  • Killing

    I posted about an 11-year-old boy who shot a wild hog that is considered to be the biggest pig ever discovered.

    When the original story was first printed, people doubted it was even real.  Now the young boy is being offered a small part in the upcoming movie “The Legend of Hogzilla.”  Here is the link:  Link

    The boy’s family has set up a website for him and he has received a ton of negative emails and comments about what he did.  Some are calling him a killer and wishing the same thing would happen to him.  He has been called fat.

    Most of the negative comments are centered around that fact that he shot the animal and that the animal ran for 3 hours before he died.  There was also a concern about how excited the boy was to kill an animal.  Here is the link:  Link

    Is it a sign of sickness that an 11-year old boy would be excited to have killed a wild animal?

  • whoa mama… boys should be encouraged to be boys

  • Sickness indeed! *horrified*

  • i really don’t think it’s a sign of sickness… most boys like to hunt. i wouldn’t be into killing an animal, but i don’t think there’s anything odd about a eleven year old boy getting excited that he killed one of the biggest pigs on record.

  • If you look at a kid like that who was able to take down something 9 times his size, you should be proud of the boy.
    He didn’t crap himself or anything.

  • hell no…. how did people eat back in the day before processed food?…. they killed animals…

  • I don’t like hunting, but I wouldn’t go harass this boy whose parents had him start hunting at age 5 and tell him it was sick he was excited.   He’s been doin it since he was little, of course he would be excited.

  • God created animals to be…you guess it…eaten!

  • Violence towards animals is an early symptom of psychoses. So yes, I’d say so. Also, the manner of killing the hog could’ve been a bit more humane. At least kill him, don’t let him run around in pain for 3 hours!

  • I think that hunting is fine if the game is for food.And  it is fine to be proud of those accomplishments.I do not like hunting for sport.

  • I would say that it is a sign that the boy has grown up around hunters and thinks that killing a wild animal is nothing usual.  A boy from a different environment would have a different attitude.

    I wonder if the people condemning him for his excitement eat meat?  (or is it different to have the animals killed in a meat processing plant?)

    It is a shame that the animal took so long to die and had to suffer, but an animal that is attacked by a predator in the wild doesn’t always die immediately, does it?  I’m sure the boy would have preferred that it had died right away. The suffering wasn’t intended.

  • I don’t think it’s a sign of sickness since hunting has been a trait of boys/men since the dawn of time.  It’s a WILD animal!!!  It would be a sign of sickness if it were a pet, even more so if it were his own pet.

  • if i took down an elephant with a handgun, i’d be excited as hell

  • I guess PETA and all their disciples would have a problem with it, but man, THAT’S ALOT OF BACON!!!! I would be proud of him if that was my boy.

  • Maybe.  I found it funny how some of the “negative” commens were so unintelligently written and so many people stooped to such a low level.  I’m sure their so proud that they called an 11 year old boy a “fat ass”.  You’d think if they were so against what he did, they’d talk about that and not call him a bunch of horrid names or wish that he would die. sheesh!

  • Heck  No! Hunting is the norm where I’m from. In a way I’m always a little sad that I’ve never shot a deer or anything.

  • another thing… with an animal that big, it would take a pretty good shot to kill it instantly. i think the bleeding to death is sad… but it probably wasn’t intentional. and that’s how animals are butchered in a lot of countries too.

  • Hunting is not a sickness.  The bizarre aversion to killing animals by people who eat meat, wear leather, inject insulin… might be.

  • i also agree with wren_tin_tin

  • Why did he shoot the animal? Was it just to kill an animal; because he could? Then I am more than horrified. I am repulsed and furious. Not to mention the fact that the kid is a lousy shot.

    If he killed it for food…then, he’s just a lousy shot.

  • ryc: thanks, maybe I will!

    re this post: that is one big friggin pig. I mean, really. Wow.

    I certainly wouldn’t call the kid horrible things or wish the pigs fate on him, or call him fat. But I am disturbed at a little boy’s excitement over killing a living thing.

  • ok.. third comment.. but i have to point out the guy on the negative comments quoting thou shalt not kill. ?? that was definitately NOT referring to animals. wow.

  • The kid shot the thing with a pistol then chased it for three hours.  its being turned into about 500 lbs of sausage.  he’s eating what he killed, and heck…it was pretty spectacular.  its not sick.

    Sick is peoples obsession with Lindsay Lohan.

  • Some people live in an artificial world were their meat comes prepackaged and there exposure to the “real” world comes through the TV.

