  • Porn Video In a Human Sexuality Class

A teacher is coming under fire for showing a sex video in a college human sexuality class.

The video is called “Advanced Sexual Techniques” and is a graphic educational video of people having sex.  The teacher thought it was relevant to the class and the students were warned there would be content in the class that people might find objectionable.

Watching the video is not required for the class.  The Dean of the College is standing by the professor.  Here is the link:  Link

  • Anything passes for education in America these days. I’m going to tell my kid, “College is a god damn expensive waste of time; here’s a free library card.”

  • Eh, I don’t know. I took a human sexuality class last semester and she didn’t show us videos, but she did show us graphic pictures. I think if this was in high school, it’d be different, but for college kids, I don’t see the big deal.

  • I think it should be mandatory, personally.

  • I guess but you can stay home and watch it online without having to pay tuition.

  • Guess I went into the wrong field in college….

  • Human sexuality classes are not appropriate for college. Start off with some hot breath, and next thing you know you’re nursing five welfare babies while starting fires and grubbing about the republican party.

    Bad road to go down.

  • If it isn’t mandatory then why does anyone care so much? You know what you’re there for… Kinda… WTF is that class about?! lol

  • It’s just some enterprising educator trying to make learning fun.

  • The title suggests it’s an educational video, and not porn. Either way, I don’t see a problem with it. Why are you taking a human sexuality class in the first place if material such as the video makes you uncomfortable?! It’s not like it would be a big surprise. Maybe it would be inappropriate in a required class such as WRIT101…..but not in this class.

  • Well, I’m sure it’s more popular than a class on advanced quantum physics.

  • yes. we’re in college. we’re adults. and it wasn’t being FORCED on anyone.

people seriously complained about this? if you don’t like the content don’t take the course!

  • It would be a different issue if we were talking about middle or highschool here. But they’re all adults … (I assume).

  • I wish I got to see porn in my class

  • If we had to watch a baby being pushed out of its mama’s vagina in a high school sex ed class, then why shouldn’t college students be allowed to watch a video on advanced sexual techniques

  • It’s college. What the fuck is there to complain about? I will just never understand the fight against nudity and human sexuality but the embrace of horrific violence.

  • This sounds like the professor showing a video version of the kama sutra. I’m not sure I find anything wrong on this one.

  • A class is being taught on the evolution of pornography at my college…
I understand the allure, but seriously don’t understand the purpose. Why pay 60k a year/20k a quarter/5k a class to take a class on this? Is that anything that you think a potential employer would like to see/will add to your skill set when evaluating your transcript?

    *eyeroll*

  • idk, in my mind I think people take a human sexuality class so they can kill 2 birds w/one stone: scratch off breathe requirement credit and bypass using too much bandwidth

  • I took a human sexuality class and we watched a video by playboy about tantric sex. We were all over 18 and those taking the class through dual enrollment had to get parental consent. We were allowed to opt out if we didn’t want to see it. The way I view it is I paid for the class with my own money. It was a class about human sexuality, so I went into it within the right context. People getting upset about this are just ridiculous.  No one forced those people to take the class.

  • @syedanoor - Just because you don’t understand a class about the evolution of pornography doesn’t really mean anything to anyone other than yourself…  that’s why you made the decision not to take it. It’s their money, let them spend it how they like.

  • YES. This should be in every class.

  • @Saridactyl - I’m not dictating anyone’s choice to spend their money, I’m expressing my own opinion that I believe it’s a waste of money, especially when it’s usually parents/scholarship funds doling out the money and not the student himself/herself.  I believe college/university is instilled to become a more educated and productive person of society, and don’t believe that taking a class on pornography achieves that in any way.

  • They should ban all films from college classes just so that adults don’t get all offended by their professors.  Seriously, in a college class nobody should be batting an eye considering this has been happening since at least 1992 when I took Human Sexuality and we watched both real “educational” sex videos and teddy bear/stuffed animal porn.

  • **But the whole “squirting female orgasm” video was kinda freaky.

  • The only way Americans will ever learn anything is through porn. The professor has the right idea, he just needs to incorporate calculus and shit into the banging too.

  • I’m thinking about not letting my teddy bear watch baseball anymore, not that he ever did. I dunno… I just heard that baseball is evil, so of course it is. I wouldn’t be able to rub his blankspot anymore if anything happened to him.

  • Why is it that all this college drama occurs at other schools for things that happen at my school too? lol I guess South Dakota isn’t as “prude-ish” as people think we are. lol

  • My daughter is from Northwestern, she wasn’t in this class, but the human sexuality teacher there had two people demonstrate how to give an orgasum, in other words they had sex in front of everyone, it was voluntary to attend but really controversial.  I thought made a great school with a good rep. look bad.  I though it was unnecessary and I think that about this case too.  You can study the kinsey report, learn the biology of men and women in  books and lectures, without having to watch.  That’s just not something that needs to be done.

