Katie Couric Part 2
A little controversy has surrounded the promotion of Katie Couric starting her new news show. Apparently her photo was doctored to make her look younger and thinner.
Does it make a difference that her photo was doctored for promotional purposes?

It doesn’t really matter. So many people are air brushed in this day & age for promos. It makes me sad that people do it, but that’s what society has become.

Quite honestly, I really could care less, but I suppose it’s no different from what they do to models in magazines….it’s all just a big circus.

there could be possible legal repurcussions if she objected to the modifications but my guess is that since the network that is promoting her is selling news then they are not engaging in false advertising. but i’ve been at the law school and law library all day so that’s why this is such a departure in my usual response.
She sold out NBC who gave her everthing she needed. Who cares? CBS doesn’t really care since it will knock the Today Show out of the top spot. Too bad she lacks the class of a Willard Scott or Joe Garagiola. (only the old folks will remember them.)

There was another picture, too, where it had been released pre-doctoring before and the post-doctoring one was more recent. And the change was frighteningly obvious.
But in the end, who cares? Everyone does it anyway. She’s not the only one being doctored to look better.

I dont think its right, but she is beautiful, and does a good job. Alot of people already knew who she was so its not like shes a new thing.
I think making a big deal of it is a planned event. It helps to draw peoples attention to the publicity for the news show..

It happens all the time, and I think it does matter every time – because then people end up believing that they have to look like someone who stepped out of a magazine, when such a feat is clearly impossible. No wonder eating disorders are so widespread these days…

Howard Stern once said he hates being airbrushed, saying that it never looks anything like him. I think in her case, it doesn’t look much like her, or him either..

I don’t think it really makes a difference, just because I’m used to it now. It’s just kind of sad to me how pretty much every bus banner, billboard ad or magazine cover has been airbrushed, and some people genuinely think that is reality and those photos are untouched.
I think it makes a difference in the way she looks, and I think it’s a total load of crap that she likes the original better, but I don’t understand the controversy.
It is in keeping with CBS’s policy of doctored news stories. Katie will fail miserably and CBS still has to pay her $40 million HA HA HA! ASSHOLES!

My wife used to work in promotion, and I can say that if the photo isn’t doctored in some way, the promotionist needs to find another job. Of course it matters! It initially gets people there. But on the other hand, WHAT does it matter? people might see the ad and flip to the show, but if all they get is crap, then they won’t stay long, and the show will flop.
I’m a little disappointed in her if she allowed it. I thought she was above that kind of thing. Just proves she is as prone to paranoia as the rest of us. Sometimes it’s tough to start a new high profile job in the middle age of life.

It didn’t make me magically like her anymore than I did before. I don’t think it swayed anyone here one way or the other: either you like her from her work on ‘The Today Show’ or you have her colonoscopy saved on to your DVR and watch it when you’re having a bad day. Her being airbrushed, just like everyone else, doesn’t matter in the long run. It does bring to question how honest and upfront her news reporting will be…but that’s every channel that cares about staying in business, I suppose.

Being a protrait painter, I do the best job of bringing out the best of anyone. I had a photo taken of me that was touched up, and I think I look GREAT IN IT. She does, too. I am all for it.
