a gafe when Santorum says that some University/college education is sort of elitist?

How do conservatives want America to be strong? Should we spend more for the military or work harder to have solutions that require more non military solutions?

Liberals do not want to kill yet they do allow compassion to allow abortions. To have executions is problematic in California, the rate of executions in Texas is sort of excessive. I do not think hard conservatives approve of too much executions either.

Why rate xangians according to whether they are liberal or conservative? I rate people who have a friend lock slightly paranoid. I have not yet run into a person where everything they write should be totally blocked and sometimes my censorship is designed for a tone or vibe in my blog.

  • I’m the executioner bunny^_^

  • slightly conservative

  • I know this one!

    I am…. none of the above. I am âˆšâˆ’1
    I am Immoral_sensei… I don’t need your pre-made labels.

  • 2.  Slightly Conservative

  • I’m a person.

  • Slightly conservative

  • #2, but leaning to the middle.

  • Moderately conservative and quite a bit contrarian.

  • Why are these the only two options? It’s like asking, are you a Communist or a Socialist. Are you a moron, or just stupid. Would you like to die slowly, or slowly and painfully?

Liberal and Conservative are not opposite ends of a spectrum.
So…. how many Zangans are libertarians?

  • Very conservative and proud of it. Screw liberals!

  • Neither.  Liberterian.

  • neither, dan.  There is a thing called “third party”

  • number 2 I guess.

  • Very conservative, but definitely not Republican.  More Tea Party.

  • Liberal on most issues. In a nutshell, I believe that people should be able to do as they please, so long as they do not infringe on the rights of others.
@PervyPenguin - You said what I’ve been thinking forever. I think “liberal” and “conservative” are parts of a continuum, both politically and socially speaking. I don’t like the 2 party system, because it makes everything us vs them. I think it’s also possible to have too many parties, where it just gets confusing and then the elected person actually got only 5% of the popular vote. But 3-5 is a good number, I think. It gets rid of the us vs them mentality without elections becoming a hairy, confusing mess.

  • I’m in the middle.  I’m like a boat.  I swing right, I swing left, then I throw up.

  • Why isn’t slut one of your options?

  • I doubt anyone would be very surprised to learn that I identify as very conservative.

  • I’m a 2 and my best beloved is a 2, too!! We do embrace new ideas and concepts ‘n such falderal, but we like to stay kinda unchanged, when possible and necessary…. What do you consider necessary?? Peace to one n all

  • I lean toward liberal. Some conservatives  are dangerous.

  • For the most part, I am both one and two. Somewhat in the middle. lol If that makes any sense. (: It just depends.. deep down; I guess. I CAN be very conservative. On some things. And some other things, I lean more to the side of “slightly.” Depending on what President is talking about what. But I will say this, I am NOT Liberal. At all! And I know that with 100% of my being. (: Thankyou for giving me the option/choice to answer this question. (: And I enjoyed reading other people’s thoughts, beliefs, opinions, etc. ((:

  • I will never vote Democrat or Republican again. Both parties suck and they are pretty much the same though the democrats lie to make people think they are different. I will vote for a third party.

  • No option for a fascist like me?
    Not fair.

  • I think i’m a 2

  • I’m moving to Panama, buying a fishing boat, and starting a charter service. Some of the best Blue Marlin fishing in the world is off the coast of Panama.

Twenty percent discount to Xanga members, provided they’re conservatives, or conservative leaning independents.

Thirty percent increase of fees to the others.

But, I won’t answer this poll. Sorry. It’s no one’s business here.

  • I am none of the above. I don’t participate in politics. I have opinions on a lot of things that would have my conservative identifying friends calling me a liberal… and opinions on other things that have my liberal identifying friends calling me a conservative. The funny thing is that a lot of the issues overlap, so I have friends on either side “accusing” me of siding with the “other side” on the same issues.

  • Number 1 bitchhhhhh my vagina is government property

  • Chomskyist. That’s to the left of very liberal but not quite around to Libertarian. I’m 60.

Synonymns: Constitutional Anarchy, Responsible Anarchy, Compassionate Anarchy, Direct Democracy–[bi-passing the electoral college]

Most often in our generation, Anarcho-pacifist. I have been one for 40 years.  Direct Democracy is a good name,  I was in the room when someone brought a clipping about the six men who had been hung for asking that entities abroad divest stock in South African companies and subsidiaries.  We had a fairly normal rally that day among days, we weren’t expecting much, as per usual.

