  • oh god yes. unless you get unlimited and text a LOT

  • haha i went 40 bucks over my text messaging limit once. so now i have unlimited.

  • I text all the time….i now have unlimited after going almost 1000 over my texts…. yeah…its too expensive

  • i wouldn’t know. I don’t have a cell.

  • never! DIE TEXTING! DIE!!

  • I dont know, I have that blocked. Dont know how and dont care to learn

  • Yes. That’s why I don’t use it.

  • yes.

it brings such pain to my dear parents every month.

  • Well, I guess it’s too expensive for me. I don’t know if it really is too expensive for what it’s worth.

  • The prices in the USA are insane when you compare them to the rest of the world. In Europe it’s quite cost effective.

  • It’s not only expensive, it’s unnecessary.

  • Used to be like eighty bucks a month.. but now we got some deal that it’s like free within service. And everyone has the same thing as me. So now it’s like.. ten bucks? I can deal with that.

  • HECK….i can text my xanga Pulse entrys….. what could be better?

  • HELL YES IT IS! My bill was over $100 dollars last month because of text charges. It was ridiculous!

  • my dad pays the bill plus i don’t even text anymore so…

  • yes.

  • Probbaly, but i dont do it too much. i think its dumb – thats what the computer is for… I dont want to have people texting me all day and interupting my life. Same thing with the cell phone. I dont mind a few calls but sometimes people are on their cell phone all the time and missing out of stuff around them.

  • usually my friends don’t do it. I noticed a lot of girls do it all the time I don’t really understand it

  • We all have a package for the month, and we haven’t gone over yet.  It actually saves some airtime for us…

  • haha, i don’t even have a cell phone, so i dunno.

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They’re not too expensive.. they’re just.. stupid. I don’t get what purpose texting serves other than to allow kids who shouldn’t have cell phones in school to use them in school without getting caught.

  • I think that if you have a plan then they are pretty cheap (I think I pay $6 bucks a month for it). But if you don’t have a plan then it is quite expensive.

When I lived in the Philippines, lots of people had cellphones and they mainly used them for “texting.” It was about 3 cents per message, which was much cheaper than the 13 cents per minute of calling.

  • i think text messaging should be cheaper, but why would companies make it cheaper if they know their customers are willing to txt anyway? if they can, they will and if people don’t like it, they won’t text. oh…boy!

personally, i text & my parents get mad at me.
they say, “you can’t text because you can’t pay the bills!”

and i think about it…then i’m like, “well…it doesn’t help that my friends text ME!” and THAT costs money.

i think we should receive texts for free.
we can’t help it if our friends are in need of our attention!

  • 5 cents a text aint bad. Its all I really use my phone for-I hate calling people..

  • Not if you’re smart about it. My plan has 200 text messages (Sending and receiving.) for $5.

  • I’ve never done it (and only talked on a cellphone a few times in my life lol) buT YES. Way to expensive for me to even see a point to it. . .

  • Wow, I had no idea it was THAT MUCH of a price difference .. and my parents are always on my case about using the internet on my phone, heh. I have unlimited texting, which is great because I am ALWAYS texting people, but that still blows my mind. To answer your question, yes; unless you are constantly using it and therefore have an unlimited plan, texting is too expensive.

  • not when you consider how much long-distance is

  • Yes but it’s so addicting

  • Oh yeah. -_-’

  • Most everything we buy in the world is too expensive because people are basically greedy by nature. That’s why I can never pay off my medical debt.

  • Yeah, especially since people choose to text things like “Yo” or “Ok” instead of incorperating them into longer texts and saving me mone.y

  • and i think about it…then i’m like, “well…it doesn’t help that my friends text ME!” and THAT costs money.

i think we should receive texts for free.
we can’t help it if our friends are in need of our attention!

EXACTLY. I’m so sick of the stupid “im drunk” or “im high” text. Unless you’re going to get me drunk or high don’t fucking text me.

  • yes. it probably tacks on at least $5.00 to my dad’s cell bill every month. my sister can’t be bothered to call to ask questions, and I don’t know most of my friend’s schedules, so I just text them when I have a question of my own.

  • yes, thats why i dont have it.  wish i did though.

  • Yeah, for what you’re getting, the cost is way too high.
    That’s why I limit mine.

  • Probably. haha I still use it.

  • lizzie mcguire

  • I love text messaging… guess I will just have to pay that extra money.

  • for the same reason you pay .99 for a burger it cost the high school kid .25  to make. you are paying for more then the texting

  • No, because people do it all the time. They wouldn’t if it was too expensive. (Of course, it probably is too expensive for some people, yet they do it anyway.)

  • nope. especially if you’re on verizon. unlimited IN texting. so fun.

  • I’m about to find out. Mrs. Marclar just discovered it.

  • i text cause i dont have that many mins on my phone….and the friends i text… have unlimited text as well….so it acutally saves me $$$

  • yep and stupid as well. =p

  • Verizon is rediculous.

  • wtf is that?

  • YES!

  • YES.

  • ten cents per message? i think so.

  • No. Totally worth it.