    They tend to have very strange ideas on most subjects, hunting just one of them

  • Oh Paige…this topic would be massive ammo for making fun of Rosie O’Donnell.

  • That’s a pig???!!!

  • Yes! It is wrong.  If it  had been a cat or a dog nobody would build a website for him.  Just because the pig is not furry and cute doensn’t mean it’s okay to kill him.  WTF?

  • We country bumpkins like to call that huntin’, and there is nothing wrong with an 11 year old being proud of his kill–especially if it is record breaking. That pig can feed a few third world villages! Geesh! He’s huge!

  • haha, no!
    If i was into hunting id prolly be pretty darn excited about shooting that humungoid thing.

  • haha, no!
    If i was into hunting id prolly be pretty darn excited about shooting that humungoid thing.

  • the sign of sickness is they are offering him a part in a movie over it…

  • It is a sign of sickness of our society that there is so much controversy about a child going hunting. If more kids his age spent such quality time with their fathers maybe we wouldn’t have the gang-member, drug-abuser, criminal teens filling up our high schools, ya think? And then there is the obvious fact revealed here, that most Americans are too ignorant to think about where their food comes from.

  • It’s simply a sign of being a normal young boy who has grown up around hunting.

  • ehhhhh… a lot of little boys like to do stuff like that.  Kids get excited when they catch a big fish, how is this any different?

    Although I’m hoping to raise little vegetarian, animal-loving boys. :)

  • First off, I’d be pretty excited to be the killer of any sort of world record hog, be it wild or domestic. Second, it’s extremely irrational to wish the same fate on the boy, it’s that attitude that has lead to the loss of value we place on human life in our society. The pig’s life is not > (greater than) or = (equal to) that of the boy’s.

  • I don’t know about sickness, but I don’t see how people can get excited about killing something. Of course, he probably learned this attitude from one or both parents.

    That being said, I don’t see anything wrong with hunting if the kill is used for food. What became of this porker?

  • I don’t think it is an issue.
    It is basically the same concept of what Americans are doing in Iraq.
    Killing.
    Doesn’t matter if it is animals or terrorists…its all killing.
    So, I don’t think we should be concerned…
    Soldiers get medals for killing other humans-
    But this boy get ridiculed for killing a pig?
    That doesn’t seem right.

  • I don’t think so.  In fact, I think hunting is good for boys.  I’m from East Texas where we believe that hunting keeps kids off the streets and away from drugs.  I honestly believe that teaching kids something like hunting or something else keeps them from doing stupid stuff.

    Some people live in an artificial world were their meat comes prepackaged and there exposure to the “real” world comes through the TV.

    They tend to have very strange ideas on most subjects, hunting just one of them

    I really agree with this comment!

  • “Hunting is not a sickness.  The bizarre aversion to killing animals, by people who eat meat, wear leather, inject insulin… might be.”

    Hunting is not my thing. But I totally agree with this comment.

  • Darn that kid. Now I’ll have to find another giant pig to guard my lair.

  • So he shot and killed a wild hog? I can’t see any harm in that. Perhaps if he had shot and killed Rosie O’Donnell (a different type of hog), would people have been more or less upset. This kid obviously knew what he was doing and probably has his head on straight.

  • he’s not sick :)

  • FUCKIN A!!!!

    damn this kid should offer lessons on how to hunt, taking down a 100 lbs pig with a hangun,

    well it was a .50 cal, but what else do u hunt some thing that big with???

    either way that kid is Fucking amazing!!!

  • No, not at all. It’s just hunting. Besides, I initially thought Hillary Clinton was trying to score points with gun owners by posing for a picture with this kid. I guess I should have worn my glasses, huh?

  • Oh goodness, no, he’s not sick.  He was HUNTING with his FATHER.  Should my 3-year-old daughter not be able to get excited when she reels in a fish when she’s with her Daddy?  Oh no!  She killed a fish!  I better get her set up in therapy now.

  • boys will be boys. hunting has been around for centries. if he started going on about killing domestic animals like dogs, cats, horses, etc. there is a difference. but to be excited that you killed ‘Hogzilla’, more power to him. leave him alone.

  • It is true that many people who grew up to be highly disturbed individuals, like homicidal murderers, etc, tortured animals when they were children.

    Then again, if they boy comes from a hunting family, being excited about your kill is a normal reaction– it’s what’s taught to you.

