Coed Showers
I was reading an article about coed showers at MIT. You are not really in the same shower but as you can see in this photo, the showers are right next to each other and there is a small curtain to help you keep your privacy. Here is the link: Link
I have heard people say that this arrangement would freak them out and others say it is no big deal.
Would it bother you to use a coed shower?

Yes
as long as there aren't pubes and jizz all over the floor.
The presence of the opposite sex wouldn't bother me as much as the presence of the filth left behind by the opposite sex.
Guys can't keep their eyes to themselves. I would want a relaxing shower not a shower where I am getting looked at!
LOL you just happened to be on the MIT admissions site on a bathroom blog? I don't mind co-ed bathrooms but if I'm showering having a guy in there even if I had a curtain would make me uncomfortable.
The size of the craniums at MIT would probably make me nervous.
I think the problem is that people have too much faith in others. Would it be so horrible to be in the same room naked with the opposite sex? OF COURSE NOT! But, back when the co-ed bathroom thing was up for grabs/debate, I was AMAZED at how many people just didn't care because apparently, "People don't do things like that..."
>_> And yet, there are hundreds of porn sites dedicated to hidden cameras in bathrooms, toilets, etc... >_> So, yeah... people... somewhere... do that.
My main concern is about things that are "accidental" ... let's say for instance that we COULD all live together in harmony in a naked bathroom heaven because everyone was polite, and no one ever purposefully did anything... Well, that does account for how easy "mistakes" can happen. Or accidents.
Like in the situation with the co-ed bathrooms... what happens when some little girl (11, 12) tries to go to the bathroom and some big man accidentally falls into the stall? Or tries to check if it's locked and the lock breaks? How many of us have felt the embarrassment of being "walked in on by accident" in a bathroom? Maybe some of us are liberal enough with our bodies not to care either which way, but lots of other people feel the need to protect their privacy at all costs.
I know that in certain situations, I'd just be really uncomfortable because something COULD happen, not necessarily "would"... But even still, I wonder why others have so much faith in everyone else. >_> It just really boggles my mind.
It's MIT, not like any of them have sex anyway. No big.
Ridiculous. Think of all the men just on Xanga who seem to think that women who wear skimpy clothes are asking for trouble. I believe that a young woman would be a fool to take part in this co-ed shower deal.
There are women smart enough to make it into MIT?
~*NO THANKS*~... I don't walk naked in front of my kids (three sons), why would I lower my self pride with strangers... I live in America Not France... and with the mindset here in the states, this is asking for trouble and to further loosen morals
time has come
The bigger question is, why are we all so afraid of nudity? Do women honeslty believe that men don't look at them sexually when they are in clothing or that clothing somehow magically protects them from harm?
I think if nudity were more common, it wouldn't be such a big deal.
I would have a problem around the women...As lame as it sounds I would simply get nervous around them. I think it might have something to do with the fact that im a virgin and have not really seen a naked women up close -_-
Time for a moral answer: in these difficult times people should not spend needed money on fripperies like stall curtains.
Oh, hell no! Although when I was in the Navy there were guys I'd rather share a locker room with than some of the girls. lol
Wouldn't bother me. When I was in college the majority of dudes on my floor walked around naked with astonishing frequency anyway... it's not like I'd be running into something I hadn't seen before
Nope. it should be clean, so why should it freak me out any?
Umm, no thank you.
I'm too self-conscious of my body to be comfortable in any sort of community shower.
Isn't every dorm room on a college campus like this? It was fine for me....it wasn't communal and you had plenty of privacy. It was more of a pain to walk down the hall!
NP. Seeing this old ladies naked body would scare those college kids so bad they would run faster than they ever have in their lives.
@ShamrockLover - Yes... a vast amount of colleges and universities employ coed shower facilities in the US.
People only seem to freak out about it when a college changes their policy from defined-separate to coed. Get over it. Nobody sees anyone else naked, people are too self conscious for that. You have your own showers, with curtains or even doors in some instances, and can enter and exit as covered or uncovered as you like.
If people are extremely uncomfortable with their bodies then walking around in a towel is not going to inform anyone of anything they do not already know about your body.
Women who fear sharing a showering facility room with men... go get some counselling, that is an unhealthy fear.
Men who are scared of sharing a showering facility with women... grow some balls, and some counselling would not hurt.
@whyzat - Even more ridiculous is the amount of women on xanga who think men are haphazard rape machines.
I really don't care anymore.
