Huffing
A 14-year-old girl died while huffing a can of compressed-air computer keyboard cleaner in order to get high. Here is the link: Link
People are talking about it being sad because she was a straight A student (if only this had happened to a B to C student it would all be ok).Have you ever tried huffing?

Yes. I also tried puffing.
And after it was all over, I enjoyed some mighty fine bacon.
I’m behind the trends now! I haven’t even tried the cinnamon-eating thing yet! Dammit, I’m so slow
No, but I watched somebody get thrown out of the military for it though.
Do Smarties count?
that’s stupid. have you heard of…jenkem?
Na, we used to mess with people huffing though when it came to that spray. “Bro, turn it upside down next time, you get WICKED high”. If anyone has ever turned a bottle of stuff upside down, you’ll understand.
Quite terrible, but funny at the same time. Had a couple people quit doing it because of that, so…success?
No. I remember stories like this from when I was a kid though. I’ve always been sort of hyperaware of brain health and especially now study neuro a bit I don’t want to do anything too stupid to hurt my brain. Too many other safer things to do for fun.
No, that’s awful.
I’m pretty sure that freezes the lungs or something as well as greatly damaging the brain.
No … instant stupid … its awful that people loose their children to these evils
Nah, when I was in Jr High a kid in the grade below (it was a very small school, we knew everybody), Chad Moles, died of huffing. That was a long time ago, but it was how I learned about it, and knew i didn’t want anything to do with it.
Still, in our rehab program and in counseling sessions, i deal with a lot of people who have. It really has some serious long term consequences.
Some people have an odd idea about the worth of life. The girl may well have not been valued by those around her. Academically-gifted people can and do push the self-destruct button. Well-adjusted, actively-loved people do not.
I huff. And I puff. And eventually I make it to the top of the stairs. Now if only I could remember what I came up here for.
That’s awful. I’ve never done it.and never will. Not into drugs well other than alcohol…which I am trying to cut down on
Hell yeah! lt’s like walking on sunshine!
I huff all the time, all the souls around me. Tasty.
No I haven’t and we had a young 32 year old Mother of three die from huffing. She had a bucket of gas in her garage and was on her hands and knees huffing and passed out and fell her first in the bucket and drowned.
Her three young children came home from school, got off of the school bus and went through the garage to go in through the kitchen door and found her.
Huffing is so stupid.
@saintvi - I so relate
That’s weird. Before this was posted, I was reading an article about Russian bears huffing aviation fuel fumes until they pass out: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2294757/Bear-ly-conscious-Russian-creatures-pass-developing-aviation-fuel-addiction-sniffing-discarded-gas-barrels.html
Nah I’ve never tried it.
No, but I have gotten high by using cleaner in a small room. Not on purpose, but it happened.
Does it count if I tried doing whip-its with an empty whipped cream canister?
I was a B to C student, so I didn’t huff.
Yea…Nitrous but dunno if that is really huffing. Buddies in high school use to do some weird shit with butane or something or another and when they were on it they would talk about the Butane God in a real deep voice.
Nitris is pretty cool cuz it is over real quick and you laugh your ass off.
Nah, not even highlighters. I’m boring.
Nope. Sounds unpleasant.
Yep. Tried it once in high school, then never again. Felt like shit for 3 days afterwards
I heard about this kind of thing long ago. Nitrous oxide has been around for awhile and I knew of people huffing freon from air compressors as is mentioned in the article. I’ve done my fair share of things to catch a buzz in my day but I never did anything that dangerous. It’s sad that a fourteen year old goes out that way and who knows if it was her first time or if she knew the dangers and did it anyway.
Just because someone gets good grades doesn’t mean they might not do stupid things. Still, it’s a shame and I can’t imagine walking in on my child that way.
@korean_biyatch - is that the fumes collected after crapping in a jar and letting it stew?
@Love_in_102 - exactly!
Compressed air would make you high?
@korean_biyatch - really makes you wonder about people, right? who even thinks of things like that?
@HexagonQuirks - you might find this link helpful: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/dustoff.asp
@Love_in_102 - seriously. i think they wanna know what else they can use to screw up their brain for free.
@Love_in_102 - Wow! Thanks for sharing! I had no clue that it was more than just air! I mean, I wouldn’t have tried it regardless I don’t get high. I was just curious
Never done anything of the like and I never will. I have enough real problems to deal with I don’t need to add unnecessary issues and stupidity on top of them.
Nope. And I didn’t even know that it was possible to get high off of compressed air. That’s just sad.
@HexagonQuirks - lol I know what you mean. you have to be really careful even when you’re being really stupid.
@Lady_Kelacy - amen to that!
Sometimes, when coloring with markers, the smell gets to me. I get a little light-headed. I never put the damn thing up to my nose or anything like that. I just have a sensitive nose. I’m always a fairly safe distance from the art when apply the stuff, but I guess opening a window wouldn’t hurt.
Nope, no huffing. My parents impressed it upon me at an early age that drugs and the like were detrimental and I’ve stood by that.