  • No it shows he is normal.  Men like to kill things.  Its the whole hunter / gatherer thing.  There is no such thing as evolution as men have not evolved at all.  Hahaha.  The women in his family just have not ‘civilised’ him yet.

  • being excited about hunting isn’t sick at all! my best friend goes hunting every season and she’s always excited! (and they do use the meat for food, not for sport). Hunting used to be the only way mankind could eat!

    It is terribly sick, however, that many of the people who are against killing animals are pro-abortion. It is a horrible contridiction to condemn the killing of animals, but support the killing of human beings.

    amanda

  • I mean, it’s not like he tortued it or was trying to be mean to it. He was hunting for god’s sake, and he got a pretty amazing kill.

    amanda

  • Apes are animals. Liberal say we evolved from apes. Therefore, since Liberals think they came from apes and are therefore animals, I do believe that the question is “is it wrong to shoot Liberals?”

  • If I saw that thing coming towards me, I probably would have tried to kill it too…

  • damn. thats one humongous pig. kudos to the kid. but no, it’s not sick. he was probably raised hunting. thats cool to get excited. other people might get excited if they made the winning hoop in the game or got into your college. people are proud of what they did and he has the right to be proud as well as bragging rights.

  • wow, i just read the negative comments on that boys site and most of them say pretty much the same thing (“killing is wrong rot in hell”) and attack the boy and his family personally with petty insults, apparently for lack of anything intelligent to say.

  • That kid will grow up to be one of the most manly rednecks in history.

    And he’ll probably get fatter by feasting on the flesh of his kill.

    Fuck you politically correct bastards. He killed a pig, it would’ve been discovered and killed by someone else. Fuck PETA and fuck pigs.

  • NO! That’s wrong that people could say that to an eleven year old!

  • welcome to the real world, not the sterilzed one the media wants us to live in. the kid not only took down a huge pig with a handgun, but he made sure he went after it for THREE hours to make sure and finish it off. Had he not done that, then I would be honked off. But he stuck with it and didn’t leave the thing out to die like so many hunters would do. Now, he gets to be in the book of records and has an accomplishment he can be proud of the rest of his life. Not to mention keeping the freezer full for quite awhile. Good for him.

  • Not if his family are a bunch of avid hunters

  • call it primal instinct. man has hunted ever since the dawn of time… why should it be frowned upon now? unless it was done in a cruel and unusual way… torture would be sick.

    i say hes clear.

    fyi… i woulda effing messed myself if i saw something like that. lol. thats not a pig, thats a creature from “Where The Wild Things Are”

  • Dude..it’s time for a massive town size pig pickin’.

    anyone else in for this shmorgasborg?

    to bad it’s not kosher, though.

  • Violence towards animals is an early symptom of psychoses. So yes, I’d say so. Also, the manner of killing the hog could’ve been a bit more humane. At least kill him, don’t let him run around in pain for 3 hours! SuperEvilPopTart64
    What?  Cruelty to animals can be something in a child’s history that is often indicative of their own abuse.  Sometimes it is an indicator of conduct disorder–anti-social as an adult, but that comes with a lot of other criteria to be met.  Psychosis? Huh?  The cruelty to animal reference is not about hunting.  Kids tearing off frog legs, putting an animal in a microwave, poking eyes out for fun, etc. is torture to obtain pleasure——don’t know why this animal bled to death instead of killing it instantly, however——will go to the link and see if he just kept running and they couldn’t then just take him out of his misery sooner.  I’ve got to say I wouldn’t have wanted to be on a hike and have that giant thing greet me!  I had no idea they could get that big.  It must been a neglectful pig mom who only fed it processed food, so I expect to hear about her in the news next…….piggy went to market and bought all the wrong foods for her baby, disgusting.  Pig sooie, Razorbacks woooooooooooooooooo

  • no, boys will be boys…

    you do have to wonder about his family to let him start deer hunting at age 5, and allowing him to use pistols instead of hunting rifles.

  • I think it’s horrible. I just don’t condone killing of any kind unless you would then eat the animal for food. Why take the life of something when it’s just going about it’s own business, especially something so precious and special as something like that. Something so rare should be kept alive to live out its life for as long as it can.

  • maybe if it was the family cat that he tortured to death, but in this case i’d say probably no. maybe he knew how much attention he would get

  • Killing an animal for meat or whatever is fine. When you start getting joy out of torturing an animal then something is wrong.  Leave the kid alone. Sheesh.

  • Ha. D: That’s exactly what I said when I first read the article.

