  • Plan B Vending Machines

Shippensburg University has added Plan B vending machines.

Students wanted to add it to make contraceptive more accessible.
So the school added it.  Plan B is an emergency contraceptive that is taken after a woman has had sex.  Here is the link: Link
Should Plan B be sold in vending machines?

  • if legal, why not?

  • I’ll refrain from saying the you-know-what thing.

  • I agree with this. I say yes.

  • If it is legal, I don’t see the problem.

  • maybe those ones with a claw?

or maybe individually wrapped in a gumball machine?

or maybe with a super ball?

  • OH PLEASE!!
Why should condoms alone have vending machines?

I would, however, force place a disclosure regarding the perils of unprotected sex, particularly with strangers. Similar to what we have on cigarettes. Something like, “SERGEON GENERALS WARNING: Frequent unprotected sex may lead to pregnancy, STDs, AIDs, or a painful death.”

  • If this means that more children will be killed, then yes.

  • You know… I’m usually pretty liberal with these things. But I don’t agree with this.

  • @Cares2theWind@datingish - *green alien voice* “The Claaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.”

  • I’m all for it, good for them.

  • It scares me that idiots will take it like five times in one month.

  • If there’s a Plan B vending machine, then the meds will eventually get stuck and then the girls will need their boyfriends to ram the vending machine.  Then the vending machine will fall on the boyfriends, crushing them and injuring them.  Then the aliens will come and shoot them with their lazor guns and then take over the world and enslave all of mankind.  Thus I answer no to the question.

  • This is what’s known as “a lawsuit waiting to happen.” Really bad idea on the part of the university. Also, really sad to think that a college student can’t manage to get herself to a drugstore.

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - That’s what I was thinking! Except the no at the end!

  • As long as they don’t buy the Plan B Tickler.

  • @Rob_of_the_Sky - Sounds like a great way to weed out the ones of lesser intelligence in our species.

  • Are they crazy? This is a drug with serious ramifications, not candy or a snack food…

  • Won’t ever work.  Raid the couch cushions for cigarette money…raid the sofa cushions for beer money…OOOOOPS no more money, and lots of knocked up drunk nicotine addicted sluts…seriously its just too much to make the average college gal endure…How bout we make it part of Obama Care… YAY!!!  Now the sluts are back to just being drunk nicotine fiend sluts who can smoke, bang, and guzzle til they hurl!!   ME FOR PRESIDENT, I can do this blindfolded!!

  • Were condoms just more accessable when I was in college?  Granted it was only eight years ago but maybe there was a shortage I am unaware of?

  • @shezadey - Now you’re just talking down to women.  Besides no one is going to mistake a bag of $1 Cheetos for a $65 Plan B…okay, okay, maybe you’re right.  They could segregate the Plan B by filling the very top or the very bottom row with only Plan B.  They could alternately take out the separate gum/mint dispenser…NO WAIT… Some poor drunk guy who just puked, but wants to kiss the girl he just knocked up, would end up taking the Plan B for a Mentos.   OKAY you’re right, it’s a terrible idea.

  • There’s nothing wrong with. It sure beats being stuck with an unwanted baby or going for an abortion later on.

  • Take it once or twice in your lifetime the way it’s supposed to be used, as an EMERGENCY contraceptive, cool.

Take it so much that kids need a vending machine handy? Dangerous. This is messed up, condoms are so ridiculously accessible.

  • I think people should stop doing stupid things.

  • I wouldn’t call a product “Plan B” when obviously there wasn’t any “Plan A.” Cheers, Michel

  • My “pothead” post was just a poem haha. Sorry if I fill your feed with a bunch of nonsense but you probably have a lot of subscriptions so I don’t know altogether what I’m talking about

  • dude. bad. like i know in michigan you can only buy it if you’re over 18.

ive had to use it on two instances. and its shitty. its likewayyy too much hormones in a fucking pill sucker.
i realized today, its starting to be a generation where its assumed you have multiple forms of contracptives. for example, almost all the girls im friends with are on birth control. and THEN you add the assumption that we all use protection. and you STILL have plan B another way to not get prego. stupid though, bc you can still catch an std (i feel like that’s not emphasized enough through ppls heads sometimes… )

  • Condom machines too please. Lol

  • it won’t hurt you

It isn’t an abortion pill but it’s like 6 birthcontrol pills that you take and it makes your body think it’s already pregnant so the fertilized egg won’t attach itself to the wall of the womb.

