I Bought My First Lotto Ticket
I bought my first lotto ticket yesterday. I am 40 and I never played the lotto.
I never played the lotto because my dad had a gambling addiction. But I figured it wouldn't hurt this once (I wonder if that is what my dad thought).
Everyone at work was playing too.
Have you ever bought a lotto ticket?

I buy the odd one now and again in the United Kingdom, like once a year £1 per ticket, euro millions once a year.
Stop buying tickets when you need to support your habit through selling pies in the back of a pick up truck.
My Dad and friend would ask for advice for numbers on a lotto ticket but I've never actually bought one myself.
I've bought scratch offs and play slots in casinos, but I've never bought a lotto ticket (of course I've only been able to buy them for two years). I'd determined if no one won this week, I'd buy one next week when it would be nearly $1 billion. So much for that idea.
Congratulations!
I'd have to drive about an hour to the next state and wait in snake lines that are at least 3+ hours. I have work and will be tired after work to drive there. I'd probably have more chance of dying in a freak accident driving to buy the ticket than actually winning. I'd rather live
ehh...I don't play the lotto. and I hate long lines. when I see a line at the store of just 5 people, I don't even feel like waiting
nope, never.
When you add up the number of people who spent money on tickets and didn't win, I feel like I'm way ahead of the game because my money stayed in my wallet
Yes, I bought a few before. I didn't buy a ticket for this one though.
Never have, never will - Why? Because I think I would like it too much and not be able to stop.
yes, first one at legal age 18.
I bought my first one yesterday too :) NO BIG DEAL
I bought them only for my grandparents. Never for myself.
Not my idea of a wise use of funds, unless you won and in that case, I do need a new car
I buy some when the jackpot gets big enough. It's fun picking numbers and it;s fun dreaming about what you'd do if you won (pay off school loans, go on a trip, help parents etc). I spent 5 dollars this time around and the entertainment and excitement I got from anticipating the numbers was worth it. A lot cheaper than a movie. Also, the money goes to good things like education and national parks so I certainly don't feel like my money was wasted.
I hope you win!
I've tried it a few times.
I play poker, which is NOT a game of chance. Interestingly, the government has outlawed poker, but they want us to throw our money away on something with exponentially worse odds, and the government will make a grotesquely sick profit upon it in return.
I have in the past on a whim, but refused to buy this time around....
I have also bought scratch offs before. Have won plenty of times with those. Nowadays, I can think of better ways to spend/waste my money.
I would never waste my hard-earned money on stuff like that.
I bought one for Friday's drawing. For $1, I can dream, right?
I bought one lottery ticket for my 18th birthday, but lost. I just don't see the need to spend money when you are probably not going to make money. I think buying one for this huge mega millions drawing was probably a good first time to purchase one though :) Share the love if you win haha
I've bought a few.
I've only purchased scratch offs...but that was years ago because Hawaii doesn't have a lottery.
This was my first time, too. I put in $2 with my boyfriend and another dollar with my Friday night class. No luck.

No lie, the first time I ever bought lottery tickets, about 9 years ago, I bought three, scratch off tickets. All of them were winners. The first one was for $1, the next one $12. The third, I'm dead serious, here: $25,000. I haven't played much since, but I did spend $5 on tickets for last night's drawing. Didn't win anything.
Yup. I've had plenty of luck with the Ohio Lottery, won $2600 a week before Christmas in 2007. It's just fun to press your luck.
