  • Why Do We Really Get Tattoos?

I was just reading an article where it was mentioned that it is no longer a sign of rebellion to get a tattoo.

In the article, they asked “Why do we really get tattoos?”

In fact, over 45 million Americans have tattoos.  Here is the link:  Link

  • No tattoos for me, thank you.

  • I got tattoos for a couple of reasons.  1) I like them 2) I wanted something on my body my ex-husband would never see.  3) I have facial scars from injuries, chicken pox, cancer, and acne.  My tattoos are a permanent mark I wanted and got myself, not something forced upon me against my will.  And I daresay they are prettier than my scars.

I plan on getting a couple more.  I think they can be very pretty and are an interesting way to change my body.  :)

  • Oh, and I wanted to see what it felt like and if I could really handle it!

  • Looking like a savage, preliterate barbarian is in vogue these days. But acting is believing and such fashions do not bode well for civil society.

  • I have one tat, long story as to why, crazy really.  Come be nice and visit me, it’s been a long time

  • I wouldn’t know. I don’t have any and don’t plan to get any.

  • I came SO close to getting the hilt of a Robin Hood sword tattooed on my shoulder blade. But I didn’t for personal reasons and don’t plan on rethinking my decision anytime soon.

  • i bet you the “wholesome” look will come back in, guaranteed.

  • I heard tattoos were a sign of emotional weakness…from a ex gangsta. Lol

  • I can’t believe I’m about to admit this, but I’ve considered paying to have my one and only tattoo removed.  You can’t see my tattoo when I’m wearing normal clothes, but can be seen when I’m in a bathing suit or naked.  Heh.  It’s a semi large tattoo…

But to answer your question, the experience of getting a tattoo can be enjoyable to some and many tattoos are very artistic… pretty, even.  That’s about all I got…

  • I

    hate

tattoos. You know when you accidentally get a sharpie mark on your skin and it doesn’t come off for days regardless of how much and how hard you scrub the mark? That’s exactly what tattoos would feel like for me. I would never feel clean.

  • It’s a form of self-expression, for me. And it’s been a way for me to cope with certain events in my life. Like a scar, I think tattoos (tattoos that actually have some sort of meaning, that is) make a person more beautiful.

To be honest, I can’t understand how someone could possibly hate tattoos. It’s an art form. Like @TiredSoVeryTired said, it’s a mark you chose for yourself. It can (and should be) an important part of who you are.

  • I was actually thinking about this today. I absolutely despise the look of tattoos, but I really want one of my dog’s name. For those who have lost someone, love someone, etc, I think it’s a way to permanently keep that person close to you. Others probably just like the artistic aspects of self expression, and then there are those who do it to look “cool.”

I also disagree that it’s not still a form of a rebellion. There was an absolutely beautiful woman in a sushi place I was checking out and she was covered in tattoos. The person I was with said, “She’s really beautiful, too bad she ruined her body with all those tattoos.” So I think it’s a form of rebellion in some ways. Most people don’t find tattoos on women attractive.

  • Body modification in general is a journey and no two people take it for the same reason.

  • Don’t have any either

  • I prefer not to have anything permanent………….

  • I have a tattoo of your face on my left ass cheek, Dan. It’s huge.

  • Look, I’m sorry I got you drunk and had that smiley face tattoo put on your tail.It seemed like a good idea at the time….

  • Everyone has their own reasons. My only tattoo is symbolic; it tells people that I am straight edge, and the permanent mark embodies the permanence of my decision to stay clean and make healthy choices for myself. People sometimes get offended because I express that so outwardly, but it’s not something I’m enforcing on anyone else.

  • @sometimestheycomebackanyway - I see where you’re coming from, but I don’t know if it’s that extreme.  Maybe it’s just more that nonconformism is more sexy and less morally reprehensible than it used to be.  Plus our country is much more diverse these days, so there’s more influence from other cultures.

  • I don’t have tattoos and have never had an interest in them, but I am indifferent to other people who do.  I find them interesting to look at, but I prefer to keep art on paper, not on my skin.

  • In a World you can’t control you’re still the owner of your body, why wouldn’t you use it to express the way yu feel?

  • Because people are fucking stupid. Skin is not a canvas and should not be permanently scarred on purpose.

  • @Baseballchik138 - THANK YOU. I feel the same way and I can’t stand the idea.