this is what I understand it to be

we used to call it the “morning after pill”

  • I wish life had a Plan B machine for everyday use. lol lol lol

  • Sure.  Why not?  Unless you believe that the beliefs of a few should be imposed on the behavior of the non-believers.  Most people do not believe that this is to be considered an abortion.  And even if it were, abortions are legal in this country.  So why should the beliefs of a few extremists be foisted on others who don’t believe as they do?  This isn’t an issue about abortions, it’s an issue of a few people with extremist beliefs forcing non-believers to behave a certain way.  Yes, this should be made available to those who believe it is the best thing for them.

  • My co-worker just had to take this because of an accident. I said she couldn’t get pregnant because I can’t lose another co-worker. I don’t think it should be in vending machines, that stuff is expensive & it’s not like Tylenol. It’s easy enough to get it at the pharmacy. I don’t think there is anything wrong with making it easily accessible. They should put it on the shelf of the pharmacy instead of having to go up to the pharmacist and asking for it.

  • I worry about this because this is a drug that requires being taken at specific times and has side effects that could be dangerous. I don’t think anything like that should be sold where there isn’t at least a pharmacist there for consultation. At Krogers or Wal-Mart, you can’t just walk in, grab it off a shelf, and check it out at the self check out. You have to ask for it from a pharmacist or pharmacy tech and you get the option to ask any questions you would have about the medication. I am pretty sure they do that for a reason…

  • I think this is an amazing idea. I have friends at Shippensburg, I should ask about this.

  • @michelmthomas - How do you know there wasn’t a Plan A?  Ever hear of a condom breaking, or date rape?  Because, you know, THAT SHIT HAPPENS.

@pianomusicchick - It’s probably to keep someone from stealing it.  The Kroger over here keeps their more expensive pregnancy tests behind locked cabinets, too.

  • yes i think so but i dont have to worry because i cant get pregnant:)

  • I say let the pills and condoms be as available as candy.

  • They should have CONDOM vending machines all over campus instead! Then maybe, just maybe, people will grab one on their way to a party and not have to use the Plan B pill afterward? You do not need a prescription for Plan B anyway, walk to the local Rite Aid, Walgreen’s, etc. and buy it there if you were dumb enough to not protect yourself from the night before.

  • @chronic_masticator - When I say “dumb enough to not protect themselves”, that completely disregards all of those instances where those people need Plan B. I whole heartedly agree with your statement!

  • I worry that some gals will over use it and harm themselves.

  • what about plan C?

  • What are the side effects of overuse? If there are none, yes.

  • Why not?  Next step; an automatic abortion booth.  it would look kind of like the old photo booths.  In, out and back to class in no time!!!

  • What’s up with this vending machine crap?  Didn’t we learn this summer that these floozies are entitled to bang away all they want and get free contraception paid for by the American taxpayer?  Because I know that’s what I want my hard-earned tax dollars going toward.

  • What is going to happen they will be having sex in the rest rooms during school. Having this sends the wrong message too the students. Bro. Doc

  • I think it’s a great idea, it’s not like Plan B is an abortion pill..soooo it shouldn’t be controversial.

  • There isn’t much difference between having it in a vending machine or at planned parenthood or a drugstore.  The ones who are going to take it more than they should will do so regardless.

  • Plan B is not condoms.

This is truly disgusting to me.

  • “Legal”- duh…you should ask: MORAL?   that bitch Sotomayer (she should be banned from Yankee Stadium, or at least the broadcast booth) totally dismissed Scientific evidence that this stuff works by causing abortion, i.e. killing the fertilized ovum.  She ruled (she’s a Supreme Court judge) that it is merely a contraceptive because she only listened to what the product label said.  She’ll burn in hell next to judge Brennan.  It as a real Nazi move, totally politically correct from her zero-population-don’t-let-the-masses-rise elietist DEMOCRATic mind program….you selfish students are suckers to what the system is doing to you.
Become Catholic, believe in True Love,  go against the shitty tide the American system is drowning you in, and get transformed through the power of your mind.  The Truth will set you free.

  • The more accessible the better! I support this idea. — although ideally the vending machine would also supply condoms (I presume it does?)

I highly doubt women will abuse the use of Plan B (which is not supposed to be used as a regular contraceptive) because 1. Women are not idiots and can read a box 2. It’s ridiculously expensive!

