  • ObamaCare

Well the Supreme Court has ruled that ObamaCare is constitutional.

You will now be given health care for free.  There will not be a tax increase because more people involved in the system causes health care to cost less resulting in savings.  (I know this makes no sense but I like saying it anyway).

Now lets take a little poll.

Do you currently have medical insurance?

  • Yes, but because of my pre-existing condition they’ve tried booting me a couple times. Now they can’t anymore. I’m glad that part of the health care law stood.

  • I don’t need it. My training in bullet avoidance tactics is pretty legit.

  • Not as of recently because it got expensive as fuck.

  • Yes….under my mom’s plan, but still :P

  • i am Canadian, so yes. Yes I do.

  • Woo! Free surgery!!!

  • Yes, I do now. But I went without for three years when the company I was working for went bankrupt and went out of business. My wife, who had several major health issues during that time can now be on my insurance and have those issues covered without being denied coverage for pre-existing conditions. After Obama is re-elected and all facets of the plan have been in place for two years (by 2016), America will have had time to get to used to a heath care plan that works and will demand that it stays in place regardless of what party takes office at that time.

  • Yes.

(I know this makes no sense but I like saying it anyway).  Not a lick o sense, pal Joey.

  • WAHOO! Now I can has care! ^________^

  • Free my ass – wait till you get your bill from the IRS

  • Yeah’ but I’m sure the poor people are grateful.

  • The nearest doctor that accepts Obamacare is a few hours away from me lol.  Oh whale.

  • I’m riding my dad’s insurance so yes, I do. However I get kicked off in three months and my current job doesn’t give me benefits since I’m not full-time so I have three months to find a new job, get benefits at this job, or go uninsured and hopefully never get rabies or accidentally cut my leg off with a chainsaw.

  • Yes, COBRA, which costs a boatload.

  • Yes, because insurance companies can’t deny me coverage for my preexisting conditions.

And don’t act like there wasn’t already half a dozen people between you and your benefits before. If I have to choose between that intermediary being a government whose main responsibility is to the people or private companies whose main responsibility is to profit margins, I’ll pick the government. America has the best health care in the world, if you can afford the top tier. For the other 95% of us, Canada’s system would probably treat us better.

  • Yes, through my husband’s job. And we’ve needed it this year, what with one thing and another.

  • Yes I do, because I live in Canada, where we have universal healthcare. Now if you Americans had followed our good example, you wouldn’t need all this fuss. ;)

  • @MCTCanadian - Sorry I didn’t see that you beat me to this, I said the same thing. :)

  • they insurance health now?

  • Yes. With Hub’s company.

  • No, we don’t–at least not for the adults. The kids are covered. However, we were planning to get insurance when Jason starts his new job, anyway. We just can’t afford it at his current job because it would cost half of his monthly income.

  • I do now. Thanks for paying for my gastric bypass, Dan.

  • The land i come from covers most everything. We are a kind people…

  • I don’t. And I’m jealous of all these Canadians.

  • @Shadowrunner81 - Im glad too! My mom and step dad would both not be able to get healthcare and stuff because of their pre existing conditions. I think it’s bull that they would rather see someone die, or be in debt.

I am under insurance right now.. Wanna know why? Obama Care. I work, live in my own appartment with my boyfriend, but my job doesn’t give health insurance…And I am glad that we still have it, although I wish it were Universal Healthcare… I used to live in Canada and now in the States, and I definitley prefer that, but atleast it’s something.

  • They passed it because it IS a tax. :P

    And I don’t have it.

  • No. But what difference does the constitution make since Obama declared DOMA unconstitutional yet he is doing nothing more then adding lip service to that????

  • Have you actually done any research or even understand the issue? Obamacare isn’t free universal healthcare as you explicitly say, it’s a mandate that forces individuals to purchase health insurance through a private insurer or through the govt or face a hefty fine. The whole intent of the act is supposedly to make medical care affordable by driving down costs and not allow private insurers to deny based on risk.  The debate remains how can the govt make healthcare more cost effective without a drop in quality compared to private insurance without spending an ungodly

Amount of money to provide it.  I don’t think the govt will be able to do it. Ever read about the va hospitals?   I predict that’s what We will end up getting.

  • Yes, through the Army. Now I wont have to worry about when my husband gets out! So happy to think we may find something affordable now. :)

  • @MCTCanadian - Yup, I do, too. Canuck here.