  • For me getting a tattoo is not in the cards but from what i see with my friends who have them its not to rebel its usually to commemorate a person or event that they want to remember forever it symbolizes permanence to some degree

  • I have 8 tattoos. Each tattoo I have for different reasons, each tattoo can be hidden. Just as all my piercings can be either hidden or removed.  One would never know the difference.  I am a single mother, I have a full time job, go to 2 different schools, and I take care of my kid, so I don’t seem like the type of person who would have 8 tattoos or 9 piercings…..but I am.

  • I didn’t realize so many people were against tattoos. I saw this picture on instagram not too long ago that Travis Barker posted of these three old men covered in tattoos. The caption that was included on the picture (I think it was from a tattoo magazine) said, “‘What are you going to do about tattoos when you’re older?!’ …dunno mate, probably grow an epic beard and hangout with other badass tattooed dudes and generally look awesome. What are you going to do when you just look like every other old bastard?” I thought it was funny. Anyways, I think tattoos are really cool and plan on getting a ton. The one I do have didn’t hurt and I love it. I got it because my kinda ex and I were bored and decided to tattoo hearts on each other. Which generally sounds really stupid, but how many people can say they’ve actually tattooed someone? I feel like I won in this situation. We had been together for a few years before we did it. I feel like people get tattoos because it’s what they want to do. Weird.

  • I want tattoos because I want to decorate this body I have been given with everything that means something to me.

  • I just don’t think its classy looking… or professional, for that matter…especially for a career oriented person.

  • I don’t have tat’s but if I were to get one it would be symbolic for me… It would also be my own art I put on my body… :/ I have thought of integrating two peices of others  art but still not sure about it…

  • I don’t like tattoos personally but the only time I considered it, when I was 18, was when I was fresh out of the hospital and wanted to write “this too shall pass” in small, black, cursive script with some birds (haha) on my left wrist. I never seriously considered it, but I’m glad I didn’t…I feel like a large reason for a tattoos is something personal emotionally, especially to represent a loved one/loved one lost.

  • @eagerblue - I get your point, if you are working in an office setting it would make sense to get it in a place that isn’t to hard to cover up but… Not every one’s career choice is so limited… Such as artists, musicians, actor’s, chef’s, photographers, Journalist’s… (Models though I know it’s frowned upon lol.)

  • I prefer getting a tattoo on my wall so I can erase and re-paint it easily.. I’ll keep my body clean :D :D :D

  • Wow. So many people here are seriously anti-tat.

I have one. I’ve wanted once since I was 16, and I got it this past year; I am 27. I spent 11 years searching for the right tattoo; the one that would represent many, many, many personal matters and experiences. My husband drew it; there is no one else that has what I have. I got it on my right upper back sort of crawling up my shoulder so that I can easily cover it with clothing.
For me, getting one was a very cathartic experience. I have experienced so much trauma, pain, and suffering at the hands of fate….so I decided at a young age that I would get one….and experience the pain, but then look forward to seeing the beauty of it immediately afterward.
I realize that this is not attractive to some people, and I realize that not everyone will choose to express themselves in this manner, but mine means more to me than I can begin to explain.
Also, I am very much the “good girl” type, so I’m pretty sure that most of my friends /gasped when I actually had it done. LOL Shock value is also kind of cool. XD

  • people decide to get tattoos for different reasons. maybe as a fad or maybe as a symbolic representation of something or someone that has made a huge impact in his/her life. depends on who you’re asking.

  • @Xbeautifully_broken_downX - seriously so many haters, I don’t understand why people think they even have any right to judge anyone else for getting tattooed. It is a personal choice, and I don’t go around judging people who don’t have tattoos- that’s their choice.

I personally have 14 tattoos, and I love every one of them. They are self expression. They represent different stages in my life, what I was going through, what I have become. They are a part of me, and I would feel completely naked and foreign without them.

  • Tattoos are a marketed product of packaged rebellion – rebellion for followers. If you feel you need a sign on your body saying, “This is who I am,” you’re not confident that the way you live your life says that for you. Every person has the means of “self -expression” of who they are at their disposal. It’s called “my actions.”

  • I don’t have any tattoos yet, but when I turn 18 I plan on getting some. My sister and I are actually planning on getting matching tattoos as like a sister thing. (: I think tattoos are great if they’re meaningful to the person that gets them, but if they’re just random? Kinda not worth it. Tattoos are works of art & our skin is like a canvas to be decorated.

