Why Can’t Women Show Nipples?
I make it my goal to increase the level of intellectual discussion here on xanga.
So you can imagine how happy I was that a former stripper was raising the topic of “Why can’t women show nipples? Here is the link: LinkIf you think about it, guys can be topless in front of women. Women have larger boobs but they have nipples that are not much different than guys.So it makes no sense that women can’t show nipples.Why can’t women show nipples?

Hell if I know.
You can’t titty fuck a guy.
I have often wondered the same thing myself. If there is any cause I could ever see myself doing anything for is top freedom (and by that I mean protest… topless).
@hintofblue - Moobs want an equal opportunity.
Good question….
I’m not sure…
I’m glad her tits have a bowtie. that’s classy.
why do guys even have nipples? looks like if evolution were truly correct those things would have gone away long ago
probably the same reason that breast-feeding is looked down upon. America is a weird place. I’ve heard we’re one of the few countries that sexualizes the breast the way we do in media and entertainment.
Yeah, it’s a good question…
They can show me their nipples all they want. I won’t say no.
I completely agree. It’s a silly double standard. Let’s get rid of it!
@Interfacere - When I lived in Germany, I got to see how they treated nudity like it was no big deal, almost as though nudity was a natural part of being human. It made sense. In fact, I often got asked why we censor nudity in our TV shows but not violence, which is probably much more destructive than nipples.
On the other hand, the world’s biggest porn industry finds its base in America. Ironic, yes?
Pshaw, I eschew those archaic double standards! Lookie HERE!
Because sometimes, hiding the nipple and showing just the cleavage is more attractive.
WHY??!?
I thing part of Christian culture and their take on the Bible is that Christians women are to dress modestly. I believe Muslims are more modest than the USA–also India seems more modest.
While women who are employed in hooking and adult dancing make money showing their bodies and that seems legal, the religious community has sound reasons for their opinions.
In our country, gals are pretty free to dress or undress the way that they want.
@SlickRick297 - I agree.

However, I am refusing to be intellectual. No female nipples in public b/c straight men and lesbians just couldn’t handle it.
@Erika_Steele - LOL. I think the Europeans figured it out, over time people will just get used to it. At least enough so that your average porn star will need a part-time job
i used to wonder the same thing
I’m a little shy at showing other people my nipples.
It’s not so much the nipples. Women have nicer looking boobs than guys. Guys got jealous of them so they came up with the idea to oversexualize them to have an excuse to force women cover up. Men get to strut their stuff while women are further repressed and kept subservient.
…you know, in a nutshell.
If women showed their nipples all the time, wouldn’t some of the fun of sex be taken away? “Oh those are your nipples. Eh, I saw five pair on my walk home from work. No biggie.”
Jesus. Or something.
It’s really an American thing. In other countries nudity isn’t a big “dldjflwjdf” thing. It’s just a body and if you’re intimate with someone it’s seen differently. I think it’s because it’s a sex organ thing though.
@Shadowrunner81 - It’s a shame a woman being proud of her body would make sex less fun for you.
@SlickRick297 - Wow, that sounds about right. very cool!
Looking through the comments now, I’m seeing a lot of comparisons that suggest that by making nudity and sexuality a “no no” we are actually fostering a poor understanding of love and sex. I know that rape and sexual deviance is a concept that is older than dirt but in this an an era where humanity’s focus has largly shifted to equality and human rights, it astonishes me that such extreme cases of violence persists, perhaps because the way we are taught to perceive the female body is incorrect and perverse due to a lack of mature understanding.
intriguing fact, it does not surprise me that we’re the world’s biggest group of porn dogs. The’s the new world for you. I attribute it to the likes of a kid staying the night away from home with that family that lives down the street, the one that let’s him watch rated R movies haha. Eurasia is a much older part of humanity. Much older, more ingrained than we are here in the really quite young United States…. I’ll stop since I’m ranting
It is an interesting subject for sure! Freudian Ice Slushee from the 7-11 !!
@Interfacere - strike that “an an”
also dang xanga why did you squeeze it all together into one massive paragraph ay ay ay
Aww geez another boobie post. You better be careful Dan or people are going to think you are a perv with a nipple fetish<:)
Honestly, I’d prefer if guys kept their shirts on.
@hintofblue – good point though.