  • No. Healthcare isnt free. SCOTUS confirmed the individual mandate is unconstitutional, so they did an end-around, called it a “tax” and said they can do it. Biggest tax increase on the middle and lower class of this country in the history of the country.
Now you are forced to buy something you cannot afford, or the government will fine you (tax you) if you don’t.
We couldn’t afford Doctors, nurses, medicines, surgerys and tests and buildings and equipment. Now we get to pay for Doctors, nurses, medicines, surgerys and tests and buildings and equipment, and another bloated, inefficient government bureaucracy to administer it all. Nice.
Hope and change? Yep, come November.

  • Yes, but only temporarily, as I am in a residency at a hospital. I still havent gone to see a doctor yet though, first time I have had to do insurance and find a doctor for myself. I think part of me is scared I might have something (which will be found) and another part of me knows, even with insurance, I will still have to pay. Things would be so much easier if I didnt have so much student loan debt, perhaps after my residency, I will get a job with a salary, instead of a stipend, and money wont be so much of an issue.

  • Yes, and I pay a lot for it.

  • We own a business and cannot afford health insurance because of all of the other license fees/ taxes/ other insurance that the oh, so helpful goverment makes us pay. One of Obama’ls first actions in office (Cash for Clunkers) screwed up the whole industry we are in and we’ve been paying for it ever since.

  • I live in England, and the NHS has been wonderful here.

However, one needs to seriously keep notes and do the research to help the doctors help you.  I was finally able to now see a very competent doctor from within the group in the clinic. I now consider myself an amature medic researcher.

Everyone here in England pays into it, and everyone here uses it when it is needed.

I am not sure how it works out for those people who are unemployed or on benefits.

  • Yes I do. My company WAS paying my premiums too, but thanks to this crap they wont be able to afford that after next year…. Thanks!

  • Yay, fascism!!

(Hey, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Call me Unity Mitford.)

  • oh yea and there’s one thing Canadians can agree upon and that’s universal healthcare

  • Mr. Dan theologan.  Now, it is my understanding that you are a pastor guiding your sheep.  And you have always preached the gospel of earning your food, the shelter that protects you from the outside world, and that includes health insurance.  You have always preached the good word, that through one’s effort one can accomplish.  You alone Mr. Dan, are the most accomplished xangan, and should you leave, no one will ever be able to achieve what you have, which is, to get the comments and views for simply asking a question a toddler can ask his loving mother.  Noone can ever take your place, and you have been very consistent in your blogs, and, like the holy spirit, and hop weblog to weblog to get a good picture of what is going on in xangaland.  And that one time you mentioned me, you implied that I should be ignored.  Therefore I shall consult with my lawyers for defamation of character and the hurting of my business as I get far less views that before, thanks to you buddy.

p.s.  I want to mention Trunthepaige.  She wishes she could have your views.  And unlike you, she shares her innermost thoughts with her readers.  I don’t know how you achieved your fame, but, it kinda pisses me off that other’s can’t accomplish what you did.
The guy who used to troll,
    Rulerofmasons.

  • No, but I’m Canadian, not American. And I do have drug coverage because I’m on social assistance. But I really don’t have dental at all :| .

  • i’m surprised to read that so many people don’t have healthcare or have shitty healthcare. i dunno, i guess xanga opens your eyes to a lot of things.

having said that, yes we have healthcare. i didn’t growing up (my dad’s company never really offered it i guess) so i’m probably behind on vaccinations/boosters. i didn’t get routine dentist care or yearly well visits etc. but my husband’s job provides pretty good insurance and we’re all covered and we all get to see the doc regularly :)

  • For those who haven’t thought it out. Health insurance, is a form of socialism already. People pay in, and when the need arises, are paid for (gasp) out of the common fund! Universal health care just covers more people, including the people who were not allowed, for a whole host of reasons to “buy into” the previous socialist Private Insurance System.

wanna know what else. The people who pay for insurance are mostly supporting the med costs anyway, because the people who don’t have ins cant pay…so the money is coming from somewhere right? Ah, the insurance companies that the lucky people who have access to insurance pay into!

Let the poor people die? Let the old people go without care? those lazy slackers..hey wait Mom? Mom? but I can’t afford to pay for heart surgery…Mom…what’s going to happen to mom, this is an outrage! Oh wait, maybe decent health care for all isn’t such a bad idea. Everyone is about independence until they find themselves in need and wish someone would help.

God forbid you every need an organ transplant of have a preemie baby and are looking at a 2 million dollar hospital bill. Very few of even the hardest workers could afford that.

  • No, I was dropped after I got cancer.