  • idk. people get them because they like them? seems to be the reasoning here lol.

i don’t have any. i used to want a ton of them, i even had them all planned out. but i never had the money to get them and i’m glad i didn’t. for me it was a phase i was going through but they’re too permanent. i want to have a career one day and the tats i wanted wouldn’t have allowed me to get the kind of job i want.
personally i do feel this is a big mistake a bunch (not all) of young kids make. they get all these super visible, not easily hidden tattoos and then complain when a company won’t hire them. companies have standards, kids need to learn that at a young age. if you don’t meet those standards you will not be hired.

  • i wanna get one!  I would get a chinese character ‘strength’. it does represent something significant in your life i guess

  • To quote a line from MASH – “It’s the common mans way  of investing in art”

  • To me a tattoo is an ugly ink stain.

  • Wow.  That article mixed with some of these judgmental responses is actually mind numbingly stupid.  I’m hoping that person who wrote the article isn’t a real journalist, seriously, they’re supposed to be unbiased plus tattooed people and non-tattooed people aren’t at war.  I have 2 tattoos and have plans for 6 to 8 more all in easy to cover areas.  I see them as beautiful artwork and admire seeing people with tattoos.  I always preferred them to people with boring looking skin.  That’s just my thoughts.

  • @grizzlybearr - your the only person who answered the question..everyone else just went on a rant on how horrible tattoo’s are…

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - Thank the deities you’re here to tell people what their body is and is not for. If only everyone was as intelligent and enlightened as you are.

  • @Six_Days_Divided_by_Blondville - Yeah and one “Action” is having a design placed on their body. Do you read what you write before posting or do you just go nuts on the keyboard and hope for the best? Some people get symbols to remember loved ones, or represent trials they’ve endured. Quit acting like a know-it-all snob and generalizing a group of people over your own oversight and intellectual shortcomings, thanks.

  • Who cares? Not me.

  • @PoetMcChick - Seriously NOT trying to offend nor start anything because I absolutely LOVE ink but when you said, ‘

Type of person that would have tattoos”???? It makes me cringe because

Thats the type of thing that the “”Type that wouldn’t have tattoos”" would say.

There are so many diferent types of people that have tattoos.

  • No tattoos for me,    even though some females like a man with a tattoo.

  • @ALovingAdversary - Someday I hope you get a tattoo that says “I love my mojo”

  • My father’s arms are covered in special forces and medic tattoos. I used to wash his arms, like my mother washed mine. Grab a napkin, get it wet, and scrub. He’d ask, ” baby girl, what are you doing?” and smile at me. I’d say, ” trying to get the marker off.” they explained it was a tattoo. Every day since I’d take a sharpie to my dolls and my arms. Those tattoos were memories for him. Some heart breaking, some extremely happy. They represented what he went through to make it to that point and who he lost along the way.

When I turned 18 I considered a tattoo, but I felt I didn’t truly know what I wanted. I ended up waiting until I was 23. I got two. They are on my wrists. One is an 8-bit life bar that is only half filled. Which represents not only my love for games but the people who got me interested in them. My father and I played arcade games and so did my cousin and I. My dad is a very angry person and shunned me soon after those memories formed. I got it to remember the good times. The half filled part of it, represents that I have been knocked down hard.  Hard enough that I should of backed down, taken an easier road.  I didn’t/don’t.  Emotionally…..I should be dead inside.  I refuse.  I smile and laugh and enjoy life.  Physically…I was dealt a half shitty card.  I can’t go outside very often and I have arthritis in my shoulder and hand and I have bad knees.  I still go outside against Dr. orders.  I got hiking, swimming, canoeing, I play sports.  Even at “half health.”

The other is a shutter. An aperture. Though everyone who plays games associates it with portal. (slightly amused) I never wanted to be a photographer. I felt it was like drawing to me. Foreign. People being kind when looking at my work. Then I met my now best friend and she encouraged me. She didn’t know me at the time and truly loved my work. It gave me the heart to try. So I did. I’m the happiest behind a lens.
I’m getting another back piece for two other members of my family who made me who I am today. Tattoos aren’t ugly. People who have them aren’t. They wear their stories on their sleeves (quite literally), not afraid to share them.  I got mine on my wrists to prove that.  I’ve only received one negative statement…and that was from my Grandmother.  If I do get any though…I won’t mind.  They are badges of honor for me.

