  • Money and the Blind

A federal judge ordered the Treasury Department to make money so that the blind can use it.

All of the paper money used in the United States is the same size and has the same feel to it.  So blind people have been having friends fold over money in certain ways so they could tell their money apart.  Here is the link:  Link

But a federal judge ruled that the government is discriminating against blind people by printing it all the same.  So now the Treasury Department has to come up with a new solution.

Should the government have to change the way it makes money to accommodate the blind?

  • Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson

Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson broke up after four months of marriage.

Vowing to stay together: Pamela Anderson shares a drink with husband Kid Rock on their wedding day, July 29, in Saint-Tropez, France.

My wife said that she doesn’t see what Pamela Anderson saw in Kid Rock.  I told her it was because he was so cool.  She thought he was a nerd.

What do you think Pamela saw in Kid Rock?

  • BMI Part 2

Apparently I am overweight.  I had a conversation via messages with PacifismPlease.  I am 6’4″ and I weigh 245 pounds.  She pointed out that I was overweight and close to obese on the BMI chart.  So I checked it on the BMI calculator.

My BMI is 29.8.  I am .2 from being obese.

  • The Pope Part 3

The Pope is visiting Turkey for the next four days.

He has come under fire from Islamic groups for comments he made in which people perceived he was linking Islam and violence.

He has been burned in effigy.  25,000 Turks showed up to an anti-Vatican protest in Istanbul hoping for him to not come to Turkey.

    Dear normally very peaceable Muslims,

    Please don’t kill the Pope.

    Your friend,

    Dan

If you were the Pope, would you visit Turkey?

  • Library Porn

I used the email posting feature this morning and as you can see from the post below it worked perfectly.  It posted 6 1/2 hours later and with a yahoo advertisement with it. (Apparently people still can’t get enough of Jesus or rabbits having sex).

    Here we go:

A library in Mt. Clemens shut down Internet access because people were using the internet to look up porn.  The concern was that children and families may see the material.  The computers had filters but the “law requires them to be turned off if a patron over 18 requests.”

Should porn access be banned from public libraries?

  • Free Speech

so, it’s kestryl posting for dan again; (who knows what’s keeping him from his loyal readers this time?) :

The Rev. Jesse Jackson was asked the other day if the N-word was covered under free speech. He said that it was “unprotected.” Jesse Jackson has called on people to boycott the release of the seventh season of Seinfeld on DVD.

Is the N-word covered under free speech?

  • Monster Ego

I was reading an article by Michael Kinsley about social network sites and how they bring out the enormous ego in a person.  He mentions in his article “There is something about the Web that brings out the ego monster in everybody.”

The idea is that it takes a certain amount of self-absorption in order to post things about your life and think people would actually be interested in them.  He mentions how it would give a tendency to exaggeration but focuses in on the fact that people are actually revealing more and more about themselves as if it should interest people.  Here is the link:  Link

Does it take a certain amount of self-absorption in order to have a xanga site?

  • Women Talking

Women talk almost three times as much as men.  All of this is according to a woman psychiatrist named Dr. Luan Brizendine.  Here is the link:  Link

Why do women talk so much?

  • Getting “Lanced”

Hi, this is mightymarce and I’m guest blogging for Dan today.  Here goes:

There’s been some controversy lately in the blogosphere over celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton.  Perez (openly gay himself) has taken it upon himself to “out” gay celebrities.  First it was Lance Bass, who finally came out publicly this fall after repeated posts about Bass’s sexuality led to rampant rumors and speculation.  Since then, Perez has forced T.R. Knight and Neil Patrick Harris to come “out of the closet.”  (The phenomenon even has a nickname now… to be “lanced“)

Perez claims to simply be doing his job as a celebrity news outlet, stating “I don’t think it’s a bad thing. If you know something to be a fact, why not report it?… I know there is some controversy about outing people, but I also believe the only way we’re gonna have change is with visibility.  And if I have to drag some people screaming out of the closet, then I will.”

Others view his actions as a blatant breach of privacy.  Some feel that forcing homosexuals to go public before they’re ready is just a different form of oppression, and that it could harm their careers (for example, an actor who plays a heavily desired male on a show might not be as believable anymore if people find out he’s gay).  Then there’s the hurt caused from friends and family finding out online, such as Lance Bass’s mother finding out that he was gay from online rumors.

So, here’s my question to you all:

Does Perez Hilton have a right to force gay celebrities out of the closet?  Or is this an invasion of privacy?