  • @LKJSlain - ah the tax that’s not a tax.. obama is magical.

no, i do not have nor do i want insurance. nor do i have any illusion that the people who are going to lambaste me for such have even one iota of my own best interest at heart. if i get hit by a bus and die that’s my business not yours… well, unless you’re the guy that has to clean up the stain, but at that point health insurance is a moot point anyway.

  • For the first time in my life, for the last four months I have not had health insurance, actually. And as a result of last night’s ER visit, I’m about to find out what that REALLY means financially. Read: I’m fucked.

  • No.  We have been looking, but it costs anywhere between a fifth and a third of my salary, and thanks to the Summer tax hike, that means a disappearance of half of my salary for government stuff if and when we get health insurance.  We may be forced to leave the USA and go back to Japan or go to Korea, unless we both want to go to jail for not being able to afford health insurance or the IRS fine for not having it….

  • No, I do not.  I haven’t had it since around 2000, when the insurer raised my premium from just over $250 to just under $900.  The premium was for me alone.  I have no access or choice in appropriate medical care, yet I am still here responding.  Go figure.

  • I have to have it, unless I find another profession.

  • No…my job offers it, but I can’t afford it.

  • Yes.  And I pay for it.  But now I want the free Obama care.

  • @ccccourage - When everyone is insured though, there won’t be enough doctors or hospital beds open for everyone to get medical care.  I’ll be pissed if when I need service, I’ll have to wait in line because of all the Obama care people ahead of me when right now with the insurance I’m paying for, I’m sure to be taken care of immediately.

  • Thank god for free health care, baby! I don’t care that have to wait hours to see a doctor. Go to a walk in clinic right when it opens and eliminate the wait time! As far as prescriptions go, I’m covered under my dads plan 100 percent as long as I am a student.

  • I do Theo. Thanks for your post. It’s about time Americans got some healthcare and it would not have happened it if wasn’t for President Obama.
I bet the GOP is going crazy right now!! They know they have no chance of winning in the General Election.
The people aren’t going to fall for it. They want to take us back to the failed policies of Bush, but we’re not looking back
    we’re looking FORWARD

    OBAMA 4 MORE YEARS!!

  • no health insurance, can’t afford any plans.

  • right now, no.  i’ll be eligible on August 1st.

  • Yes, I do.  How is Obamacare free?  I thought it was get yourself insured or be taxed!

  • @iones_island - Wait until you get sick. You’ll make the rest of us pay for you. Yeah, you think you won’t, but you will. Suddenly faced with death, you will turn to the medical establishment and ask for help. Please Please I don’t want to die!! It’s just 20 rounds of chemo and three surgeries. That’s not that much for all the rest of you to pay for. Right? Help a guy out.

EVERYONE GETS SICK. EVERYONE. That is why everyone needs coverage of one type or another.

  • @GodlessLiberal - And now, instead of a regulated insurance company denying you coverage, you’ll have the government denying you medical care, and you have no recourse. For while you can sue an insurance company for mega bucks, the government will just tell you you’re screwed.

Ask anyone who gets health care from the Veterans Administration.

The horrible medical care given by the VA is what Obama Care will look like.

  • Yes, I have, through my employer. But there were years and years when I wasn’t covered and afraid to go to the doctor.

When everyone is covered, people will be able to get more preventative care, which will help cut overall health care costs.

  • @EmilyandAtticus - I admire Canadians having access to free health care. However is it true that the citizens have to pay higher taxes? This is to help pay for the health care correct? I am glad the US is making baby steps towards universal health care. Though I wish this started years ago. Why limit health care to people who cannot afford to pay for it? We all deserve a healthy body, mind, and soul.

  • being canadian, of course I do =P

BUT! i have additional health insurance to what the government gives me being under my mom and my dad’s plan =)

my plan just ended in May =( because I was covered by my university (included in my student fees)…but I will be getting additional coverage once i start working in august =)

    silly americans =P

  • yes because I have RomneyCare. (ok I lie but I just wanted to say it to make a point)

  • Dan, I will never cease amazement at how few dimwits can pick up on your sarcasm.  That is the one and only reason you have a substantial hater club.

    <3 Dan fo eva <3

    @LadyboyRevolution - THANK
YOU.  I’m so sick of everyone preaching Obama’s social liberalism,, and
yet he’s nothing but a pretty face with nice teeth whom I might not
kick out of bed but still a fucking commie.  OBLAHBLAH, ENOUGH.

