  • Abortion Worse than Child Molestation

I was reading an article about how a priest had said in his past that “abortion is a worse moral scandal than priests sexually abusing young people” because it is “always a destruction of human life.”  Here is the link:  Link
Which is worse, abortion or priest sexually abusing young people?

  • Sexual abuse. I think sexual acts are worse than violent acts because they always involve shame, degradation, and loss of dignity.

  • Sexual abuse is a destruction of a life as well. I can’t say which one is worse because they are not at all comparable.

  • What a load of bullshit. Abortion merely stops a non-sentient being from progressing past the embryonic stage. It’s not self-aware, it doesn’t feel pain, and it doesn’t have any conscious memory of the abortion after it takes place. The embryo is not harmed by an abortion as it would have to be sentient to cause it harm (plus, as I’ve mentioned time and time again, abortion prevents it from experiencing the horrors of pain and suffering that come with a life on earth so it’s better that it was aborted to begin with).

Molestation, on the other hand, takes place on a sentient being that is self-aware and will have to live with the horror for the rest of its life. Even if embryos were sentient and self-aware, that is a sentence much, much worse than death. Tom Riddle was oh-so-wrong when he said there was nothing worse than death. There are many, many things worse than death, and this is one of those things. If I had to choose between being raped as a child and having a bullet put through my brain I’d take the latter and not think twice.

I think this is just a case of disgusting Catholictards trying to justify their misdoings. The evil empire known as the Catholic Church is finally being called on their crap and they don’t like it. Saying abortion is worse than child rape is just another example of why religion is a mental illness.

  • @secretbeerreporter - Good.  Now I don’t have to type out what you said in a less eloquent way.

The whole article comes off like someone trying to claim he is not terrible because other people do worse things.  Bull.

  • so the priest believes it’s better to ruin a life than to end one before life can even suffer out in the real world? interesting way to justify things. I wonder how many kids that have been molested by priests have a mother who considered abortion.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - right? I’d rather be shot or stabbed than molested or raped, especially as a child, especially by someone from a church.

  • well, I think that people see through that crap. Its like saying slamming you with a sledge is ok but shooting you wouold be wrong.

  • How can the two be compared? Sexual abuse is the destruction of a life as well.

  • I think the two pretty much go hand-in-hand as some of the most horrendous things you can do to a fellow human being. In both instances you have an innocent life in the care of someone they ought to be able to trust and, in a total and willful rejection of their moral duty, the person to whom they are entrusted completely ignores the inherent dignity of the innocent and causes them irreparable harm either by ending their life entirely by abortion or wounding their heart and soul grievously by abuse. I think it is totally insensitive to try and distinguish one as a greater sin than the other unless you are doing so within the confines of a theological or ethical debate; to preach such a thing from a pulpit or some other public or pastoral forum is not only going to confuse people but also hurt many, many more, as the above-mentioned cardinal is likely discovering the hard way. I can’t say that I envy his new position, and may God spare me from such a ministry in the future!

  • wtf? this is cray.

  • Abortion is worse because babies that die before they are born never know Christ so they go to Hell to be tortured and tormented by Satan and his devils for all eternity.

  • What the hell? This is absolutely not true.

  • blah
    better, worse, worse, better
who would win in a fight: abortion or child molestation
    whose team are you on
what does it matter where shitty things fall on a list of shitty things
    shitty things are shitty.

  • @secretbeerreporter - Just wanted to say, +1 for the Tom Riddle reference.

  • Needless and pointless comparison.  Anyone who seeks to downplay child molesting should be driven from office; anyone who tries to cover it up should be arrested.

  • @SKANLYN – NUTJOB ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Please! This dude is either high or a complete moron.

Abortion should be allowed to happen, because what if the girl got raped and had to have the baby because abortion didn’t exist?Child molestation is far worse than abortion. You’re actually taking away a child’s innocence versus an unborn baby being cut out because the mother was raped or didn’t want the baby.
But then again,he IS a priest after all,and not a lot of good comes out of the mouth of a priest.Just sayin’….

  • @SKANLYN - But unborn babies don’t believe in hell.

