  • Hunger Games

So my wife asked me to go get tickets tonight to see the movie “Hunger Games.”  She has read all three books.  I went to purchase the tickets tonight for the movie tomorrow.

This was the line for the opening at 12:00 midnight tonight.

At about 9:30 p.m., the line was all the way down the side of that building and around the corner.  I was able to walk right up and get tickets for tomorrow night.  My wife said she would have went to see it tonight at midnight if she would have known it was opening at midnight.

Do you plan to go see Hunger Games?

  • I think my husband is taking me this weekend.

  • I have no idea what that is :P

  • 945 pm tomorrow evening… and I’m very excited about it.

  • Glad I don’t work at the movies anymore.

  • I’m there right now. =]

  • If you read/ watched Battle Royale, you’ve seen a much better version of The Hunger Games.

  • I’ll see it when it’s on Netflix. I have yet to see the movie that’s worth standing in line for.

  • If I was half my age I would be this movie’s target audience. Oh to be 15 again….

  • I don’t know anything about that movie but reguardless, people are out of their mind thinking they HAVE to be the first ones to see the movie and stand in line for hours to do so.I really don’t get that mentality.Whats the big deal in waiting a few weeks or at least til the crowds ease up.I wish people would line up to see October Baby like that. What an incredible movie that was.Starts tomorrow.

  • Probably not, looks cool though.

  • Honestly, this is the recap I keep getting… “It is about ‘kids’ going into an arena to fight for food…. to the death.” I hope there is more to it than that. Is it really that good? I might go see it this weekend to gauge whether or not to read the books. Hope it’s good!!

  • Sitting waiting for it to start. Wife & I brought my son for his birthday.

  • Eventually I will go to see what all the fuss is about, but I think I can hold off for a weekend and let the crowds die down.

  • Yes, but I am not crazy enough to hustle to go the midnight showing.  I don’t think any movie is worth staying up to see at midnight.

  • yeah, but i’ll finish the first book first

  • Yes! Can’t wait!

  • Of course not. When will Hollywood end it’s obsession with these stupid teen vampire movies!

  • The books weren’t great, so probably not.

  • No I hate going to the movies.

  • That movie looks gay as fuck.

  • @Shadowrunner81 -  Since when do you have to be a teen to be into a book about teens?  *lol*  I do NOT find this story plot to be “teenagerish” AT ALL.  Seriously.  I read all 3 books – they were great!
We’re the same age & I plan on going to see it in theaters soon, I hope.  With my husband who is 6 years older.  So yeah, don’t give lame excuses to not see it.

  • Just started the 3rd book now. Had no idea this book had that big of a following.

It’s ok. I read it to see just how close it was to battle royal since fan vehemently say it isn’t like it. (which the first book is almost exactly the same)

I’ll probably go see it, but I’ll wait. Nothing worse for me than opening night at a movie I wanna see.

  • I have my ticket for tomorrow, I’m sooooo excited!!!!! The tickets for the midnight shows were sold out, but I got one for tomorrow afternoon. whoot whoot.

  • It looks like “the new Twilight”, and I hope that means we won’t have to hear about Twilight much anymore.

  • Well, yeah!  I hope the movie is better than the books!

  • I would love to, but I think money is too tight to go see anything any time soon.

  • naw…i’d rather watch battle royale again

  • I’ve seen it already.  I just spend a little time on Tumblr and see countless photos from it.  I’ve been able to piece together the entire film with all the gifs.

  • I did a midnight showing once. Yeah, it’s much more logical to go get tickets for the next day… Impatience. Tsk. I would’ve enjoyed your position in the way of mental mockery; “Yeah, you sit out here all you want. I’ll be back tomorrow to NOT sit out here for 3 hours.”

I haven’t the slightest clue what the “Hunger Games” is.