  • not if you have an unlimited plan

  • it’s not too expensive if you have a good plan. and it’s amazing, so it’s worth it no matter what

  • since very few people pay per message, not really. most pay a flat monthly unlimited use fee.

  • i have unlimited picture AND text messaging. ‘Cept for messages going overseas…

so the $20 a month I pay for the unlimited is worth it…

    *HUGS*

  • I don’t really pay much myself because I’m on a plan with a whole bunch of people

but if I were on an individual plan it would really be too much..

  • Yes, definitely. I have VM, and I actually ran over the 1000 txt plan once.

I’m more controlled now, but still paying $5/200txts.

  • No, I don’t think so…on the other hand, it does really add up.

  • Nope. It’s SUPER CHEAP here in Malaysia (only 8 cents per text message to any local lines, regardless of telcos), and I’ve heard that text messaging is free in Singapore. Ha.

  • Oh, I meant 8 cents in my currency. Not 8 cents in American dollars.

  • I have never text messaged before. Stone Age? More than likely.

Having your own blogring “standard fare?” Not in my neighborhood! Thanks for you comment. I do appreciate it a great deal.

  • Not if you get unlimited

  • I love it, even if it is too expensive.

  • definitely too expensive to want to do it on any regular basis. i really only text Ben if I know he is in a concert, or class; and i text my sister because she’s terrible about clearing out her voicemail inbox.

  • Each of us decides for ourselves what is too expensive.

The real test is, do we buy it? When we buy something, we’re making a statement that we’re willing to accept the price.

We may not LIKE the price. We may even feel like we’re being gouged. But in the end, when your two choices are either accept the price or walk away, if you accept the price then you’re saying that it isn’t too expensive. If the price is so high that you can’t bear to part with the money, that’s when you know it’s too expensive.

Perhaps the question you meant was, is it more expensive than it should be?

If you think so, then start a cell phone company with text messaging and offer the text messaging at a lower price. One of two things would happen. On the one hand, if you sell the text messaging for a lower price but still make a decent profit, then your new company will thrive and you’ll bring pressure to the other cell phone companies to lower their prices too. On the other hand, if you sell the text messaging for a lower price but can’t turn a profit, then that’s an indicator that the price for text messaging was actually about right.

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssss!

  • What’s sad is wanting to text someone, but not doing it because you’re afraid they aren’t on a text plan and are going to be charged a lot of money for it. Or texting a house phone. That’s sad

  • Yes.  I don’t even see why.

  • i never could understand why not just complete a call ?

  • i used to have unlimited but now i got like 3000 and i keep on going over my text … and all i do is text 5 different pple … my fiance included who is on the same phone bill with me

  • Mm, yeah. But I don’t really care because I rarely text message. Like, 3 times a year. Hahaha.

  • Not for me. I have pre-paid since I don’t talk a lot…and I get unlimited text for 75 cents a day…and unlimited night and weekend minutes.

  • It is. I’m on a plan where I get 50 or so text messages for $5. It’s all I ever use in the month and saves me money.

  • Yes. They should charge it by the minute instead of how many times. That would please everybody. Maybe the cell phone company does not care because most of the time the callers who text message a lot are young kids or teenagers. And most likely they are being paid for by their parents so don’t really care if they wasting a lot of money by text messaging.

  • I suppose, but if you find a good plan that works for you, texting is incredibly affordable and useful.

  • visit my blog… i need some comments and opinnions! thanks!!!

  • They’re too expensive for me to make use of them.

But not too expensive for a large portion of America.  And enough people use it to make them boatloads of cash.  I’m not sure a lot of people think stuff like that through.  Being fiscally irresponsible is something Americans tend to be good at from what I can gather.

Something I also never got is why a phone is used to text.  It’s like a step backwards as far as technology goes.  I guess kids can do it during class or whatever, but some people carry on conversations and stuff.  I don’t get it.

I’ll keep using my 500 minute plan shared with my wife with rollover without ever getting close to using it all.  I was hesitant to get one in the first place, but they’re more convenient than a hard line.

  • Heck yeah, I had to keep upping our family plan because younger son and his girlfriend text uncontrollably.

  • YES!!!!

  • No its not cause most plans include texting now or you can pay for unlimited texting

  • Unlimited texting.

    I text a LOT.

  • Not for me! I get unlimited text for 5.99 a month, but I have Cellular South, I know it costs way more with Cingular though and that’s why I dont’ have Cingular.

  • I have unlimited and I send about 5 a month.

    wtf?

  • Sigh… ok, the hysterical liberal comment…

THIS IS A GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY! EVIL US CORPORATIONS ARE RAPING THE CONSUMER, WHOSE SPIRIT HAS BEEN DULLED BY THE BLIND OVER A CLIFF CONSUMPTION LIFESTYLE PERPETUATED BY CAPITOLISM!

    RENOUNCE ALL YOUR POSSESSIONS….

To save baby polar bears? I don’t know, I lost track…

  • > That would depend on whether or no you were: 1.Texting while driving and were in an accident. 2. #1 plus you took a life…. How expensive does it get or have to be??

    Peace

  • if you’re in the u.s don’t ever text someone in cyprus, my text messaging bill alone was 77$ U_U

  • yes which is why I dont use it
