If Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan Had Been a Christian
I was watching FoxNews tonight and Bill O'Reilly had as a guest Bernie Goldberg.
The topic of the show was Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan who killed or was responsible for the deaths of 13 people.
Apparently Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan said, "Allah is great" before killing the people.
Bernie Goldberg pointed out that the liberal media has gone out of their way to suggest that we be careful to not focus on the fact that he was Muslim.
Bernie suggested that if Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was a Christian, it would be the headlines. It is interesting because I believe that is true. There is a constant attack against Christians but we have to be careful to ignore a religious attack by a Muslim.
In addition, we have to hear about the killing of an abortion doctor even though it was the doctor who was a Christian that was killed in church by a person who was an anti-government extremist. Then we also have to hear people point back to the Crusades that took place over 500 years ago. Once again, the Christian bashers have to go back 500 years to find a really good example of bad Christian behavior but those same people are unable to speak against bad Muslim behavior that has taken place in the last 8 years.
Do you think Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan would have been treated differently in the media if he was a Christian?

I don't know if his religion would have been pointed out if he was a non-Muslim of any sort.
Absolutely, he would've been. It seems to be a double-standard in society that we have to be so careful about other religions, but if it's a Christian, it's automatically pointed out and stomped on.
depends on who you and read and watch.. i think some would blow it up, some would report it like anything else.
ohh yeah.
Possibly.
Yeah.
Furthermore, Catholics and Protestants are still at war and killing each other in Ireland. So yes, atrocities are still committed in the name of Christianity to this day, as well.
It's been done before so why wouldn't they
Buh buh buh buh bbuuuuhhhh
Probably. But tiptoeing around the issue just draws attention to it, too.
possibly, first of all because he wouldn't have been on a jihad mission. makes no sense to have a terrorist serving in our Army during the War on Terror.
but, grainsandoats got it right: if he had been Christian perpetrating some insane 'mission of God', there would've been no tip-toeing around his religion--it would have been the focus.
Oh yeah. If Maj. Hasan was a Christian you can bet Keith Olbermann would go ballistic.
@GrainsAndOats - too true.
Definitely. The world will always be against Christians...until the Millennial Reign
@Eternalimplosion - I love your paranoia complex.
@mathematicalbagpiper - i have no paranoia. i just know what to expect.
@Eternalimplosion - Yeah, and you so conveniently ignore the most common type of religious persecution in the US...the persecution of atheists.
@mathematicalbagpiper - i can't ignore something that i am not aware of...but that wasn't the point of my comment. i wasn't trying to say that Christians are the most persecuted of all the "organized religions"
The world is ruled by spiritual forces, good vs. evil. Satan is roaming the earth, of course Christians are going to be persecuted until a theocracy is restored. Fundamental component of my belief system.
Dear Dan,
I don't care a whit about this whack job's religious affiliation. What really bothers me is that he was a certified army psychiatrist who certainly should never have been counselling returning veterans.
Who is watching the watchers?
Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool
@Eternalimplosion - That's why you strive for theocracy in America. Lovely.
And that's also why I recommend only atheists/agnostics/other non-believers for admission into university and graduate school science programs...your statements are so unscientific and unfounded I can't in good conscience recommend people of your ilk to study scientific related fields at the university or graduate level.
I think so. And as a Christian, I accept that others often feel better by putting down my religion and I don't want to do that to anyone else, because it really hurts. That's why I've deliberately left his religion out of my comments on this issue or said something like "It's not that he was a Muslim, it was that he thought things like suicide bombings were ok".
I don't know...possibly. I've heard a million times lately that he's muslim already, I don't think people are avoiding talking about it or anything. But they need to focus more on his mental state that religion, I think. I also think that more people need to realize that being Islamic isn't bad, it's being a radical Islamic that's bad - radical anything can be bad.
@mathematicalbagpiper - i dont force my beliefs down your throat. Of course my statements are unscientific, if you are trying to tie faith-based statements into science (which i do think science supports a Creator) then you are the one with twisted thinking. I will enter graduate studies in mirco and cellular biology next year, if i change my mind after receiving "higher education" then i will let you know. =]
Also, i said nothing about wanting America to be a theocracy. That is asinine. I was speaking of the end-times. The US will not exist.
@mathematicalbagpiper - wow. that last statement of yours is awfully prejudiced against all belief systems. Your assumption that someone of faith can't think scientifically is- well, beyond words. I suppose if @Eternalimplosion statements are proof to you of all believers ability to think logically and scientifically, I'll take yours as proof that atheists are all bigots. I mean if you are so scientific then I'll follow your logic, too.
The guy was a whack job and you'll find that sort in any theological belief ... take the mathematicaldouchbagpiper for instance.