  • @christianityneedsintegrity - Fight to the death for food? Nope. More like a post apocalyptic North America divided by 12 districts and ruled by the capital, where they force the 12 districts to give up 2 of their children every year to fight to the death, only one is allowed to remain alive. They do this as punishment to the districts for having rebelled in the past. Main girl of the story volunteers to participate in the games to save her 12 year old sister from participating in the games and dying.

  • @tsh44 - How will you ever know a movie is worth standing in line for if you’ll never do it? You have to actually stand in a line and THEN see the movie in order to know one way or the other.

  • probably not, because the trailer has already tell almost what the movie’s about. seems like it’s similar to the japanese movie “Battle Royale”

  • Might go see it eventually. It sounds very similar to Stephen King’s The Long Walk.

  • @OhFiddleheads - No, actually you don’t have to do both standing in line and watching a movie to know a movie isn’t worth it. Line standing I’ve experienced many times for various reasons. Movie watching also. There are many times when I’ve seen some heavily hyped movie only to be thankful I didn’t go stand in line for it. I’ve yet to see a movie and then think “wow, I wish I’d gone and stood in line for hours, paid an outrageous price and sat in a packed movie theater shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of strangers for this one”

  • I’ll probably wait for it to come out on DVD before I see it. I’d like to be able to read the book before I see the movie.

  • Would rather wait and spend the money on a DVD than go to the movie theater. Then at least I own it and can watch it whenever I want instead of the once. Plus not as much noise.

  • I’m not a big fan of going to see movies at the theater, but I’ll make an exception for this one. I really enjoyed the books. It’s not a teenagerish book and it’s definitely nothing like twilight, for those trying to compare. I’m honestly bummed I can’t see it this weekend. Probably won’t be able to next weekend either :(

  • It’s got an awful lot of hype and I’ve been disappointed by those type of movies lately.  So I will wait a while before I go, if I go.

  • I do, I’ll go with some friends sometime this week most likely.

  • Yep. I am taking my daughter to the early show tomorrow. :)

  • Hmm, is this a movie targeted to the same audience as those glistening vampires and hairless werewolves movies? If so, I’ll pass.

  • This may sound naive, but I have no clue what it is, aside from the fact that it was books and now it’s a movie… so no, I have no interest in seeing it at this time.  This is what happens when you don’t have cable, I suppose.

  • i feel sort of ashamed to say yes, i am. my friends recommended i read them and i couldn’t stop until i’d read all 3. the movie won’t be as good, but, i guess i have to see it anyway.

  • @MyTwoCentss -  Alright Alright. MAYBE I’ll see it when it comes out on Netflix.

  • Saw it, it was pretty good, in terms of book adaptations. Well done.

  • I don’t watch cable, I have to look up what Hunger Games is.  That looks like Penn Cinema up here in PA.

  • Yep rolling for for Saturday

  • my girls are in the target demographic.  they saw it last night.  one loved it, the other, meh.

I read the first book — not bad for teen fic.

  • I always get stuck behind a 9 ft giant with an afro whenever I go to the movies. So I’ll probably wait for Netflix.

  • Is it really good? someone told me that’s good , someone said bored ..

i’ve no idea on it will u make some comment after u watch ?:)

haha , anyway i hv thought that to buy a book before , coz the storyline looks great

  • I don’t understand Hunger Games so no, as far as I know Gandhi got shot at the end of Gandhi… I’m not sure how you can make a sequel out of that.

  • what is it about? And what is 50 shades of grey?

  • “…she would have went…”

    Really?

  • I’ll probably see it eventually, but not this weekend.

  • 7 pm tonight. Already got our tickets so we’re good to go!

  • I can’t wait for tomorrow!! (When I will be viewing the movie with my love)

  • @PervyPenguin - One of my favorite books of all time.

  • @PervyPenguin - They’re two distinctly different movies/stories. I disagree with the comparison.