  • @sometimestheycomebackanyway - What you are not advocating censorship?@TheMushyPear - your quote is typical:”Human sexuality classes are not appropriate for college. Start off with some hot breath, and next thing you know you’re nursing five welfare babies while starting fires and grubbing about the republican party.” People who go to College do have a tendency to not be welfare folks.@Saridactyl - I like your reply”I took a human sexuality class and we watched
a video by playboy about tantric sex. We were all over 18 and those
taking the class through dual enrollment had to get parental consent. We
were allowed to opt out if we didn’t want to see it. The way I view it
is I paid for the class with my own money. It was a class about human
sexuality, so I went into it within the right context. People getting
upset about this are just ridiculous.  No one forced those people to
    take the class.”

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - Fuck that, I’d take advanced QP over porn any day.

  • The video wasn’t mandatory. It’s supposed to be “educational.” It’s a college course, meaning ADULTS. And finally, you pretty much decide on what courses to take in college and therefore if someone was to be offended by such material, they shouldn’t have taken that course.

  • what the heck???

    they call that education??

porn is fabrication, it is not real…

the prof should invite two students for some real illustration in front of the class

  • Wasn’t there a similar case like this where the teacher actually engaged in a sexual act in front of the class?  I can’t remember if she stimulated herself with a sex toy or engaged in intercourse with a man..  Any way, that woman was a pioneer.

Not mandatory for the class = Not a big deal  I respect the school for standing behind her (no pun intended)

  • What is a “Porn video” anyway?

  • Oh, boo hoo. They’re adults and in college, and the video isn’t even mandatory.

People need to stop getting their panties in a bunch over stupid things.

  • I see nothing wrong here.

  • Sex, sex, sex, sex, it seems those who are not getting any like to talk about it the most. Dan, is your sex life over?

  • We had to watch explicit porn videos in my Women Sexuality class… Real videos not some educational staff, so personally I don’t understand why is all the fuss about. If you are not comfortable learning about sex don’t sign up for sex classes, period.

  • Why would someone object? To say they are narrow minded, old fashioned, a prude is an easy assumption. Each one has their own reasons for objecting. Here are mine: First, this is a state college. By paying tuition you do not cover the entire cost of your classes. A goodly portion of the cost is paid by the taxpayers. So, as a taxpayer, I have a right to have an opinion about how my tax dollars are spent to educate my fellow citizens. Second, the study of human sexuality is to understand, not necessarily to experience, what is involved in human sexuality. What I see is far more real and impactful that what I imagine from reading in a book, and what I experience is even more impactful than what I see. By including an explicit video, the instructor has taken learning from assimilating information to a visual experience and, likely, a physical response to human sexuality. Of course people respond physically to watching someone else have sex (otherwise why would there be a multi-billion dollar porn industry?). Why must that be included, even optionally, in a class?  I see no reason that my tax dollars should provide that experience for others.

  • They are in college, I don’t see a problem. Probably over half of that class watched porn in their dorm at least once that week. If it were required it would be a little different, but even then what did you sign up for? I bet the people objecting to this think you have to close your eyes throughout each sexual experience…

  • @Saridactyl – people are just ridiculous o__o

  • Of course there is nothing wrong with a college professor showing a porno and the dean of the college standing right next to them..its good company! the only thing missing is the popcorn, HA!

  • As I am not a sex professor I don’t know what exactly the use way, but education isn’t banning reality. It’s a bit like being offended by evolutional theories when you take a biology class.

  • @lilblucherrygrl - You don’t understand liberals?

  • @sozo2damax - The greater part of a college student’s education is paid by the student. Get it right.

  • Isn’t that kind of thing usually why people sign up for a Human Sexuality class?

  • pssfff. That’s nothing.

Northwestern had a LIVE sex-demonstration. with toys and everything

    http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/4099633-418/northwestern-defends-live-sex-demo-on-campus.html

  • if it’s sex ed then that’s part of it !

  • @momofjenmatt - agreed. that’s taking it a bit far.

  • was it educational? We had this topic in Human Sexuality class but never watched porn. We watched opinions of what is appropriate and what is not and where the limit is to sex. It’s important to know when a person has consented or is just going along with it. Then we talked a lot about sexually transmitted diseases. These were educational.

  • I dodn’t see a problem with it. Make love – not war

  • @TiredSoVeryTired - Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! What a hilarious cooment! I’m still on the floor.

  • @syedanoor - Its not a class on Pornography. Its a class on sexual well being and advancement. To be quite honest, if you look at the divorce rate within America, you can see that many many people are marrying one another. These people then go on to advance in age and sexually may lose interest in each other. If they had learned to keep their marriage sexually active they may have been able to bypass their old age and continue in a mutually satisfying, happy relationship. Teach this course for all who are interested and we may see a diminished divorce rate!

  • @Janeismyname12 - That comment was actually referring to a class on the evolution of pornography being taught at my college (which I had mentioned in another comment). I still don’t believe that most people would take the class with the hopes that it would benefit their own lives in the future. But different strokes for different folks!  As far as the divorce rate goes, I think that problem is deeply rooted in other problems, often times much different from satisfied sexual lives of the couple.

  • [Is a porn video appropriate for a college human sexuality class?]

Porn videos are appropriate for HIGH SCHOOL sex ed/health classes.
Provided there’s health security, no hanky-panky, and they subsequently train on contraception/condoms.

…definite adds a new dimension to the phrase, “Partner up”