@Love_in_102 - ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
@firetyger - excellent and way to go
@Grannys_Place - hah! yeah, isn’t that nice? sad thing is kids really do it.
This is what happens when you don’t make heroin readily available to the bored youth of America.
In the New Dark Age of Stupid, even the A students struggle like the dummies to be smart.
But sometimes they mess up.
We can take solace in the fact that she died with no dust in her sinuses.
I’m not all about intentionally going out of my way to kill myself, so no… One of the stupidest things anyone could ever do (oh, these chemicals are poisonous? Let’s inhale them!), and I don’t understand the appeal at all. Don’t get me wrong, it’s sad that she died… but I can’t possibly comprehend why anyone would ever get the inclination that huffing is a good idea.
I did whippets a few times at a party and felt like I was going to die. Huffing is just stupid. There are easier ways to get high.
Obviously the moral of the story is that parents of A students love their children more than B and C students
I didn’t even know that was still something kids did, honestly, I thought it faded out in the late 80′s, early 90′s as just another stupid fad. its a damn shame about that poor girl.
don’t they have money for something more with a long term risk?
When I was in high school a boy carved a swastika on the back of the seat in front of him with his pocket knife and ended up being kicked off the bus for trying to inhale a can of dust cleaner to get high.
So…somehow it never crossed my mind as something I should do with my time.
If you do it while wearing a bath-robe, it’s called Heffing.
I saw an Intervention where a formerly promising woman huffed the same stuff. Her mind was like an empty shell. Perhaps her death served to save herself and family from the same decline.
I took whippits (little capsules of nitrous sold as a food service item) once or twice when I was a kid.
I used to do it when I was a young teenager with lighter fluid cans. Wasn’t very good really.
This is sad no matter what kind of student it is!
What is with kids these days and finding the stupidest things to do possible with fatal consequences? Whatever happened to playing outside, with I don’t know- jump rope and chalk?
Your brain reacts the same way to huffing as it does to drowning — brain damage and all!
No, I have never huffed and do not intend to. I saw this story on the news last night…I find it ironic that the parents just cleared their house of dangerous substances and locked up the prescription medications. I suspect that girls’ circumstance was worse than depicted on the news or the linking article. I still find the situation sad, it is sad regardless of level of academic achievement.
No or puffing or cuffing. I just buy another keyboard if it good dirtying instead of buying cleaner.
just smoke weed already
That family must be in so much pain, I wish them the best of luck. But one thing that pisses me off about this post.
“if only this had happened to a B to C student it would all be ok”
How would this be okay in any way?? Just because someone is a B or C student doesn’t mean they deserve less respect than an A student. If she was a B or C student it would still be a sad story and in no way would that person’s death be okay. It’s safe to say that an A student doesn’t imply that person is superior to other people
- especially when your in middle school or high school –
Clearly, huffing compressed-air isn’t a SMART choice, so whether she’s an A, B or C student she still did an irresponsible thing and her marks in no way reflect her decision.
no. sure didn’t. I just have my moments of just trying to breathe.
Its sad…and no I never tried “huffing” but I did try Rush once and came close to ODing that and the factt that I did not like it because it gave me a vicious headache were the reasons I never did it again.
@babybug329 - you are right.
@olwd - you are right.
@IBFLOYD - I wish I could.
@shezadey - goo d point but the children are exposed to far to much wya to early in life and thye do not have a chance to have a childhood and we are paying the price for that,
loL, u have to be quite stupid to die from air duster
@korean_biyatch - the american version of jenkem was a hoax.
Nope, I have no desire to get high. Getting high doesn’t appeal to me that much. Life has so much to offer, don’t need artifical way of getting high, esp. from chemical.
So sad
Well, Dan I did a lot of things I wasn’t suppose to do but I think the limitations are over. Plus, it wouldn’t matter if she was an A or an F student.
I forgot that back in the 50′s we used to have these old time printers that that terrible chemical odors to them and as the teacher handed out our paper to us for a test or whatever we would huff the paper. The teacher would tell us to calm down.
i sniffed some glue once..that was fun !
I guess she was trying to fit in?
wasn’t that in the beginning of the movie called Thirteen? or am i not remembering the movie right?
Nope
amyl nitrate (RUSH) – bought legally from a head shop. great during orgasm.
Hmmm…I was expecting this story to come from the Huffington Post.
Sad
I had a friend in highschool that did air freshner cans… I don’t get it. Her room always smelled nice but she killed brain cells to escape a wonderful family… I would have loved to trade places, minus the drug
I heard others in highschool did whip cream cans too
@onesixtyfivest – You must be new here.
I just checked my can of compressed computer keyboard cleaner. It is clearly labeled “Ingesting or Breathing this can cause instant death” along with red slash-circled graphics. I suppose 14-year-olds can’t be expected to read labels.
@Dustin_wind - somewhat . temporarily revisiting .
no. i’m not a moron.
@onesixtyfivest – Don’t take much of what Dan says in his posts literally.
@Super_Rob_of_the_Sky - LOL
