A flyer was posted in a men's restroom at Miami University of the Top Ten Ways to Get Away with Rape. (I was given this link by
burn_journal).
The flyer reads "Practice makes perfect. The more you rape, the better you get at it." One line is "If you're afraid that the girl will identify you, slit her throat."
One is "Never take pictures or give your phone number to the girl you rape." It also encourages men to use protection. Here is the link:

Obviously this is in poor taste but it just seems like a stupid joke. Some are suggesting this is an indication there is a real problem at the school.
Do you think this is a sign there is a problem at the school?
Comments (105)
If you look at this sign and also take into account the number of rapes that have occurred in recent years in the Oxford area, yes there is a problem.
11. Have a super small penis and she won't even know you stuck it in!
I think trivializing the topic is dangerous, it doesn't matters if it's by jokes or just claiming flase rapes or calling every single gesture a rape, trivializing such a topic endangers the security and health of everyone.
Yea, I do kind of think that was in bad taste, even if it was meant to be a "practical joke". At LEAST it wasn't posted in the womens' restroom, right? Lol
Theo, you can do more intelligent subject matter.
@TakingxOverxMe - Yup, exactly.
no, i think it is indicative of a problem with society at large.
Yes. They are accepting stupid people. I hope they didn't give him a scholarship.
I think it is both in bad taste and an indication of a problem
...da fuq?
Yes, it is a problem.
@ShimmerBodyCream - i want to rec this, but I'll just leave a comment instead. oh geez. LOL. good one.
Considering that Miami U seems to get in trouble every couple of years for hazing and once even had a Panhellenistic council have to come in and intervene for their fraternities/sororities, yes, it's a problem.
Obviously something is wrong with the person who produced that, and it sounds like somebody who ought to be in prison. The school's failure to warn students even in that hall is a sign of something wrong with the school. That is no joke.
I think it says more about our society, ESPECIALLY if anyone "meant" this as some kind of joke. I say the local women ought to retaliate by posting signs on every tree, every telephone pole, every building that says:
Top Ten Ways to Dispose of a Rapist (or His Weapon)
As someone whose life has been ruined by rape, I find this appalling. It is irrelevant if it is a joke or not, it makes me want to find a list of the top 10 ways of getting away with vigilante justice.
The best chance anyone has of getting away with rape would be to vote for the Paul Ryan/Todd Akin anti-choice legislation which thankfully did not pass but originally claimed there is such a thing as legitimate rape and would have de-legitimized the phrase "No means no."
Obviously a bad joke.
Guess what people: free speech.
that's sick.
@Celestial_Teapot - That isn't what free speech means. Besides being an irrelevant defense in this case, it seems counterproductive that people use the excuse of "free speech" to protect oppressive, hateful, or violent speech.
Rape is never a joke and you should not have reposted it-poor choice.
My guess is that it was intended as a joke. An appalling, not funny at all joke, mind you. As for free speech, yes it applies in this case. The knucke-dragger who posted this won't be going to jail. But that doesn't mean that the people whom he has voluntarily associated with, like the administrators of the university, can't read him the riot act or decide to terminate their association with him.
@TheSutraDude - I'm sorry, but that's a lie.
This is ridiculous! They ought to expel the prick that posted it then work their way up. If that was posted somewhere I worked it would be removed so fast your head would spin. I can't imagine how long it was posted, but if the restroom was only for students, I would imagine nobody cared or was offended by it.
@randomneuralfirings - I'm sorry but it's not a lie. Paul Ryan and Todd Akin co-sponsored an anti-abortion bill in which had it passed would have redefined rape by using the term "legitimate rape" as an exception. This brought up the question "What is not legitimate rape?" and more importantly "When is rape not considered not legitimate?" Todd Akin answered by making the claim that if a woman becomes pregnant from a rape it could not really have been rape because the female body has ways of "shutting that whole thing down." Akin said legitimate rape victims rarely get pregnant. Because he made this claim the republican party tried for weeks to get Akin to drop out of his Senate race but he refused. Akin and Ryan were forced to change the language in their bill and removed the term "legitimate rape."
"From what I understand from doctors, that's really rare," said Akin said of pregnancy caused by rape. "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let's assume maybe that didn't work or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist." — Todd Akin