I don’t know that one. I remember that as a kid, I was told that women had to wear things covering their boobs because it was their private place. I don’t know why it is a private place though. That is something I’ve been wondering for quite some time now.
They can in Austin – there is no state law or city ordinance in Austin that forbids it. So does Houston have an ordinance prohibiting exposed breasts?
its because babies suck on nipples. so when men look at nipples, it releases their inner baby and they want to suck the nipple. so that’s why nipples are covered. so that man won’t release their inner baby.
Because boobs.
to make men want them more lol
@Erika_Steele - Agreed haha.
I think it has something to do with the over sexualization of women’s breasts. (A man’s breasts aren’t considered nudity for some reason…because they aren’t looked at very sexually. Women’s breasts are…so…can’t show ‘em off, I guess. Anything sexual can’t be seen or done in public without it being, y’know, nudity. So. Whatever.) For some reason, sacs of fattened flesh full of mammory glands and whatnot that are used to feed babies became sexual lmao tell me how that got started. What the hell.
I’d love to effing go topless without getting googly eyes from either sex. I mean, women can’t even go without a bra without getting many, mixed reactions lol.
the same reason that we women should wear burkas like over in the middle east-why give men more ideas since they have enough on their own.
@HexagonQuirks - I didn’t say that. I said that if every woman decided to show themselves, it might desensitize guys to the bodies of their girlfriends/wives.
Seeing great boobs with nipples on women makes men go wackadoodle.
The universe doesn’t need anymore wackadoodle men.
@hintofblue - Well I suppose you COULD, but (pause surf porn in an attempt to erase THAT mental image) the male gay community puts a high price on vanity.
If the guy is large enough, you can titty-fuck him…I’m just surprised that you all on the internet haven’t seen it before.
Because our nipples hold the key to unleashing all the power in the universe and only the most worthy members of the male population may gaze upon such glory, lest it overpower them.
I agree. It’s really strange. Because of this point, I’m going to make a point of showing my nipples more often. It’s all about equality! Ahem… Yea, equality.
@mlbncsga - Cute. This argument can easily be pushed the other way, of course – “Why do guys even have nipples? Looks like if creationism were truly correct, those things would never have been created”
(and actually, from the standpoint of biological evolution, there’s a pretty simple answer: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=why-do-men-have-nipples )
@Erika_Steele - Men aren’t apes. They could handle it. They handle it all the time in so-called “uncivilized” cultures where women walk around topless.
It would be sad, sad day when men are desensitized toward nipples. It makes it special! haha.
@Shadowrunner81 - I actually see what you mean.
The simple answer… cuz people are dumb. They still consider women as property belonging only to men ( first their father then their husband). Plus, we don’t have a healthy respect of men– we believe they fall apart when they see boobs. @@
@Interfacere - it’s hardly a rare or extreme case when 1/4 of all civilian women, 1/20 of all civilian men, and 1/3 of all military women (during their service) will be or have been the victim of rape or attempted rape in their lifetimes, and we have 27 million+ people in slavery, over half in sexual slavery. I’d actually say that it is alarmingly common. We PREACH love and tolerance, but the divorce rate is 50%, the rate of sexual assault and domestic violence is through the roof, we kill our own offspring, there are more slaves today than any other time in world history, the 20th century was the bloodiest in world history, google is working on a digital brain to bring about the singularity (the eventual goal is to make ushalographic bodies with digital brains. No joke, look it up), the episcopal church (which stands for nothing but a liberal agenda and has no business claiming to be Christian) sued my mom for “leaving the episcopal church” even though she was never an episcopalian, our rights are slowly being taken away, and it’s still perfectly acceptable todiscriminate based on size. We have not improved in this. Also sorry about any misspellings. I’m using my phone.
@chaospet touche’
@TiredSoVeryTired - you do say?
An even bigger question: Why do males have nipples in the first place?
in the Himba society they do..it could be that this society has become so complicated that even feet have become fetishes..we have lost a lot of our naturalness..
Why would women want to? My nipples get cold, they don’t want to be flapping around all over the place. And yeah tits giggling about aint that comfy, hence support. And yeah, men would be fapping all over the place, yuck.
Hello!!! Just stopping by to send my greetings! Have a wonderful weekend.
@Shadowrunner81 - I highly doubt that.
