I think that saying “oh its creepy” and “I don’t understand why people would think a cartoon is hot” is actively denying the fact that many of these disney girls were designed to be sexy. I think it takes a bit of self delusion to not understand that some guys find these gals hot.

It’s only creepy in the wrong minds. On one hand, it looks like a bunch of men who’re lusting over animated fictional characters. On the other, it’s just a bunch of men judging innocently which character looked better than the others out of artistic quality (in the broadest sense).

NO! Cartoon people are the uber-shmex! My first animated love was Skeeter Valentine from Nicktoon’s Doug! Then I moved on to fictional characters like Severus Snape from Harry Potter, and my romanantical (but highly unlikely, of course) interests spread –I know have an animated/fiction harem list including characters from all sorts of places! …It’s just something fun. It’s not like I’ve got the uber-hots for this person and when I get a boyfriend I”m going to make him dress up like Jack Sparrow or anything… although that would be totally fun! People can’t appreciate high art and beauty when they see it. God fashioned woman. He molded her like a scuplture until she was perfect to Him. When the feminine form is drawn, wouldn’t it therefore follow that there would be a level of attraction because it is a reflection of God’s handiwork?

Hm, I’m starting to wonder about myself now .. I was all set to say no, they’re designed to be pretty. Seriously, what makes them any different from a character played by an actress? I always thought Ariel was the prettiest Disney Princess, and as someone else pointed out, she is half naked. I mean, what’s the big deal about finding them attractive? People design video games with half naked girls and no one freaks out about teenage guys thinking they’re hot. Granted, I always thought that was a little sketchy, but if it’s just someone expressing an opinion, I don’t think that’s weird. I think what’s creeping people out is the fact that it’s Disney animation, which we so naturally associate with kids. But remember, these are adults drawing the characters (or were, at least). So they probably wanted them to attract (commercially speaking) parents as well by not making fugly characteres.

Yes, there is something VERY INAPPROPRIATE in the Little Mermaid, but only on original VHS copies. It was edited out of DVD releases, most recently the Platinum 2-Disc edition.

Also, I just had a thought. Would everyone be as weirded out if people started talking about the Princes? I know when my suitemate received the 2-Disc Little Mermaid (and we all dropped what we were doing to sit and watch it, lol), we got into a discussion about who was the most attractive Prince. It’s only creepy if you seriously have some kind of fetish for them or think they’re real. I think it’s only natural to think they’re hot because some characters are drawn to be the ideal women, since most of the time they’re created by MEN! Look at all the animated female comic book characters, they’re all running around with big boobs and skin tight, skimpy clothing. And look at how many men drooled over the Lara Croft character. Even though Disney’s more G rated, the girls are still always drawn to be very pretty.
Same goes for the Disney leading men too. I’m sure there are little girls out there who want to grow up to marry Prince Eric from the Little Mermaid. I always liked the guy from Anastasia…but then again, I’d rather marry the real life John Cusack.

Is it not possible for an animated character to evoke emotional response? Disgust. Sympathy. Sadness. If that is true, then why not attraction? Sure it might be a bit freaky (probably a lot less freaky than the first time folks might have heard about homosexuality) but for people to not be able to understand or imagine it?