  • @QuantumStorm - No no…that’ll be yours.

  • @ALovingAdversary - I can’t, because I don’t have the mojo! You doooo

  • I got my tattoos because I had a lot to say but didn’t feel like talling about it.

  • Self expression? Art form?

  • @RazielV - Translation: I have a tattoo. You hurt my feelings.

  • Tats are too mainstream.

  • @QuantumStorm - Is it bad that a twisted version of that song from Labyrinth popped in my head?

  • Tattoos seem to have become an expression of feminine sexuality over the last twenty or so years. Men who got a tattoo after 1990 are invariable homosexual.

  • @voodoo_flower_child - Yeah. I was genuinely surprised at some of the adjectives used here. I mean, I get if you don’t find it attractive, but DAYUM. lol

I have one and not all tattoo’s are necessarily attractive to me, but I’m not going to call you dirty for it. LOL XD

  • @ctaretz - I really liked your response! :)

  • some get it for looks. some earn their tatts. most dont understand what that means tho.

  • @SKANLYN - men who worry about how other men look… worry about other men.

  • My tattoos are my life story.

  • I have three tattoos. Two you could cover up with a quarter, and none of them are you able to see unless I want you to see them. I absolutely adore them. I’m not really into the “bigger” tattoos on girls, but I don’t see anything wrong. Your body is yours, and nobody elses opinion should matter.

I’m only against tattoos when they have no meaning. Mine each have a special meaning to me. They are there as reminders of things. People who are like “Oh I’m going to go get a random Disney character or barb wire because that’s the cool thing to do” are idiots, in my book. Have a reason people.

  • People get tattoos for many reasons: self expression, wanting to have something on them with meaning (maybe it inspires them or reminds them of something they went through in their life), wanting to have a permanent accessory, etc.

God, I hate it when people bitch about tattoos with no meaning. Why does it matter to you? So I’m an idiot for wanting something simple that I thought looks cute? I don’t know where people get the idea that tattoos NEED to have meaning, as if tattoos are some kind of special thing. They really aren’t that special. @AshortL -

  • @xXxlovelylollipop , @sittingtyping said it best. @TheGuyyouD0ntKnow I respect the fact that your skin is not a canvas but mine is ^_^

I have 7 thus far, I think I’ll stop after a few more. Mine are all personal and although the orginal ”ideas” behind them may change, the meanings they have and my decision to get them remains the same. I wouldn’t be suprised if @sugar_mama is right lol “trends”

    Peace and Love

  • @Baseballchik138 - i know what you mean!!! i don’t think i could get one..

  • My rose tat on the outside of my left ankle, was designed by my son. We had a mother-son bonding one day when he was home on leave from Afghanistan. He also got himself a tat. I’m 90% sure I won’t get another one. But this time we spent together, and the reason behind it, is a cherished memory in my heart.

  • I think to wear our souls on the outside. (personally, I rather hide it though)

  • part of me wants one but another part of me just wants to keep my skin unmarked. because I don’t really have a real reason to get one (not saying that everyone with a tattoo has a reason though.. lol) so I would feel silly trying to explain it to people if there was no real meaning behind it. Besides, I feel like I can just make a t-shirt with it or put it on canvas and that would be good enough for me :)

  • apparently I’ve not yet ever felt a good enough reason.

  • I want to get a UV triforce on my left hand and an interrobang behind my right ear.  They are small and easilyhidden but I like the self expression and I like knowing that my body is something that  I control and can mark up.

If I get married I want a tattoo ring, I want to be 110% in my promise and it is safer around an assembly line line than an actual ring.

  • @TiredSoVeryTired - I’m dying to get some tattoos.  I just need a pile of money to fall into my lap first.

  • It’s difficult to get away with wearing your favorite t-shirt every day because of the smell and the wear.  Tattoos solve that problem nicely.

Of course, I just wash my t-shirt regularly and replace it when its worn.

  • I got mine to piss off my mom. She kicked me out, and so I got a tattoo so she knew that she no longer ran my life. I still don’t regret it. it at least means something to me, and my parents and I have actually grown closer together, and they let me make my own decisions.