    Something that big and awesome should have been allowed to roam free with other huge piggies. ):

  • I’d be excited if I shot something 10 times my size..

    But personally, I’d be way to afraid. xD That thing is HUGE.

  • I wish more people would read the links you put up.

    To answer the question, No.
    Now if you were to take it out of the hunting sport context, I’d have to say yes. But… we’re not taking it out of the hunting sport context, now are we?

  • I would have killed that pig in a heart beat and I would have been really excited about it as well. Wild hogs cause a large amount of damage to private property and farms I don’t even think there is a season for hunting them, it is pretty much all year long. I am sorry that the pig had to die in such a long and painful way, but I am sure that happens alot when you are hunting.

    SuperEvilPoptart64 - Do you honestly think he shot it and then by choice allowed it to run around for 3 hrs before killing it? The thing wasn’t in a freaking cage, he didn’t have much of a choice if the thing just took off into the woods did he.

  • I think he was more excited about the 20 pounds of sausage he’s going to be eating every day for a few months.

  • 11 year old boys are violent. they like to kill things. it’s normal. maybe he’ll grow up and live on a farm.

  • besides. if he hadnt killed it, no one would ever believe him that it was that big.

  • Its a cultural thing. A lot of people in the south hunt. Its considered a sport, and a young man would naturally be very excited to kill such a big boar because its like winning. I remember when my brother shot his first deer, he was extremely excited and proud. He is also a sweet person who loves animals and the outdoors. Its kind of hard to explain, but just because he liked to shoot the occaisional deer, which we would process and eat doesn’t mean he is a sick person who loves indiscriminant killing. He just likes to hunt.

  • I think the real crime here is that adults thought it would be appropiate to insult this child. Honestly.

  • way to go kid.
    i do think it’s sad that they’re having the entire thing made into sausage.  no pork chops?  no bacon?  no ham steaks??  that shows a real lack of creativity.  only sickness he’s going to have is from eating too much sausage.

  • men all over get excited about the thrill of hunt and victory over the wild: hunters. Nothing wrong with having a hobby, as long as he was doing it legally. *shrug*

  • Eww, that’s one gross looking animal.  I think it’s sick that people are being negative to this kid.  He’s 11!  How is this different from hunting a deer?  My question is what do they do with it now?  Sell it?  Stuff it?  Just wondering…

  • Not at all. To shoot at something that big…wow. Takes guts.

  • Only if that kid took the pig down to his dungeon and tortured it.

  • I was a very sick 11 year old too, but skinny because I never had a video game.

  • RYC:  I agree with aristotlefordummies, as well.

  • I would call that normal behavior for an 11 year old boy. C’mon, now! People must not know many males in that age bracket. It’s almost a rite of passage.

    As for three hours bleeding… sometimes, that can be the norm for deer or bear hunting. I have a friend who bowhunts bear. Do I think it is right? Perhaps not. It is a cruel way to do. But for people to get incensed over one animal dying this way is ridiculous when thousands do so every season.

    It is a pity, however, that such a fine animal is dead (although I’d never want to come up against it- I had my share of boar experiences for one lifetime when I lived in South America).

  • stop being so concerned.

    he’s fine.

    i thought it was pretty cool…even though i don’t hunt!

  • Hunting is both a neccesity and a sport. It’s a normal human activity that boys have been learning how to do it since the dawn of man kind. He did nothing wrong. Anyone would be excited if they took down something that big. And its not like he killed a puppy. Wild hogs that size are dangerous, he could’ve easily been killed himself, if it had turned on him.

    I remember when I was 11 I begged my mother to let my step brother teach me how to use a bow and quiver during dear season. But my mom is old fashioned and girls aren’t supposed to go hunting. grrr.

  • I’m not a hunter, but I’d be pretty stinkin’ excited to kill that monster too!  Wow!

  • hahahahaha no, so what, the kid hunts?

  • It’s not violence towards animals.  The boy was raised in a family structure that encouraged hunting, so of course he’s going to be excited when he shoots down the biggest game he’s probably ever seen especially since he’s being praised for it.  Besides, aren’t they going to eat it?  It’s not simply going to go to waste.

  • I think it’s more instinct to be excited to accomplish a kill. People seem to forget that as advanced as humans are, we still have primative animal instincts, and just because an instinct doesn’t reflect society’s politically ideal standards.