  • @millionofstars - Honestly people keep saying that about the taxes and I’ve never seen the numbers but I’d be surprised if our taxes are higher. My tax bill isn’t bad and I always get a big refund. We don’t have a purely universal system, so maybe that’s why, it’s a mix of universal and private. So big things are covered, like I can go to the doctor and get tests for free, and if I am hospitalized it’s free. But there can sometimes be long waits, so I also have the option of paying to go to a private clinic if I want. I have private health insurance through my job that covers things like vision, dental, and probably any extras medically. So maybe that’s why our taxes are not high as we don’t pay for every little thing. It’s nice, and I am grateful for our system. I know if I get really sick, I won’t lose everything paying for it and everybody can get medical care even if they are not rich. I’m happy for America on this and hope it’s the start of better access to health care. Thanks for the question and I wish my neighbours to the South good luck!

  • ObamaCare…?

Since when do President’s have Health Care’s in their name? Sounds fishy, to me (and with invisible strings attached).

To answer your question: Nope, don’t have Health Insurance (that’s on my lengthy to-do list).

  • yes through my job….

  • @EmilyandAtticus – Thanks for your well wishes!

  • @LostSock21 - the cost savings with theoretically come from spreading risk across a larger pool of premiums.  the larger pool of premiums coming the people who are forced to buy health insurance or pay a penalty (i.e., the individual mandate).

  • wow.  i didn’t realize so many xangans don’t have health insurance.  i guess i take it for granted.

  • Nope, no health insurance, and I work in construction.  I personally don’t want to be “penalized” for not having any, with it being expensive and all.  But this “mandate”, which I hear is actually a tax, will go after me for not having insurance, so then I will have TWO things I can’t afford.  Thanks Obama. (not)

  • I already have free health care :) like a typical Canadian would say.

  • I have health insurance! :D I had a snafu not long ago with my insurance & I am happy to hear it won’t be an issue again!

  • No..I can’t afford it because I don’t have a job. I hope I can find a job with health insurance soon.

  • Yes, through my company. And after a recent unexpected surgery that would have cost $41k, I’m glad to have it. But I think that it should be my choice to have coverage or not. Nothing’s free though. Even with insurance someone has to pay for it.

  • Anyone who agrees with this needs a head check.

I already had health insurance but not because the government told me that I needed it. =/
    People should watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyLU9-VqVxY&feature=g-trend

  • Nope. I could never afford it before. I don’t know if I want to take part in this, though.

  • @luctamur - Thank you for your sanity. There is hope left in this world.

  • Yeah I’m full-time so I get it through work.  I was on my dad’s plan before that.  It’s expensive as crap too.

  • No.  Health care is not free.  Everyone is required to carry health insurance. Either the government should provide it for everyone equally, or get out of the health care business. I am not in favor of any kind of socialism, but if the government wants to provide health care, they should probably do it like Canada. Everyone is covered equally. A minimum wage earner here cannot afford health insurance – even if the price is based on income – and if they have a medical emergency they will be fined (oops, they changed the word to taxed) for using medical facilities without health insurance.  But to answer your question, yes, I do have health insurance.  I’m diabetic.  I would be dead now without it because my medications cost so much.

  • Yes. I was without it for a couple years after I graduated from college, and I swore I’d never be without it again, even when I had to go on COBRA and it cost us an arm and a leg. It’s worth it. I actually don’t care for the system we have now, with insurance usually tied to employment and most plans being HMOs or PPOs with small co-pays and the true costs of both the premiums (usually heavily subsidized by the employer) and the care (negotiated with insurance companies) hidden from the consumer. But that’s what we have to work with, so when in Rome, whatever, blah blah.

  • I don’t have health insurance. Can’r fit it into a budget. Too expensive. I believe it’s overpriced, plus I don’t like betting against myself regarding my health as my premiums go into someone else’s pocket. And (add insult to injury), then have to pay a ‘co-pay’ if I make a health claim. Screw that! I pay my medical expenses out of pocket (cash) here in my adopted country. I can afford that.

  • I don’t mind paying higher taxes if it helps people and changes the self-serving attitude of this country

  • We have a major medical type plan. It costs less (with a lower deductible, even) to have us both on this plan than it did to have just me on insurance through work, and this is better suited towards our life and beliefs. He was uninsured until we made that switch, though, which was April this year.

  • I don’t right now. I did have the reserve tricare insurance since I am a reservist but it costs too much out of pocket to see the doctor for simple things like a freaking pap. The funny thing is that I hadn’t planned on ending it but I was activated for 52 days and it automatically got canx. So now I’m back to no insurance.

  • yes, but I’m pretty sure my parents pay for it… does that mean they don’t have to pay anymore?

  • Yes… I work full time and have medical benefits I contribute to.