  • I’m really surprised at how many negative reactions there are to tattoos. I didn’t know they were so hated on these days. I’ve always been fascinated by them, always wanted one, since I was a little kid. I think they tell a story about who a person is, like scars do, except the person gets to choose what it looks like, which we don’t get with scars.

My tattoos all have a great deal of meaning to me, and they are very like scars. They are me trying to make visible and permanent something etherial that has affected me deeply. The people close to me who have tattoos, tell me the stories behind theirs, and they seem to have similar significance. I really do it for totally personal reasons, not for pretty, not to draw attention (most of mine are not where anyone will see), just for me.

  • I got a tattoo because it had important meaning to me. In fact, no one would even know I had one unless I ran around in bra/undies/bathing suit.
I work in a corporate environment where, while body art is acceptable, it should not be visible.

  • I love tattoos. Currently I have three starting at my wrist traveling up. A small heart, a trisklion symbol & my Gemini symbol. Each means something deep & personal. I think if you get a tattoo it should have some sort of deep meaning behind it. Even if others can’t or won’t understand it. I never saw ink as a form of rebellion to be honest..just a form of self-expression that a majority of others happened to frown upon.

  • @the_rocking_of_socks - I got one of mine for $20.  It was a charity drive.  But yeah, save up for it.  It’ll also help you to be sure of what you want!

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - Thank God you’re here to tell people how to take care of their bodies!!!! (PS: I’ve been considering getting the entire Lord’s Prayer inked on my back in Sicilian, along with a giant fuck-off crucifix around my neck, because fuck you, I’m Catholic and proud of it.)

  • @z_stands_for - What I had meant by that was what people’s previous misconceptions of what a person who would have a lot of tattoos should look and act like.  You know, the older generation, CEOs of companies who have been working hard for 40 years and are close to retirement…they wouldn’t see me as the type that have tattoos, but if they were to read about someone who had as many tattoos and piercings as I had, they would assume that I were lazy and looked terrible and covered head to toe.  All about misperceptions and preconceived notions.  Luckily, they’re dissolving, but some people still have them.

  • I have two tattoos.  They are visual, symbolic forms of my personal characteristics.  I’m an artistic person, so I enjoy many forms of art, tattoos being one of them.  However, I was smart enough to realize we do still have social stigmas associated with them, so I got them put in places where they would be covered by normal clothing.  I spent a lot of time deciding on what I wanted and have never regretted getting them.  (Also, when I got them, I was rebelling against anyone.  When my mom found out I got one she was all excited and wanted to see it.)

  • I appreciate tattoos as an art form, but I’m one who would only ever get one if it had a real meaning to me.  I feel like tattoos for tattoos sake just aren’t for me.  It’s a personal preference–some people just like to get them.  Honestly, I love mine and I know that my parents hated it when I got it but they’ve gotten over it because there was a very specific reason I got mine.  There’s just something I love about seeing it every day and having it to remind me that I can make it through anything that’s thrown at me.  I think many people feel the same way so there’s absolutely no reason to get hateful towards people who chose to express themselves through tattoos.

  • I got mine when I was younger but I sometimes wish I had not. When they say ‘now remember, this will be permanent…they’re not kidding. They do tend to remind me of the times I was going through and the person I was when I got them though…

  • I don’t have any, I don’t plan on getting one either. But I like just a few tats on a guy. I think it’s sexy on men. Back to the question, lol, all my friends that do have them, say it’s because it means something.

  • When I got my tattoo last year, it definitely was driven by a desire to rebel.  But I also wanted to get something permanent to symbolize a difficult but important part of my life, and I’m glad I did.  I had the tattoo picked out for two years before I got it, and the week that I got it was hellacious….so I went fuck it, I’m going to get it now.

  • Tattoos gotten out of rebellion I think are the ones that should never have been gotten; what are you going to tell your children and grandchildren, “oh yea, grandma got that because the MAN was pressing down hard on my civil liberties and I will not be chained!”? But on a serious note, I think that tattoos can be beautiful, expressive, and meaningful.

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - Kinda harsh don’t you think? Tattoos don’t make people stupid. It takes a lot of guts to make your body a canvas.

  • Although I’m not too fond of the idea of tattoos, people have a right to do whatever they want to their bodies. Most of the times I’ve asked a friend why they got a tattoo, they always say “because it looks cool!” or “because I felt like it!”. After hearing the same answer from different people, I just got tired of asking and came to the conclusion that everyone enjoys a little pain and color on their skins.

