Little People or Midgets?
The Little People of America are asking the FCC to ban the word "Midget" on TV.
The little people are saying that the word midget is "just as offensive as a racial slur." The little people felt that an episode of "Celebrity Apprentice" was demeaning to them. The contestants in the show created a detergent ad called "Jesse James and the Midgets."
Joan Rivers and the other contestants suggested "bathing little people in the detergent and hanging them to dry." Here is the link: Link
Do you call them little people or midgets?

little people!
midget IS offensive.
but personally, i do prefer funsize. :)
Does it matter, so long as we don't call them late for dinner?
Dwarfism?
I don't really call them anything. I consider them the same as everyone else.Â
Midget is politically incorrect.
"Vertically challenged" is the correct term.
And "little people" will become offensive in 3... 2... 1...
If I were a midget/little person, I wouldn't care which I was called because universally they are pretty much known as the same thing and it's not really being used as an insult but only a factual statement. BUT, if they don't want to be called a midget then don't call them a midget.
I believe that the word "midget" is offensive. So I call them little people. ^^
But I also call little kids (from age 1 to 10) little people. Is that offensive? O.o?
@randomneuralfirings - XD Yeah, thanks to Dan!
usually little people, but I'd be lying if I said I never said midget.
Neither? I don't tend to talk about or refer to them.
"Little people" tends to sound like an insult right there. o_O But I say "little people", "people with dwarfism", and (I confess) "dwarfs" sometimes.
Sounds like they had bigger problems on Celebrity Apprentice than the use of the word "midget"... >.>
I call them midgets. If people can call me a Giant or Amazon Woman then I can call the midgets.
Dwarf or freak for sure.
Over the decades, the semantically-clearn "midget" has picked up an unambigiously negative connotation.
If a small change in langauge can keep from hurting a disadvantaged minority-- I think it's worth the inconvience.
Didn't we do away with "nigger" for much of the same reasons?
Yes, and next we're going to outlaw the word Dwarf and make the Lord of the Rings illegal for TV audiences... poor John Rhys-Davies, you'll have to get another job, after all. I can sympathize with their plight, but the answer lies in changing people's hearts- not banning words.
I'm called a midget by my friends (they're all like 5'7 and up, lol), and I'm 5'3 practically. But I have friends that are short, but I guess I don't really call them names like little people or midgets. I have yet to bunch them into one word, but I guess "shorter than me" people should be fine for me :D But I know people who have called them dwarfs.
@randomneuralfirings - And "little people" will become offensive in 3... 2... 1...
Sure. And given enough time, "African-American" will pick up the same venom as "Nigger."
I call them entertainment.
Midgets. Get over it.
Might as well call "Dwarves" in fantasy games racial slurs too.
They are people and they are little. So, little people for me. I have a friend that is part of the "Little People of America". He is the world's smallest evangelist. He comes to preach at our church. They have to move the pulpit out of the way or you wouldn't even see him at all. These people are great once you get to know them. Even though they look different, they are just little people.
@IfonEarth - Same.
@imjustfunsized - EXACTLY! *high five*

Midgets, but I'll stop naming them that now.
Just something else that some who want attention stir the whole pot. I have never put any thought to it myself. I am called all sorts of things being 6'10"...Jolly Green Giant, string Bean, stilts, tallman. People associate people who are a little different with names. Why get your panties in a wod over it.