I want to see the nipples!
omg really? hahaha
I’m not a fan of nipples.
Our culture.
@HexagonQuirks - Its not a sex organ at all. Its a feeding organ. Its made to feed the offspring. Vegina, penis those are sex organs. Thats it. Only those two. It should be normal and natural to see a woman sit in a park and feed her child, without having to cover herself and child, even in the summer, which is uncomfortable for the child and leads to overheating, nassua and such, only because the society is freaked out about seeing a woman’s nipple or seeing her feed her child. But seeing guys underwear cuz their pants reach their knees is fashion!! Kill me now!
We should just have a nipplethon where everyone posts closely cropped images of their nipples.
i thought the nipple is different… last time i check my nipple cannot have the potential to let milk coming out of them
Because Americans have an unhealthy view toward sex.
I don’t have so much a problem with seeing boobs…. never have…. but I will admit I would be looking a lot more if they were uncovered….. just saying.
@pinkdiffusion - I should have put sex organ in quotes. I know it’s a feeding organ but unfortunately the breast is over sexualized. I’m going to breast feed in public and not give a single Hell. I could go on and on about it. I’m a little scatterbrained right now. Does that make sense?
It’s mostly an American and middle eastern thing. We haven’t grown up enough to realize that breast aren’t sexual objects, they are body parts with a specific purpose. As someone earlier pointed out that in “uncivilized” countries women walk around topless all the time and it doesn’t cause a big hulabaloo because breast are just seen as things meant to feed infants.
@mlbncsga -
Men have nipples cus in the womb both males and females develop on a female template during which males get nipples, later we get the differentiating qualities that make a man.
Women can’t show nipples in many cultures, in fact most around the world not just America (for the cliché “why can’t America be more like Europe” brigade). But culture is the main reason. I don’t know that most women in the US would want to go around bare-chested. The beach might be an exception, but even then they’d have a problem with the attention it would draw; can’t have one without the other. Nobody probably wants their mother or sisters bare-chested for the public to see either.
Also, females aren’t as visually aroused as men are, and probably wouldn’t lose concentration or self control because they see a male’s bare chest. Even in Europe people still like seeing women’s chest, even if it’s less sexualized.
I’d have no problem with breasts being shown, and don’t think if it were allowed by law or culturally acceptable that there’d be all these people out with their tits anyway.
I honestly think that it’s marketing done the right way. It helps give women another way to earn money, and men another way to spend it. lol
@HexagonQuirks - I am sorry I didn’t mean to personally attack you. I was just responding to the overall questions. I know what you mean, and I wish we as women could feed our babies where ever. I tried feeding my son in a restaurant and got dirty looks from everyone as if I was committing a horrible act, where simply I was just feeding my son! This society really needs to mature and promote breastfeeding no matter location and glorify female body like they do male penis, not shame it. Makes me mad. lol
They can, it’s just frowned upon. Blame religion.
@pinkdiffusion -
aha, I didn’t see it like that. I completely agree with you. I’m not even sure what’s so…sexual about breasts anyway. I don’t know. It’s weird. Breastfeeding isn’t anything to be ashamed of public or otherwise. It’s caring for our young!
aren’t women nipples just like really sensitive to stimulation compared to the man’s?
@hintofblue - Not true– depends on the guy!
@Shadowrunner81 - I kind of agree with this– I feel like part of the allure of nudity is that it’s something secret/ mysterious/ exciting. I don’t know that I would really want it to be commonplace and completely boring.
@Semper_medusa - as I stated I know that these things happen and have been happening and continue to happen, however, I was merely pointing out that I find it odd, that mankind has not developed to point where we don’t manipulate and molest each other anymore, yet we’ve developed very nearly to the point of controlling machines with just your thoughts ( see TEDtalks ) cars that drive themselves etc etc
So technology develops faster than human emotional capacity.. Or inequality in third world countries create more cases of rape an sexual devience? Maybe you care to explain what you meant @semper_medusa ?
I’m not all together sure what you hoped to accomplish in your long rant?
Maybe I’m wrong to think that poor understanding and misconceptions about love and sex are directly related to why men mistreat women
Either way @semper_medusa flame on Johnny
i really do think it has to do with religion. cause the same rule applies to many countries.
That IS a good question.
Rape culture, somethin’ or other.