  • I don’t have any but it looks hot on some other people depending on what tattoo designs. one guy, who I knew that had tattoo sleeves said that one reason is that it is a conversation starter, and sure enough, I asked him about his tatts and he showed me his tatts upclose and personal then he showed me more tatts that he had on other parts of his body and before I knew it, I saw him half naked, and later bucknaked he doesn’t have tatts on his inner thigh lol or his privates but somehow got naked anyway. it just happened while viewing his tatts. that’s why he got tatts

  • @RazielV - @ItsAll_A_LoveWar - @bloggicus_maximus -

It’s hardly a question on whether or not permanently scarring your body with ink is a a purpose of the body itself. Regardless, my statement was based on anger and personal reasons which none of you have anything to do with. Apologies for said anger.

(Though thank you ItsAll_A_LoveWar for being the least rude of the lot.)

  • no tattos for me either!

  • I’ve always liked the idea of getting a tattoo, a lot actually; but I’ve never been able to think of a single thing I’d want on my skin forever–no words or images I can think of seem to really represent who I feel I am, which seems to me to be the point of tattoos, to say something about who you are.

  • My step daughters have tatoos but I do not. Nice to meet you, I have heard much about you.

  • I love how those without tattoos, “hate” on those who do. lol But,
you never see those with tattoos going…”I hate the sight of
un-tattooed skin” and “not having tattoos shows a sign of weakness.” or, “those who don’t have tattoos are fucking stupid.”

It’s a choice. If you don’t like them…don’t look at them.

    Very amusing to me.

I was told I was going to Hell because I have tattoos.

I love my tattoos. :) They all have meaning…minus the dinosaur (well I love dinosaurs, but it’s not symbolic…)

  • i’m sorry but i don’t think anyone who doesn’t have a tattoo can understand why anyone would have a tattoo and vice versa. I have an angle on my right shoulder blade with 3 birds and my great grandma’s initials. i’ve wanted this tattoo since i was 12 but i waited until i was almost 19 to get it. i’ve had it for over a year and every time i look over my shoulder i love my tattoo a little more. if getting a tattoo is not  your thing then don’t get one, simple as that. yes, they hurt, they are expensive, but so is having children, does that mean that having children is a fad? no. does that mean that people are forced to have children, they choose. just like getting a tattoo. i can make not getting a tattoo sound as ridiculous as that article made getting one. do what you want, its your life.

  • I was thinking of getting one.. To leave a physical mark to remember a memory than always having it in my mind.

  • @tru_indo - I could care less what you wear gay boy. I was just stating an observation.

  • I’m not a fan of the single cursive word everyone feels the need to get.

    believe

    dream

    courage

Sometimes I want “you’re, not your“.
And a bow over my ass.

  • @Six_Days_Divided_by_Blondville - I actually don’t have any tattoos. What I do have is the common sense to not spew pseudo-psychology/philosophy on something I know nothing about. I guess I shouldn’t be too hard on you; not everyone was blessed with the gift of understanding, empathy, and the ability to think outside of ignorant bias. Cheers on thinking you have a grasp on the human mind enough to think I was personally invested enough to be “harmed” by your remarks. <3

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - Want respect, give respect. Being fair, I was holding back being rude, hence the HEAVY sarcasm of my original response. Regardless, there’s little point in taking your past out on others, and very unfair to do so.

  • @RazielV - Who said I wanted respect? I was being rude with the intention of being rude. My commenting on some else refraining from rudeness was simply an acknowledgement of their actions, regardless of the position of mine. I really didn’t/don’t care about being kind or fair in this moment and I’m not asking for anyone else to be. I am simply able to respect someone for NOT returning rudeness with more rudeness.

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - -yawns- I really don’t care about your song and dance excuses. Whatever point you’re trying to make is entirely irrelevant to the fact that you’re being a callous child to others over some long since past wrong (supposedly). Get over it and yourself. Or, at the very least take a few seconds to remove your head from your ass so you can join the rest of the civilized world long enough before replanting it so far deep in your rectum you resume believing in your own bullshit.