    That being said, I am a member of the Animal Rescue and Relief Foundation (ARRF) and do think there is no need to kill an animal for anything other than food or self defense, I also understand that not everyone has the same views as me and I respect that.

  • I mean some animals are made to be hunted, but why does such pleasure come from that?

    It’s his pleasure I guess…As long as the animal was used for good, like food or whatever. I hope the critter isn’t hanging on some hick’s wall.

  • I just think it is sad that he is getting publicity for it, a little too much.

  • People need to lighten up! He killed something 9 times bigger than him!

    People need to do something else besides leaving nasty comments to an 11 year old. People who do that are sick.

  • Yeah, pretty much. And they say violent video games are the problem.

  • I mean some animals are made to be hunted, but why does such pleasure come from that?

    It’s his pleasure I guess…As long as the animal was used for good, like food or whatever. I hope the critter isn’t hanging on some hick’s wall.

    It can still be displayed and be eaten… they take the meat and stuff out before stuffing it…
    I read some of those negative comments.  People are so ignorant.

  • Not all of the United States is a big sterile city. I could see why an 11 year old in a family that hunts would be very excited to have bagged this pig. I sure would have.

    The negative comments were mind boggling. Thats great, an animal rights activist wishing death, disease, pain and suffering on an 11 year old boy.

    They discredit themselves and show a very deep level of dissatisfaction with life and frustration level.

  • wow! that’s a big pig! i don’t think that’s sick at all! a lot animals were created to be eaten. and pigs are one of them. but that’s alot of ham for dinner! lol.

  • Does every hunter or fisherman have to hide their excitement at “bagging the big one” or reeling in a trophy prize?  He was excited.  Personally, I would be scared to death.  He also was probably on an adrenaline rush to beat all rushes!

  • psychologists thing it’s a sign of anti-social personality disorder when children enjoy killing and torturing animals…. they also say that most serial killers suffer from anti-social personality disorder.

  • No, it’s not a sickness. Anyone who hunts or whatever is excited when they actually shoot something. Most don’t shoot things anywhere near as big as that thing and for him to be 9 and do it… you can bet he was excited!

  • humans are the only “animals” that hunt for pleasure.

    i think it’s stupid to hunt. the only reason i would ever see fit to kill an animal is for food and protection. when we kill an animal for fun, it makes humans look like the animals we really are.

  • Not if it’s for sport or hunting.

    If he enjoyed torturing animals, or found joy at killing kittens, then yes.

  • That boy was brought up in a family that hunts, so for him, wanting to hunt an animal is not strange or psychotic, but the sport of hunting for wild game.  If you haven’t grown up around hunting, it’s probably hard to wrap your mind around.

  • I’d be proud, too.

  • i find it ironic that the same people who condemn killing animals are the same people who believe in darwinian evolution and survival of the fittest… nuf said…

  • He’s a male. Instinct says “hunt, kill animals.”

  • I don’t know, most boys take pride in doing things like that.

    I don’t know how the 11-year old got ahold of a gun strong enough to kill the thing, though. That’s what would strike me as weird, not the fact that he killed something.

  • “humans are the only “animals” that hunt for pleasure.”

    See some people are so detached from the real world that they have never even seen a house cat hunt. Almost all predators, at lest the mammals, hunt for pleasure, as well as food. One needs only see them play with their kill. And they all do.

    Man tends to be the most merciful, as we are weak and our prey can kill us, if we are not very careful.

  • omggggg, its a freakin wild animal!!!! People need to learn that everything has a purpose in this freakin world. We EAT ANIMALS DANGIT!!!!!! And for him to kill it as a hobby, work, and/or food is NATURAL. He didnt invent it. It was invented long ago.

    Indians killed wild game….and they even killed with their bare knuckles. Are they psycho or are they Just Surviving?! Thinka bout it.
    Soldiers are hyped up before combat…warriors were given words of encouragement to attack and conquer….hell, our young men from back in the day who served in WWI and WWII…..were even younger than 18….they were trained the same way.. are they KILLERS????? Are they sick?

    Geeeez, some people Just Need to find something/someone to demean huh? They need to get a life!

  • That is an effing huge pig.

  • WTF? That’s REAL?! My mom showed that to me yesterday and I was like “…That’s not real.” Holy shamoli.

  • Of course he should be excited, that’s quite an accomplishment!  The negative comments he has received only reflect the hypocrisy of our culture of tolerence.  It’s funny how people say they are tolerant until you do something that they happen to disagree with.  People have been hunting for thousands of years.  Whether you agree with it our not it is a normal human behavior and cannot be construed as illness.  People with ideological differences have a right to speak up, but for crying out loud quit picking on a kid!