The whole black theme house came and seeing the crowd other people stopped. Soon we had six hundred people and the black students weren’t going anywhere. There was only one person with any Viet Nam protest experience and he said  ”We’d better get them moving. Time to march.”  So we marched around the campus but no on was dropping out.

We marched into the student union, packing it, and sat down. It was a sit in and on the same day as the Seabrook nuclear power plant demonstration. They had 2,500 people.  The next day Students at UC Santa Cruz slept in the student union–700 or so. The South African movement, and the first non-violent revolution began.

The police didn’t wear helmets. We sang in the bus. Someone got out of his plastic handcuffs and everybody removed the cuffs of their neighbour.  Then we all began to clap. We had two policemen.  By the time we got to the jail they figured out we were of no mind to harm them. It was  funny time. I took care of the cop next door’s kids–actually it was just a flow from house to house and the rolled around on the floor giggling  “You pig, you pig.” And no, no one got paid.  When I baby sat in the evening I got paid.

We talked to the police while we were waiting for space in the jail. They talked about the violence during the anti-war demonstrations.  They were afraid it would all happen again, but that was not who we were.  That violence might not have happened if Martin Luther King had lived. But he didn’t.

We had more demonstrations, notifying the media and telling them what why when and where and that we were committed to non violence. Careful not to trash the black box. In the countries where it originated it is a physical black box, with plastic windows–no one runs anywhere–sort of like a dragon at Chinese New Year, a political centapede. Words when they cross borders are empty barrels. What is inside may be better or very much worse.  Handle words with care, they are humanity’s future.

  • 2 or 4. I’m a bit of both. @QuantumStorm - lol, nice. Automated is automated, what could go wrong?

  • slightly liberal according to a quiz I just took

  • 1 as far as my personal  choices are concerned, but Libertarian as for all my voting and (anti)legislation goes.

  • Those 4 leave out so much! But I think I’m closer to slightly conservative than slightly liberal. It so depends on the topic though! Not against gay marriage at all, very against abortion, see?

  • Conservative, definitely!

  • 2.  Slightly conservative.

I would have said “very” conservative, or just plain ‘ol conservative, eight years ago. However,  the Tea Party has hijacked the far end of the conservative spectrum — and I do not advocate  either their social or economic “far far right” platforms, which are excessive in every way.

  • By American standards, I’m very liberal. But American political discourse has become skewed so far to the right (only here could a centrist like Obama be called a “communist” or “Marxist” by anyone with a straight face) that this question is almost meaningless.

  • Me=Conservative

  • I’m not any of those, or I’m all of those depending on the issue.  I suspect that if someone has the same label across every topic, he isn’t much of a thinker.  I am fiscally conservative and do not like waste.  I am pro-personal freedom/choice within the law – and that presents a problem due to those pushing to legalize marijuana and criminalize abortion.  I’d say it’s getting more difficult to continue to adhere to or respect law and order, when laws are subject to change and even definitions in language are subject to change.  Labels are limiting.  And they have never fit me.

If I called myself “slightly conservative” or “slightly liberal”, I’m afraid I might just as well call myself nuts, especially if I chose the former.

  • 3, I hate conservatives, they ruined my life grr

  • @James_River - Your twisted self decided to name drop both Jim and I who haven’t been on this shit hole of a site in months. I love how you try to twist shit to make yourself sound less pathetic and sick. Keep at it, you old crotchety hag, we all laugh our asses off at you.

For your information, I fuck more in one day than anyone would fuck you in a month. =D

  • @wrybreadspread - She’s a lady?! You’re just as demented.

  • @mrqtran - Hey, yellow crayon. Shut the fuck up yourself. =D

  • 4. Although I’m actually an Independent supporting Mitt Romney this time around.

I also would argue that you should flip 3 and 4 so that 1 is ultra conservative and 4 is ultra liberal… but, that’s just me being a pain in the ass.

  • slightly liberal, I vote for NPD in Canada

  • Liberal to Conservative does NOT encompass the entire political/philosophical spectrum.

    How about “Very Libertarian”?

  • I am going to go with 2, seems to be the Median of answers to this topic.

  • very conservative! However, I feel that if it werent for my relationship with our lord and savior my views would be different.