  • @RazielV - What the fuck are you even going on about? I wasn’t even making an excuse; I SAID that I was rude and I wasn’t trying to justify it. You insult me like a fucking hypocrite and your insults don’t even have warrant to the conversation or anything I said.

I made ONE comment where I was intentionally rude, and somehow you have an entire definition of my character? What a laugh. The irony is that I get in about one fight a year whereas I see you on every fucking blog post fighting with someone. Who needs to get over themself again?
Oh, and let’s not forget your random assessments that also had no basis. I said “Personal reasons” and somehow you interpret that as ”long since past wrong”? Who has their head in their ass? At least I don’t make up bullshit like you do.

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - Methinks he dost protest too much. Let’s look at the chain of conversation: you make a snide and unintelligent quip about people with tattoos. I respond. You off-handedly mention some past transgression that warranted your initial comment then offer a series of excuses about your behaviour as if that matters to anyone. I call you out on your childish behaviour and you in turn throw a tantrum.

“Personal reasons” COULD mean a number of things, but considering your negative attitude this entire time–in particular towards people with tattoos, coupled with the babbling nonsense you posted in previous comments–it’s a safe conclusion that at some point you were wronged in a way that involved someone with a tattoo. It’s called deductive reasoning. If it were a positive experience I highly doubt it would warrant such childish vehemence; unless you’re just batshit insane. Not ruling that out yet.

Fact: You’re acting like a child regardless of what “personal reasons” means to you. Grow the fuck up. You think your “personal reasons” warrants your behaviour, making you quite full of yourself. My getting into random arguments has no equation to being full of myself. Now if I were going around trumpeting myself as the Third Coming of Christ, you might have a point.

tl;dr: Quit your fucking whinging you baby and pull your head out of your ass.

  • @RazielV -  You interpret things in your own, demented ways and act as if your word is law. I NEVER MADE AN EXCUSE. In fact, I was APOLOGIZING for being rude because I regretted making my original comment. That’s what I do. You, on the other hand, continue with rudeness and bullshit that you pulled from your ass. Where the fuck were my so called excuses?

And once again, you yourself just stated that “personal reasons” can mean anything, and yet again you once again say “past transgression”. My “personal reasons” have nothing to do with the past. It has to do with me being angry at tattoos.
You know what? I’m sorry for making my comment. Who’s the child? You spit insult after insult as if it makes you better than me and somehow I AM THE CHILD? That’s the way of hypocrites I suppose. Ignore your own actions in every way and continue to criticize for things that don’t exist.
    Fuck off.

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - At no point previously did you apologize for acting like a snot-nosed child. Not a single comment you made before even inferred to an apology. It’s only in THIS comment that you actually apologize and frankly it doesn’t even sound legit at this point since you’re in the middle of throwing the mother of all tantrums. Sit the fuck down, dunk your head in some ice water, and calm your shit.

I never said my word was law. The term “deductive reasoning” does not equate “carved in stone”. It’s merely the logical observational technique I used to assert my opinion, of which I have been consistent on it being. AN OPINION. You’re so busy wrapping yourself up in this childish delusion of being wronged, and an equally childish, overly defensive piss-fest that you think you can twist my words to give your babbling and hissy fit some credence. I’m open to being wrong, hence why I said there are possible other definitions. However, I backed up my statement through my observations. If the conclusion is wrong, it’s wrong, but that does not negate the progression of reasoning.

I told you: Rudeness begets rudeness. You want better treatment? Act like a fucking adult and show some humility. I’ve never said or felt I’m better than you and even now I still do not. You interpreted it that way, which is entirely on you. I’m merely giving you what you gave others. You don’t like it? I’m willing to bet they didn’t either. Remember that. Grow the fuck up and start showing a little more respect for others and learn how to shut the fuck up once in awhile.

  • My tattoo is to commemorate my current recovery from my eating disorder and to remind that each day that goes by, I get stronger and stronger and learn more. Everyone gets tattoos for different reasons. Mine is on my back in the middle where basically nobody can see it. It took 2 hours. OUCH. Oh, did I mention that it was my very first tattoo EVER. Ouch, ouch, ouch. I totally want more though.

  • @RazielV - Wow – look at all the people you had to set straight! We’re indebted to your “gift of understanding” as well as your very high estimation of yourself. Was it that or your “empathy” that inspired you to post a pic of a bowl of tomato soup, making a joke about it being the fetus recently miscarried by the wife of a fellow xangan? As for your lack of investment, just look at this page alone – one post after another, some paragraphs long, of your “indifference.” Xanga is a public service – it gives people like you a place to stay out of the way of those of us who go out into the world each day and have our words and actions affect people and events.

