Smart Enough for School
My oldest and I were discussing school and he mentioned that school just did not come easy for him. I noticed that school is easy for some and for others it is a challenge.
There were challenges in school and then graduate school but I always felt that the average person with average intelligence could pass every class if they just gave enough effort.
Did you think school was easy?

College has been pretty easy for me. I agree with you in that if you put effort into it, you can pass pretty much anything.
Some classes were challenging, others were not. *shrug*
It's easy but boring unless you have a hot teacher. Every class in college I had a hot professor I got almost 100%s.
Meh.
School was. It was the people there that made life hard for me.
Academically it was easy. Socially, it was hell.
It depends... I was abysmal at chemistry, but pretty good at everything else that I took. I think maybe people just get mental blocks for certain subjects-- maybe that's what happened with your oldest. I certainly wouldn't assume he's of less than average intelligence just because he's struggled with school. It's just not for everyone.
yes, school was easy for me, and I even slacked off a bit. But I enjoy learning most of the time, so that helped.
Depends on my fascination with the subject, which was usually (not always) driven by the teacher.
It was easy until my fascination with the subject ran out on a shitty teacher. Then I just made sure the teacher knew I was trying.
It got harder as I moved up but I love it as I'm a nerd.
I think high school was easier back in the 70s than it is today. I didn't go to college.
I totally agree with you that any person with an average intelligence will pass a class with a minimum of effort. School was neither hard nor easy for me as i never paid attention. I merely went from class to class looking out the window. I dont know how i have managed to learn how to read and write for that matter.
*sigh* ok just this once u can use my pic...i wear glasses and and am...eh sexy enough. Lol. So u can use my pic this time. School wasn't too easy for me...but I at least liked it.
School's easier now that I don't have to go anymore.
school was easy and hard depending on the subject. some subject I was great at (gym, history, english..), some I stuggled with (math, science). some people are naturally good at school, some aren't, it doesn't mean they're less than average, it could just be that school learning isn't for them.
Two things really. School was easy but it was hard too. The classes and instruction were fairly easy to do as my Dad brought me up with an early education but the other classmates were very hard on me because I was so uniquely different to them.
Therefore I wholeheartedly agree with @mtngirlsouth's post and recommend it.
Once I stopped going then tried to go back a couple years later, still under lots of stress, school was hard. Circumstances are important when judging someone's academic performance for sure. When your mind is elsewhere, concepts are much harder to grasp.
I'm reading a book called The Social Animal. At one point, the author mentions that people with 120 IQs and 150 IQs don't have radically different life outcomes or greater happiness or whatnot based on just their IQ. The real factor is how much work they put in to achieve goals and dreams and get to where they are.
It might be difficult for someone with an 80 IQ to get to where someone with a 180 IQ can get, but with enough hard work they can probably get at least halfway.
Pretty easy (granted I didn't go to Harvard)....I didn't try very hard and only did what was needed to get by. In many cases, I would only attend class on the test days if allowed.
If school is easy, you're not being challenged as you should and it's wasting your time. Learning should stretch your mind.
No not at all.
Thanks for letting me know about the missing photo, because that was my utmost concern
I have not found school or college to be difficult. Time consuming, yes... difficult, no.
School probably would have been easy if I had really cared about it. I was too busy figuring out hockey stats from gym class and planning moves for the next time I played Pokemon or Civilization. Also lots of Lord of the Rings and Wheel of Time on the brain. I had way too much imagination to care I guess.
I can't really say that school was easy for me, but there were classes that I enjoyed that made it a bit easier for me to get through it.
I've excelled in most classes such as art, literature, PE and alegbra. However I could only do an average job on higher level math and science (but human physiology wasn't too tough for me because I actually took an interest in learning within that class).