  • No. What a bunch of jerks.

  • Maybe not a wild animal because if that were the case…there would be a lot of other sickos in this world.  However, a domestic animal…yea, you have problems…

  • It would be cause for concern if an eleven year old boy DIDN’T get excited about killing animals.

  • Yes, yes, and YES!!!

    It makes me sick that hes getting so much attention for mercilessly shooting an animal and then after that, not even putting it out of its misery. All for what? Sport? Publicity?

    And who ever called him “fat” should be given an award. I mean its only true, and what I have to say to him is that maybe he should run around for three hours straight in pain and he’ll know the pain he installed upon that poor creature and he might even drop a few pounds.

    Pig; And no, I’m not talking about the hog.

  • The kid was hunting…

  • I dunno about anyone here, but if all I had in my hand was a pistol and there was a gynormous pig running through the woods even close to me i’d wanna get it as far away from me as possible.  That kid’s awesome for not running away from the thing, and heck, for following it for THREE HOURS!!!  I’ve never hunted, but it’s not like the nice little hamburgers in the food store butcher and wrap themselves you know..

  • it looks like those giant boars from princess Mononoke…those things were huge, and nastay!

  • This kid should get a medal from PETA.  By killing this single half-ton pig, for the next few months his family won’t have to kill other animals, and neither will they have to buy processed meat from their local grocery store.

    He saved so many more animal lives.

  • That pig is scary huge.

    And my word, can we feminize boys anymore? What boy wouldn’t be excited about that? Sheesh.

  • Nastyyy.

    I don’t see why you would be EXCITED, per se, about killing it. I would NOT have killed that thing.
    I mean, I wouldn’t kill anything ever, but that’s one big discovery. It’s kind of odd that the first thing you want to do is shoot it.

  • nope, that’s pretty awesome!!

  • OMG!!! that is a huge ass wild boar….i would be excited i killed it too…i would be excited that it didnt eat me!

  • Some people need to stop playing the ” he went after it to finish it off” card as if it means that the kid wanted to make sure his death was as swift and clean as possible. The kid OBVIOUSLY went after it because he wanted to indeed finish it off, and claim his victory. Most 11 year old boys don’t have much compassion, let alone those raised in huntin’ packs. Fact.

  • “It is terribly sick, however, that many of the people who are against killing animals are pro-abortion. It is a horrible contridiction to condemn the killing of animals, but support the killing of human beings.

    amanda”

    Amanda- what about those who are extremely anti-abortion, yet very much for killing animals and support the death penalty? That seems like a contradiction to me.

  • no its not a sickness. i think its awesome that a young boy could shoot a record like that. and of course its not gonna die with one shot the thing is over 1000 pounds he cant help that hes not fast enough to catch it for a while.

  • I’d love to hunt something that big…  Good job kid!

  • No.  If he were going around tortuing animals for fun (and I don’t mean being a lousy shot), perhaps we should worry.

  • for justice, the boy should be shot by a pig. perhaps by one of or multiple children of the pig he shot.

  • He should be proud, it’s a once in a lifetime kill. He’s going to get some prime pork out of it.

  • “hell no…. how did people eat back in the day before processed food?…. they killed animals… ”

    Not with a pistol they didn’t.

    My boyfriend has this idea that if people are going to hunt, they should at least do it with their own hands, or something. With guns, we have an unfair advantage.

    I personally don’t like hunting in any way. But that’s just me.

  • In modern terms yeah I guess.

    In regularity though…I think it’s normal to be excited that you got something, especially that big.

    Poor hog, though.

    P.S.
    Hogzilla sounds like a moronic movie.

  • There’s nothing wrong with hunting, as long as you use all or what you can of what you kill.  I don’t support hunting for sport.  That’s how things become extinct…killing for fun…it’s idiotic.

    I am concerned, however, that the poor thing *the hog* was running for three hours.  I wouldn’t want to kill something like that, just because I think it’s awesome that a hog that large actually existed.  I’d want it to live so that maybe someone else could see it in it’s wild state…not dead.

    Sad.

  • Nope… in the deep south that kid is a natural born hunter… he gets major points, in fact maybe he should pray for the lost girl.

    Okay, that was tacky…

    Hugs, Tricia

  • what disturbs me most is if the boy tried to hunt down the pig for 3 whole hours…….i do think that’s quite sick.