Respond if you like, but I’m done. I have things to do while you type in your little boxes.

  • @Six_Days_Divided_by_Blondville - Oh how cute. Another attempt at sarcasm. It’s nice that you failed to mention that the wife of the Xangan in question (TheoDan of this exact page) did NOT suffer through a miscarriage and that my post was a build off of his April Fools Day post. Perhaps that would be because it would undermine your pithy and silly attempt at vilifying me? As for the matter of “investment”, which I assume you refer to my comment on not being emotionally invested in your opinion, I don’t need to be emotionally invested to post a viewpoint. Fallacy and arguments do not make good bedfellows I’m afraid.

Awh, and here you presume to know what I do in my spare time. -slow clap- Again, thank goodness you are here to provide us a never-ending reservoir of wisdom and thoughtful input. I’m not sure what we as a society would be able to do were it not for you and your obviously intelligent statements of 100% True Facts.

    Enjoy living in your delusions.

  • @RazielV - My but we take our little self seriously. It’s so cute I could just pinch your cheek, punkin’. You’re right, I don’t follow “Theo Dan” like a tame little xangan sycophant – I’m ashamed and plan to do something about it just as soon as I lose my self-esteem. I love your little asides – “slow clap” . . . “yawn” – they make your adorably affected pomposity just that much more precious. So articulate, witty, original and defenisive. You got one thing right, there at the end of the first paragraph – “I’m afraid.”

Given your immense perceptiveness I’m sure you know I’ve been goading you. Never hard to spot the ones of which to make a bit of sport. Just look for the ones with the most posts, and if they’re all verbose and several paragraphs long just start tossing him goodies and watch him dance. You didn’t disappoint.

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - You’ve never seen my husband with sharpies. He’s drawn some pretty cool stuff on my chest, back, and arms. (I wish we could find a better pen or marker to use, though.)

Largely, whether people want to admit it or not, I think they get tattoos to “prove that they can” or to conform to anti-conformity. Personally, I don’t like most tattoos. Obviously, there are a LOT that are just not my taste (Pokemon, Mario, green monsters, etc.) I have seen many that were poorly done (IMO), and I’ve seen a lot of script tattoos that I couldn’t read because the lettering was bad. They fade and you can’t tell what they are anymore. My uncle had a bulldog but it looked more like a big, dark green stain on his arm. My aunt’s neighbor had a dalmation tattoo, but the white wouldn’t stay. She had it re-done multiple times, but it never stayed. So she wound up with a dalmation outline w/ spots. I really dislike portraits and writing for tattoos.
My husband wants tattoos, but I really would prefer his body stay ink-free (I love him the way he is, so I guess maybe it’s natural that I prefer he stay that way?). I relented that if he could work it out so that it looked right, he could get a very specific design. (Not going to share because I’d be upset if someone else did this first)

  •   I have tattoos and will be getting more simply because it is my choice to express myself through my body. They are an important part of who I am. I’m sure everyone has their own reasons for getting them, but really- it’s still a little bit of a rebellious act :-3

  • @VampireOfSeduction - ”conform to anti-conformity” – That’s a wonderfully succinct way to express something that applies to hundreds of things. I hope you don’t mind if I steal it.

  • My disaster psych teacher said that some of the people she knows get tattoos in order for their bodies to be identified in case of disaster.

  • @Six_Days_Divided_by_Blondville - Feel free. I’m probably not the first to have said that.

  • @SKANLYN - ppl see the world not as it is, but as they are. building off that, u dont know anything about me but make assumptions. therefore, your opinions dont matter. get better man!

  • @tru_indo - My opinion obviosly matters to you. I made a comment that you could have easily ignored. Instead you decided to respond, making what you thought was a clever statement. It wasn’t. And I still believe dudes with tattoos are gay and only a very long and detailed response might convince me otherwise.

  • None for me, thanks. People have their reasons and I respect their decision. But why, would anyone damage their skin for a poorly drawn Hello Kitty tattoo?

  • I got my first one because I had just left an abusive relationship and they had always told me I couldn’t have one.  It was a big “fuck you.”
