Break a Leg
Basketball player Kevin Ware broke his leg in half on national TV.
It protruded through the leg. You could see other basketball players looking the other way and crying. In eight grade, I broke a kid’s leg in half while playing football. I sat there with him and looked at it until help arrived. But here you had college age basketball players looking the other way and walking away from their teammate. If someone broke his/her leg in half, would you look the other way?

Yes, if I cant help! I looked the other way when I saw this photo!
No waaay, that’d be cool to look at.
No. It’d be instinctive to start helping.
His injury happened near his team’s bench. Some teammates fell out of their seats and some threw up.
Nope. It is LITERALLY my job to look at this kind of stuff all day long.
I would probably try to look at the person’s face and talk to them to keep them calm, while steadfastly not looking at the leg. I’m generally able to handle blood, but looking at major trauma makes me lightheaded.
I did look the other way. My husband wanted to watch it over and over while I squeemishly closed my eyes and hid my face behind my hands. I saw the initial break and that was it for me
when I was younger, a fellow soccer mate broke her shin when her leg collided with someone’s soccer cleat. I couldn’t look at all.
Omg I would have squealed if that happened while I was watching, just that pic is gross. I’m not big on things like that. I’m a wuss.
Walking away was the best thing. They had medics on the scene who had to do their job, and watching it, I still thought there was too many people crowding him. The broken bone protruding through his leg and all the people crowding him, even those in the stands would be more than enough to send a person in shock. Glad they won though, even though I wanted Duke to win.
DANG!!!! I had not seen that yet!!!! that’s insane!
I really don’t know if I would turn or help. I do pretty good in serious situations, but I don’t know how I would respond when it came to something like that.
That break is AWESOME though.
I’d kick it then laugh.
I remember when a friend on the wrestling team was wrestling a girl. He broke her ankle. That was gruesome but it was worse because of her crying.
i heard he cried and threw up. me? i’ve seen it all, i’d be there to help him. i’ve had my own fracture with the bone protruding out and thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Oh my gosh. That’s awful! I don’t think I could stand to look at it, and if I had actually been there I can’t say for sure whether or not I would have thrown up. I really hope he recovers… unfortunately I have a suspicion he won’t be playing much basketball for a long long time.
Part of looking away was to distance themselves from the pain their teammate (friend) was going through. Seeing a friend in that situation would break anybody.
Heck no. I’d be right there by his side, looking right at it. And vomiting profusely.
No I would jump in and do what I could to help make them comfortable until medical help arrived.
@SKANLYN - Even a troll like you,I wouldn’t kick you and laugh if you if that had happened to you.

I’d help the poor lad… or get help. Either way, I’ll get involved. I mean, God forbid, if I were messed up, I’d like some help.
OMG !!!!! It is very dangerous .

Just seeing the picture made me almost faint, poor guy! I would do what I could to help until the pros arrived. So awful.
WHY WITH THE PICTURE
Bones breaking through skin is like my worst fear. To happen or to witness. Dear God.
I would have stayed with him just to comfort him since I am not a paramedic. To walk away is sad, especially if he is a TEAMMATE.
I would definetly help the poor soul as best I could.
I can not imagine the pain he is going through.
wow, heard of that and hadn’t see a vid or pic of it till now. thanks so much for that picture.
I’m a nurse so it bothers me but I’ve seen it in real life many times. I always say,”grab a clean towel,do you have someone who can drive you to the hospital?”
Where’s the link?
dude, I don’t know… I might have to look away…. it would depend. I mean, if they needed me, sure I’d hang out right by thier head and focus on keeping them calm, but man, in the situation, you just never know….
WAAAAAUGH JESUS FUCK DAN
I could have gone the rest of my life without seeing that. I avoided the highlights on purpose for this very reason. x_x
On one hand that picture makes me cringe, but on the other, I did once help clean up and take care of a dude I witnessed get his face broken (literally) until the helicopter came… blood everywhere, it was nasty.
This is a wonderful post. I will share it to everynone,It is great to have the opportunity to read a good quality article with useful information on topics that plenty are interested on. I concur with your conclusions and will eagerly look forward to your future updates…………:)

Definitely good to stay calm.
Nope! I was trying to zoom in on the picture!
shit i gasped out loud opening my subscription mail to this post. I would definitely look away, its too painful!
Pretty awful. It’s just not something you see everyday and to happen to a teammate, that’s like part of your family. Obviously you’d want to help but in that kind of situation the best thing you could do would be to give him some breathing room and let the paramedics do their job. I’d probably be too stunned to look away.
At least he made it through surgery all right.
i’d help.
Well, just because your friend or team mate looks away when your bone pops through your skin doesn’t make them any less of a person. It’s really gross and horrifying to going through and just as horrifying to watch.