  • um it was done in a hunting context so no.  its whens its random violence to animals and the act is hidden that psych usually sees it as a sign of a problem.

    ugh get over it!  thats where many people still get their meat!

  • I’m no hunting advocate, but that’s definitely extreme to say he’s “sick”. Way extreme. I think it’s right for him to be excited that he didn’t flip a shit, but instead shot a record-size pig. Pretty impressive.

  • Let’s put it this way, the Hogzilla would have definitely chased the boy all over and killed him/the boy too! I would prefer the boy to be alive.

    It was definitely normal for the boy to have killed the enourmous wild hog!

  • People need to realize that meat isn’t “replicated” like on Startrek. Nor are veggies magically transported into the markets in little plastic bags.
    *rolls eyes* The child is a hunter and enjoyed the hunt in the finest tradition of all hunters. The people that are attacking the boy are the sick ones. They don’t have to agree with it, but attacking the child is immature and juvenile and accomplishes nothing.

  • I think why shoot it dead when u can captured it a life. Of course capturing the pig maybe more dangerous… but trap can be set isn’t it?

  • Hey that is a game boar if I ever saw one! I’d be excited too!!! Who wouldn’t! His family will eat for months off that kill…..I smell bacon!

  • Oh, its a sickness alright.

    A sickness of our society.

    We shouldn’t kill animals that we don’t need killed. Killing for game is senseless, wasteful, and depressing. It only leads to extinction.

  • Hunting is not my thing but I’ve lived in areas where it was a part of the life and culture.  I don’t get it but those people didn’t understand why I didn’t like hunting.  It’s just a matter of taste (no pun intented).

  • i’d say dont look for the sickness in the boy but in the parents… after all children are products of their upbringing

  • Anybody who enjoys killing anything is sick

  • no; though there is a limit, i think men are built that way to equip them for war and the ablity to defend their family.
    and he would especially show these excitements if the way he was brought up included an encouragement of that excitement.

  • there is a HUGE difference between hunting and murder! Geez im pretty sure the monster hog had a nice LONGGGGG and very full (judgin by the size of it) life…

    Now if his next target were a neighbor i would be worried…

    i can’t think of any 11 yr old boy that would not think getting his game when hunting cool!

  • Whoaaa dat hog is MASSIVE!!! lol

  • i’ve got no problem with the kid. and anyway, would you want that thing wandering around in your neighborhood? I think not!

    and did you people read the negative comments? The reall evil lies in those people. I don’t care what kind of animal that kid killed, you do not, I repeat, NOT, wish death or terrible pain on an 11 year old. It’s preposterous! And you can tell the intelligence level of those people by noticing their lack of gramar and spelling. Last time i checked, magic marker was spelled with a G not a J. Who’s the dumb asses now?

    An when did it become acceptable to call an 11 year old a fatass, a bitch, and the spawn of satan? I really don’t want to see the plans these people have for the world.

    And I also wouldn’t call a kid fat when he ran for three hours CHASING the pig. You guys all act like he just floated after the beast. Or did he just teleport? Really guys, a sense of reality!

  • What does it matter that the Hog took 3 hours to die? If it had been injured by some other animal (snake etc, I can’t imagine many natural predators for a hog that big) It could have taken MUCH longer. Feral Hogs are not indigenous to North America and they are disruptive to the ecosystem. One would think that Animal lovers and their ilk would be pleased that such a pest is being eliminated.
    Animals < Humans. Very simple. People get all up in a huff because parts of society are insulated from the need to kill their own dinner. Things must die (be they plants or animals) so that we might live.~Nathan

  • The news now says that this incident is being investigated.  The kid isn’t in any trouble but the state is questioning how such a large pig wound up in a hunting preserve.  They think it may have been put there on purpose without a chance of escape.  Apparantly both are illegal.  Of course, nothing has been proven and this all may just be a result of the great size of the animal.

  • To say that killing something so that you can eat it is wrong makes you a hypocrite. Even vegetarians kill plants for their food. And who’s to say plants can’t feel pain? (Mythbusters It seems that there is no way to not kill something in order to live yourself. Should humanity die in order to save the lives of plants and animals? I think this insanity should stop there.

  • no way, about 100 years ago the community would be proud of him. No grocery stores back then people had to catch there own food

  • That apple obviously didn’t fall far from the tree.