  • Ridiculous. I would say they are both equally awful…

  • Did they just imply that sexual abuse of a child doesn’t always ruin a life? Because, out there somewhere, is someone that wants to be molested…

  • Murdering an unborn child is worse.  But the comparison is like that between Ebola and smallpox.

  • @SKANLYN - That only happens if you are the bastard of a liberal.

  • @popartartpop - Woman gets raped so murder the baby.  How does that make any sense at all?

  • No comparison – both are horrible.

  • @ImNotUglyIJustNeedLove - Not true. Jesus said the only way to the father is through him. Therefore anyone who doesn’t know Christ, including an unborn child, is doomed to Hell where he or she will be separated from God and suffer excruciating and unimaginable pain forever and ever. That is what makes abortion such a terrible sin.

  • @SKANLYN - I say it.  You prove it.  Do I know liberals or what?!

  • what Bernard implied I am dazzled that a mom can get paid $5389 in a few weeks on the computer. did you read this link http://www.rev24.com

  • Its statements like that that have caused me to leave the Catholic church.  They make their own goddamn rules based on what works for them and what the Pope said.  Excuse me, but the Pope lives in another country and is 700 years old.  His life has no correlation to my life so who is he to make the rules?!  Plus, that statement is just downright assinine for any one to have said.

  • The unborn baby doesn’t know what’s going on.  I hate for them to suffer, and that’s a variable that we don’t know about.  I would imagine it hurts them.  Once it’s cut off from the mom though, it dies (USUALLY), whereas sexual abuse is happening to a human with experiences and will remember and be affected by it.  I’d say neither can be considered “better,” but if I had to choose one to happen to someone… well, neither option sounds more appealing than the other.  This is a tough question of yours.

I aborted my only child, and it would have been devastating for it to have grown up to be molested.  But I prevented it from having a chance to NOT experience that, and have good memories instead.  These two scenarios are pretty unrelated, cannot be compared in my opinion.  I envision a future world where these two things are never a problem. </3

  • … I think molesting a child is destructive TO their life. Ridiculous.

  • I think both are a destruction of life. Neither are worse than the other. They each have their own destruction to life, regardless of the type of crime.

  • @SKANLYN – I disagree. They did know Christ before the woman became impregnated. And they haven’t ‘sinned’ to be eligible for hell. If anything, the mother might go to hell before the unborn child…..

  • @armnatmom - Unfortunately that is not so. They had original sin at the time they were conceived which can only be washed away by baptism. As far as I know, abortionists don’t baptize the unborn before murdering them which means they go to Hell.

  • Both are a destruction of life but some may not think they can be compared beside each other.

Abortion is a unique argument and will always have PROs and CONs listed from many different sides, including mothers, doctors, and rape victims.

Child molestation will always be negative, however.

  • The priest in question is probably diverting blame from his kind for molesting children.  Molestation is far worse.

  • priest sexually abusing young people is worse. leaders, preachers, educators are not allowed for wrong doings.

  • @Love_in_102 – Thanks !

If you’re new to Theo’s (TheTheologiansCafe) posts, he usually writes about controversial topics that open up grand and interesting comments from others. But to my knowledge has never actually replied to a comment on his own site himself.

Perhaps – that’s part of his charm – he leaves the opinions and suggestions up to others and maintains a solid neutral unbiased position. And really with some of the differing views on these persuasive topics, that may not be such a bad position to adopt.

  • @dw817 - oh no, I’m friends with Theo! he’s pretty cool besides posting some very misleading titles every now and then. my comment’s somewhere on the first page.

  • Wow. Pretty ignorant priest.

  • Abortion is lesser by far.  It’s not even in the same category – the category of harming human beings.  My own experience with the Catholic church, in trying to get help for a burial for my Catholic father-in-law, showed me what they are made of on a personal level.  While I was first entirely ignored in the contact that I made, eventually I spoke to an out-of-town priest – who told me that the Catholic church doesn’t so much concern itself anymore with avoiding cremation.  He said they don’t like telling people what to do in that regard, because they prefer to concentrate on stopping abortion.  We don’t believe in cremation and found a way to have a burial.  But I will never forget what I see as callous and despicable disregard on the part of the Catholic church.  It heightened my awareness simply because it was personal, but it is clear that they have no concern for anyone who has been born.
