Expiration Dates
The Unions have fought hard for cafeteria worker's rights to eat expired food.
The food was being given away or sold but now the cafeteria workers can eat the expired food. Here is the link: Link
Would you eat or drink something that was past the expiration date?

You mean like MILF's?
Did you know that there's an expiration date on bottled water? I feel safe drinking that.
@Celestial_Teapot - *slow clap*
If their only employment is cafeteria work then some expired eggs may one of their only sources of food for their family.
@Celestial_Teapot - lmaaaao
The date doesn't always mean expired... I have a microscope to check that kinda stuff. lol j/k yes... If I was starving... it sucks going without.
Yes. I did today.
I swallowed an expired pill once...am still alive.
I think expiration dates are simply a mechanism to avoid lawsuits similar to McDonald's "caution! hot!" label on coffee... I think this world would be a much better place if people weren't so lawsuit happy and cooperations could just trust people to use common sense...
That is a very long winded way of saying, yes, I'd eat expired food and I think cafeteria workers should be allowed to eat it too...
@la_faerie_joyeuse - omg, omg. You're back from the dead!
I would give you a hug, but then I remembered it was my job to disagree with you.
If there isn't anything growing on it and it smells ok,heck,why not!But if I put it in my mouth and it tastes rauchy,it's bein spit back out on the floor.
Expiration dates are just guidelines. It's not like sour cream ever goes bad.
That stuffs usually good up to two weeks after the expiration date. I wouldn't risk it with stuff like milk, though.
I do that at least once a week. It depends on what it is and how it smells.
Eggs can last up to about a month after their "expiration" date, which is a month after they're packed, I believe. If it's something like milk or yogurt I won't go more than a couple days. Cans I may go a year or two if they aren't bulged and smell ok. Oh, and I only get sick once or twice a year, and as far as I know it's never from food.
Yes, I do it all the time. Only once did I have a bad experience with some old cole slaw, and once with eggs, but besides that its been smooth sailing!
I used to work in a bakery and I learned that expiration dates do not mean they go bad on that date, it is when stores are supposed to take items off the shelf or restaurants must stop using the item. It is a protection thing, and I still use items after their exoneration date.
Even if it is close to expiring I am suspicious 8)
Yes.
it depends on what it is.
depends on what it is
No, I'm always scared I'll fall terribly ill
It's food. It's there. Just fucking eat it.
@Celestial_Teapot - Just cuz the moms turn you down doesn't mean they're the expired ones, pfft!
All the time..
How many folks read the link? The cafeteria can charge workers a fee for the food that they provide unless it is expired food. Businesses have to tighten up some of their costs while workers look to get as much as they can. The compromise is that the employees can take home food that is expired for free and will have to pay for the food that is not expired.
Some of the managers do not work regular hours. They are non union and often work longer hours because they are management. Not everyone works without benefits. The CEOs try to get raises and bonuses even if their company is losing money.
Bottom line is people here pointed out the expiration dates are a protection from lawsuits. I pity folks who try expired foods and can't determine if it is spoiled. I also say that folks who automatically throw away expired foods also are people who waste stuff. What can I say about a person who has to use towels once and need to wash it?