  • being excited about hunting isn’t a sign of mental illness or being a sick freak.

    the kid’s a hunter… heck! I’d love to have him up here in the U.P. of Michigan so he could kill off some of these darn deer… (I love deer, but not when I see 100 of them when driving at night…)

  • going hunting and killing an animal with their father for an 11 year old is pretty exciting! i know several boys who go hunting. that isn’t the problem. it’s the fact that they chased the animal around for three hours while shooting it. that goes too far. if you shoot an animal, and it does right then and there, then that’s fine, but not three hours! i’m not sure what the deal was there but that’s just wrong. i’m sure his father was egging him on since he knew they would make the news too…

  • Not if it’s an edible animal, no.  If he wanted to hunt people, I would be worried.

    “If you look at a kid like that who was able to take down something 9 times his size, you should be proud of the boy.
    He didn’t crap himself or anything.

    Also a good point.

  • not sick at all… you get your hunting license in the U.S. at the age of 12… so you know how many little boys and girls there are out there that get excited on their first kill.. my first dead deer was a very estatic and memorable time for me!

  • No way! I’ve killed dozens of ants in the last few days, (and some by means of running the dishwasher, which I’m sure is a terrible way for an ant to die) does that make me an evil, violent psycho?

  • I bet that could feed a lot of people in Africa… yummm

  • No, it’s normal. People, especially 11-year-olds, have a destructive nature and like to kill things.

    However, I think the fact that the pig was so huge was a pity to kill it in the first place. Why are people making more big of a deal about the boy’s bloody nature and “accomplishment” than the pig’s size?

  • ok, I wasn’t being serious there.

  • There’s nothing wrong with people liking to hunt.  If you’d been out hunting and shot something the size of a horse, you’d be excited too.

    TRANSLATION MISCOMMUNICATION!!

    One of the ten commandments (I can’t remember which one exactly) states that “Thou shalt not kill”, right?  Nope. The original Bible was written in Hebrew, ergo, the translated English versions won’t get the same point across.  If it were to be retranslated (and in some versions of the Bible it is) by a Hebrew speaker, it would not say ‘kill’, but instead, ‘murder’.  Unless you speak fluent Hebrew and have read an ancient copy of the Bible, then don’t argue with me.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Another reason you’re all so shocked and horrified is that the animal ran for three hours until it died.  Look at what the kids using! A freakin’ Revolver, albeit a .50 caliber.  It’s like trying to take down a deer with a slingshot.  The kid shot it 8 frickin’ times! That would’ve felled most animals, aside from rhinos, hippopotomi, and elephants.  The kid isn’t a lousy shot.  He would’ve only had nine shots, and hit with 8 out of 9.  Do the math.
  • What I meant to add was that it appears to be a nine shot revolver.  He wouldn’t have had time to reload on the run.
  • It’s tacky… but sick? naw.
  • What a champ, nice shooting kid!
    To be human is to survive by preying on other living creatures; it’s a simple fact of nature.
    Hunting is a ritualized celebration of our natural heritage. His act was virtuous and he has a right to be proud.
    From another perspective, should I feel ashamed to have been excited about eating prime rib for Christmas dinner last year even though I know deep down inside that it came from some pathetic cow who was tormented and butchered in a factory process?
  • did he have excitement comparable to jack in lord of the flies?
    if not then it cant be that bad
  • In response to an earlier comment, psychosis is not “an early sign of psychosis” (don’t know where you got that from). Torturing small creatures for pleasure may point to a future personality disorder, but not trying to kill a wild pig.
    And I doubt he shot it once and let it wander around in pain. He wanted that thing dead, and for it to stop moving. He probably shot it until he ran out of bullets, and was left with no choice but to watch it run until it died.
    There is nothing wrong with this kid based off of the given information.
  • Every single person who left negative comments on that site has presented him or herself to be nothing more that moronic extreme leftist jackasses. And to spew such vile hatred at an 11 year old child?
    Come, let’s look at the facts here:
    The animal in question IS NOT an indeginous species and as such does wreak havok on the ecosystem.
    The hunter was in fact an 11 year old child – and as such is likely not experienced enough to be able to kill an animal that size cleanly. In fact there probably aren’t too many adult hunter who are that experienced.
    The animal was used as food and was not killed solely for sport. I’m sure there was the intent to kill for sport and for food – the two are not mutually exclusive.
    The sickness is not the child’s or even with the hunters – the sickness is in those who would consider the life of an animal to be of more worth than a human life.
  • no. i’d be freaking excited too. that’s a freaken big pig!