  • SAW IT AT MIDNIGHT! Like every book I loved turned into a movie, it didn’t meet my expectations. However, if my expectations were met, the movie would have probably been 5 hours long. :P Regardless, I enjoyed it and felt that it stayed true to the storyline for the most part. For those who haven’t read the series, I’m sure they’ll be tempted to once they watch this movie; and for those who have, they’ll at least leave the theater moderately satisfied (c’mon, guys, we knew this would happen!). In short, I recommend. :)

  • I’ve already watched them and it’s really good :)

  • @Cayllesth - Awesome! Thanks! I never got that kind of summary from anyone around here. so, you recommend watching and reading then?

  • not interested.

  • Just saw it today. I thought it was great! It stayed true to the book, which was the reason I enjoyed it so much. Some minor changes, but overall, it was awesome.

  • @christianityneedsintegrity - For reading?  definitely recommend it yes. I cannot say anything for the movie since I have not watched it yet, so I am not too sure how it will compare to the book. There is some romance, but it’s not the center or the focus of the story even though to some fans make it that way by adding teams and such. The slowest part of the series will be the 1st half of the 1st book since it’s just setting up the whole story, giving background info, character introduction, setting up for the games etc. If you read all 3 books together it’s mainly about the 12 districts attempting to fight for their freedom from a corrupt government. It’s a tad dark as a few characters you grow attached to do die in terribly gruesome ways.

  • Let the games begin…. I am so excited going in a bit

  • OF course I do.  I just hate to wait for the mangerie that’s my family to come home from work before I can get there!   LOL.

  • @SKANLYN - it has nothing to do with vampires.

  • I’ve been trying to finish the first book, so I can’t wait to see it tomorrow!

  • Yes, I am going tomorrow night! I can’t wait!

  • @christianityneedsintegrity -  There’s a deeper meaning hidden behind that. Plus is not just for food, but as a reminder of a rebellion and times of war. A punishment.

Honestly if you see the movie and THEN read the book. You’ll probably not wanna watch the movies at all. But the books are amazing and I’m a real Hunger Gamer. As in, before these were well known. I thought the movie captured what the book was trying to perceive in the best way possible. Though they did change some things I wish they hadn’t.

I was there at 6 pm standing in line for this movie. I guess it’s just fun lol.

  • @Aletheas_Unspoken_words - Actually it does. It’s another one of those movies like Twilight about a goth high school chick who’s romanced by an effeminate vampire.

  • I’ll probably go to see it this weekend.  I haven’t read the books yet, but have a 1st edition copy of the first one that someone loaned me.  She is a big fan of all three books and liked the movie more than her kids (ages 14, 17, and 19) did — they liked the books better.  She couldn’t understand why many lamestream media movie reviewers thought the film was too violent and agreed with several who said it was obviously toned down to get a PG-13 rating.

From what I’ve read about The Hunger Games Trilogy, it is probably going to be on my shopping list shortly after I finish the first book.  From conversations I’ve had with folks who have read the books, they present a rather dystopian future history of our society.  I like that sort of SF.

  • I didn’t read the book, which means I shall completely enjoy the movie and won’t be comparing it page by page to the movie. I will be seeing it in an hour, and I cannot wait!!!

  • lol not gonna be stupid and line up with that crowd :P

gonna download it when its release :P

  • When it’s on NetFlix or maybe RedBox.

  • So, did you enjoy the movie?!?

  • Is it weird that I’m pretty sure that’s the theater right down the street from my house?!

  • i don’t wanna see it.

  • @SKANLYN -

The HG is not about vampires or werewolves. It is a dystopian novel set in a post-apocalyptic future in the former USA. The country is called Panem.

  • @millionofstars - No, it’s actually about vampires. “Hunger Games” is what they call it when they go out in packs in search of blood on which to feed. The post apocalyptoc thing where it turns out they’re on earth is “Planet of the Apes”.

  • My brother got me started on the hunger game series long before he left for Afghanistan. He’s over there now and can’t see it. So if he can’t see it, either can I. I’m waiting till he gets back.

  • you’re a really good husband :)