  • Wtf? Plan B isn’t legal for purchase for those under 17 without a prescription. How are they getting off putting that shit in vending machines??

  • I think this is a great idea. Then everyone can see how fucking expensive it is and just use a fucking condom.

  • not a bad idea. it shouldn’t be the only contraceptive the university should be making readily available like this, but it does save the awkwardness of going to a drug store and having to ask for it yourself. plus students could buy a pack or two and have it in their desks ready to go just in case they have a condom break scare or a birth control malfunction.

  • I went there for my Freshman year of college, wish I stayed.  I don’t live too far from it now.  It’s actually a pretty small school made up of tons of Christians from farm areas (part of what I hated, too much anti-gay rhetoric, but I hung out with those types too much.  I don’t know why but Christians are drawn to me.  I guess I look virginal or something, hehe) so I’m surprised.

Shippensburg is a public university so it is at least partially obligated to withhold state laws.  I think a private university should do whatever it wants (and students can choose them based on such decisions).  Of courese, I don’t think the government has any place to pass laws on this, but I also don’t think state universities should exist.  That aside: for all you pro-lifers out there, PLAN B IS NOT AN ABORTION PILL, it is just a last-minute contraceptive medication. There IS an abortion pill and it’s called Mifepristone, formerly RU-486.

  • idk if i agree or not. i have used the pill..but to just see it in a vending machine its just weird…..its not safe.

  • That’s just wrong.  This means any 15 year old can get it freely without knowing the consequences.  <– That is if all post-elementary schools are following this University’s idea.

  • Don’t they already make it available for the students in the health center?  It might be more convenient after hours, but most college towns have at least one 24 hour pharmacy.  It will be about 25-30 bucks more from a CVS or Walgreens, but if you’re in need, I’m sure somehow they’ll come up with the dough…

  • Sigh…you have to have a prescription for it if you’re under 18…or at least an 18 year old who’ll get it for you.  It’s always been an easy enough work around…

  • i heard about this last february. it’s in it’s own little room that is in the health center and you have to show your college id to get in.

  • I’m surprised so many people are against it, I certainly don’t think it’s a horrible idea. If it were very accessible you might be able to avoid more unwanted pregnancies. It’s a relatively safe drug (aside smokers, people with clotting disorders, etc) but I would imagine you’d sign some rights away upon purchase. I’m for it if it would make a positive impact in some lives.

  • @shezadey - @specialxplaces - Actually it is safe. Just think of it as a concentrated form of birth control pill.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - I’ve taken it before, just there are so many people who take them on a regular basis and excessive use can be dangerous from what I know.

  • @specialxplaces - I don’t think so. It’s just progestin. I think the reason why this can’t be a “regular” or “normal” method of birth control is because it’s not as effective as other methods. =/

  • Planned parenhood, er, eugenics in action: Have a coke, chips, and a plan B, baby.

  • Fuck it, I wanna see vending machines selling sex. But they’ve gotta have different themes. Like, they all have to have condoms and Plan B, but some should be 50 Shades of Grey themed. And other should be romantic with candles and chocolate and shit. If you’re gonna do it, do it all the way.

  • Dude it’s Shippensberg, it makes perfect sense…have you seen their women?

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - Plan B is actually levonorgestrel, not progestin. And it can’t be used as a “normal” form of birth control because it’s a massive dose of a hormone designed to inhibit ovulation. Usage of it everyday would be insane.

  • @gamecubeholic - levonorgestre is a progestogen used in normal BC. Every day usage would be dumb when you could just take a lower dose for pregnancy prevention all month, but it’s not super harmful. It’s pretty safe.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - I’m aware. However, levonorgestrel =/= progestin. You claimed that Plan B couldn’t be a “normal” form of birth control because it wouldn’t be as effective as other methods, which is wrong. It couldn’t because it isn’t designed to be birth control at all; it’s an emergency contraceptive. Now, levonorgestrel is actually used on its own as a long term form of contraception called Mirena, which is an IUD that slowly releases levonorgestrel over the course of 3 years.

  • @specialxplaces -  I agree.

That shit can mess a woman’s body up bad.  We shouldn’t be
popping those as often as he slips on the rubber.  This is an emergency
only contraceptive, and it’s easily accessible (in Canada, anyways) at
any 24hour drug store.  It ain’t candy, kids.
