  • Breastfeeding in Uniform

Two women are coming under fire for breastfeeding while in military uniform.  (I like the double whammy on the left).

Some people think it is wrong because they are in military uniform.  Here is the link:  Link

Do you think it is inappropriate to show the women breastfeeding in uniform?

  • Intelligent Xangans are Less Likely To Believe In Global Warming

A study showed that the more knowledgeable a person is about science, the less likely they are to be concerned about global warming.  Here is the link:  Link

This makes sense because most of the people on xanga that I have known that believe in global warming tend to be a little slow when it comes to facts about science.  Most of what they post about science gives the impression that they probably just google their answers.

So you don’t have to listen to their condescending tone anymore.  You can just shake your head and know they are just uneducated when it comes to science.

Do you tend to think that those who believe in global warming are naive?

  • Could You Beat Justin Bieber in a Fight?

Justin Bieber is wanted by the police because a photographer complained that Justin “roughed” him up.

The photographer was taken to the hospital and treated.  Here is the link:  Link

Could you take Justin Bieber in a fight?

  • It’s The Economy Stupid

The unemployment rate is at 8.1% which is higher than it was 3 and a half years ago when President Obama was elected.  Here is the link:  Link

The federal deficit is at 15.7 trillion and growing at the fastest rate ever.  Here is the link:  Link

On the other hand, President Obama killed bin Laden.

Does President Obama deserve to be re-elected?

  • Learning To Learn

I must admit that I am a life time learner.  (This post was inspired by this pulse:  Link).  I spent most of my life learning.  It started when I was 3 and my parents dropped me off at preschool.  I went through school and then I went to college and then graduate school.

I realize some of you will are doing the same and need to learn faster.  I spent a great deal of time taking any program that taught me how to learn faster.

So here are a few of those programs:

    1.  Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics (I took this three times).

    2.  Mega Memory

I took every memory program I could find and read several memory books.

    3.  Memory in a Month

    4.  PhotoReading

    5.  Where There’s a Will There’s an A. (I took this a few times).

    6.  Reassess Your Chess (This isn’t about learning but his approach to gaining strategic advantages is important in learning and in life in general).

    7.  Sparks of Genius:  The 13 Thinking Tools of the World’s Most Creative People

There is rarely a day where I don’t utilize the skills described in “Sparks of Genius.”  The book is more about how to process the information you use.

So hopefully this will get you started.  I hope you will take every single program you can find that teaches you to learn more information.

Anyone have one to add to my list?

  • Friending Your Rapist on Facebook

A man was accused of rape by a 15 year old girl.  About ten years later, she admitted he didn’t rape her.

He had already served five years in prison and had been released.  She admitted she lied and it was caught on video tape without her knowledge.  She didn’t want to clear him of the charges because she had received $1.5 million in a lawsuit from accusing him of rape.

She also friend requested him on Facebook after he was cleared of the charges.  Here is the link:  Link

In the article, it mentioned she will probably not be charged with a crime because she was only 15 when she accused him.

Should she spend time in prison for falsely accusing him of rape?

  • The Indescribable Complexity of Internet Friendship

I have always thought for most of my adult life that I am pretty good at making friends.  I tend to keep the same friends for years.  I tend to make wise choices about who I trust.

I must admit that I am not sure I have ever been able to get a handle on Internet friendships.  By Internet friendships I mean friendships that I make where I know the person only on the Internet.

I tend to misjudge the friendship. For example, on xanga I am always surprised when I read a relationship as friendship and then I happen by a post written about me by someone who acted like a friend.  In other words, I am not sure I can read friendship and loyalty on the Internet like I can in real life.  Maybe there are just an inordinate amount of dysfunctional people on the Internet.

I remember being friends with a guy on xanga.  He told me he was more open with me than he was with anyone in his real life.  Then one day someone forwarded a screenshot of a comment he made about me.  I remember just being shocked by the statement.  I guess it was naive.  But I tended to trust the person.  We used to IM almost every night.  (I know this sounds like a gay relationship in retrospect).

(Here is a photo to make up for the last gay sounding paragraph).

I was friends with a lady and we talked all the time.  We were good friends and I enjoyed the time we spent talking.  But then one day, she went sort of crazy.  She acted like I betrayed her trust by not talking to her for awhile when I was busy at work.   At no time did I feel different about our friendship.  I just got busy.

I think my approach in real life has been “friends for life” and I am not sure that approach works on the Internet when someone can shut down and remove everyone from their Internet life instantly.

It appears on the Internet that it is too easy to misunderstand a friendship.  You are never really sure whether the other person is rolling their eyes at you or if they have a smile on their face when your message pops up.  You can’t read their body language.  You can’t tell if you are making them mad when you are unaware that they really do care who becomes the next president.

I appreciate the friends I have made on the Internet but I also wonder if I am cut out for the short term mentality of Internet friendships.

  • The Difficulty of Being a Virgin

Olympic athlete Lolo Jones has said it is “extremely hard” to find a boyfriend because she is a virgin.  Here is the link:  Link

On the one hand, I can see how some guys would avoid a virgin because they feel they will not get any sex.  On the other hand, I have always thought guys found virgins more attractive.

Is it harder for a virgin to get a boyfriend?

  • A Xangaful Life

I must admit at times I wondered why I was still on xanga.  I wondered if I was even making a difference anymore.  I wondered if anyone would notice if I was gone.

Then I went to Starbucks tonight to buy a hot chocolate and I noticed they had brand new furniture.

Exactly one day after I posted about the crappy furniture there, they replaced it.  Here is the link:  Link  And they replaced it with all leather seats.

Then I noticed an article on buzzfeed.  They were talking about our old favorite social networks and where they were now.

They mentioned xanga and my site:

They took a screenshot of my article titled “The White Man’s Burden” on Top Blogs and mentioned it was the top post for the day.  Here is the link:  Link

It just hit me how awesome it is that people went from thinking of xanga as an old shrinking social network to thinking we are a bunch of racist.  And it just warmed my heart.

Clearly I really am making a difference.

  • Chairs and Germs

I was sitting in Starbucks tonight and I noticed there were two types of chairs.  Now at the risk of sounding like a germ phob, I will point out to you the type of chair I prefer.

First the chair I don’t like to sit in.  This chair is made out of upholstery.

Can you see how this type of chair would look as if it would carry more germs?

    Now look at this chair.

Do you see the leather seating?  It would appear to me that this is more likely to be clean.

We had to face this choice when purchasing a couch recently.

Can you see why I would be concerned about the couch above?

    Now the one I picked.

The above is almost the exact couch I picked.

I felt a leather couch would always feel and look clean.

Do you prefer a leather couch or a couch made of upholstery?
